It is important to understand that common sense, caution, and carefulness are factors that cannot be built into the tumbler and must be supplied by the person(s) installing, maintaining, or operating it.

Operational Warning: To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury, or death to persons, do not operate the tumbler if it does not perform according to these instructions. Immediately disconnect electrical service and contact an authorized service representative. Service and repairs are to be performed by authorized service representatives only.

User Safety Warning: To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury, or death to persons when using the tumbler unit, follow these basic precautions:

• Read all instructions before using the tumbler.

• DO NOT tamper with controls.

• DO NOT bypass any safety devices.

• Always follow the fabric care instructions supplied by the garment manufacturer.

• Remove laundry immediately after the tumbler stops.

• DO NOT reach into the tumbler if the cylinder is revolving.

Flammable Materials Warning: To avoid creating any flammable vapors which may explode, ignite, or cause corrosive damage, DO NOT dry the following materials:

• Articles that have been cleaned in, soaked in, washed in, or spotted with gasoline, dry cleaning solvents, or other flammable/explosive substances.

• Plastics or articles containing foam rubber or similarly textured rubberlike materials.

• Articles that have traces of flammable substances like cooking oil, machine oil, flammable chemicals, or thinner.

• Articles containing wax or cleaning chemicals.

• Fiberglass curtains or draperies (unless the label says it can be done).

Access Warning: To reduce the risk of serious injury, install lockable door(s) to prevent public access to the rear of tumblers.

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, serious injury, or death to persons when using your SPEED QUEEN SC75CE, follow these basic precautions:

1. Do not allow children to play on or in the tumbler. Close supervision of children is necessary when the tumbler is used near children. This is a safety rule for all appliances.

2. Before the tumbler is removed from service or discarded, remove the door to the drying compartment.

3. Do not install or store the tumbler where it will be exposed to water and/or weather.

4. Failure to install, maintain, and/or operate this machine according to the manufacturer’s instructions may result in conditions which can produce serious injury, death, and/or property damage.

5. Run the tumbler with a load before putting it into service.

6. Always disconnect the electrical power to the tumbler before servicing. Disconnect power by shutting off the appropriate circuit breaker or fuse and by turning off the disconnect switch located on the rear of the tumbler.

7. If an external emergency stop switch is installed on coin-operated models, activating it stops all machine control circuit functions but does not remove all electrical power from the machine.

The model and serial numbers for your SPEED QUEEN SC75CE will be found on the nameplate. This nameplate is located on the rear of the tumbler or underneath the door hinge.

Upon delivery, visually inspect the crate, carton, and parts for any visible shipping damage. If there are signs of damage, have the carrier note the condition on the shipping papers before signing the receipt, or inform the carrier as soon as possible. Remove the crate and protective cover, check items against the packing list, and file a written claim with the carrier immediately if any articles are damaged or missing.

IMPORTANT: Remove the shipping tape from the two back draft dampers located in the exhaust thimble.

Materials Required (Obtain Locally):

For your SPEED QUEEN SC75CE, you will need to obtain one circuit breaker.

Facilities Required:

Floor: The tumbler may be installed on any level floor capable of supporting 100 pounds per square foot (488 kg/m²). Floor coverings like carpeting or tile should be removed.

Layout: Whenever possible, install the tumbler along an outside wall to keep the duct length to a minimum and to allow for easy access to make-up air. Construction must not block airflow at the top rear of the tumbler, as this would prevent an adequate air supply.

Venting: For maximum efficiency and minimal lint accumulation, tumbler air must be exhausted to the outdoors by the shortest possible route.

Make-Up Air: Provisions must be made for make-up air to replace the air exhausted by the tumbler.

Venting Requirements:

Properly sized exhaust ducts are essential. All elbows should be sweep-type. Exhaust ducts must be made of sheet metal or other noncombustible material, with smooth interior surfaces to reduce lint accumulation. Do not use sheet metal screws to join vent sections. Where the duct pierces a combustible wall or ceiling, a 4-inch (10.2 cm) larger opening must be provided with the duct centered. The space around the duct must be sealed with non-combustible material.

• Individual Venting: It is preferred to exhaust tumblers individually. The cross area of the installed venting must not be less than the cross area of the tumbler’s exhaust thimble.

• Collector Venting: A main collector duct may be used if sized properly. It must be tapered, and individual tumbler ducts must enter at a 45° angle in the direction of airflow. Never connect a duct at a 90° angle. The system must be designed so static back pressure does not exceed the maximum specified on the installation sticker.

Make-Up Air Requirements:

A forced-air exhaust tumbler like the SPEED QUEEN SC75CE requires make-up air. The recommended opening for a 75-pound tumbler is 195 square inches (1258 sq. cm). At a minimum, there must be at least 1 sq. inch of opening for every 1000 BTU/hr of input rating. Protective louvers can reduce air movement by about 40%, so the opening size must compensate for this. If make-up air needs to be ducted to the tumbler, increase the area of the ductwork by 25% to compensate for restriction.

Warning: DO NOT exhaust tumbler air into a window well, gas vent, chimney, or enclosed, unventilated area such as an attic, wall, ceiling, crawl space, or concealed space of a building.

Electrical Requirements:

Refer to the following tables for the specific electrical requirements for the 75-pound electric models.

Requirements (Wires and Terminal Block Connection)

NOTE: DO NOT use aluminum wire.

Grounding Instructions:

The SPEED QUEEN SC75CE must be grounded to reduce the risk of electric shock. It must be connected to a grounded metal, permanent wiring system, or have an equipment grounding conductor run with the circuit conductors and connected to the PE Busbar.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock, check with a qualified serviceman for proper grounding procedures. Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. If the electrical supply is coming from a three-phase service, DO NOT connect a “Stinger Leg” to a single-phase machine.

WARNING: All electrical connections should be made by a qualified electrician. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, de-energize the electrical circuit being connected to the tumbler before making any connections. Never attempt to connect a live circuit.

Follow these steps:

1. Install a circuit breaker as close to the tumbler as possible. Each tumbler should have its own circuit breaker for maintenance purposes.

2. Perform the following connections:

a. Connect conduit-encased leads to the circuit breaker.

b. Turn “off” the disconnect switch on the tumbler and open the junction box.

c. Insert the conduit-encased leads through a knockout hole in the junction box.

d. Connect wire leads to the disconnect switch. For 3 Phase Units, connect one lead to each connection point.

e. Connect a ground wire to the PE Busbar in the junction box.

3. For three-phase units only, check the electrical service phase sequence:

a. Energize the electrical service and momentarily start the tumbler. Check the direction of cylinder rotation. If the cylinder rotates clockwise (viewed from the front), the phase sequence is correct.

b. If the cylinder rotates counterclockwise, disconnect power and reverse any two leads at the connections.

4. Close the junction box cover and turn the disconnect switch to “on”.

Positioning:

The tumbler can be removed from its shipping skid before or after moving it to the installation location. To remove it, unscrew the four shipping capscrews (one at each corner). The lint panel door may need to be removed to access the two front capscrews.

NOTE: Do not throw these four capscrews away – they are the leveling legs.

Screw the four leveling legs back into the level adjusting fittings from the top. Slide the tumbler to its permanent location. Keep the tumbler as close to the floor as possible, ensuring all four legs rest firmly on the floor so the weight is evenly distributed and the tumbler does not rock.

Leveling:

The tumbler should be leveled within 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from front to rear and 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from side to side. Check the front-to-rear level by rotating the cylinder until one rib is at the bottom, then place a level on that bottom rib. Check the side-to-side level by placing a level on the front and rear of the top panel.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious injury, install lockable doors to prevent public access to the rear of tumblers.

IMPORTANT: Do not block airflow at the top rear of the tumbler with laundry, etc. Doing so would prevent adequate air supply to the tumbler’s heat chamber.

When installing your SPEED QUEEN SC75CE in an enclosure, follow these guidelines:

• The clearance of the tumbler cabinet from combustible construction must be a minimum of 12 inches (30.5 cm) at the top.

• 0″ clearance is permitted for the first 4 inches (10.16 cm) along the front of the machine.

• At the rear, allow 24 inches (61 cm) minimum, with 36 inches (91.4 cm) recommended for maintenance purposes.

• Install tumblers with sufficient clearance for servicing and operating.

Preliminary Operating Checks:

1. Remove or open all panels and inspect accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for security.

2. Check belt tension and adjust if necessary (refer to Adjustment Section).

3. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler circuit breaker and turn on the tumbler disconnect switch.

4. Press and hold in the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. Release the button and open the cylinder door. The cylinder should stop rotating within seven (7) seconds after the door is opened 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm). If it doesn’t stop, adjust the cylinder door interlock.

5. Load the tumbler with clothes or clean rags.

6. Start the tumbler.

7. Check the airflow switch operation by opening the lint panel. The heating system should shut off when the lint panel is opened approximately 6″ (15.24 cm) with a full load. Adjust if necessary.

8. Turn off the tumbler.

Final Operating Checks (Coin Operated Tumbler):

1. Set the temperature selector to HIGH.

2. Insert the required amount of coins.

3. Press and hold the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. The motor will start and the heat system will turn on.

4. Near the end of the cycle, a preset 2 1/2 minute cool-down cycle will start.

5. When the metered time expires, the motor will stop, indicating the drying cycle is finished.

Electronic Control Tumbler:

The SPEED QUEEN SC75CE comes equipped with an Electronic Control that offers a variety of programming options. To learn how to use the Electronic Control, consult the supplemental manual.

Air Flow Switch (Electric Models):

The air flow switch is factory-set but can be adjusted if needed. A clogged lint screen, lack of make-up air, or duct obstructions can affect its operation. Check these first. The switch disc must remain closed during operation. If it opens and closes, it indicates insufficient airflow. The counterweight should be adjusted so the airflow forces the disc away from the cabinet when the lint panel is opened 6 inches (15.24 cm) with a full load. To adjust:

1. Load the tumbler and start it.

2. Open the lint panel 6 inches. If the airflow disc moves away, opening the switch contacts and shutting off heat, the adjustment is correct.

3. If it does not open, make it MORE sensitive by depressing the spring clip and moving the counterweight toward the disc. Retest.

4. If it opens BEFORE 6 inches, make it LESS sensitive by depressing the spring clip and moving the counterweight away from the disc. Retest.

Loading Door Switch:

This switch turns off the tumbler when the door is opened. To adjust:

1. Start the tumbler.

2. Slowly open the door. The cylinder and heating should stop when the door is open 3″ (7.5 cm) ± 1/4″ (0.635 cm).

3. Slowly close the door. The switch should “click” when the door is closed to 3″ (7.5 cm) ± 1/4″ (0.635 cm).

4. If it does not close correctly, close the door, loosen the lower screw on the switch coupler, rotate the coupler COUNTERCLOCKWISE until it stops, tighten the screw, and re-test.

Cylinder Door Strike:

The door strike must be adjusted to hold the door closed against the tumbling load. Proper adjustment requires 8 to 15 pounds (35.6 N – 66.7 N) of pull to open the door. To adjust, open the door, loosen the jamnut on the strike, and turn the strike screw in or out as needed. Retighten the jamnut.

Drive V-Belt:

WARNING: Disconnect power before performing this operation. The guard MUST be reinstalled after adjustment.

Proper tension is when the belt can be depressed about 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) with light thumb pressure midway between the sheave and motor pulley. To adjust:

1. Remove the guard from the rear of the tumbler.

2. Loosen the adjusting bolt holding the idler housing assembly.

3. To tighten: Loosen the lower nut on the adjusting bolt, turn the bolt up until tension is correct, then tighten the upper and lower nut.

4. To loosen: Loosen the top nut on the adjusting bolt, turn the bolt down until tension is correct, then tighten the upper and lower nut.

5. The upper Poly V-belt is self-adjusting and requires no adjustment.

6. Replace the guard.

Daily:

1. Make certain the drying cycle has ended.

2. Open the loading door.

3. Unlock and remove the lint panel.

4. Remove accumulated lint in the lint compartment.

5. Clean lint from the lint screen. Replace immediately if torn.

6. Ensure the lint screen covers the entire opening in the lint screen hood.

7. Wipe any accumulated lint off the thermostat sensing probe.

8. Replace and securely lock the lint panel.

Monthly:

1. Perform daily cleaning.

2. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the disconnect switch.

3. Remove the exhaust duct from the rear of the tumbler and clean out all accumulated lint.

4. Reinstall the exhaust duct.

5. Remove the bottom cover from the vertical exhaust duct and clean it.

6. Reinstall the vertical exhaust duct cover.

7. Inspect the entire ductwork assembly and clean out all lint.

8. Energize the electrical circuit by turning on the disconnect switch.

Quarterly:

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit.

2. Perform daily and monthly cleaning.

3. Clean accumulated lint and debris from front and back motor air vents.

4. Remove the screws holding the rear drive guard.

5. Inspect belts for wear and proper tension (refer to Adjustments section).

6. Reinstall the rear drive guard.

7. Energize the electrical circuit.

Biannually:

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit.

2. Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly inspections and cleaning.

3. Remove or open all panels and check accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for tightness.

4. Close and securely lock the service panel.

5. Open the electrical junction box cover and inspect all electrical and grounding connections for security. Tighten any loose connections.

6. Close the junction box cover and energize the electrical circuit.
