To prevent damage to your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6541-21 and ensure accurate measurements, please follow these cautions:

Always unplug the instrument from the electrical outlet when it is not in use to avoid electrical shock, fire, or circuit damage.

Do not use the instrument in a water vapor atmosphere. Condensed steam on the sensor will cause inaccurate measurements and may damage the sensor.

This instrument is designed for use in a clean air stream without dust or foreign materials, which can damage the sensor and impede accuracy.

Do not apply force to the sensor. If the sensor is deformed, its accuracy may be affected.

When measuring, ensure the direction mark on uni-directional probes is facing into the airflow to prevent inaccurate measurements.

Do not use or leave the instrument in high temperature, high humidity, or dusty environments, or under direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

Do not subject the instrument or probe to strong impacts like dropping or placing heavy objects on it.

Never disassemble, modify, or repair the product.

Do not pick up or carry the instrument by the probe cable, as this may cause malfunction or breakage.

Remove batteries for long-term storage. Do not leave exhausted batteries in the compartment. Insert batteries with the correct polarity to prevent leakage.

Do not wipe the instrument with volatile solvents like thinner or benzene. Use a soft dry cloth, or a cloth soaked in neutral detergent for persistent stains.

Discharge any built-up static electricity from your body before touching the instrument.

Regularly check the probe head for contamination. To clean dust, use a blow brush or rinse with water and air-dry completely. Always turn the power off before cleaning and never dry the probe with heat.

Do not move the main unit and probe from a cold to a warm place quickly to avoid condensation, which can cause inaccurate measurements and rusting.

Do not touch the LCD screen with sharp objects or excessive pressure.

When storing, put the instrument in its carrying case in a place with an ambient temperature of -10 to 50°C and no condensation.

Do not dispose of the instrument as household waste. Follow local or national legislation for disposal of the instrument and batteries.

Follow these steps to install or replace the batteries in your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6541-21:

1. On the backside of the body, press down on the battery cover.

2. Slide the cover until it stops.

3. Lift the cover away from the body.

4. Insert six (6) AA size batteries according to the indicated polarity chart. The instrument requires all six batteries to be of the same type. Do not mix different types of batteries to avoid leakage or damage. Compatible battery types are:

– Manganese AA size batteries

– Alkaline AA size batteries

– Ni-Cd AA size batteries

– Ni-MH AA size batteries

*Note: Batteries cannot be recharged by the AC adapter.

Connecting the Probe and Probe Cable:

1. Align the connector of the probe or probe cable with the probe terminal on the body of the instrument. When connecting the probe directly, make sure the probe number faces the front side of the main unit.

2. Line up the connector and terminal and gently push until it clicks. Do not force the connector or rotate it once connected, as this may cause serious damage.

Disconnecting the Probe/Probe Cable:

1. Lightly lift the locking ring of the probe/probe cable connector.

2. While holding the lock ring up, pull the probe/probe cable out vertically. Do not rotate the connector while it is connected to the main body.

The power switch is located on the side of the instrument. Push it to the “|” position for Power ON and the “O” position for Power OFF.

Power-On Sequence:

When you turn the power on with the probe properly connected, a test screen with the Kanomax logo, model, and firmware version will appear for a few seconds before switching to the Normal Mode screen.

“NO PROBE!” Warning: If the probe is not connected properly, this warning will be displayed. Turn the power off and check the probe connection.

Annual Calibration Reminder: A year after the last calibration, a notice to perform the annual calibration will be displayed. The screen will switch to normal measurement mode after 10 seconds or after any key is pressed.

Battery Level Indicator:

The battery icon on the screen shows the remaining battery level. The consumption rate depends on the measured air velocity. When the batteries need to be replaced, the indicator will start blinking. If a high velocity is measured while the indicator is blinking, the screen may freeze.

When the “locked status” icon (a battery with an X) is displayed, all functions are locked, the current measurement is cancelled, and data will not be saved. To release the lock, turn off the power and replace the batteries.

For accurate results with your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6541-21, please observe the following precautions:

Air Velocity:

For directional probes (MODEL 6531/6541/6561), ensure the direction mark is facing into the airflow. If unsure of the direction, slowly rotate the probe to find the maximum velocity reading.

Ensure both the air velocity sensor and temperature compensation sensor are evenly exposed to the airflow under the same temperature conditions.

In environments with rapid air temperature changes, allow the reading to stabilize for at least 20 seconds before starting the measurement to let the probe acclimate.

Air Temperature:

The response time is faster with higher wind speeds. Wait for the reading to become stable before measuring. The normal response time is about 30 seconds at 1 m/s air velocity (90% response).

When no airflow is present, the reading may be higher than the actual temperature due to heat from the air velocity sensor. It is recommended to slowly wave the probe (approx. 0.1m/s) to get an accurate reading.

The touch panel provides access to all functions of the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6541-21.

MENU Key: Enters the Main Menu to select a function. Pressing MENU also cancels the current measurement or setting and returns to the Main Menu.

START/HOLD Key: Starts and stops calculations and/or measurements. It also functions as a hold key during measurements to freeze the current reading.

Up/Down Arrow (Navigation) Keys:

1. In Normal Mode, these keys select the time constant (1, 5, or 10 sec).

– TC1: Instantaneous value every 1 second.

– TC5: Moving average for 5 seconds.

– TC10: Moving average for 10 seconds.

2. In the Main Menu, these keys scroll through the menu options.

MODE Key: Selects the measurement mode/parameter being displayed. It cycles through options like Air Velocity, Air Temperature, Air Flow, etc.

SET Key: Executes the selected item or confirms a setting.

Before measuring volumetric flow rate, you must enter the duct shape and size settings. You can register up to 25 different duct types.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow keys to select “2. DUCT TYPE” and press SET.

To Set Duct ENTRY No.:

Use the arrow keys to select “1. ENTRY No.” and press SET. Choose a memory address from 1 to 25 and press SET.

To Set Duct SHAPE (RECTANGLE/CIRCLE):

Use the arrow keys to select “2. SHAPE” and press SET. Select “RECTANGLE” or “CIRCLE” and press SET.

To Set Duct Size:

For a Rectangular Duct:

– Select “3. WIDTH”, press SET, enter the width using the arrow keys, and press SET.

– Select “4. HEIGHT”, press SET, enter the height using the arrow keys, and press SET.

For a Circular Duct:

– Select “3. DIAMETER”, press SET, enter the diameter using the arrow keys, and press SET.

The maximum dimension is 9999mm or 999.9 inch.

To Set Units (mm/inch):

Select “5. UNIT(mm/inch)” (or “4. UNIT” for a circular duct) and press SET. Use the arrow keys to select mm or inch and press SET.

To Save the Setting:

Use the arrow keys to select “6. SAVE INFO” and press SET. This will complete the Duct Shape/Size Input and return you to the Main Menu.

NORMAL MODE is the default measurement mode where the display is updated every second. Data cannot be saved in this mode.

Selecting Measuring Parameters:

While in Normal Mode, press the MODE key to change the primary measured item. The sequence typically cycles through Pressure (if available), Flow Rate, and Air Velocity.

Flow Rate Measurement Screen: The selected duct type will be displayed at the lower left of the screen. To select a different registered duct type, press and hold SET while using the up/down arrow keys.

Holding the Reading:

Press the START/HOLD key to freeze the current reading on the display. The “HOLD” indicator will appear. Press START/HOLD again to release and resume live measurement.

Holding the Maximum Value:

Press and hold the START/HOLD key. The “HOLD” indicator will appear, and the display will show the maximum value of each parameter measured since the key was pressed. When you release the key, the reading will be frozen. Press START/HOLD again to release.

Setting the Time Constant (TC):

In Normal Mode, press the up or down arrow keys to change the Time Constant between TC1 (1 sec), TC5 (5 sec moving average), and TC10 (10 sec moving average). A longer time constant provides more stable readings.

CALCULATION Mode automatically calculates the maximum, minimum, and mean of the measured data over a set period.

Setup:

1. Press MENU, select “3. CALCULATION”, and press SET.

2. CALCULATION Mode: Select “1. MODE” and choose either AVERAGE (displays the average for the set sampling time) or INSTANT (takes a single measurement at the end of the sampling time). Press SET.

3. SAMPLING TIME: Select “2. SAMPLING (TIME)”, and set the duration of each trial (1 to 999 sec). Press SET.

4. No. TRIAL (N): Select “3. SAMPLING(n)”, and set the number of trials to be performed (1 to 9999 times). Press SET.

5. DATA STORAGE: Select “4. DATA STORAGE ?”, and choose YES or NO to determine if the results will be saved. Press SET.

6. SET TO START: Select “5. SET TO START” and press SET to save the settings and go to the ready screen.

Measurement:

1. On the “READY” screen, use the MODE key to select the parameter you want to measure (e.g., Air Velocity).

2. Press START/HOLD to begin the measurement. The screen will show “SMP.” (sampling) and the trial number count.

3. Press START/HOLD again to stop. If you selected YES for data storage, the data will be stored.

4. After all trials are finished, the “RESULT” screen will display the MAX, AVG, and MIN values. Use the arrow keys to view results for other parameters.

This mode is used for performing a duct traverse measurement. It calculates the average, maximum, and minimum flow rates from all measured points.

Setup:

1. Press MENU, select “4. FLOW RATE”, and press SET.

2. Select “1. SINGLE FLOW RATE” and press SET.

3. SAMPLING TIME: Set the interval time between each sampling (1 to 999 sec).

4. No. TRIAL (N): Set the number of samples to be taken at each measurement point (1 to 9999 times).

5. MEAS. POINT: Set the total number of measuring points in your traverse (1 to 2000 points).

6. DATA STORAGE: Choose YES or NO to save the results.

7. DUCT ENTRY NO.: Select the registered duct number you want to use for this measurement. If you select an empty entry, you will be taken to the duct setup screen.

8. SET TO START: Select to save settings and go to the ready screen.

Measurement:

1. On the “Ready” screen (showing RDY and Point 1), position the probe at the first measurement point.

2. Press START/HOLD to start measuring at Point 1. The screen will show “SMP.” and the trial count.

3. After the measurement for Point 1 is complete, the screen will show “NEXT 001/xxx” (e.g. 001/015), indicating it is ready for Point 2. Move the probe to the next position.

4. Repeat step 2 for all subsequent points. You can press SET to complete the measurement early if needed.

5. After all points are measured, the “RESULT” screen will appear, showing the MAX, AVG, and MIN flow rates for the entire traverse. Use the arrow keys to view results for Air Temperature, Humidity, and Air Velocity.

You can recall and view data stored from CALCULATION or FLOW RATE modes.

1. Press MENU, select “5. DATA OUTPUT”, and press SET.

2. Select “1. DISPLAY” and press SET.

3. The “PAGE SET” screen will appear. Use the up/down arrow keys to select the page of data you wish to recall. Each page contains information about the measurement, such as mode, date, time, and number of trials.

4. Press SET to view the selected page’s data.

5. A list of the recorded data points will be displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to scroll through the data.

6. If you measured Flow Rate, you can press the MODE key to switch the display between Flow Rate and Air Velocity.

Calculating Results from Stored Data:

While viewing the recalled data list, you can calculate the MAX/AVG/MIN for a specific range:

1. Press SET. A cursor will appear on “START”. Use the arrow keys to select the first data point for your calculation and press SET.

2. The cursor will move to “END”. Use the arrow keys to select the last data point and press SET.

3. Press START/HOLD. The instrument will calculate and display the results for the selected range.

You can print live readings, calculated results, or stored data using an optional printer (e.g., Seiko DPU-S245).

Preparation:

1. Ensure the BAUD rate on the instrument and printer match. The factory setting for the instrument is:

2. Connect the printer cable to the Serial Communication terminal on the side of the instrument.

3. Turn ON the CLIMOMASTER first, then turn on the printer.

Print Out in NORMAL Mode:

1. In NORMAL mode, press START/HOLD to freeze the display.

2. Press MODE to print out the data on the screen.

Print Out in CALCULATION Mode and FLOW RATE Mode:

After the measurement and calculation have been completed and the result is displayed, press MODE to print out the result.

Print Out Stored Data (Single or Plural Pages):

1. Press MENU, select “5. DATA OUTPUT”, and press SET.

2. To print a single page, select “2. PRINTER(SINGLE)”. To print multiple pages, select “3. PRINTER(MULTI)”. Press SET.

3. Follow the on-screen prompts to select the page(s) and the content to print (RESULT, DATA, or ALL).

4. Press START/HOLD or SET as instructed on the screen to begin printing.

You can download stored data to a PC using the supplied USB cable and communication software like Hyper Terminal.

Connecting to a PC:

1. Connect the PC to the Climomaster using the USB cable.

2. Turn ON the CLIMOMASTER.

3. Make sure the CLIMOMASTER is displaying NORMAL Mode.

Communication Commands:

Once connected, you can send text commands from your PC’s terminal software to the instrument to retrieve data. All letter inputs must be capital letters.

All general settings can be changed from the UTILITY menu.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow keys to select “7. UTILITY” and press SET.

To change the Date and Time:

1. In the UTILITY menu, select “1. TIME ADJUST” and press SET.

2. Select “1. STYLE” to choose the date format (JP: YYYY/MM/DD, US: MM/DD/YYYY, EU: DD/MM/YYYY).

3. Select “2. DATE” or “3. TIME” to change the values using the arrow keys.

4. Select “4. SAVE INFO” and press SET to save changes.

To change Units and Baud Rate:

1. In the UTILITY menu, select “2. UNIT SELECT” and press SET.

2. Use the arrow keys to highlight the item you want to change (VELOCITY, TEMPERATURE, FLOW RATE, BAUD RATE) and press SET.

3. Use the arrow keys to select the desired unit or value and press SET.

4. Select “6. SAVE INFO” and press SET to save all changes.

You can delete a specific range of data or all stored data.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow keys to select “6. DATA CLEAR” and press SET.

To Delete a Range of Data:

1. Select “1. CLEAR” and press SET.

2. Use the arrow keys to select the starting page number to delete and press SET.

3. Use the arrow keys to select the ending page number to delete and press SET.

4. The cursor will move to SET. Use the arrow keys to select YES and press SET. The selected pages will be deleted, and the remaining data will shift up.

To Delete All Data:

1. Select “2. ALL CLEAR” and press SET.

2. Use the arrow keys to select YES and press SET.

3. All data will be deleted, and the remaining memory will be reset to 20000.

Regular cleaning of the probe is encouraged to maintain measurement accuracy. Dust or particles on the velocity sensor can alter heat diffusion and lead to imprecise readings.

Procedure:

Clean the sensor by soaking it in water in an ultrasonic cleaner for 10 to 20 seconds. Do not soak it for too long, as there is an increased risk of damaging the coating. Please use only water for cleaning the probe.

! CAUTION !

When cleaning, make sure that the power is turned OFF.

Make sure that the sensor is dry before turning it ON.

NEVER USE alcohol or any other organic fluid. Alcohol will cause permanent damage to the humidity sensor.

After cleaning, allow the probe to air dry. DO NOT place the sensor in an upward position until it is completely dry, as residual water could damage the sensor.

If the instrument does not turn on, check the following:

Possible Cause: Battery is inserted in wrong polarity.

Solution: Turn off the power and insert the battery correctly, observing the polarity markings inside the battery compartment.

If the LCD display is not visible, it is likely a contrast issue.

Possible Cause: Display contrast is not set up properly.

Solution: Adjust the contrast dial. The adjustment dial is located inside the battery cover at the bottom of the unit. Use a precision screwdriver (-) to turn the dial clockwise to darken the LCD and counterclockwise to lighten it.

A flashing battery level indicator means the battery power is low.

Possible Cause: The battery is low.

Solution: Turn off the instrument and replace all six batteries with new ones of the same type.

This message indicates a problem with the probe connection.

Possible Cause: The probe is not connected.

Solution: Turn off the instrument and connect a probe securely.

These displays indicate an issue with the measurement reading or probe connection.

If “[**.*]” is displayed as the measured value:

Possible Cause: The measurement is outside the measuring range.

Solution: The instrument must be used in the range stated in the specifications.

If “[—-]” is displayed as the air velocity measurement:

Possible Cause 1: The probe or the probe cable is not connected properly.

Solution 1: Check the connection between the probe and the probe cable.

Possible Cause 2: The probe or the probe cable may be damaged.

Solution 2: Contact your local Kanomax representative for repair or replacement.

If the instrument is not reading the correct air speed, check the probe’s orientation.

Possible Cause: The probe might not be facing into the wind.

Solution: For directional probes, make sure the wind direction indicator is facing into the wind.

The CLIMOMASTER cannot measure the correct temperature with no wind (less than 0.1m/s of wind).

Possible Cause: The air velocity sensor generates heat, which can affect the temperature sensor in still air.

Solution: To get an accurate temperature reading in a no-wind environment, gently wave the probe to create a small amount of airflow (approx. 0.1 m/s) over the sensor.

If the printer does not operate, check the connections and settings.

Possible Cause 1: The printer is not connected properly.

Solution 1: Confirm the printer connection is secure.

Possible Cause 2: The Baud Rate might not be set properly.

Solution 2: Check that both the instrument and printer are set to the same Baud Rate.

Possible Cause 3: An incompatible printer or cable is being used.

Solution 3: Make sure to use the optional printer (Model DPU-S245) and printer cable (Model 6000-31).

Possible Cause 4: The connection procedure was not followed.

Solution 4: Connect the printer to the printer port, then turn on the instrument and printer in the correct sequence.

If you are having trouble loading data to your PC, verify the connection and communication settings.

Possible Cause 1: The USB connection is not confirmed.
