When using the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-06, observe the following safety precautions:

Dangers:

Cautions:

Always unplug the instrument from an electrical outlet when not in use.

Use the instrument in a clean air stream without dust or foreign materials, which can damage the sensor and impede accuracy.

Do not apply force to the sensor, as deformation can affect its accuracy.

When measuring with uni-directional probes, ensure the direction mark is facing into the airflow for accurate results.

Do not use or leave the instrument in high temperature, high humidity, or dusty environments, or under direct sunlight for prolonged periods.

Do not subject the instrument or probe to strong impacts like dropping.

Never disassemble, modify, or repair the product.

Do not carry the instrument by the probe cable.

Remove batteries when storing for a long period. Insert batteries with the correct polarity to avoid leakage.

Do not wipe the instrument with volatile solvents like thinner or benzene. Use a soft dry cloth.

Regularly check the probe head for contamination and clean it carefully if needed.

Do not move the unit from a cold to a warm place quickly to avoid condensation.

Do not touch the LCD screen with sharp objects or excessive pressure.

The touch panel on the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-06 features several keys for operation:

MENU Key:

Enters the Main Menu to select a function such as NORMAL, DUCT TYPE, CALCULATION, FLOW RATE, DATA OUTPUT, DATA CLEAR, UTILITY, and PRESSURE ZERO.

Pressing the MENU key also cancels the current measurement or setting and returns to the Main Menu.

START/HOLD Key:

Starts and stops calculations and/or measurements.

Functions as a hold key to freeze the current reading on the display during measurements.

▲ ▼ Navigation Keys:

In Normal Mode, these keys select the time constant (1, 5, or 10 seconds).

In the Main Menu, these keys are used to scroll through the menu options.

MODE Key:

Selects the measurement mode displayed on the screen. It cycles through the available parameters like Air Velocity, Air Temperature, Humidity, Air Flow, and Pressure (depending on the model).

SET Key:

Executes the selected item or confirms a setting.

Follow these steps to install or replace the batteries in your KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-06:

1. On the backside of the body, press down on the battery cover.

2. Slide the cover until it stops.

3. Lift the cover away from the body.

4. Insert six (6) AA size batteries according to the indicated polarity chart inside the compartment. You must use six batteries of the same type. Do not mix different types of batteries.

5. Put the cover back on by reversing the removal procedure.

Manganese AA size batteries

Alkaline AA size batteries

Ni-Cd AA size batteries

Ni-MH AA size batteries

Note: Batteries CANNOT be recharged by the AC adapter.

Always ensure the power is turned OFF before connecting or disconnecting the probe or probe cable.

Connecting the Probe:

1. Align the connector of the probe or probe cable with the probe terminal on the main body. When connecting a probe directly, make sure the probe number faces the front side of the main unit.

2. Gently push the connector into the terminal until it clicks. Do not force the connector or rotate it once connected, as this may cause serious damage.

Disconnecting the Probe:

1. Lightly lift the locking ring on the probe/probe cable connector.

2. While holding the locking ring up, pull the connector straight out vertically.

Note: Do not rotate the connector while it is connected to the main body.

The power switch is located on the side of the instrument.

Turning Power ON/OFF:

Slide the switch to the “|” position to turn the power ON.

Slide the switch to the “O” position to turn the power OFF.

“NO PROBE!” Warning:

If the probe is not connected properly when you turn the power on, a “NO PROBE! CONNECT PROBE AND RESTART!” warning will be displayed. If you see this message, turn the power off and check the connection of the probe cable to both the probe and the main unit.

The battery level indicator is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. It shows the remaining battery level with a graphical icon.

As the battery level decreases, the bars inside the icon will disappear.

When the batteries need to be replaced or recharged, the indicator will start blinking.

If a locked status icon ([X]) is displayed, all instrument functions will be locked. The current measurement will be canceled and data will not be saved. To resolve this, turn off the power and replace the batteries.

To ensure accurate pressure measurements, a zero adjustment must be performed before measuring. During this procedure, leave both pressure ports (+) and (-) open.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “8. PRESSURE ZERO” and press SET.

3. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “1. ZERO ADJUST”. The current selection will be highlighted (e.g., YES).

4. Press SET. The screen will display “YES”.

5. Press SET again to confirm. The display will show 0.00 kPa.

6. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “2. SAVE INFO”.

7. Press SET to complete the zero adjustment. The instrument will return to the Main Menu.

Note: If you press MENU before saving, you will return to the Main Menu without completing the zero adjustment.

Before measuring volumetric flow rate, you must enter the duct shape and size. The instrument can store up to 25 different duct types.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “2. DUCT TYPE” and press SET.

Set Duct Entry Number:

3. With “1. ENTRY No.” selected, press SET. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to choose a memory address (1 to 25) and press SET.

Set Duct Shape:

4. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “2. SHAPE” and press SET. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “RECTANGLE” or “CIRCLE” and press SET.

Set Duct Size:

5. For a rectangular duct, select “3. WIDTH”, press SET, enter the width using the ▲ ▼ keys, and press SET. Then select “4. HEIGHT”, press SET, enter the height, and press SET.

6. For a circular duct, select “3. DIAMETER”, press SET, enter the diameter using the ▲ ▼ keys, and press SET.

Set Units:

7. Select “5. UNIT(mm/inch)” (or “4. UNIT” for circular ducts) and press SET. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to choose “mm” or “inch” and press SET.

Save the Setting:

8. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “6. SAVE INFO” and press SET. This will complete the input and return you to the Main Menu.

You can freeze the display in Normal Mode using the START/HOLD key.

To Hold the Current Reading:

While measuring, press the START/HOLD key once. The “HOLD” indicator will appear on the display, and the reading will be frozen.

Press the START/HOLD key again to release the hold and resume live measurement.

To Hold the Maximum Value:

While measuring, press and hold the START/HOLD key. The “HOLD” indicator will appear, and the display will show the maximum value recorded for each parameter since the key was pressed.

When you release the START/HOLD key, the maximum value reading will remain frozen on the display.

Press the START/HOLD key again to release the hold and resume live measurement.

CALCULATION Mode automatically calculates the maximum, minimum, and mean of the measured data over a set period.

Setting Up CALCULATION Mode:

1. Press MENU, select “3. CALCULATION”, and press SET.

2. Set CALCULATION Mode: Select “1. MODE”, press SET, choose AVERAGE (takes measurements every second and displays the average for the sampling time) or INSTANT (takes a single measurement at the end of the sampling time), and press SET.

3. Set SAMPLING TIME: Select “2. SAMPLING (TIME)”, press SET, enter the desired time (1 to 999 sec), and press SET.

4. Set No. TRIAL (N): Select “3. SAMPLING(n)”, press SET, enter the number of trials (1 to 9999 times), and press SET.

5. Set DATA STORAGE: Select “4. DATA STORAGE ?”, press SET, choose YES or NO, and press SET.

6. Start Measurement: Select “5. SET TO START” and press SET. The instrument will now be in the READY state.

Performing Measurement:

1. In the READY screen (RDY.), press MODE to change the applied parameters if needed (e.g., Air Velocity, Flow Rate).

2. Press START/HOLD to begin the measurement. The screen will show the sampling progress (SMP.).

3. Press START/HOLD to stop. If you selected YES for data storage, the data will be stored.

4. After all trials are finished, the calculated results (MAX, AVG, MIN) will be displayed. You can press the ▲ ▼ keys to view results for different parameters (e.g., Air Velocity, Air Temp, Humidity).

This mode is used for performing measurements of airflow in a duct, such as a duct traverse.

Setting Up SINGLE FLOW RATE Mode:

1. Press MENU, select “4. FLOW RATE”, and press SET.

2. Select “1. SINGLE FLOW RATE” and press SET.

3. Set SAMPLING TIME: Select item 1, press SET, enter the interval time (1 to 999 sec) for each sample, and press SET.

4. Set No. TRIAL (N): Select item 2, press SET, enter the number of trials per measurement point (1 to 9999), and press SET.

5. Set MEAS. POINT: Select item 3, press SET, enter the total number of measuring points in the traverse (1 to 2000), and press SET.

6. Set DATA STORAGE: Select item 4, press SET, choose YES or NO, and press SET.

7. Set DUCT ENTRY NO.: Select item 5, press SET, and choose the registered duct number you wish to use. If needed, you can input new duct dimensions here.

8. Start Measurement: Select “6. SET TO START” and press SET. The ready screen will be displayed.

Performing Measurement:

1. On the ready screen (RDY.), position the probe at the first measurement point.

2. Press START/HOLD to start measuring at that point. The screen will show the sampling progress (SMP.).

3. After the measurement for Point 1 is complete, the instrument will be in STANDBY (NEXT), ready to measure Point 2. Move the probe to the next point and press START/HOLD again.

4. Repeat for all measurement points. To stop the entire measurement process early, press SET.

5. After all points are measured, the final results (MAX, AVG, MIN flow rate) will be displayed. Press the ▲ ▼ keys to view results for other parameters like Air Temperature, Humidity, and Air Velocity.

Follow these steps to recall and view data stored in the instrument’s memory.

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “5. DATA OUTPUT” and press SET.

3. Select “1. DISPLAY” and press SET.

4. A list of stored data pages will appear. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select the page you would like to recall and press SET.

5. The recalled data of the selected page will be displayed. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to scroll through the data points.

6. If you measured Flow Rate, you can press MODE to switch the display between Flow Rate and Air Velocity.

Calculating from Stored Data:

While viewing recalled data, you can calculate the MAX, AVG, and MIN for a specific range of that data.

1. Press SET. A cursor will appear on “START”.

2. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select the first data number (START) for the calculation and press SET.

3. The cursor will move to “END”. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select the last data number (END) and press SET.

4. Press START/HOLD to calculate for the selected range. The results will be displayed.

To print measurement data, you need an optional printer (e.g., Seiko Instruments Model DPU-S245) and a printer cable.

Preparation:

1. Ensure the baud rate and data transmission settings match on both the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-06 and the printer. The factory default settings for the instrument are:

Data Bit Length: 8 bits

Parity: None

Stop Bit: 1

2. To change the baud rate on the instrument, go to MENU > UTILITY > UNIT SELECT > BAUD RATE.

Connecting and Printing:

1. Connect the printer cable to the Serial Communication terminal on the side of the instrument and to the printer.

2. Turn ON the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-06 first, then turn on the printer.

3. Make sure the instrument is in NORMAL Mode.

4. To print, first press START/HOLD to freeze the display. Then, press MODE to print out the data shown on the screen.

You can download stored data to a PC using the supplied USB cable and communication software (like Hyper Terminal for Windows).

Connecting to PC:

1. Connect the PC to the KANOMAX CLIMOMASTER 6531-06 using the USB cable.

2. Turn ON the instrument.

3. Make sure the instrument is displaying NORMAL Mode.

Communication Commands:

You can send commands from your PC’s terminal software to the instrument to retrieve data. All inputs need to be capital letters.

(Note: **** represents a 4-digit number, ↵ represents pressing Enter)

For example, to download 4 seconds of live data, type `D0004` and press Enter.

You can delete a specific range of data pages or all data at once.

To Delete a Specific Page/Range:

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Select “6. DATA CLEAR” and press SET.

3. Select “1. CLEAR” and press SET.

4. The START page number will be highlighted. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select the starting page for deletion and press SET.

5. The END page number will now be highlighted. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select the ending page for deletion and press SET.

6. The SET field will be highlighted. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select YES and press SET to delete the selected range.

To Delete All Data:

1. Press MENU to enter the Main Menu.

2. Select “6. DATA CLEAR” and press SET.

3. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select “2. ALL CLEAR” and press SET.

4. Use the ▲ ▼ keys to select YES to confirm.

5. All data will be deleted, and the remaining memory will be reset to 20000.

Regularly cleaning the probe sensor maintains measurement accuracy. Dust or particles can alter heat diffusion and lead to imprecise readings.

Procedure:

Clean the sensor by soaking it in water in an ultrasonic cleaner for 10 to 20 seconds. Do not soak it for too long to avoid damaging the coating. Please use only water for cleaning.

CAUTION:

When cleaning, make sure the power is turned OFF.

Make sure the sensor is completely dry before turning the instrument ON.

DO NOT let the humidity sensor (on applicable models) come into contact with water. If it gets wet, let it air dry in an environment with less than 40% RH for more than 24 hours.

NEVER USE alcohol or any other organic fluid, as it will cause permanent damage to the humidity sensor.

DO NOT place the sensor in an upward position until it is completely dry, as residual water could damage the sensor.

If the instrument does not turn on, the battery may be inserted with the wrong polarity. Turn off the power and ensure the batteries are inserted correctly according to the polarity markings in the battery compartment.

If the display is not visible, the display contrast may not be set up properly. You can adjust the contrast using the adjustment dial located inside the battery cover at the bottom of the unit.

A flashing battery level indicator means the battery is low. You should turn off the instrument and replace the batteries.

This display indicates that the measurement is outside the instrument’s measuring range. You must use the instrument within the range stated in the specifications.

This can be caused by a few issues:

The probe or the probe cable is not connected properly. Check the connection between the probe and the probe cable, and the cable to the main unit.

The probe or the probe cable may be damaged. In this case, contact your local representative for repair or replacement.

If the instrument is not reading the correct air speed, the probe might not be facing into the wind. For directional probes, make sure the wind direction indicator on the probe is facing directly into the airflow.

The instrument cannot measure the correct temperature with no wind (less than 0.1m/s) due to heat generated by the air velocity sensor. To obtain accurate temperature readings in still air, slowly wave the probe to create an airflow of approximately 0.1 m/s.

If the printer does not operate, check the following:

1. Printer Connection: Confirm the printer connection is secure.

2. Baud Rate: The Baud Rate might not be set properly. Check that the settings on both the instrument and the printer match.

3. Printer Compatibility: Make sure to use the optional printer (Model DPU-S245) and printer cable (Model 6000-31).

4. Connection Procedure: Connect the printer to the printer port, then turn on the instrument and then the printer.

To print, the display must first be frozen. Press the START/HOLD key to hold the display, then press the MODE key to print out.

If your PC isn’t loading data, check these possible causes:

Confirm the USB connection is secure.

The Baud Rate may not be set properly. Check that the baud rate settings on both the instrument and the PC software match.

Confirm you are using the correct communication commands (e.g., in Hyper Terminal).
