What are the key product features of the TELEX AD-200?

The TELEX AD-200 has the following features:

• Supplied with SO-239 (UHF) type connectors for compatibility with standard 50 ohm coaxial connectors.

• Coaxial cables are supplied for splitter to receiver antenna jack connections.

• It has an external AC power supply.

• Power out jacks and cables are provided to supply up to four receivers, eliminating excess power supply clutter.

• A green LED on the front panel indicates power ON.

• A “rocker” type switch controls power to the splitter and receivers.

• Rack panel mounting brackets are included to mount the AD-200 in a standard 19-inch equipment rack.

How should I place the antennas for the TELEX AD-200?

Locate the antennas in clear view of all points in the performing area. Be sure obstructions DO NOT block, absorb, or reflect the transmitted signal. A location in, or adjacent to, the performing area is optimal. Any antenna used should be mounted within line-of-sight of the transmitters.

How do I set up a typical system configuration with the TELEX AD-200?

A typical system configuration allows you to operate four wireless diversity microphone receivers using only two antennas.

1. Connect two antennas to the INPUT A and INPUT B jacks on the rear of the TELEX AD-200.

2. Connect the coaxial cables from the OUTPUT A jacks (1, 2, 3, 4) to the corresponding ‘A’ antenna inputs on your four diversity receivers.

3. Connect the coaxial cables from the OUTPUT B jacks (1, 2, 3, 4) to the corresponding ‘B’ antenna inputs on your four diversity receivers.

4. Connect the main power supply to the POWER IN jack on the AD-200.

5. Use the provided DC power cables to connect from the POWER OUT jacks on the AD-200 to the DC power inputs on your receivers.

6. Turn on the power switch on the front panel of the AD-200.

Can I connect two TELEX AD-200 splitters together (cascade them)?

Yes, two splitters can be cascaded. By connecting one of the outputs of the first splitter to the antenna inputs of the second splitter, three additional receivers may be driven by a single pair of antennas.

IMPORTANT: The outputs from the second (secondary) splitter should be connected to receivers only. DO NOT feed splitters from secondary units.

What should I do with unused splitter outputs on the TELEX AD-200?

In any system, unused splitter outputs should be terminated with a 50 ohm “dummy load”. The part number for the 50 ohm dummy load (TP-1) is 650081.

What are the power supply specifications and how do I power receivers from the TELEX AD-200?

The TELEX AD-200 is equipped with a power supply that is rated with a minimum output of 15 VDC at 1.3 amps. Power cables are provided to hook up receivers and have 2.1 mm X 5.5 mm barrel connectors on both ends. These cables can be used to connect the POWER OUT jacks on the AD-200 to the power inputs of up to four receivers, eliminating excess power supply clutter.

How do I modify the power cables from the TELEX AD-200 for older receivers like the FMR-1, FMR-2, and FMR-50?

The supplied power cables with 2.1 mm x 5.5 mm barrel connectors will fit most Telex wireless receivers. To accommodate the FMR-1, FMR-2, and FMR-50 receivers, you must modify a cable:

1. Cut off the 2.1 mm plug on one end of the power cable.

2. Replace it with a 2.5 mm x 5.5 mm barrel plug.

3. Be sure the center pin is connected to the center pin on both plugs.

What are the antenna requirements for the TELEX AD-200?

The TELEX AD-200 may be used with a variety of antennas.

• For best results, use a pair of ALP-1 directional log periodic antennas. The ALP-1 offers the best performance and broadest bandwidth available.

• Good results may also be obtained with 5/8 wave antennas, such as those supplied with the FMR-200, FMR-4, and FMR-2.

• When using 5/8 wave antennas, it is recommended to use the higher frequency model when the transmitters operate in both the 159-185 MHz and 185-216 MHz bands.

Can I use 1/4 wave antennas with the TELEX AD-200?

The 1/4 wave antennas, such as those supplied with the FMR-100, FMR-70, and R-20, are not recommended but may be used if precautions are taken. The only acceptable configuration for 1/4 wave antenna use is when the splitter is not rack mounted. The antennas must be mounted on the AD-200 in the same manner as shown in the receiver manuals.

How do I rack mount the TELEX AD-200?

To attach the rack mount brackets and install the unit in a rack, proceed as follows:

1. Align the rack bracket with the holes on the side of the unit.

2. Install flatwashers and No. 6 screws in the holes. Tighten securely.

3. Repeat on the other side of the unit. For best alignment, perform these steps while the unit and rack brackets are sitting on a flat surface.

4. Insert the unit into a 19″ rack enclosure and insert four #10-32 x 3/8″ Phillips pan head screws (supplied) in each corner of the rack mount brackets and secure.

What are the recommendations for coaxial cables with the TELEX AD-200?

For best results, it is recommended that cable losses be kept under 4 dB. Every 3 dB of signal loss results in a system operating distance reduction of 25%.

• For cable runs up to 50 feet, RG58/U cable will work fine.

• For runs over 50 feet, use standard RG8/U or Belden type 8214 cable.

The following table shows cable losses for different cable types and lengths. Numbers in bold type indicate recommendations to use particular cable types for various cable lengths based on economy vs cable loss.

COAX CABLE LOSS

Length (ft.) of Coax Cable Signal Loss (dB)
Standard RG58/U Standard RG8/U Polyfoam-type RG8/U
