What are the key safety instructions for the IFM UGT527 sensor?

• Read the operating instructions before setting up the product and keep them for the entire service life.

• The product must be suitable for the corresponding applications and environmental conditions without any restrictions.

• Only use the product for its intended purpose, which is monitoring levels and detecting objects.

• If the operating instructions or the technical data are not followed, personal injury and/or damage to property may occur.

• The manufacturer assumes no liability or warranty for any consequences caused by tampering with the product or incorrect use by the operator.

• Installation, electrical connection, set-up, operation and maintenance of the product must be carried out by qualified personnel authorised by the machine operator.

• Protect units and cables against damage.

What is the primary function of the IFM UGT527 sensor?

The IFM UGT527 is an ultrasonic sensor for monitoring levels and detecting objects.

How should I install the IFM UGT527 sensor?

You should secure the unit to a bracket. When installing, please consider the following:

• Sound-absorbing surfaces have a negative effect on a reliable function.

• Be aware of the dead zone (refer to the Technical data sheet); no object detection occurs in the dead zone.

• For units with metal housing (according to UL 508), observe a minimum distance of 12.7 mm between the sensor and non-insulated live parts.

What do the LEDs on the IFM UGT527 sensor indicate?

1/2: These are the status LEDs (yellow). They serve as a setting aid and provide output indication.

3: This is the echo LED (green). It is on when an object or background is detected.

How do I electrically connect the IFM UGT527 sensor?

Before connecting, ensure the power is disconnected. Connect the device according to the following pinout and wire colors (to DIN EN 60947-5-2):

Pin 1 (BN – brown): L+

Pin 2 (WH – white): OUT2: switching output

Pin 3 (BU – blue): L-

Pin 4 (BK – black): OUT1: switching output / IO-Link

How are the settings and parameters configured on the IFM UGT527?

The unit and its parameters are set by means of IO-Link. On delivery, the unit can also be used without IO-Link setting with the preset switch points.

What is IO-Link and how is it used with the IFM UGT527 sensor?

The IFM UGT527 has an IO-Link communication interface which enables direct access to process and diagnostic data. It also makes it possible to set the parameters of the unit while it is in operation. Operation of the unit via an IO-Link interface requires an IO-Link master. With a PC, suitable IO-Link software and an IO-Link adapter cable, communication is possible when the system is not in operation.

What communication options are available for the IFM UGT527 via IO-Link?

The unit is designed for fully bidirectional communication via IO-Link. The following options are available:

Remote display: Read and display the current status.

Remote parameter setting: Read and change the current parameters via IO-Link parameter setting.

What do the LED indicators on the IFM UGT527 mean during operation?

The status of the sensor is displayed by LEDs, independent of the programmed output configuration.
Status LED 1/2 yellow ON Switching output is active.
Echo LED green ON Echo is received.
Echo LED green flashing Short circuit at the output.
