What are the important application instructions for the KARCHER SC 5 EASYFIX PREMIUM IRON?
Cleaning the floor areas: We recommend sweeping the floor or vacuum cleaning it before using the appliance. This way the floor will be cleared of dirt and loose particles before the wet cleaning.
Freshening up textiles: Prior to using the appliance, always check the compatibility of the textiles at a concealed point: Steam down the textile, allow it to dry and then check it for any change in colour or shape.
Cleaning coated or painted surfaces: ATTENTION: Damaged surfaces. Steam can loosen wax, furniture polish, plastic coatings or paint and edge band from edges. Do not direct the steam at glued laminated edges as the edge band may loosen. Do not use the appliance for cleaning unsealed wood or parquet floors. Do not use it for cleaning painted or plastic coated surfaces such as kitchen or living room furniture, doors or parquet. To clean these surfaces, steam a cloth briefly and use it to wipe over the surfaces.
Glass cleaner: ATTENTION: Glass breakages and damaged surfaces. Steam can damage sealed points of the window frame and, at low outside temperatures, lead to tension on the surface of window panes and hence to glass breakages. Do not direct the steam at sealed points on the window frame. At low outside temperatures, heat up the window panes by gently steaming the full surface of the glass. Clean the window area with a manual nozzle and cover. To remove the water, use a squeegee or wipe the surfaces dry.
How do I use the various accessories with my KARCHER SC 5 EASYFIX PREMIUM IRON?
Steam gun: The steam gun can be used for removing slight creases from hanging clothing items (steam from 10-20 cm distance) and for wiping damp dust (steam a cloth briefly and wipe over furniture).
Spotlight nozzle: Suitable for cleaning difficult to access areas, joins, fittings, drains, sinks, WCs, blinds, or radiators. The closer the nozzle is to the soiled area, the greater the cleaning efficiency. Treat larger lime deposits with a suitable detergent before steam cleaning (let it soak for approx. 5 minutes then steam it off).
Round brush (small): Used for cleaning stubborn dirt. It can be removed more easily by brushing. ATTENTION: The brush may scratch sensitive surfaces and is not suitable for cleaning them.
Round brush (large): Suitable for cleaning large rounded surfaces like wash basins, shower trays, bath tubs, and kitchen sinks. ATTENTION: The brush may scratch sensitive surfaces and is not suitable for cleaning them.
Power nozzle: Used for cleaning stubborn dirt, blowing down corners, joins, etc.
Manual nozzle: Used for cleaning small areas that can be washed down, shower cubicles, and mirrors.
Floor nozzle: Used for cleaning washable wall and floor coverings like stone floors, tiles, and PVC floors. ATTENTION: Damage due to build-up of steam can occur. Check heat resistance and steam effect on an inconspicuous area before use.
What are the guidelines for using the carpet glider on the KARCHER SC 5 EASYFIX PREMIUM IRON?
ATTENTION: Beware of damaging the carpet glider and carpet. Contamination on the carpet glider, as well as heat and moisture penetration, can result in the carpet being damaged.
Prior to application, check the heat resistance and impact of steam on the carpet at an insignificant spot with a small amount of steam.
Observe the cleaning instructions from the carpet manufacturer.
Ensure the carpet has been vacuumed and stains have been removed before using the carpet glider.
Remove any possible water accumulation (condensate) in the appliance by evaporating it into a drain before application and after operating pauses.
Only use the carpet glider with a floor cleaning cloth on the floor nozzle.
Steam clean with a weak steam stage.
Do not direct the steam continuously onto one spot (maximum 5 seconds) to avoid over-moistening and damage.
Do not use the carpet glider on deep-pile carpets.
How do I use the steam pressure iron with my KARCHER SC 5 EASYFIX PREMIUM IRON?
Initial Startup: ATTENTION: Material damage due to condensate/moisture may cause damage to sensitive floor coverings. If possible, perform ironing on a floor covering insensitive to condensation (e.g. tiles/stone). For sensitive floor coverings, ensure the area is adequately protected. The iron plate must be hot to prevent steam from condensing and dripping. Do not turn on the VapoHydro steam stage when the iron is plugged in, as the laundry will get wet.
Recommended Steam Stages:
| level | Clothing fabrics |
|---|---|
| Min. steam stage | Garments with few wrinkles |
| Max. steam stage | Jeans |
Procedure:
Step 1. Ensure tap water or a mixture of tap water and no more than 50% distilled water is in the steam boiler.
Step 2. Insert the steam plug of the iron into the unit plug until it clicks into place.
Step 3. Put the steam cleaner into operation.
Step 4. Wait until the steam cleaner is ready for use.
Step 5. The iron is ready for use as soon as the indicator light (orange) has gone out.
Step 6. The warning light comes on during use when the iron is reheating. The application must not be interrupted during reheating.
Steam Ironing: ATTENTION: Failure to observe the ironing information in the garment may result in damage. With the fixed, optimal temperature setting, all ironable textiles can be ironed without additional temperature setting. Smooth delicate fabrics and imprints on the back with steam without direct contact. Steaming fabrics at a distance of 2 to 3 cm will gently straighten the fibres. The iron is fitted with an automatic switch-off if not moved for more than 5 minutes. The iron can be held vertically for steaming curtains, dresses, etc.
Dry Ironing: ATTENTION: Water shortage in the steam boiler leads to damage to the device. Ensure there is water in the steam boiler. Failure to observe the ironing information in the garment may result in damage. Delicate fabrics and prints should not be dry ironed. Wait until the heating indicator light (orange) of the iron goes out. The iron is ready for ironing.
How and when should I descale the steam boiler of my KARCHER SC 5 EASYFIX PREMIUM IRON?
Descaling the steam boiler is not required if commercially available distilled water is used. Since lime clogs the appliance, we recommend descaling the appliance based on the number of times the water reservoir is filled as specified in the table (TF=tank fillings).
| Hardness range | °dH | mmol/l | TF |
|---|---|---|---|
| I soft | 0-7 | 0-1.3 | 100 |
| II Medium | 7-14 | 1.3-2.5 | 90 |
| III Hard | 14-21 | 2.5-3.8 | 75 |
| IV Very hard | >21 | >3.8 | 50 |
Your water board or municipal utilities authority can provide information on the hardness of tap water.

Why does my KARCHER SC 5 EASYFIX PREMIUM IRON have a long heating-up time or high water output?
A long heating-up time or high water output indicates that the steam boiler is scaled. You should descale the steam boiler.
For high water output, it could also be that the VapoHydro steam stage is set. In this case, turn the selector switch to the steam setting selection range.
What should I do if the steam pressure iron on my KARCHER SC 5 EASYFIX PREMIUM IRON “spits” water or has water droplets after breaks?
If the steam pressure iron “spits” water, you need to rinse or descale the steam boiler of the steam cleaner.
If water droplets come out after ironing breaks, it means that during longer ironing breaks, steam can condense in the steam line. After pauses in the ironing process, direct the blast of steam onto a cloth until the steam flows evenly.
