Before using the IFM UGT529, please adhere to the following safety instructions:

• Read the operating instructions before setting up the product and keep it for the entire service life.

• The product must be suitable for the corresponding applications and environmental conditions without any restrictions.

• Only use the product for its intended purpose of monitoring levels and detecting objects.

• If the operating instructions or the technical data are not adhered to, personal injury and/or damage to property may occur.

• The manufacturer assumes no liability or warranty for any consequences caused by tampering with the product or incorrect use by the operator.

• Installation, electrical connection, set-up, operation and maintenance of the product must be carried out by qualified personnel authorised by the machine operator.

• Protect units and cables against damage.

The IFM UGT529 is an ultrasonic sensor used for monitoring levels and detecting objects.

To install the IFM UGT529, secure the unit to a bracket.

During installation, consider the following points:

• Sound-absorbing surfaces have a negative effect on a reliable function.

• Consider the dead zone as specified in the technical data sheet; no object detection is possible in the dead zone.

• For units with metal housing (according to UL 508), observe a minimum distance of 12.7 mm between the sensor and non-insulated live parts.

The sensor head of the IFM UGT529 has the following indicators:

• 1/2: status LEDs 1/2 (yellow), which also serve as a setting aid and output indication.

• 3: echo LED (green), which is on when an object or background is detected.

Before connecting the IFM UGT529, ensure that the power is disconnected. Connect the device according to the following pinout and color code (colours to DIN EN 60947-5-2):

• Pin 1: BN (brown) – L+

• Pin 2: WH (white) – OUT2 (switching output)

• Pin 3: BU (blue) – L-

• Pin 4: BK (black) – OUT1 (switching output / IO-Link)

The unit and its parameters are set by means of IO-Link. On delivery, the IFM UGT529 can also be used without IO-Link setting with the preset switch points.

To configure the sensor via IO-Link, an IO-Link master is required. For communication using a PC when the system is not in operation, suitable IO-Link software and an IO-Link adapter cable are necessary.

All process data for the IFM UGT529 is available via IO-Link. The unit is designed for fully bidirectional communication, which provides the following options:

• Remote display: Read and display the current status.

• Remote parameter setting: Read and change the current parameters via IO-Link parameter setting.

To check if the IFM UGT529 operates correctly, bring about a sensor response and observe the LEDs. The LED displays indicate the following statuses, independent of the programmed output configuration:

LED Status	Meaning
Status LED 1/2 yellow ON	Switching output is active.
Echo LED green ON	Echo is received.
Echo LED green flashing	Short circuit at the output.
