The WESTINGHOUSE WHI635BD appliance is intended to be used in household and similar applications such as:

To ensure your safety when using the WESTINGHOUSE WHI635BD, please follow these instructions:

Risk of suffocation, injury or permanent disability:

• Do not let persons, including children, with reduced physical sensory, mental functions, or lack of experience and knowledge use the appliance without supervision.

• Do not let children play with the appliance.

• Keep all packaging away from children.

• Keep children and pets away from the appliance when it operates or when it cools down. Accessible parts are hot.

General Use:

• Use this appliance in a household environment.

• Do not change the specification of this appliance.

• Do not let the appliance stay unattended during operation.

• Do not operate the appliance with wet hands or when it has contact with water.

• Do not put cutlery or saucepan lids on the cooking zones as they can become hot.

• Set the cooking zone to “off” after each use. Do not rely on the pan detector.

• Do not use the appliance as a work surface or as a storage surface.

• If there is a crack on the surface, disconnect power supply to prevent electrical shock.

• Users with a pacemaker must keep a distance of minimum 30 cm from the induction cooking zones when the appliance is in operation.

Risk of fire or explosion:

• Fats and oil when heated can release flammable vapours. Keep flames or heated objects away from fats and oils when you cook with them.

• Vapours that very hot oil releases can cause spontaneous combustion.

• Do not put flammable products or items that are wet with flammable products in, near, or on the appliance.

• Do not try to extinguish a fire with water. Disconnect the appliance and cover the flame with a lid or a fire blanket.

Risk of damage to the appliance:

• Do not keep hot cookware on the control panel.

• Do not let cookware boil dry.

• Be careful not to drop utensils or cookware on the glass; the glass surface can be damaged.

• Do not activate the cooking zones with empty cookware or without cookware.

• Do not put aluminium foil on the appliance.

• Cookware made of cast iron, aluminium, or with a damaged bottom can cause scratches on the glass ceramic. Always lift these objects up when you have to move them on the cooking surface.

The WESTINGHOUSE WHI635BD cooktop features the following zones:

1. Induction cooking zone: 2300 W, with Power function 3200 W (minimum cookware diameter =125 mm). Generator 1(LF zone): 3200W

2. Induction cooking zone: 2300 W, with Power function 3200 W (minimum cookware diameter =125 mm). Generator 2(LR zone): 3200W

3. Induction cooking zone: 1800/2800 W, with Power function 3500/3700 W (minimum cookware diameter =245 mm). Generator 3/3+4(RF zone): 2800W/3700W

4. Control panel

OptiHeat Control (3 step residual heat indicator) shows the level of the residual heat. The glass ceramic is hot from the heat of the cookware. Be aware of the risk of burns from residual heat.

Touch ON/OFF for 1 second to activate or deactivate the appliance.

The Automatic Switch Off function deactivates the appliance automatically if:

• All cooking zones are deactivated (showing 0).

• You do not set the heat setting after you activate the appliance.

• You spill something or put something on the control panel for more than 10 seconds (e.g., a pan, a cloth). A sound will operate, and the appliance will deactivate. Remove the object or clean the control panel.

• The appliance becomes too hot (e.g., when a saucepan boils dry).

• You use incorrect cookware. The symbol ‘F’ comes on, and the cooking zone deactivates automatically after 2 minutes.

• You do not deactivate a cooking zone or change the heat setting. After some time, a square symbol comes on, and the appliance deactivates.

The time until automatic switch-off depends on the heat setting:

The Automatic Heat Up function sets the highest heat setting for a period of time and then automatically decreases to the necessary heat setting you selected. This helps you reach a desired cooking temperature faster.

To start the Automatic Heat Up function:

1. Touch P (the letter P will appear on the display).

2. Immediately touch the necessary heat setting on the control bar. After 3 seconds, the symbol A will appear on the display.

To stop the function, simply change the heat setting.

The Power function provides more power to the induction cooking zones for a maximum of 10 minutes. After this period, the cooking zone will automatically revert to the highest heat setting.

• To activate: Touch the P symbol. The letter ‘P’ will appear on the display.

• To deactivate: Touch the P symbol adjacent to the element you want to control.

All cooking zones are connected to one phase. The Power Management function activates when the total electricity load of the cooking zones exceeds the maximum for the phase. It works by dividing the power between the cooking zones, which involves decreasing the power of other active cooking zones. When this happens, the heat setting display of the reduced zones will alternate between the chosen setting and the reduced setting. After a short time, the display will stay on the reduced heat setting.

You can use the Count Down Timer to set how long a cooking zone operates for a single session. You can set the timer before or after selecting the heat setting.

1. Select the cooking zone: Touch the TIMER symbol repeatedly until the indicator for the desired cooking zone appears.

2. Set the time: Touch + or – of the timer to set the time (00-99 minutes). When the indicator of the cooking zone flashes slowly, the time is counting down.

• To check the remaining time: Select the cooking zone with the TIMER symbol. The indicator will flash faster, and the display will show the remaining time.

• To change the time: Select the cooking zone with the TIMER symbol, then touch + or –.

• To stop the timer: Select the cooking zone with the TIMER symbol and touch –. The remaining time will count down to 00, and the zone indicator will go out. You can also touch + and – at the same time to switch it off.

When the time elapses, a sound will operate, 00 will flash, and the cooking zone will switch off. To stop the sound, touch the TIMER symbol.

The PAUSE function sets all active cooking zones to the lowest heat setting (keep warm). When Pause is active, you cannot change the heat setting. The timer function will continue to operate.

• To activate: Touch the PAUSE button. The keep warm symbol will appear for each active zone.

• To deactivate: Touch the PAUSE button again. The heat setting you previously set will be restored.

The Bridge function connects the two left-hand cooking zones, allowing them to operate as a single large zone, which is ideal for a griddle plate.

1. First, set the heat setting for one of the left-hand cooking zones.

2. To start the Bridge function, touch the Bridge symbol.

3. To set or change the heat setting for the bridged zone, touch one of the left-hand controls.

4. To stop the Bridge function, touch the Bridge symbol again. The cooking zones will then operate independently.

The Child Safety Device prevents accidental operation of the appliance.

To activate the Child Safety Device:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF. Do not set any heat settings.

2. Touch PAUSE for 4 seconds. The symbol L comes on.

3. Deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF.

To deactivate the Child Safety Device:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF. Do not set any heat settings.

2. Touch PAUSE for 4 seconds. The symbol L goes out.

3. Deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF.

To override the Child Safety Device for one cooking time:

1. Activate the appliance with ON/OFF. The symbol L comes on.

2. Touch PAUSE for 4 seconds. Set the heat setting within 10 seconds. You can now operate the appliance.

3. When you deactivate the appliance with ON/OFF, the Child Safety Device will be active again.

The SenseBoil® function automatically adjusts the temperature of water to prevent it from boiling over once it reaches the boiling point. The function works best for boiling water and preparing potatoes. It is not suitable for cast iron or non-stick cookware.

To use SenseBoil®:

1. Touch ON/OFF to activate the hob.

2. Touch the Boil Protect symbol to activate the function. A blinking pot icon appears for available cooking zones.

3. Touch the control bar of an available cooking zone (between heat setting 1-9) to start the function.

Once started, indicators above the Boil Protect symbol will light up one by one until the water boils. When the function detects the boiling point, the hob will emit a sound, and the heat level will automatically change to 5.

To deactivate the function, touch the Boil Protect symbol (heat setting goes to 0) or manually adjust the heat setting on the control bar.

Tips for SenseBoil®:

• Fill the pot with 1-5 litres of cold tap water, leaving at least 4 cm from the rim. The total weight of water (or water and potatoes) should be between 1-5 kg.

• If cooking potatoes, ensure they are whole, unpeeled, medium-sized, and completely covered with water.

• Avoid external vibrations (e.g., from a blender) near the appliance when the function is running.

• Add salt only after the water has reached the boiling point.

Hob2Hood is an automatic function that connects the hob to a compatible rangehood. The fan speed is adjusted automatically based on the mode setting and temperature of the hottest cookware on the hob.

Operating the function automatically:

The default mode is H5. When you activate the hob, the hood will adjust the fan speed automatically. The fan speed varies depending on the temperature of the cooking zones.

Operating the fan speed manually:

Touch the Auto symbol when the hob is active. This deactivates automatic operation. Pressing the symbol raises the fan speed by one level. When you reach the intensive level and press it again, the fan speed will be set to 0, deactivating the hood fan. To start the fan again with speed 1, touch the Auto symbol.

Hints and Tips for Hob2Hood:

• Protect the hood panel from direct sunlight.

• Do not spot halogen light on the hood panel.

• Do not cover the panel.

• Do not interrupt the signal between the hob and the hood (e.g., with a hand or cookware handle).

For induction cooking zones, a strong electromagnetic field creates heat directly in the cookware.

• Correct materials: cast iron, steel, enamelled steel, stainless steel, and multi-layer bottoms (with a correct mark from the manufacturer).

• Incorrect materials: aluminium, copper, brass, glass, ceramic, or porcelain.

How to check if cookware is correct for induction:

• Water should boil very quickly on a zone set to the highest heat setting.

• A magnet should stick firmly to the bottom of the cookware.

The bottom of the cookware must be as thick and flat as possible. The induction cooking zones will adapt to the dimension of the cookware bottom to some extent.

Certain sounds are normal during operation and do not indicate a malfunction:

• Crack noise: Occurs if cookware is made of different materials (sandwich construction).

• Whistle sound: Can occur if you use one or more cooking zones with high power levels and the cookware is made of different materials.

• Humming: Occurs when using high power levels.

• Clicking: This is the sound of electric switching.

• Hissing, buzzing: This is the sound of the fan operating.

The Power function (P) is best to heat up large quantities of water.

Clean the appliance after each use with cookware that has a clean bottom. Scratches or dark stains on the glass ceramic do not affect operation.

To remove the dirt:

1. Remove immediately: For melted plastic, plastic foil, and food with sugar, use a special glass scraper. Place the scraper on the glass surface at an acute angle and move the blade across the surface. Do this while the cooktop is still warm but not hot. If not removed immediately, the dirt can cause damage.

2. Remove when cool: For limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, and shiny metallic discolorations, wait until the appliance is sufficiently cool. Use a special cleaning agent for glass ceramic or stainless steel.

3. Clean the appliance with a moist cloth and some detergent.

4. At the end, rub the appliance dry with a clean cloth.

If a deposit does not clean off easily, use a non-abrasive scratch pad and a specially adapted glass-ceramic cleaning product. For stubborn residue, you can use a razor blade scraper designed for glass-ceramic cooktops.

After successful cleaning, apply a glass ceramic cooktop conditioner to protect the surface against future stains.

If you cannot activate or operate your cooktop, check the following:

• Connection: Check if the hob is correctly connected to the electrical supply. Refer to the connection diagram.

• Fuse: Make sure that the fuse is the cause of the malfunction. If the fuse is blown repeatedly, contact a qualified electrician.

• Heat Setting Timer: If you do not set a heat setting within 10 seconds of activating the hob, it may not operate. Activate the hob again and set the heat setting in less than 10 seconds.

• Multiple Sensors: You may have touched 2 or more sensor fields at the same time. Touch only one sensor field.

• Control Panel Stains: If there is water or fat stains on the control panel, clean the control panel.

This may happen if you have placed something on one or more sensor fields on the control panel. Remove the object from the sensor fields.

The zone may not be hot because it operated for only a short time, or the sensor may be damaged. If the zone was operated long enough to be hot and the indicator still doesn’t appear, speak to an Authorised Service Centre.

The symbol ‘F’ indicates an issue with the cookware.

• There is no cookware on the zone. Put cookware on the zone.

• The cookware is unsuitable for induction. Use suitable cookware.

• The diameter of the bottom of the cookware is too small for the zone. Use cookware with correct dimensions.

This indicates the power is too low due to unsuitable cookware or an empty pot. Use the appropriate type of cookware and do not activate a zone with an empty pot on it.

This could be due to several reasons:

• Incorrect Contents: The pot is empty or contains a liquid other than water, like oil. The function should only be used with water.

• Incorrect Quantity/Food: There is too much or too little water in the pot, or you have boiled food other than water and potatoes. Only boil water and potatoes with the SenseBoil® function.

• Residual Heat: None of the cooking zones are ready to be used. There may be some residual heat on the cooking zones you want to choose, or they are still in use. Finish your previous cooking activities and choose a free cooking zone without any residual heat.

This indicates an error in the hob. Deactivate the hob and activate it again after 30 seconds. If the error code (‘E’) comes on again, disconnect the hob from the electrical supply. After 30 seconds, connect the hob again. If the problem continues, speak to an Authorised Service Centre.

A constant beep noise indicates that the electrical connection is incorrect. Disconnect the hob from the electrical supply and ask a qualified electrician to check the installation.
