When using the IFM UGT528, please adhere to the following safety instructions:

• Installation, electrical connection, set-up, operation, and maintenance of the product must be carried out by qualified personnel authorized by the machine operator.

• Protect the sensor unit and its cables against damage.

For proper installation of the IFM UGT528, secure the unit to a bracket and take note of the following points:

• Sound-absorbing surfaces can have a negative effect on the reliable function of the sensor.

• Always consider the dead zone (refer to the technical data sheet). No object detection is possible within the dead zone.

• For units with a metal housing (according to UL 508), you must observe a minimum distance of 12.7 mm between the sensor and non-insulated live parts.

To connect the IFM UGT528, first disconnect the power. Then, connect the device according to the type selected, using the following pinout and color codes (to DIN EN 60947-5-2):

• Pin 1: BN (brown) – L+

• Pin 2: WH (white) – OUT2 (switching output)

• Pin 3: BU (blue) – L-

• Pin 4: BK (black) – OUT1 (switching output / IO-Link)

The unit and its parameters for the IFM UGT528 are set by means of IO-Link. Upon delivery, the unit can also be used without IO-Link setting, as it comes with preset switch points.

The IFM UGT528 has an IO-Link communication interface that enables direct access to process and diagnostic data and allows for parameter setting while the unit is in operation. The unit is designed for fully bidirectional communication. The following options are available via IO-Link:

• Remote display: Read and display the current status.

• Remote parameter setting: Read and change the current parameters via IO-Link parameter setting.

Operation via IO-Link requires an IO-Link master. Communication with a PC is possible when the system is not in operation, using suitable IO-Link software and an IO-Link adapter cable.

To check if the IFM UGT528 is operating correctly, bring about a sensor response by taking suitable measures and observing the LED displays. The meaning of the LEDs is as follows:

The status LEDs 1/2 (yellow) also function as a setting aid and output indication. The echo LED (green), labeled as 3, is on when an object or background is detected.
