The following optional accessories are available for the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-21:

Follow these steps to install or replace the batteries:

1. Turn the instrument over to view the backside of the body.

2. Press down on the battery cover.

3. Slide the cover until it stops.

4. Lift the cover away from the body.

5. Insert six (6) AA size batteries according to the indicated polarity chart. Ensure all batteries are of the same type and do not mix different types.

6. Put the cover back on by reversing the above procedure.

The KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-21 requires six (6) AA size batteries. The following types can be used:

• Manganese AA size batteries

• Alkaline AA size batteries

• Ni-Cd AA size batteries

• Ni-MH AA size batteries

Note: Batteries CANNOT be recharged by the AC adapter.

To connect the probe to the main body, ensure the power is turned OFF and follow these steps:

1. Align the connector of the probe or probe cable with the probe terminal on the body. When connecting the probe, make sure the probe number faces towards the front side of the main unit.

2. Line up the connector and the terminal and gently push until it clicks.

Important: DO NOT FORCE the connector into the main body and DO NOT ROTATE the probe/probe cable once it is connected, as doing so may cause serious damage.

To disconnect the probe, ensure the power is turned OFF and follow these steps:

1. Lightly lift the locking ring of the probe/probe cable connector.

2. Pull the probe/probe cable out vertically while holding the lock ring up.

Important: DO NOT rotate the connector when it is connected to the main body, as this may cause serious damage.

The power switch is located on the side of the instrument.

• To Power ON: Move the switch to the “|” position.

• To Power OFF: Move the switch to the “O” position.

When you turn the power on after connecting the probe, a test screen will be displayed for a few seconds, and then it will switch to the Normal Mode screen. If the probe is not connected properly, a “NO PROBE!” warning will be displayed. If this occurs, turn the power off and check the probe connection.

The battery level indicator on the display shows the remaining battery level. The indicator changes as the battery drains.

• Full to partial bars: Indicates the current battery level.

• Blinking indicator: The batteries are low and must be replaced (or recharged).

• Locked Status (icon [X]): When this is displayed, all functions are locked. The current measurement will be cancelled and data will not be saved. To release the lock, turn off the power and replace the batteries.

• The probe has its own directivity characteristics. Make sure the direction mark is facing into the airflow. If you are unsure of the airflow direction, slowly rotate the probe and select the point where you get the maximum velocity reading.

• Both the air velocity sensor and temperature compensation sensor must be evenly exposed to the airflow under the same temperature conditions for accurate measurements.

• In an environment with rapid air temperature changes, measure for at least 20 seconds and wait for the reading to stabilize before starting the measurement. The data will not be accurate until the probe has had time to acclimate.

Before measuring pressure, perform a zero adjustment with both pressure ports (+) and (-) open.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow keys to select “8. PRESSURE ZERO” and press SET.

3. Use the arrow keys to select “1. ZERO ADJUST” and press SET.

4. The screen will show “YES”. Press SET to display 0.00 kPa.

5. Use the arrow keys to select “2. SAVE INFO”.

6. Press SET. This completes the zero adjustment and returns you to the Main Menu.

Note: The zero adjustment range is – 0.5 to 0.5 kPa. If the reading is out of this range, an error message will be displayed.

Before measuring volumetric flow rate, you must enter the duct shape and size settings. You can register up to 25 different duct types.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow keys to select “2. DUCT TYPE” and press SET.

3. To Set Duct ENTRY No.: Select “1. ENTRY No.” and press SET. Choose a memory address from 1 to 25 and press SET.

4. To Set Duct SHAPE: Select “2. SHAPE” and press SET. Choose “RECTANGLE” or “CIRCLE” and press SET.

5. To Set Duct Size:

• For a Rectangular Duct: Select “3. WIDTH” and press SET. Enter the width and press SET. Then select “4. HEIGHT” and press SET. Enter the height and press SET.

• For a Circular Duct: Select “3. DIAMETER” and press SET. Enter the diameter and press SET.

6. To Set Units (mm/inch): Select “5. UNIT(mm/inch)” (or “4.” for a circular duct) and press SET. Select “mm” or “inch” and press SET.

7. To Save the Setting: Select “6. SAVE INFO” and press SET. This will complete the input and return you to the Main Menu.

In Normal Mode, you can change the measured item by pressing the MODE key. The item changes in the following sequence:

Pressure -> Air Flow Rate -> Air Velocity

• The Air Velocity Measurement Screen is the default screen.

• The Pressure Measurement Screen is available on models with a built-in pressure sensor.

• The Flow Rate Measurement Screen displays the volumetric flow rate. The selected duct type is shown at the lower left of the screen. To select a different registered duct type, press and hold SET while using the arrow keys.

You can use the START/HOLD key to freeze readings while in Normal Mode.

• To Hold the Current Reading: While measuring, press the START/HOLD key once. The “HOLD” indicator will appear, and the reading will be frozen. Press the key again to release the hold and resume live measurement.

• To Hold the Maximum Value: While measuring, press and hold the START/HOLD key. The “HOLD” indicator will appear, and the display will hold the maximum value of each parameter measured since the key was pressed. When you release the key, the reading will be frozen. Press the key again to release and resume live measurement.

The Time Constant (TC) determines the time span of the moving average, which helps stabilize readings. This function is available in Normal Mode. To change the TC, press the UP or DOWN arrow keys.

• TC1: Displays the instantaneous value, updated every 1 second.

• TC5: Displays the moving average over the past 5 seconds, updated every second.

• TC10: Displays the moving average over the past 10 seconds, updated every second.

By default, the Time Constant is only effective for Air Velocity and Air Flow measurements. To apply it to Air Temperature, Humidity, and Pressure, you must change the setting.

CALCULATION Mode automatically calculates the maximum, minimum, and mean of the measured data over a set period.

1. Press MENU and select “3. CALCULATION”, then press SET.

2. Set the parameters on the CALCULATE screen:

• 1. MODE: Select AVERAGE (measures continuously and averages over the sampling time) or INSTANT (takes a single measurement at the end of the sampling time).

• 2. SAMPLING TIME: Set the duration for each trial (1 to 999 sec).

• 3. No. TRIAL (N): Set the number of samples to take (1 to 9999 times).

• 4. DATA STORAGE: Select YES to save the results, or NO to discard them after viewing.

3. Select “5. SET TO START” and press SET. The instrument will be in the state.

4. Use the MODE key to select the parameter you want to measure (Air Velocity, Flow Rate, Pressure, etc.).

5. Press START/HOLD to begin the measurement.

6. Press START/HOLD again to stop. If you selected YES for data storage, the data will be stored.

7. After all trials are finished, the calculated MAX, AVG, and MIN results will be displayed.

8. Use the arrow keys to view results for other parameters like Air Temperature, Humidity, Dew Point Temperature (DT), and Discomfort Index (DI).

This mode is used for performing a duct traverse measurement.

1. Press MENU, select “4. FLOW RATE”, and press SET.

2. Select “1. SINGLE FLOW RATE” and press SET.

3. Set the measurement parameters:

• 1. SAMPLING TIME: Set the interval time for each sampling (1 to 999 sec).

• 2. No. TRIAL (N): Set the number of samples to take at each point (1 to 9999 times).

• 3. MEAS. POINT: Set the total number of measuring points in the traverse (1 to 2000).

• 4. DATA STORAGE: Select YES or NO.

• 5. DUCT ENTRY NO.: Select the registered duct number you will be measuring.

4. Select “6. SET TO START” and press SET.

5. The screen will be displayed, showing the current number of points (e.g., P 1). Press START/HOLD to begin measuring the first point.

6. After the measurement for Point 1 is complete, the instrument goes into STANDBY (e.g., NEXT 001/015), ready for Point 2. Move the probe to the next position and press START/HOLD to measure.

7. Repeat for all measurement points. You can press SET at any time to complete the measurement with the points taken so far.

8. Once all points are measured, the screen will show the MAX, AVG, and MIN flow rates. Use the arrow keys to see results for Air Temperature, Humidity, and Air Velocity.

Follow these steps to recall previously stored measurement data:

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow keys to select “5. DATA OUTPUT” and press SET.

3. Select “1. DISPLAY” and press SET.

4. The PAGE SET screen will appear. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the stored data pages. Each page shows information like the mode, date, time, and number of trials.

5. Once you find the page you want to view, press SET.

6. The recalled data for that page will be displayed. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the data points.

7. If the data was from a FLOW RATE measurement, you can press the MODE key to switch between viewing Flow Rate and Air Velocity results.

To print data, you need an optional printer (e.g., Seiko DPU-S245) and printer cable.

1. Preparation:

• Ensure the BAUD rate is the same on both the CLIMOMASTER and the printer. The factory setting is typically 19200.

• Connect the printer cable to the Serial Communication terminal on the side of the instrument.

• Turn ON the CLIMOMASTER first, then turn on the printer.

• Make sure the CLIMOMASTER is in the desired mode.

2. Print Out in NORMAL Mode:

• In NORMAL Mode, press START/HOLD to freeze the display.

• Press MODE to print the data on the screen.

3. Print Out in CALCULATION Mode and FLOW RATE Mode:

• After the measurement and calculation are complete and the results are displayed, press MODE to print out the result.

4. Print Out Stored Data:

• Go to MENU > DATA OUTPUT > PRINTER(SINGLE) or PRINTER(MULTI).

• Select the page(s) you want to print.

• Press START/HOLD to select the content to print (RESULT, DATA, or ALL) and press SET to start printing.

You can download data to a PC using a USB cable and communication software. The following commands can be used:

*Note: In the commands, “****” represents a 4-digit number.

The analog output feature (available on specific models) provides a DC 0 to 1V signal. To set it up:

1. Press MENU and select “7. UTILITY”, then press SET.

2. Select “3. ANALOG OUTPUT” and press SET.

3. To Select Data Type: Choose “1. OUTPUT SELECT” and press SET. Use the arrow keys to select VEL. (Velocity), PRS. (Pressure), HUM. (Humidity), or TMP. (Temperature), then press SET.

4. To Set the Output Range: Select “2.” (the parameter you chose) and press SET. Use the arrow keys to select the desired output range from the table below and press SET.

5. To Save: Select “3. SAVE INFO” and press SET.

Analog Output Ranges and Conversion Formulas:

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow keys to select “7. UTILITY” and press SET.

3. Select “2. UNIT SELECT” and press SET.

4. A list of parameters will be displayed (VELOCITY, TEMPERATURE, FLOW RATE, PRESSURE, BAUD RATE). Use the arrow keys to highlight the parameter you want to change and press SET.

5. Use the arrow keys to select your desired unit (e.g., m/s or FPM for velocity; °C or °F for temperature) or baud rate (4800, 9600, 19200, or 38400) and press SET.

6. Repeat for any other units you wish to change.

7. When finished, select “6. SAVE INFO” and press SET to save the changes and return to the Main Menu.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Select “7. UTILITY” and press SET.

3. Select “5. BACKLIGHT ON/OFF” and press SET.

4. Select “1. BACKLIGHT” and use the arrow keys to toggle between BACKLIGHT ON and BACKLIGHT OFF. Press SET.

• BACKLIGHT OFF: The backlight is always off.

• BACKLIGHT ON: The backlight will turn on when any button is pressed, according to the lit-up time setting.

5. If you selected BACKLIGHT ON, you can set the lit-up time. Use the arrow keys to set the amount of time the backlight will stay on (e.g., FOR 1 min, FOR 2 min, or ALWAYS).

6. Select “SAVE INFO” and press SET to save the changes.

You can delete a specific range of data or all data.

To Delete a Specific Page or Range:

1. Press MENU and select “6. DATA CLEAR”, then press SET.

2. Select “1. CLEAR” and press SET.

3. Use the arrow keys to select the starting page number (START) and press SET.

4. Use the arrow keys to select the ending page number (END) and press SET.

5. Use the arrow keys to change SET from NO to YES and press SET.

6. The selected page(s) will be deleted, and the remaining data will shift up.

To Delete All Data:

1. Press MENU and select “6. DATA CLEAR”, then press SET.

2. Select “2. ALL CLEAR” and press SET.

3. Use the arrow keys to change the selection to YES and press SET.

4. All data will be deleted, and the remaining memory will be reset.

If the LCD display is too dark or too light, you can adjust the contrast. The contrast adjusting dial is located inside the battery compartment at the bottom of the unit.

1. Open the battery cover.

2. Use a precision flat-head screwdriver (-) (0.9 to 1.5mm) to turn the dial.

• Turn the dial clockwise to darken the LCD.

• Turn the dial counterclockwise to lighten the LCD.

Clean the probe regularly to maintain measurement accuracy. Dust or particles on the velocity sensor can alter heat diffusion and lead to imprecise readings.

Procedure:

Clean the sensor by soaking it in water in an ultrasonic cleaner for 10 to 20 seconds. Do not soak it for too long, as there is an increased risk of damaging the coating. Use only water for cleaning.

CAUTION:

• When cleaning, make sure the power is turned OFF.

• Make sure the sensor is completely dry before turning the power ON.

• DO NOT let the humidity sensor come into contact with water. If it gets wet, let it air dry in an environment with less than 40%RH for more than 24 hours.

• NEVER USE alcohol or any other organic fluid.

• DO NOT place the sensor in an upward position until it is completely dry, as residual water could cause damage.

The batteries may be inserted with the wrong polarity. Turn off the power, remove the batteries, and re-insert them correctly according to the polarity chart inside the battery compartment.

The display contrast may not be set up properly. Locate the contrast adjustment dial inside the battery compartment and adjust it with a small screwdriver until the display is visible.

A flashing battery indicator means the battery is low. Turn off the instrument and replace all six batteries with new ones.

This message indicates that the probe is not connected or not connected properly. Turn off the instrument and check the connection between the probe cable and the main body.

This indicates that the measurement is outside the instrument’s specified measuring range. The instrument must be used within the range stated in the specifications for a valid reading.

This display can mean one of two things:

• The probe or the probe cable is not connected properly. Check the connection between the probe and the cable, and the cable and the main body.

• The probe or the probe cable may be damaged. If the connection is secure, contact your local representative for repair or replacement.

The probe may not be facing directly into the wind. For directional probes, make sure the wind direction indicator on the probe is facing into the airflow for an accurate reading.

The CLIMOMASTER cannot measure the correct temperature with no wind (less than 0.1 m/s of wind). The heat generated by the air velocity sensor can affect the temperature reading in still air. To obtain an accurate temperature reading, slowly wave the probe to create an airflow of approximately 0.1 m/s.

The Time Constant (TC) setting may be too high. The TC determines the moving average period for readings. A higher TC (like TC10) will result in a more stable but slower-responding reading. Check the TC setting on the Normal Mode screen and adjust it if necessary.

This indicates that the duct information (shape and size) required to calculate the flow rate is not stored or selected. You must register the duct information in the settings before you can measure volumetric flow.

If the printer doesn’t operate, check the following:

• The printer may not be connected properly. Confirm the printer connection.

• The Baud Rate might not be set properly. Check that both the instrument and the printer are set to the same Baud Rate.

• Ensure you are using the recommended optional printer (Model DPU-S245) and printer cable (Model 6000-31).

• Confirm the connection procedure: connect the printer to the port, then turn on the instrument first, followed by the printer.

The display is not frozen. To print the current reading in Normal Mode, you must first press the START/HOLD key to hold the display, and then press the MODE key to print out.

If the PC doesn’t load data, check the following:

• Confirm the USB connection is secure.

• The Baud Rate might not be set properly. Check that both the instrument and the PC software settings match.

• Confirm you are using the correct communication command (e.g., in Hyper Terminal) to request the data.

Check the connection and confirm the polarity is correct. Also, the HOLD function might be active. Press the START/HOLD key to cancel the HOLD function and allow live data to be output.

If the output data is not correct, check the following:

• Confirm the setting for the analog output parameter and range are correct for your application.

• The load impedance might not be optimum. Set the load impedance of your data logger or receiving device to be larger than 5k Ω.
