Before using your MIELE KM 7678 FL for the first time, you should clean the cooktop with a damp cloth only and then wipe it dry. Also, remember to remove any protective wrapping and stickers, but leave the data plate in place.

When you heat it up for the first time, the metal components and induction coils may give off a slight smell. This is normal due to a protective coating and will dissipate with use. The smell and any vapours are not hazardous to health.

To connect your MIELE KM 7678 FL using the Miele App, you will need your Wi-Fi network password and the cooktop’s password (the last nine digits of the serial number found on the data plate).

1. Install the Miele App on your mobile device.

2. Switch the cooktop on.

3. Place an induction-compatible pan on the cooktop.

4. Start the Miele App.

5. Touch and hold the 0 and 5 sensor controls on the numerical keybank at the same time for 6 seconds. The seconds will count down in the timer display.

6. When the time has elapsed, the code C:01 will be displayed for 10 seconds. You now have 10 minutes to configure the Wi-Fi.

7. Follow the instructions in the Miele App to complete the connection.

To use this method, you must have a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) compatible router.

1. Switch the cooktop on.

2. Place an induction-compatible pan on the cooktop.

3. Touch and hold the 0 and 6 sensor controls on the numerical keybank at the same time for 6 seconds. The seconds will count down in the timer display.

4. When the time has elapsed, a progress light will appear during the connection attempt (max. 120 seconds).

5. Activate the WPS function on your router within these 120 seconds.

If the connection is successful, C:02 will appear in the timer display. If it fails, C:01 will appear, likely because you did not activate WPS on your router quickly enough. If so, repeat the steps.

You should reset the network settings if you are disposing of your cooktop, selling it, or putting a used cooktop into operation. This ensures all personal data is removed.

1. Switch the cooktop on.

3. Touch and hold the 0 and 9 sensor controls on the numerical keybank at the same time for 6 seconds.

4. The seconds will count down in the timer display. When the time has elapsed, the code C:00 will be displayed for 10 seconds, confirming the reset.

Buzzing: You might hear a buzz on higher power levels. This will decrease or stop when the power level is reduced.

Cracking: If a pan base is made of layers of different materials, it might emit a cracking sound.

Whirring: The cooling fan may switch on when the cooktop is used intensively to protect the electronics. This whirring sound may continue for a while after the cooktop has been switched off.

Suitable pans:

To test if a pan is suitable, hold a magnet to its base. If the magnet sticks, the pan is generally suitable.

Unsuitable pans:

– Stainless steel pans with a base that cannot be magnetised

– Aluminium or copper pans

– Glass, ceramic or earthenware pots and pans

Cookware Tips:

– Use only pots and pans with smooth bases to avoid scratching the ceramic glass.

– Always lift cookware to move it; do not slide it.

– The base diameter is more important than the top rim diameter. Round pans should have a base diameter of 145 mm to 350 mm. Oval/Square pans should not exceed 380 mm x 300 mm.

Energy Saving Tips:

– Use a lid whenever possible to minimise heat loss.

– Select a smaller pan when cooking small quantities.

– Cook with as little water as possible.

– Once food comes to a boil or oil is hot enough for frying, reduce the heat to a lower setting.

Switching On:

Touch the On/Off ① sensor. Further sensor controls will light up.

Positioning Cookware:

Place the pan(s) on the cooktop. The corresponding numerical keybank will light up.

Setting the Power Level:

Touch the appropriate number sensor on the numerical keybank for the desired power level. If you have extended the power level range, touch between two numbers to select an interim level (e.g., touch between 7 and 8 to select 7.).

Switching Off:

Touch the On/Off ① sensor.

After switching off, a residual heat indicator (a dot above power levels 1, 2, or 3) will remain lit until the surface is safe to touch.

Auto heat-up automatically uses the highest setting to heat up quickly and then reduces to a pre-selected lower setting for continued cooking.

Activating:

Touch the sensor for the desired continued cooking setting and hold it until a tone sounds and the sensor starts to pulsate.

Deactivating:

Touch the pulsating sensor for the continued cooking setting again, or simply set a different power level.

The heat-up time depends on the continued cooking setting you choose:

*Settings with a dot are only available if the power level range has been extended in the programming menu.

The Booster function provides a temporary boost of power for a maximum of 15 minutes, ideal for heating large quantities of water quickly. You can use it with a maximum of 3 pans at once.

Activating Level 1:

Place a pan on the cooktop, select a power level if needed, then touch the B sensor control once. The indicator light for level 1 will light up.

Activating Level 2:

Place a pan on the cooktop, select a power level if needed, then touch the B sensor control twice. The indicator light for level 2 will light up.

Deactivating:

Touch the B sensor control repeatedly until the indicator lights go out, or simply set a different power level.

This function keeps freshly cooked food warm for up to 2 hours. It is not for reheating cold food.

To activate or deactivate: Touch the ‘keeping warm’ (III) sensor control on the corresponding numerical keybank.

The default temperature is 75 °C, but you can change this in the programming settings. The recommended temperatures for different uses are:

The cooktop has two timer functions: a minute minder and an automatic switch-off for a cooking zone.

Setting the Minute Minder:

1. Touch the minute minder (△) sensor. The timer display flashes.

2. Set the required time using the numerical keybank.

3. Touch the △ sensor again or wait 10 seconds to start the timer.

To cancel, touch the △ sensor then touch 0 on the keybank.

Setting Auto Switch-Off:

1. Select a power level for the pan you want to switch off.

2. Touch the auto switch-off (🕘) sensor. The timer display flashes.

3. Set the required time using the numerical keybank.

4. Touch the 🕘 sensor again or wait 10 seconds to start. The cookware allocation indicator light will pulsate.

To delete, touch the 🕘 sensor repeatedly until the correct indicator pulsates, then touch 0 on the keybank.

Stop & Go: Touch the II/▶ sensor to reduce the power on all active zones to level 1. Timers will continue to run. Touch the sensor again to resume the previous settings. If not deactivated within 1 hour, the cooktop will switch off.

Recall: If you accidentally switch the cooktop off, this function can restore your previous settings. Switch the cooktop back on within 10 seconds. The previous power levels will flash. Immediately press one of the flashing power level indicators to restore all settings.

Wipe Protection: To clean the controls during cooking, touch the wipe protection sensor. This locks all sensors (except the On/Off sensor) for 20 seconds. The timer display will count down. The lock deactivates automatically after 20 seconds, or you can touch the sensor again to deactivate it early.

System Lock (activated when cooktop is off):

– Activate: With the cooktop off, touch and hold the On/Off ① sensor for 6 seconds. LOC will appear in the timer display.

– Deactivate: Touch and hold the On/Off ① sensor for 6 seconds. LOC will appear briefly, then the countdown will start. The lock is deactivated when the time has elapsed.

Safety Lock (activated when cooktop is on):

– Activate: With the cooktop on, touch and hold the 🕘 and II/▶ sensors at the same time for 6 seconds. LOC will appear in the timer display.

– Deactivate: Touch and hold the 🕘 and II/▶ sensors at the same time for 6 seconds. LOC will appear briefly, then the countdown will start. The lock is deactivated when the time has elapsed.

You can customize various settings on your cooktop through the programming mode.

1. Enter Programming Mode: With the cooktop switched off, press and hold the On/Off ① and II/▶ sensors together until the timer display shows PC.

2. Select a Programme: P:01 will flash alternately with C:01. Touch the 🕘 sensor repeatedly or use the numerical keybank to select the Programme number you want to change (e.g., P:08 for System lock).

3. Select a Code: While the code is visible (e.g., C:00), touch the △ sensor repeatedly or use the numerical keybank to select the new setting Code you want.

4. Save Settings: While the programme is visible (e.g., P:08), touch the On/Off ① sensor until the indicators go out.

5. Exit Without Saving: While the code is visible (e.g., C:01), touch the On/Off ① sensor until the indicators go out.

The following settings can be customized. The factory-set code is shown in bold.

Always allow the cooktop to cool down before cleaning.

1. Remove any coarse soiling with a damp cloth. Remove more stubborn soiling with a glass scraper.

2. Clean the ceramic glass surface with a proprietary ceramic glass cleaner, such as the Miele ceramic and stainless steel cooktop cleaner. Apply it with a paper towel or a clean cloth.

3. Finally, wipe the cooktop with a damp cloth and dry it with a soft, dry cloth to prevent limescale residue.

Important: For spills of sugar, plastic, or aluminium foil on a hot surface, you must switch off the appliance and immediately scrape the residues off while they are still hot using a shielded glass scraper. Wear oven gloves to protect your hands. Afterwards, clean the cooled surface as described above.

To avoid damaging the surfaces of your cooktop, do not use:

– washing-up liquid

– cleaning agents containing soda, alkalines, ammonia, acids or chlorides

– cleaning agents containing descaling agents

– stain and rust removers

– abrasive cleaning agents (e.g. powder cleaners and cream cleaners)

– solvent-based cleaning agents

– dishwasher cleaner

– grill and oven cleaners

– glass cleaning agents

– hard, abrasive brushes or sponges (e.g. pot scourers)

– dirt erasers

Here are some common messages and their remedies:

‘Err’ flashes with ’30’: The cooktop is incorrectly connected. Disconnect it from the power supply and contact Miele or a qualified technician.

‘LOC’ appears after switching on: The system lock or safety lock is activated. Deactivate it as described in the safety features section.

‘dE’ appears after switching on and it doesn’t heat up: The cooktop is in demonstration mode. Touch the 0 sensor, then touch and hold the 0 and 2 sensors simultaneously until ‘dE’ flashes alternately with ‘OFF’.

A flashing ‘F’ appears above the On/Off sensor: One or more sensor controls are covered (e.g., by finger contact, food boiling over, or an object). Clean the area and/or remove the object.

‘Err’ flashes with ‘044’: The overheating protection mechanism has been activated. Allow the cooktop/cookware to cool down.

‘Err’ flashes with ‘047’, ‘048’, or ‘049’: The fan is blocked or defective. Remove any obstruction. If the fault persists, contact Miele.

‘E-digit’ (e.g., E-0) flashes with numbers like ‘120’, ‘121’, etc.: The fan is blocked or defective. Remove any obstruction. If the fault persists, contact Miele.

A message not listed appears: There is an electronic unit fault. Interrupt the power supply to the cooktop for approximately 1 minute. If the problem persists after power is restored, contact Miele.

Here are some common issues and solutions for unexpected behavior:

A pan is placed on the cooktop but is not detected (no keybank appears): The pan may be too small for that position, or it is unsuitable for induction. Try repositioning the pan or using a different, suitable pan.

The ‘pan’ symbol lights up: The pans are too close together. Reposition the pans further apart, moving them one at a time.

The set power level starts to flash after repositioning a pan: The pan cannot be detected in the new position. Touch the flashing power level to confirm. If it continues to flash, reposition the pan again.

A cooking zone switches off automatically: It has either been operated for too long (safety switch-off) or the overheating protection mechanism has been activated. You can set a power level again after a short time.

The Booster switches off early: The overheating protection mechanism has been activated.

The cooktop cannot be switched on: There is no power. Check if the circuit breaker has tripped. If that is not the issue, there may be a technical fault. Disconnect the cooktop from the mains electricity for 1 minute. If it still does not switch on, contact a qualified electrician or Miele.
