Before using your MIELE KM 7697 FR for the first time, you should perform the following steps:

1. Please stick the extra data plate for the appliance supplied with this documentation in the space provided in the “Service” section of the booklet. Alternatively, the additional label can be stuck near the appliance if the appliance markings are not visible after installation.

2. Remove any protective wrapping and stickers (except the data plate).

3. Clean the cooktop with a damp cloth only and then wipe dry.

When switching on the cooktop for the first time, you may notice a slight smell from the protective coating on the metal components and induction coils. This is normal and not hazardous to health. The smell will dissipate with use.

To connect your MIELE KM 7697 FR using the Miele App, ensure you have a home Wi-Fi network and have downloaded the app. You will need your Wi-Fi network password and the cooktop’s password (the last nine digits of the serial number, found on the data plate).

1. Install the Miele App on your mobile device.

2. Switch the cooktop on.

3. Place an induction-compatible pan on the cooktop.

4. Start the Miele App.

5. Touch and hold the 0 and 5 sensor controls on the numerical keybank at the same time for 6 seconds. The seconds will count down in the timer display.

6. When the time has elapsed, the code C:01 will be displayed in the timer display for 10 seconds. You now have 10 minutes to configure the Wi-Fi.

7. Follow the instructions in the Miele App to complete the setup.

To connect using WPS, you must have a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) compatible router.

1. Switch the cooktop on.

2. Place an induction-compatible pan on the cooktop.

3. Touch and hold the 0 and 6 sensor controls on the numerical keybank at the same time for 6 seconds. The timer display will show a countdown.

4. After the countdown, a progress light will appear during the connection attempt (max. 120 seconds). The WPS login is only active during this time.

5. Activate the WPS function on your router.

If the connection is successful, C:02 appears in the timer display. If it fails, C:01 will appear, likely because WPS was not activated on the router quickly enough. Repeat the steps if necessary.

Reset the Wi-Fi settings if you are disposing of your cooktop, selling it, or putting a used cooktop into operation to ensure all personal data is removed.

1. Switch the cooktop on.

2. Place an induction-compatible pan on the cooktop.

3. Touch and hold the 0 and 9 sensor controls on the numerical keybank at the same time for 6 seconds.

4. The seconds will be seen counting down in the timer display. When this time has elapsed, the code C:00 is displayed in the timer display for 10 seconds, confirming the reset.

The MIELE KM 7697 FR cooktop is equipped with electronic sensor controls that react to finger contact. An acoustic signal sounds each time you touch a sensor.

Switching on the cooktop:

Touch the On/Off ① sensor. Further sensor controls will light up.

Positioning cookware:

You can place up to 6 pans anywhere on the useable surface. For best results, switch the cooktop on before placing pans on it. If using multiple pans, position them far apart for individual recognition.

Setting the power level:

1. Place the pans in the required position on the cooktop. The corresponding numerical keybank will light up.

2. Touch the appropriate number sensor on the numerical keybank for the power level you want. For an intermediate power level (e.g., 7.5), touch the space between two numbers (7 and 8).

Switching the cooktop off:

Touch the On/Off ① sensor.

For your MIELE KM 7697 FR induction cooktop, you must use cookware with a magnetic base.

Suitable pans:

• stainless steel pans with a base that can be magnetised

• enamelled steel pans

• cast iron pans

Unsuitable pans:

• stainless steel pans with a base which cannot be magnetised

• aluminium or copper pans

• glass, ceramic or earthenware pots and pans

Testing cookware:

To test if your cookware is suitable, hold a magnet to the base of the pan. If the magnet sticks, the pan is generally suitable for induction cooking.

Pan size:

• Round pans should have a base diameter from 145 mm up to 350 mm.

• Pans with a base diameter between 100 mm and 145 mm may not be detected in every position.

• Oval/Square pans must not exceed dimensions of 380 mm x 300 mm.

Follow these tips to save energy while using your MIELE KM 7697 FR cooktop:

• Use a lid whenever possible to minimise heat loss.

• Select a smaller pan when cooking small quantities. A smaller pan uses less energy than a larger pan with very little in it.

• Cook with as little water as possible.

• Once food has come to the boil or the oil in the pan is hot enough for frying, reduce the heat to a lower setting.

• Use a pressure cooker to reduce cooking times.

The following table provides a guide for power level settings on your MIELE KM 7697 FR. These settings can be adjusted to suit your specific pans and ingredients.

The Auto heat-up function automatically uses the highest setting to heat up and then switches to a pre-selected lower setting for continued cooking.

Activating Auto heat-up:

Touch the sensor for the continued cooking setting you want until a tone sounds and the sensor starts to pulsate. During the heat-up time, the selected setting will pulsate.

Deactivating Auto heat-up:

Touch the sensor for the continued cooking setting again, or set a different power level.

The heat-up time depends on the continued cooking setting selected:

*The settings with a dot are only available if the power level range has been extended in the programming menu.

The TwinBooster function provides a boost of power to heat large quantities quickly, active for a maximum of 15 minutes. You can use the Booster with a maximum of 3 pans at the same time.

Activating TwinBooster Level 1:

1. Place the pan in the required position.

2. Select a power level if necessary.

3. Touch the B sensor control. The indicator light for level 1 lights up.

Activating TwinBooster Level 2:

1. Place the pan in the required position.

2. Select a power level if necessary.

3. Touch the B sensor control twice. The indicator light for level 2 lights up.

Deactivating TwinBooster:

Touch the B sensor control repeatedly until the indicator lights go out, or simply set a different power level.

This function keeps freshly cooked food warm for up to 2 hours. It is not for reheating cold food.

Activating/Deactivating:

Touch the ‘keeping warm’ sensor control (symbol looks like III) on the corresponding numerical keybank.

Keeping warm temperatures:

The default temperature is 75 °C. This can be changed in the programming menu. Here are some guidelines:

The cooktop must be switched on to use the timer. You can set a minute minder and an automatic switch-off time simultaneously. Durations are from 1 minute (0:01) to 9 hours 59 minutes (9:59).

Setting the minute minder:

1. Touch the minute minder sensor (clock symbol).

2. The timer display flashes. Set the required time using the numerical keybank.

3. Touch the minute minder sensor again or wait 10 seconds to start.

To cancel, touch the minute minder sensor and then touch 0 on the keybank.

Setting automatic switch-off for a pan:

1. Select a power level for the pan.

2. Touch the auto switch-off sensor (clock with dot symbol).

3. The timer display flashes. Set the required switch-off time.

4. Touch the auto switch-off sensor again or wait 10 seconds to start. The indicator light for that pan will pulsate.

To delete, select the pan by touching the auto switch-off sensor until its indicator pulsates, then touch 0 on the keybank.

Using both functions:

If both functions are active, the shortest remaining time is always displayed. To view other times, touch the respective timer sensor (minute minder or auto switch-off).

Your MIELE KM 7697 FR has several additional functions for convenience and safety:

Stop & Go:

Touch the II/▶ sensor to reduce all power levels to 1. Timer functions continue to run. Touch the sensor again to resume the previously set power levels. If not deactivated within 1 hour, the cooktop switches off.

Recall:

If the cooktop is switched off by mistake, switch it on again within 10 seconds. The previous power levels will flash. Press any of the flashing power level indicators to restore all settings.

Wipe protection:

Touch the ‘hand’ sensor to lock all sensors (except On/Off) for 20 seconds to allow for cleaning spills without changing settings. The timer display will show a countdown.

Demonstration/Showroom mode:

This allows demonstration of functions without heating. See the “Programming” section for activation/deactivation.

Displaying cooktop data:

• Model/Serial number: With the cooktop on and a pan in place, touch and hold 0 and 4 for a few seconds.

• Software version: With the cooktop on and a pan in place, touch and hold 0 and 3 for a few seconds.

System lock (Child lock):

This is activated when the cooktop is switched off to prevent it from being switched on by mistake.

• To activate: With the cooktop off, touch and hold the On/Off ① sensor for 6 seconds. The timer will count down, and then LOC will appear.

• To deactivate: Touch and hold the On/Off ① sensor for 6 seconds. LOC will appear briefly, then the countdown will start. The lock is deactivated once the time has elapsed.

Safety lock:

This is activated while the cooktop is in use to prevent settings from being altered.

• To activate: With the cooktop on, touch and hold the auto switch-off (clock with dot) and Stop & Go (II/▶) sensors at the same time for 6 seconds. LOC will appear when activated.

• To deactivate: Touch and hold the auto switch-off and Stop & Go sensors at the same time for 6 seconds.

You can adapt various cooktop settings to your personal needs in programming mode.

Calling up programming mode:

With the cooktop switched off, press and hold the On/Off ① and Stop & Go (II/▶) sensors together until the ‘keeping warm’ symbol lights up and PC appears in the timer display. P:01 will then flash alternately with C:01.

Setting a programme:

While the programme number (e.g., P:01) is visible, touch the auto switch-off sensor repeatedly to cycle through the programme numbers, or touch the desired number on the keybank.

Setting the code:

While the code number (e.g., C:01) is visible, touch the minute minder sensor repeatedly to cycle through the code numbers for that programme, or touch the desired number on the keybank.

How to save the settings:

Touch the On/Off ① sensor control until the indicators go out.

To keep your cooktop in good condition, clean it after every use once it has cooled down.

Daily cleaning:

1. Remove any coarse soiling with a damp cloth. For stubborn soiling, use a glass scraper.

2. Clean the ceramic surface with a proprietary ceramic glass cleaning agent, like the Miele ceramic and stainless steel cooktop cleaner. Do not apply cleaner while the cooktop is hot.

3. Finally, wipe the cooktop with a damp cloth and dry it with a soft, dry cloth to prevent limescale residue.

Cleaning sugar, plastic, or aluminium foil spills:

These can damage the ceramic surface if they melt and cool down. Act immediately.

1. First, switch off the appliance.

2. While the surface is still hot, carefully scrape off the residues using a shielded scraper blade suitable for glass. Wear oven gloves for protection.

3. Afterwards, clean the ceramic surface in its cooled state, as described in the daily cleaning section.

Unsuitable cleaning agents:

Do not use washing-up liquid, abrasive cleaners, solvent-based agents, dishwasher cleaner, or hard/abrasive sponges, as these can damage the surface.

If you are experiencing unsatisfactory cooking results, consider the following:

Problem: The food hardly heats up, or not at all, when Auto heat-up is on.

• Cause: There is too much food in the pan.

• Remedy: Start cooking at the highest power level and then manually turn it down to a lower one later on.

• Cause: The pan is not conducting heat properly.

• Remedy: Use a different pan which is better able to conduct heat (e.g., one with a quality sandwich base).

Problem: There are slight differences in cooking durations and browning in comparable processes.

• Cause: This is not a fault. The pan base material and the positions of the pans on the cooktop affect the power of the induction coils, which in turn affects the cooking behaviour.

If the cooktop cannot be switched on, there is likely an issue with the power supply.

Cause: There is no power to the cooktop.

• Remedy: Check if the circuit breaker has tripped. Contact an electrician or Miele if you are unsure.

Cause: There may be a technical fault.

• Remedy: Disconnect the cooktop from the mains electricity supply for approximately 1 minute. You can do this by switching it off at the wall socket and withdrawing the plug, or by switching off the mains circuit breaker.

• If, after restoring power, the cooktop still does not switch on, contact a qualified electrician or Miele.
