OptiHeat Control shows the level of the residual heat. The induction cooking zones generate heat directly in the bottom of the cookware, making the glass ceramic hot from the cookware’s heat.

To activate or deactivate your WESTINGHOUSE WHI643BD cooktop, touch the ON/OFF sensor field for 1 second.

The Automatic Switch Off function deactivates the WESTINGHOUSE WHI643BD cooktop automatically if:

• All cooking zones are deactivated (a ‘0’ is shown).

• You do not set a heat setting after you activate the appliance.

• You spill something or place an object (like a pan or cloth) on the control panel for more than 10 seconds. An audible sound will operate and the appliance will deactivate.

• The appliance becomes too hot, for example, when a saucepan boils dry.

• You use incorrect cookware. The symbol ‘F’ will appear, and the cooking zone will deactivate after 2 minutes.

• You do not deactivate a cooking zone or change the heat setting for an extended period. A symbol will appear, and then the appliance deactivates. The time depends on the heat setting:

To set the heat for a cooking zone on your WESTINGHOUSE WHI643BD cooktop, touch the control bar at the desired heat setting (from 1 to 9). You can slide your finger to the left or right to adjust it if necessary. Do not release your finger until you have selected the correct heat setting. The display will show the selected setting.

The Automatic Heat Up function allows you to reach a desired heat setting faster by first operating at the highest heat setting for a period and then automatically reducing it to your selected level.

To start the Automatic Heat Up function for a cooking zone:

1. Touch the pause symbol. ‘P’ will appear in the display.

2. Immediately touch the ‘+’ adjacent to the element you want to control. The symbol ‘A’ will appear in the display.

3. Immediately touch the ‘-‘ adjacent to the element repeatedly until the desired heat setting is shown. After 3 seconds, ‘A’ will appear in the display, indicating the function is active.

4. To stop the function, touch the ‘+’ adjacent to the element you are controlling.

The Power function provides additional power to an induction cooking zone for a maximum of 10 minutes, after which it automatically reverts to the highest standard heat setting.

• To activate: Touch the ‘P’ sensor field adjacent to the element you want to control. ‘P’ will appear on the display.

• To deactivate: Touch the ‘P’ sensor field again.

The Power Management function on your WESTINGHOUSE WHI643BD cooktop automatically divides the available power between cooking zones connected to the same phase. This happens when the total electricity demand of the active cooking zones exceeds the maximum load of a single phase.

When this function is active, it reduces the power of other cooking zones. The heat setting display of the affected zones will alternate between the chosen setting and the reduced setting. After some time, the display will permanently show the reduced heat setting.

The Count Down Timer can be used to operate a cooking zone for a specific duration (00-99 minutes).

• To set the timer for a cooking zone: First, select the cooking zone. Touch the TIMER sensor field repeatedly until the indicator for the desired cooking zone appears.

• To start the timer: Touch the + or – of the timer to set the duration. When the indicator of the cooking zone flashes slowly, the timer is counting down.

• To check the remaining time: Select the cooking zone with the TIMER sensor field. The indicator will flash faster, and the display will show the remaining time.

• To change the time: Select the cooking zone with the TIMER sensor field, then touch + or –.

• To stop the timer: Select the cooking zone with the TIMER sensor field, then touch the – until the time shows ’00’.

When the time elapses, a sound will operate, ’00’ will flash, and the cooking zone will switch off. Touch the TIMER sensor field to stop the sound.

You can use the timer as a Minute Minder when the cooking zones are not in operation. Touch the TIMER sensor field. Then touch the + or – of the timer to select the desired time. When the time elapses, a sound will operate and ’00’ will flash on the display. Touch the TIMER sensor field to stop the sound.

The PAUSE function sets all active cooking zones to the lowest heat setting (keep warm). When the Pause function is active, you cannot change the heat setting. This function does not stop the timer.

• To activate: Touch the PAUSE sensor field. The symbol for keep warm will appear.

• To deactivate: Touch the PAUSE sensor field again. The heat setting you previously set will be restored.

The Child Safety Device prevents accidental operation of the appliance.

To activate the device:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF. Do not set any heat settings.

2. Touch the PAUSE/LOCK sensor field for 4 seconds. The symbol ‘L’ will appear.

3. Deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF.

To deactivate the device:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF. Do not set any heat settings. The symbol ‘L’ will appear.

2. Touch the PAUSE/LOCK sensor field for 4 seconds.

To use the cooktop for one cooking time while the Child Safety Device is active:

When you deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF, the Child Safety Device will operate again.

The SenseBoil® function automatically adjusts the temperature of water to prevent it from boiling over once it reaches the boiling point.

Important: If there is any residual heat on the cooking zones you want to use, a signal will sound, and the function will not start.

To use the SenseBoil® function:

1. Touch ON/OFF to activate the hob.

2. Touch the Boil Protect sensor field to activate the function. A blinking indicator will appear for the cooking zones on which you can currently use the function.

3. Touch the control bar of an available cooking zone (between heat setting 1-9) for which you want to start the function.

Once started, the indicators above the Boil Protect symbol will light up one after another as the water heats up. When the function detects the boiling point, the hob will emit an acoustic signal, and the heat level will automatically change to level 5.

To deactivate the function, touch the Boil Protect sensor field (the heat setting will go to 0) or manually adjust the heat setting using the control bar.

For the best results with the SenseBoil® function on your WESTINGHOUSE WHI643BD cooktop, follow these tips:

• The function works best for boiling water and preparing potatoes.

• It is not recommended for cast iron or non-stick cookware. Enamelled steel pots are recommended.

• Fill the pot with half to three-quarters of cold tap water, leaving at least 4 cm from the rim empty. Use between 1 and 5 litres of water. The total weight of water (or water and potatoes) should be between 1-5 kg.

• If cooking potatoes, ensure they are whole, unpeeled, medium-sized, and completely covered with water, leaving at least one-quarter of the pot empty.

Operating the function automatically:

Operating the fan speed manually:

You can also control the rangehood fan speed manually from the cooktop. Touch the Auto sensor while the hob is active. This deactivates the automatic operation. Pressing Auto again will raise the fan speed by one level. After reaching the intensive level, pressing it again will set the fan speed to 0 (off). To restart the fan at speed 1, press Auto again.

For induction cooking, a strong electromagnetic field creates heat directly in the cookware. Therefore, the cookware material is very important.

• Correct Cookware: Cast iron, steel, enamelled steel, stainless steel, and multi-layer bottoms (with a correct mark from the manufacturer) are suitable.

• Incorrect Cookware: Aluminium, copper, brass, glass, ceramic, or porcelain will not work on an induction cooktop.

The bottom of the cookware must be as thick and flat as possible. Induction cooking zones adapt to the dimension of the cookware bottom to some extent.

You can perform two simple tests to check if your cookware is suitable for your WESTINGHOUSE WHI643BD cooktop:

1. The Magnet Test: Place a magnet on the bottom of the pot or pan. If the magnet sticks firmly, the cookware is suitable for induction cooking.

• Highest Heat Setting: The function will not activate if the highest heat setting (9) is already selected, as it has the same power as the function.

If the heat setting display is changing between two levels, it means the Power Management function is operating. This is a normal function that distributes power between cooking zones to prevent overloading the electrical circuit. Refer to the “Power Management” section in your user manual for more details.

The sensor fields on the control panel can become hot if the cookware is too large or if you have placed it too close to the controls. If possible, use large cookware on the rear cooking zones.

The ‘L’ symbol indicates that the Child Safety Device or Lock function is activated. This prevents accidental changes to the settings. To deactivate it, refer to the instructions for the Child Safety Device in your user manual.

The symbol ‘F’ appearing on the display indicates an issue with the cookware on the zone. This could mean:

• There is no cookware on the zone.

• The cookware is unsuitable for induction (e.g., not magnetic).

• The diameter of the cookware’s base is too small for the cooking zone.

• The zone’s power is too low, which can be due to unsuitable cookware or an empty pot.

Please ensure you are using suitable cookware of the correct size and placed correctly on the zone. Do not activate a zone with an empty pot on it.

The display of an ‘E’ followed by a number indicates an error in the hob. To resolve this:

1. Deactivate the hob and then activate it again after 30 seconds.

2. If the error code appears again, disconnect the hob from the electrical supply for 30 seconds.

3. After 30 seconds, reconnect the hob.

If the problem continues, please contact an Authorised Service Centre.

If you hear a beep sound, the indicators above the Boil Protect symbol blink, and the SenseBoil® function does not start, it means that none of the cooking zones are ready to be used with this function. This is typically because there is some residual heat on the cooking zones you want to use, or they are still in use. Finish your previous cooking activities and choose a free cooking zone that has no residual heat.
