To prevent damage to your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, please follow these precautions:

Power: Always unplug the instrument from the electrical outlet when it is not in use to avoid electrical shock, fire, or circuit damage.

Environment:

– Do not use the instrument in a water vapor atmosphere. Condensed steam can cause inaccurate measurements and damage the sensor.

– The instrument is designed for clean air. Foreign materials or dust may damage the sensor and impede accurate measurements.

– Do not subject the instrument or probe to strong impacts like dropping or placing heavy objects on them.

– Do not pick up or carry the instrument by the probe cable, as it may cause a malfunction or break the wire.

– Do not touch the LCD screen with sharp objects or excessive pressure.

Maintenance and Storage:

– Never disassemble, modify, or repair the product.

– Remove batteries when storing for a long period. Do not leave exhausted batteries in the compartment. Insert batteries with the correct polarity to prevent leakage.

– Do not wipe the instrument with volatile solvents like thinner or benzene. Use a soft dry cloth. For persistent stains, use a cloth soaked in neutral detergent.

– Regularly check the probe head for contamination. To clean dust, use a blow brush or rinse with water and air-dry completely. Turn the power off before cleaning and never dry with heat.

– When storing, put the instrument in its carrying case and keep it in a place with an ambient temperature of -10 to 50°C and no condensation.

Static Electricity: Discharge any built-up static electricity from your body before touching the instrument.

Disposal: Do not dispose of the instrument as household waste. Disposal of the instrument and batteries should be in line with your local or national legislation.

The main body of the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 consists of the following components:

MENU Key:

SET Key:

– Executes the selected menu item or confirms a setting.

To install or replace the batteries in your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, follow these steps:

1. Turn the instrument over to view the backside.

2. Press down on the battery cover and slide it until it stops.

3. Lift the cover away from the body.

4. Insert six (6) AA size batteries, ensuring they are all of the same type. Follow the polarity chart indicated inside the compartment. Do not mix different types of batteries.

5. The following battery types can be used:

– Manganese AA size batteries

– Alkaline AA size batteries

– Ni-Cd AA size batteries

– Ni-MH AA size batteries

Note: Batteries cannot be recharged by the AC adapter.

6. Put the cover back on by reversing the removal procedure.

To connect the probe or probe cable to the main unit of the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, please follow these steps. Ensure the power is turned OFF before proceeding.

1. Align the connector of the probe or probe cable with the probe terminal on the main body. When connecting a probe directly, make sure the probe number faces the front of the main unit.

2. Line up the connector and the terminal and gently push until it clicks into place.

Important: Do NOT force the connector into the main body. Do NOT rotate the probe/probe cable once it is connected, as this may cause serious damage to the instrument.

To safely remove the probe or probe cable from the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, follow this procedure. Ensure the power is turned OFF before you begin.

1. Lightly lift the locking ring on the connector of the probe/probe cable.

2. While holding the lock ring up, pull the probe/probe cable straight out, away from the main body.

Important: Do NOT rotate the connector while it is connected to the main body, as doing so may cause serious damage to the instrument.

The power switch for the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 is located on the side of the instrument.

To Turn On:

– Move the power switch to the ‘|’ position.

– After connecting the probe, a test screen with the Kanomax logo, model, and firmware version will appear for a few seconds. The instrument will then switch to the Normal Mode screen.

– If a year has passed since the last calibration, a reminder notice will be displayed. You can press any key or wait 10 seconds for it to switch to the measurement screen.

To Turn Off:

– Move the power switch to the ‘O’ position.

If the “NO PROBE! CONNECT PROBE AND RESTART!” warning appears on the screen of your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, it means the probe is not connected properly.

To resolve this, turn the power off and check the connection of the probe to the main unit. Ensure it is securely plugged in, then turn the power back on.

The battery level indicator on the display of your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 shows the remaining battery power. The consumption rate depends on the measured air velocity.

– The indicator has several bars to show the battery level.

– When the batteries need to be replaced or recharged, the indicator will start blinking.

– If a high velocity is measured while the indicator is blinking, the screen may freeze.

– When the icon changes to a battery with an ‘X’ [X], it indicates a “Locked Status”. All functions will be locked, the current measurement will be canceled, and data will not be saved. To release the lock, turn off the power and replace the batteries.

For accurate measurements with your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, please follow these guidelines:

Air Velocity

– For uni-directional probes, make sure the direction mark on the probe is facing directly into the airflow. If you are unsure of the direction, slowly rotate the probe to find the maximum velocity reading.

– Ensure both the air velocity sensor and temperature compensation sensor are evenly exposed to the airflow under the same conditions.

– In environments with rapid temperature changes, wait at least 20 seconds for the reading to stabilize before starting the measurement to allow the probe to acclimate.

Air Temperature

– The response time for temperature is faster in higher wind speeds. The normal response time is about 30 seconds at 1 m/s air velocity. Wait for the reading to become stable before recording a measurement.

– When there is no airflow, the reading may be higher than the actual temperature due to heat from the air velocity sensor. It is recommended to slowly wave the probe (approx. 0.1 m/s) to obtain an accurate reading.

Humidity

– In environments with very high humidity or rapid temperature changes, readings may be higher than actual humidity due to condensation on the sensor. If this happens, allow the probe to dry in an atmosphere with 40%RH or less for 24 hours.

To perform a zero adjustment on the pressure sensor of your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 (available on models 6501-B0/-C0), follow these steps. Make sure both pressure ports (+) and (-) are open to the atmosphere before starting.

1. Press the MENU key to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the ▼ key to scroll down and select “8. PRESSURE ZERO”, then press SET.

3. With “1. ZERO ADJUST” selected, press SET.

4. Use the ▲/▼ keys to select “YES”, then press SET. The display should now read 0.00 kPa.

5. Use the ▼ key to select “2. SAVE INFO”, then press SET. This completes the zero adjustment, and you will be returned to the Main Menu.

Note: If you press MENU before saving, the adjustment will not be completed.

Before measuring volumetric flow rate, you must register the duct shape and size settings on your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21. You can register up to 25 different duct types.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the navigation keys to select “2. DUCT TYPE” and press SET.

Set Duct Entry No.:

3. “1. ENTRY No.” will be highlighted. Press SET.

4. Use the navigation keys to choose a memory address from 1 to 25 and press SET.

Set Duct Shape:

5. Select “2. SHAPE” and press SET.

6. Use the navigation keys to select “RECTANGLE” or “CIRCLE” and press SET.

Set Duct Size:

7. For a rectangular duct, select “3. WIDTH”, press SET, enter the width using the navigation keys, and press SET. Then select “4. HEIGHT”, press SET, enter the height, and press SET.

8. For a circular duct, select “3. DIAMETER”, press SET, enter the diameter using the navigation keys, and press SET.

Set Units:

9. Select “5. UNIT(mm/inch)” (or “4. UNIT” for a circular duct) and press SET.

10. Choose “mm” or “inch” and press SET.

Save the Setting:

11. Select “6. SAVE INFO” and press SET. This will complete the setup and return you to the Main Menu.

In Normal Mode, the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 allows you to cycle through different measurement screens. To change the displayed measurement parameter, press the MODE key.

The item changes in the following sequence:

1. Pressure Measurement Screen (on models with a pressure sensor)

2. Flow Rate Measurement Screen

3. Air Velocity Measurement Screen

When viewing the Flow Rate screen, the selected duct type will be shown at the lower left. To select a different registered duct type, press and hold the SET key while using the ▲/▼ keys to scroll through the duct numbers.

Note: If a duct type has not been registered or selected, the flow rate reading will show as “—-“. You must first register the duct dimensions.

The KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 has two hold functions available in NORMAL Mode:

Hold the Current Reading:

– While measuring, press the START/HOLD key once.

– The “HOLD” indicator will appear on the display, and the current reading will be frozen.

– To release the hold and resume live measurements, press the START/HOLD key again.

Hold the Maximum Value:

– While measuring, press and hold the START/HOLD key.

– The “HOLD” indicator will appear, and the instrument will display the maximum value reached for each parameter since the key was pressed.

– When you release the START/HOLD key, the reading will be frozen at that maximum value.

– To release the hold, press the START/HOLD key again.

The Time Constant (TC) on the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 determines the time span of the moving average for displayed readings. A longer time constant provides more stable readings, while a shorter one is more responsive to changes.

How to Set the Time Constant:

While in NORMAL Mode, press the ▲ or ▼ keys to cycle through the options: TC1, TC5, and TC10.

Time Constant Options:

– TC1: Displays the instantaneous value, updated every 1 second.

– TC5: Displays the moving average of the past 5 seconds, updated every second.

– TC10: Displays the moving average of the past 10 seconds, updated every second.

This function is only available in Normal Mode and does not apply in Calculation or Flow Rate Mode. By default, it applies only to Air Velocity and Air Flow. To apply it to Air Temperature, Humidity, and Pressure, you must change the settings in the UTILITY menu.

CALCULATION Mode on the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 automatically calculates the maximum, minimum, and mean of measured data over a set period. Follow these steps to set up and run a calculation:

1. Enter CALCULATION Mode:

– Press MENU, select “3. CALCULATION”, and press SET.

2. Configure Settings:

– 1. MODE: Select AVERAGE (measures continuously over the sampling time) or INSTANT (takes one measurement at the end of the sampling time) and press SET.

– 2. SAMPLING (TIME): Set the duration for each trial (1 to 999 seconds) and press SET.

– 3. SAMPLING(n): Set the number of trials to perform (1 to 9999 times) and press SET.

– 4. DATA STORAGE?: Select YES to save the results or NO to discard them after viewing, and press SET.

– 5. SET TO START: Press SET to save the settings and proceed to the measurement screen.

3. Perform Measurement:

– The “RDY” (Ready) screen will appear. Use the MODE key to change the parameter you want to measure (e.g., Air Velocity, Flow Rate).

– Press START/HOLD to begin the measurement. The screen will show “SMP” (Sampling) and the trial count.

– Press START/HOLD again to stop. If “DATA STORAGE” was set to YES, the data will be stored.

4. View Results:

– After all trials are finished, the results screen will display the MAX, AVG (Average), and MIN values.

– Press the ▲/▼ keys to cycle through results for different parameters (e.g., Air Velocity, Air Temp, Humidity, Dew Point, Discomfort Index).

– Press START/HOLD to return to the setup menu, or press MENU to return to the Main Menu.

The SINGLE FLOW RATE Mode is used for performing a duct traverse measurement. It calculates the average, maximum, and minimum values from all measured points.

1. Enter SINGLE FLOW RATE Mode:

– Press MENU, select “4. FLOW RATE”, press SET. Then select “1. SINGLE FLOW RATE” and press SET.

2. Configure Settings:

– 1. SAMPLING(TIME): Set the time for each sample (1 to 999 sec) and press SET.

– 2. SAMPLING(n): Set the number of trials (samples) to take at each point (1 to 9999) and press SET.

– 3. MEAS. POINT: Set the total number of points you will measure in the traverse (1 to 2000) and press SET.

– 4. DATA STORAGE?: Select YES or NO and press SET.

– 5. DUCT ENTRY NO.: Select the registered duct number for the measurement and press SET. If you select an empty entry, you can input the duct dimensions here.

– 6. SET TO START: Press SET to save settings and go to the measurement screen.

3. Perform Measurement:

– The “RDY” screen will appear. Position the probe at the first measurement point.

– Press START/HOLD to begin measuring at Point 1. The instrument will take the specified number of trials over the sampling time.

– After the measurement for Point 1 is complete, the screen will show “NEXT” and the instrument will be in STANDBY, ready for Point 2 (e.g., 001/015 means ready for point 2 of 15 total points).

– Move the probe to the next point and press START/HOLD to continue. Repeat for all points.

– To stop the entire measurement process before completion, press SET.

4. View Results:

– After completing the measurement for the final point (or pressing SET), the results screen will appear, showing the MAX, AVG, and MIN flow rates for the entire traverse.

– Press the ▲/▼ keys to see results for Air Temperature, Humidity, and Air Velocity.

To recall and view data stored in the memory of your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, follow these steps:

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the navigation keys to select “5. DATA OUTPUT” and press SET.

3. Select “1. DISPLAY” and press SET.

4. The “PAGE SET” screen will appear. Use the ▲/▼ keys to scroll through the stored data pages. Each page shows details like the measurement mode, date, time, and number of trials.

5. When you find the page you want to view, press SET.

6. The recalled data for that page will be displayed in a list format, showing the data number and measured values (e.g., Air Velocity, Air Temperature, Humidity).

7. Use the ▲/▼ keys to scroll through the list of data points.

8. If you measured in a Flow Rate mode, you can press the MODE key to toggle the display between Flow Rate and Air Velocity.

Calculating Recalled Data:

– On the recalled data screen, you can calculate statistics for a specific range.

– Press SET. A cursor will appear on “START”. Use the ▲/▼ keys to select the starting data number and press SET.

– The cursor moves to “END”. Select the ending data number and press SET.

– Press START/HOLD to calculate and display the MAX, AVG, and MIN values for the selected range.

To print from your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21, you need an optional printer (e.g., Seiko DPU-S245) and a printer cable.

Preparation:

1. Connect the printer cable to the Serial Communication terminal on the side of the instrument and to the printer.

2. Ensure the baud rate and data transmission settings on both the instrument and the printer match. The factory default for the instrument is typically 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit. You can change the baud rate in the UTILITY menu.

3. Turn ON the CLIMOMASTER first, then turn ON the printer. Make sure the CLIMOMASTER is in NORMAL Mode.

Printing in NORMAL Mode:

1. On the NORMAL Mode screen, press START/HOLD to freeze the display.

2. Press the MODE key to print out the data shown on the screen.

Printing from CALCULATION and FLOW RATE Modes:

1. After a measurement is complete and the results (MAX, AVG, MIN) are displayed, press the MODE key to print the results.

Printing Stored Data (Single Page):

1. Go to MENU -> DATA OUTPUT -> PRINTER(SINGLE).

2. Select the page you wish to print and press SET.

3. On the data display screen, press START/HOLD to open the PRINT OUTPUT menu.

4. Choose to print the RESULT (calculated stats), DATA (the raw data list), or ALL (both), and press SET.

You can download stored data to a PC using the supplied USB cable and communication software (like Hyper Terminal for Windows).

Connecting to PC:

1. Connect the PC to the CLIMOMASTER using the USB cable.

2. Turn ON the CLIMOMASTER and ensure it is displaying NORMAL Mode.

Using Communication Commands:

Once connected, you can send commands from your PC’s terminal software to the instrument to retrieve data. Here are some basic commands (all inputs need to be capital letters):

– Output On-Time Data (Live Data):

– Command: D**** (where **** is the number of data points, e.g., D0004 for 4 seconds of data).

– The instrument will reply with “AD” and then stream the data.

– Output Measuring Conditions:

– Command: S

– The instrument will reply with “AS” and information like the measuring parameter, time constant, and duct size.

– Output Stored Data:

– Command: T**** (where **** is the desired page number, e.g., T0001).

– The instrument will reply with “AT” followed by the data from that page.

– Output Measuring Condition of Stored Data:

– Command: M**** (where **** is the desired page number).

– The instrument will reply with “AM” followed by the conditions for that measurement.

– Cancel Command:

– Command: N

You can change the units for velocity, temperature, flow rate, and pressure, as well as the communication baud rate, in the UTILITY menu.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the navigation keys to select “7. UTILITY” and press SET.

3. Select “2. UNIT SELECT” and press SET.

4. A list of parameters will be displayed:

– 1. VELOCITY (m/s or FPM)

– 2. TEMPERATURE (°C or °F)

– 3. FLOW RATE (m³/h, m³/min, ft³/h, or ft³/min)

– 4. PRESSURE (kPa or Pa)

– 5. BAUD RATE (4800, 9600, 19200, or 38400)

5. Use the ▲/▼ keys to highlight the item you want to change and press SET.

6. Use the ▲/▼ keys again to select your desired unit or value and press SET.

7. Repeat for any other units you wish to change.

8. When you are finished, select “6. SAVE INFO” and press SET to save the changes and return to the Main Menu.

The KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 provides options to delete a specific range of data pages or all stored data.

To Delete a Specific Range of Data:

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the navigation keys to select “6. DATA CLEAR” and press SET.

3. Select “1. CLEAR” and press SET.

4. Use the ▲/▼ keys to select the starting page number for deletion (START:) and press SET.

5. Use the ▲/▼ keys to select the ending page number (END:) and press SET.

6. Use the ▲/▼ keys to change SET: to YES and press SET. The selected pages will be deleted, and the remaining pages will shift up.

To Delete All Data:

1. In the “DATA CLEAR” menu, use the ▲/▼ keys to select “2. ALL CLEAR” and press SET.

2. A confirmation prompt will appear. Use the ▲/▼ keys to select YES and press SET.

3. All stored data will be deleted, and the remaining memory will be reset to 20000.

If the LCD display is too dark or too light, you can adjust the contrast.

1. Open the battery cover on the back of the instrument.

2. Locate the contrast adjusting dial at the bottom of the unit, inside the battery compartment.

3. Use a small precision screwdriver (-) to turn the dial.

– Turn the dial clockwise to darken the LCD.

– Turn the dial counterclockwise to lighten the LCD.

Regular cleaning of the probe sensor is important to maintain measurement accuracy. Dust or particles on the sensor can alter heat diffusion and lead to imprecise readings.

Procedure:

1. Clean the sensor by soaking it in water in an ultrasonic cleaner for 10 to 20 seconds. Do not soak it for longer, as this increases the risk of damaging the coating.

2. Use only water for cleaning the probe.

CAUTION:

– Ensure the instrument’s power is turned OFF before cleaning.

– Make sure the sensor is completely dry before turning the power back ON.

– NEVER use alcohol or any other organic fluid, as this will cause permanent damage to the sensor.

– After cleaning, do not place the sensor in an upward position until it is completely dry, as residual water could drip down and damage the sensor.

If your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 will not turn on, check the following:

– Incorrect Battery Polarity: The batteries may be inserted incorrectly. Turn off the power, remove the batteries, and re-insert them correctly according to the polarity diagram in the compartment.

If the instrument turns on but the display is not visible or is too faint/dark:

There are a couple of reasons why your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21 might display an error or incorrect speed reading:

– If [**.*] is displayed, it indicates the measurement is outside the instrument’s specified measuring range. Ensure you are using the instrument within the range stated in the specifications.

– If the instrument is not reading the correct air speed, the probe might not be facing directly into the wind. For directional probes, make sure the wind direction indicator on the probe is facing into the airflow.

Here are possible causes and solutions for temperature and response time issues with your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6543-21:

– Higher temperature with no wind: The instrument cannot measure the correct temperature in a no-wind condition (less than 0.1 m/s) due to heat generated by the velocity sensor. Gently wave the probe to create a slight airflow for an accurate reading.

– The response time is slow: The time constant (TC) may be set to a high value (like TC5 or TC10), which averages readings over a longer period. For a faster response, set the time constant to TC1.
