The WESTINGHOUSE WHI955BD cooktop consists of the following components:

1. & 2. Induction cooking zone 2300 W, with Power function 3200 W (minimum cookware diameter =125 mm). Generator 1(LF zone): 3200W, Generator 2(LR zone): 3200W.

3. Induction cooking zone 1800/3500 W, with Power function 2800/5200 W (minimum cookware diameter =245 mm). Generator 3/3+4(Middle zone): 2800W/5200w.

5. Induction cooking zone 2300 W, with Power function 3200 W (minimum cookware diameter =125 mm). Generator 5(RR zone): 3200W.

6. Induction cooking zone 2300 W, with Power function 3200 W (minimum cookware diameter =125 mm). Generator 6(RF zone): 3200W.

7. Control panel.

OptiHeat Control shows the level of the residual heat. The induction cooking zones make the heat necessary for cooking directly in the bottom of the cookware. The glass ceramic is hot from the heat of the cookware. Be aware of the risk of burns from residual heat.

Touch the ON/OFF sensor field for 1 second to activate or deactivate the appliance.

The Automatic Switch Off function deactivates the appliance automatically if:

• All cooking zones are deactivated.

• You do not set the heat setting after you activate the appliance.

• You spill something or put something on the control panel for more than 10 seconds (a pan, a cloth, etc). An audible sound will operate for some time, and the appliance will deactivate. Remove the object or clean the control panel.

• The appliance becomes too hot (e.g., when a saucepan boils dry). Before using the appliance again, the cooking zone must be cool.

• You use incorrect cookware. The symbol ‘F’ will appear, and the cooking zone will deactivate automatically after 2 minutes.

• You do not deactivate a cooking zone or change the heat setting. After some time, a symbol comes on, and the appliance deactivates. The deactivation times are as follows:

Touch the control bar at the desired heat setting. You can change it by sliding your finger to the left or right if necessary. Do not release your finger until you have selected the correct heat setting. The display will show the selected heat setting.

The Power function provides more power to the induction cooking zones. It is activated for a maximum of 10 minutes, after which the cooking zone automatically reverts to the highest heat setting.

To activate, touch ‘P’. The symbol ‘P’ will appear on the display.

To deactivate, touch ‘P’ again.

The Power management function activates when the total electricity load of the cooking zones exceeds the maximum available for the phase. This function divides the power between the cooking zones, decreasing the power of some zones to stay within the limit. The heat setting display of the reduced zones will alternate between the chosen heat setting and the reduced heat setting. After some time, the display will permanently show the reduced heat setting.

For the WESTINGHOUSE WHI955BD, touch the timer for the selected cooking zone to activate, deactivate, or change the time.

The Pause function sets all operating cooking zones to level 1 (keep warm).

• To activate this function, touch the PAUSE sensor. The heat setting will change to level 1.

• To deactivate this function, touch the PAUSE sensor again. The heat setting that you previously set will be restored.

When the Pause function is active, you cannot change the heat setting, and it does not stop the timer function.

The Bridge function connects the two left-hand cooking zones, so they operate as one, which is ideal for a griddle plate accessory (sold separately).

1. First, set the heat setting for one of the left-hand cooking zones.

2. To start the Bridge function, touch the Bridge sensor.

3. To set or change the heat setting, touch one of the left-hand controls.

4. To stop the Bridge function, touch the Bridge sensor again. The cooking zones will then operate independently.

You can lock the control panel while the cooking zones are in operation to prevent an accidental change of the heat setting. The ON/OFF sensor cannot be locked.

1. First, set the heat setting.

2. To start this function, touch the LOCK sensor. The timer stays on.

3. To stop this function, touch the LOCK sensor again. The heat setting you set before will come on.

When you turn off the appliance, you also stop this function.

This function prevents accidental operation of the appliance.

To activate the child safety device:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF. Do not set the heat settings.

2. Touch the LOCK button for 4 seconds.

3. Deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF.

To deactivate the child safety device:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF. Do not set the heat settings.

2. Touch the LOCK button for 4 seconds.

3. Deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF.

To override the child safety device for only one cooking time:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF.

2. Touch the LOCK button for 4 seconds. Set the heat setting within 10 seconds. You can now operate the appliance.

3. When you deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF, the child safety device operates again.

The SenseBoil function automatically adjusts the temperature of water so that it does not boil over once it reaches the boiling point.

1. Touch ON/OFF to activate the hob.

2. Touch the Boil Protect sensor to activate the function. A blinking pot icon will appear for cooking zones on which you can presently use the function.

3. Touch the control bar of any available cooking zone for which you want to start the function (between heat settings 1-9). The function starts.

If there is any residual heat on the zones you want to use, a signal is emitted and the function does not start. Once the function detects the boiling point, the hob emits an acoustic signal and the heat level automatically changes to 5.

To deactivate the function, touch the Boil Protect sensor (the heat setting goes down to 0) or adjust the heat setting manually using the control bar.

• The function works best for boiling water and preparing potatoes.

• It does not work with cast iron and non-stick cookware (e.g., with a ceramic coating). Enamelled steel pots are recommended.

• Fill between half to three-quarters of the pot with cold tap water, leaving 4 cm from the rim empty. Use between 1 to 5 litres of water.

• To cook potatoes, ensure they are completely covered with water, but leave at least one-quarter of the pot empty.

• Cook only whole, unpeeled, medium-sized potatoes for best results.

• Avoid external vibrations (e.g., from a blender) when the function is running.

• Add salt after the water reaches the boiling point.

• The function may not work properly for water kettles and espresso pots.

For induction cooking zones, a strong electromagnetic field creates heat directly in the cookware very quickly.

Cookware material:

• Correct: cast iron, steel, enamelled steel, stainless steel, the bottom made of multi-layer (with a correct mark from the manufacturer).

• Not correct: aluminium, copper, brass, glass, ceramic, or porcelain.

Finding the right cookware:

Only magnetic pots and pans work with induction. To check if your cookware is compatible, place a magnet on the bottom of the pot or pan. If it clings firmly, the cookware will work with your cooktop.

Cookware is correct for an induction hob if:

• Some water boils very quickly on a zone set to the highest heat setting.

• A magnet pulls onto the bottom of the cookware.

The bottom of the cookware must be as thick and flat as possible. The induction cooking zones adapt to the dimension of the bottom of the cookware automatically to some limit.

The following noises are normal and do not indicate an appliance malfunction:

• crack noise: cookware is made of different materials (sandwich construction).

• whistle sound: you use one or more cooking zones with high power levels, and the cookware is made of different materials (sandwich construction).

• humming: you use high power levels.

• clicking: electric switching occurs.

• hissing, buzzing: the fan operates.

The Power function is best to heat up large quantities of water.

Clean the appliance after each use. Always use cookware with a clean bottom. Scratches or dark stains on the glass ceramic do not affect how the appliance operates.

To remove the dirt:

1. Remove immediately: melted plastic, plastic foil, and food with sugar. If not, the dirt can cause damage. Use a special scraper for the glass. Put the scraper on the glass surface at an acute angle and move the blade on the surface.

Remove after the appliance is sufficiently cool: limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, shiny metallic discolourations. Use a special cleaning agent for glass ceramic or stainless steel.

2. Clean the appliance with a moist cloth and some detergent.

3. At the end, rub the appliance dry with a clean cloth.

If the deposit does not clean off easily, use a non-abrasive scratch pad and a specially adapted glass-ceramic cleaning product.

If the deposit is more important, clean it off with a moist, soapy sponge and rinse off.

After cleaning, apply a glass ceramic cooktop conditioner to protect the surface against future stains, using a dry cloth or equivalent.
