The graphical symbols and labels on your EPSON EB-X51 projector indicate how to use the product safely. It is important to read and follow these instructions to avoid injury or damage.

The following table lists the functions supported by the EPSON EB-X51 projector.

The EPSON EB-X51 projector includes several features for a quick and easy setup:

• Direct Power On feature to turn on the projector as soon as you plug it in.

• Auto Power On feature to turn on the projector when it detects an image signal from the specified port.

• Home screen feature to easily select an input source and useful functions.

• Automatic vertical keystone correction (Auto V-Keystone) to always display a rectangular screen.

• Horizontal keystone slider to quickly correct horizontal distortion in the projected image.

When selecting a location for your EPSON EB-X51, note the following points:

• Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface or install it using a compatible mount.

• Leave plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation. Do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

• Place the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. For the best quality images, adjust the installation position to achieve the correct image size and shape before using keystone correction.

Warning:

• Do not cover the projector’s air intake or exhaust vents to prevent internal temperature rise and fire.

• Avoid dusty or dirty locations, as this can degrade image quality or clog the air filter, leading to malfunction or fire.

• Do not install the projector on an unstable surface or in a location beyond its weight specifications.

• Do not install in locations with salt damage or corrosive gas, as corrosion could cause malfunction or cause the projector to fall.

You can set up or install your EPSON EB-X51 projector in the following ways:

• Front/Rear: Place the projector on a table in front of or behind the screen.

• Front Ceiling/Rear Ceiling: Mount the projector on the ceiling, upside-down, in front of or behind the screen.

After installing the projector, you must select the correct Projection option in the projector’s Extended menu to orient the image correctly.

To connect your EPSON EB-X51 to a computer for VGA video and audio, follow these steps:

1. Connect one end of a VGA computer cable to your computer’s monitor port.

2. Connect the other end of the VGA cable to a Computer port on the projector.

3. Tighten the screws on the VGA connector to secure it.

4. To play sound, connect a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable to your computer’s headphone or audio-out jack.

5. Connect the other end of the audio cable to the Audio port that corresponds to the Computer port you are using on the projector.

If your computer meets the system requirements, you can use the USB Display function on your EPSON EB-X51 to send video and audio through a USB cable.

1. Connect a USB cable to your projector’s USB-B port.

2. Connect the other end to any available USB port on your computer.

3. Turn on the projector and your computer.

4. The first time you connect, you will need to install the Epson USB Display software. Follow the on-screen prompts to run the installer (e.g., Run EMP_UDSE.EXE on Windows or use USB Display Installer on Mac).

5. Follow any on-screen instructions. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the projector until the installation is complete and an image is displayed.

The projector will then display the image from your computer’s desktop and output any audio.

You can connect a device with an HDMI port to your EPSON EB-X51 to send high-quality video and audio with a single cable.

1. Connect one end of an HDMI cable to your computer or video device’s HDMI output port.

2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the projector’s HDMI port.

If you have problems hearing audio through the HDMI connection, you can connect a separate 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable from your device’s audio out port to the projector’s Audio port. You would then need to select the correct audio input in the projector’s Extended menu.

To connect a device with a composite video output (typically a yellow RCA jack) to your EPSON EB-X51, follow these steps:

1. Connect the cable with the yellow connector to your video source’s yellow video output port.

2. Connect the other end to the projector’s yellow Video port.

3. For audio, connect the red and white connectors of the RCA audio cable to your video source’s audio-out ports.

4. Connect the other end to the projector’s L-Audio-R ports.

The PC Free feature on your EPSON EB-X51 allows you to project images and other content from a USB device without a computer.

1. If your USB device has a power adapter, plug it into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect the USB device (like a flash drive or digital camera) to the projector’s USB-A port.

3. Press the [USB] button on the remote control to switch to the USB source.

4. Use the on-screen display to navigate to your files and begin your presentation or slide show.

Note: USB hard drives must be formatted in FAT16/32 and be self-powered. Digital cameras must be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant.

Follow these steps to turn on your EPSON EB-X51 projector:

1. Connect the power cord to the projector’s power inlet and plug it into an electrical outlet. The power indicator will turn blue, indicating standby mode.

2. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control. The projector will beep, and the status indicator will flash blue as it warms up.

3. Once warmed up, the status indicator stops flashing and turns solid blue.

4. Open the projector’s lens cover by sliding the A/V Mute slide lever.

If you do not see an image, press the [Source Search] button to detect the connected source, or select the source from the Home screen.

The Home screen on the EPSON EB-X51 allows you to easily select an image source and access useful functions. You can display it by pressing the [Home] button. It also appears automatically when the projector is on but no signal is being input.

The Home screen provides access to the following:

• Source Selection: A list of available input sources to project from.

• Connection Guide: Displays wireless connection methods for devices like smartphones or computers (if the optional wireless module is installed).

• Help Screen: Displays troubleshooting information for common problems.

• Menu: Opens the projector’s main settings menu.

• Keystone Correction: Allows you to correct the shape of an uneven rectangular image.

• Color Mode: Lets you select the best color mode for your image and environment.

To turn off your EPSON EB-X51 after use, follow these steps:

1. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control. A shutdown confirmation screen will appear.

2. Press the power button again. (To leave the projector on, press any other button).

3. The projected image will disappear, the projector will beep twice, and the status indicator will turn off. With Epson’s Instant Off technology, there is no cool-down period required.

4. To transport or store the projector, make sure the power indicator is blue (not flashing) and the status indicator is off, then unplug the power cord.

5. Close the projector’s lens cover.

To change the language for the menus and messages on your EPSON EB-X51, follow these steps:

1. Turn on the projector.

2. Press the [Menu] button on the control panel or remote control.

3. Select the Extended menu and press [Enter].

4. Select the Language setting and press [Enter].

5. Select the language you want to use and press [Enter].

6. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit the menus.

You may need to change the projection mode on your EPSON EB-X51 so your images project correctly depending on how you positioned the projector.

• Front: Default mode for projecting from a table in front of the screen.

• Front/Ceiling: Flips the image top-to-bottom for projecting from a ceiling mount.

• Rear: Flips the image horizontally for projecting from behind a translucent screen.

• Rear/Ceiling: Flips the image top-to-bottom and horizontally for projecting from a ceiling mount behind a translucent screen.

To change the projection mode using the menus:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the [Menu] button.

3. Select the Extended menu and press [Enter].

4. Select Projection and press [Enter].

5. Select the projection mode you need and press [Enter].

6. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit.

If the projected image from your EPSON EB-X51 is trapezoidal or unevenly rectangular because the projector is tilted or at an angle, you can use the following methods to correct it:

• Auto V-Keystone: When the projector is moved or tilted up or down, it automatically corrects vertical keystone distortion. This works for projection angles up to 30º up or down when the Projection setting is set to Front.

• Horizontal Keystone Slider: Use the slider on top of the projector to correct the shape of an image that is an uneven horizontal rectangle, such as when the projector is placed to the side of the screen. This is effective for angles up to 30º right or left.

• Keystone Buttons: Press the keystone buttons on the control panel to display the Keystone adjustment screen. You can then use the buttons to correct both vertical (V-Keystone) and horizontal (H-Keystone) distortion.

• Quick Corner: For more precise adjustments, go to the Settings > Keystone menu and select Quick Corner. This allows you to use the arrow buttons to adjust each of the four corners of the image independently.

Note that after any keystone correction, your image will be slightly smaller.

To adjust the size and focus of the projected image from your EPSON EB-X51, use the two rings located on top of the projector near the lens.

1. Resizing the Image: Turn on the projector and display an image. Rotate the zoom ring to enlarge or reduce the image size.

2. Focusing the Image: Rotate the focus ring to adjust the focus until the image is sharp and clear.

You can change the aspect ratio (the width-to-height ratio) of the displayed image on your EPSON EB-X51 to fit your screen.

1. Turn on the projector and switch to the image source you want to use.

2. Press the [Aspect] button on the remote control.

3. The shape and size of the image will change, and the name of the new aspect ratio will appear on the screen.

4. Press the [Aspect] button repeatedly to cycle through the available aspect ratios for your input signal.

For the EPSON EB-X51 with XGA resolution, the available aspect modes are:

You can optimize the image quality of your EPSON EB-X51 for your viewing environment by changing the Color Mode. Press the [Color Mode] button on the remote control to cycle through the available modes. The name of the mode appears on the screen as the image appearance changes.

Available Color Modes:

You can temporarily turn off the projected image and mute the sound on your EPSON EB-X51 to redirect your audience’s attention during a presentation. This is done using the A/V Mute function.

• Using the Remote Control: Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to stop projection and mute sound. Press the button again to turn the image and sound back on.

• Using the Projector: Close the A/V Mute slide lever on the projector. Slide it open to resume.

Note that any video or sound action continues to run in the background, so you cannot resume from the exact point you stopped. The projector’s lamp is still operating during A/V Mute.

You can temporarily stop the action in a video or presentation and keep the current image on the screen using the Freeze function on your EPSON EB-X51.

1. Press the [Freeze] button on the remote control to stop the video action and hold the current frame.

2. To restart the video action, press the [Freeze] button again.

Any sound or video action from the source continues to run in the background while the image is frozen.

To use password security on your EPSON EB-X51, you must first set a password.

Setting a Password:

1. Hold down the [Freeze] button on the remote control for about 5 seconds to display the Password Protection setting menu.

2. Select Password and press [Enter].

3. When prompted to “Change the password?”, select Yes and press [Enter].

4. Hold down the [Num] button on the remote control and use the numeric buttons to set a four-digit password.

5. Enter the password again to confirm. You will see a “Password accepted” message.

Selecting Password Security Types:

After setting a password, you can enable different types of protection from the Password Protection menu:

• Power On Protection: Prevents unauthorized use of the projector. A password is required every time the projector is turned on.

• User’s Logo Protection: Prevents changes to the custom user’s logo screen.

• Network Protection: Prevents changes to the projector’s Network settings.

To enable a protection type, select it from the menu and set it to On.

You can lock the buttons on the control panel of your EPSON EB-X51 to prevent anyone from using them. The projector can still be operated using the remote control.

To Lock the Buttons:

1. Press the [Menu] button on the control panel or remote control.

2. Select the Settings menu and press [Enter].

3. Select Lock Setting > Control Panel Lock, and press [Enter].

4. Select one of the lock types and press [Enter]:

• Full Lock: Locks all of the projector’s buttons.

• Partial Lock: Locks all buttons except the power button.

5. Select Yes and press [Enter] to confirm. The Control Panel Lock setting takes effect.

To Unlock the Buttons:

Hold down the [Enter] button on the control panel for 7 seconds. A message is displayed and the lock is released.

The EPSON EB-X51 has several menus to adjust settings. To access them, press the [Menu] button. The main menus are:

• Image Menu: Adjusts image quality settings like Color Mode, Brightness, Contrast, Color Saturation, Tint, Sharpness, White Balance, and Image Enhancement.

• Signal Menu: Customizes input signal settings such as Aspect ratio, Resolution, Tracking, Sync., and Position for computer signals, or Overscan and Advanced settings for video signals.

• Settings Menu: Customizes various projector features like Keystone correction, E-Zoom, Volume, Lock Setting, Remote Receiver, User Button, and Pattern display.

• Extended Menu: Customizes projector setup features including Display options (Home Screen, Messages, Background), Projection orientation, Operation settings (Direct Power On, High Altitude Mode), A/V Settings, Projector ID, and Language.

• Network Menu: (Available on models that support network projection) Lets you view network information and configure wireless settings.

• ECO Menu: Customizes power-saving functions like Power Consumption mode, Sleep Mode, and various timers.

• Info Menu: Displays information about the projector and input sources, such as lamp hours, source, resolution, and serial number.

• Reset Menu: Resets projector settings to their default values, including Reset Lamp Hours and Reset All Config.

Clean the lens of your EPSON EB-X51 periodically or whenever you notice dust or smudges on the surface.

• For dust or smudges: Gently wipe the lens with lens-cleaning paper.

• For stubborn smudges: Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with lens cleaner and gently wipe the lens. Do not spray any liquid directly on the lens.

Warning: Do not use a lens cleaner that contains flammable gas. The high heat from the projector lamp may cause a fire.

Attention: Do not use glass cleaner or harsh materials. Do not subject the lens to any impacts as it could be damaged. Do not use canned air, as the gases may leave a flammable residue.

Regular filter maintenance is important to prevent your EPSON EB-X51 from overheating. Clean the air filter and vents if they get dusty or if you see a message telling you to clean them.

Cleaning the Air Filter and Vents:

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Gently remove dust from the vents and air filter cover using a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush (like a paintbrush).

3. You can remove the air filter to clean both sides. Do not rinse the filter in water or use any detergent or solvent.

4. If dust is difficult to remove or the filter is damaged, it must be replaced.

Replacing the Air Filter:

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Open the air filter cover.

3. Pull the old air filter out of the projector.

4. Place the new air filter (model ELPAF32) in the projector as shown in the user guide and push gently until it clicks into place.

5. Close the air filter cover.

Replace the lamp (model ELPLP97) on your EPSON EB-X51 as soon as possible when the image gets darker, or when you see a lamp replacement message.

Warning: Let the lamp cool for at least one hour before replacing it to avoid injury. If replacing the lamp in a ceiling-mounted projector, stand to the side, not underneath it.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Allow the lamp to cool for at least one hour.

3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the lamp cover.

4. Slide the lamp cover out and lift it off.

5. Loosen the two screws securing the lamp to the projector. These screws do not come all the way out.

6. Grip the raised section of the lamp and pull it straight out.

7. Gently insert the new lamp. If it does not fit easily, make sure it is facing the correct way.

8. Push the lamp in firmly and tighten the two screws to secure it.

9. Replace the lamp cover and tighten its screw to secure it.

After replacing the lamp, you must reset the lamp timer.

After replacing the projector’s lamp, you must reset the lamp timer on your EPSON EB-X51 to clear the replacement message and accurately monitor the new lamp’s usage. Do not reset the timer if you have not replaced the lamp.

1. Turn on the projector.

2. Press the [Menu] button, select the Reset menu, and press [Enter].

3. Select Reset Lamp Hours and press [Enter].

4. A prompt will ask if you want to reset the lamp hours. Select Yes and press [Enter].

5. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit the menus.

The indicator lights on your EPSON EB-X51 show the projector’s status. Here is a guide to their meanings:

If no image appears from your EPSON EB-X51, try the following solutions:

• Make sure the lens cover (A/V Mute slide) is fully open.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to see if the image was temporarily turned off.

• Ensure all necessary cables are securely connected to both the projector and the video source.

• Make sure the projector and the connected video source are powered on.

• Press the projector’s power button to wake it from standby or sleep mode.

• If the control panel buttons do not respond, they may be locked. Use the remote control or unlock the buttons in the menu.

• Adjust the Brightness setting in the Image menu.

• Select High or Medium for the Power Consumption setting in the ECO menu.

If the projected image from your EPSON EB-X51 is fuzzy or blurry, try these solutions:

• Adjust the image focus using the focus ring on the projector.

• Position the projector closer to the screen.

• Position the projector so the keystone adjustment angle is not too wide, as extreme angles can soften parts of the image.

• Clean the projector lens.

• To avoid condensation on the lens, let the projector warm up to room temperature before use if you’ve brought it in from a cold environment.

• Adjust the Sharpness setting in the Image menu.

If there is no sound or the volume is too low or high from your EPSON EB-X51, try the following solutions:

• Adjust the projector’s volume using the volume buttons on the remote control or control panel.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to ensure audio was not temporarily muted.

• Check your computer or video source to make sure its volume is turned up and the audio output is set correctly.

• Check the audio cable connections between the projector and your video source.

• If you are using the USB Display function, ensure “Output audio from the projector” is enabled in the Epson USB Display Settings on your computer.

• If you do not hear sound from an HDMI source, set the connected device’s audio output to PCM.

If your EPSON EB-X51 turns off unexpectedly, try these solutions:

• The projector may have overheated. Check the indicator lights. If the Temp indicator is lit or flashing, let the projector cool down and ensure the air vents and filter are not blocked.

• The projector may have entered sleep mode after a period of inactivity. Press a button on the remote or control panel to wake it. You can disable this feature by setting Sleep Mode to Off in the ECO menu.

• The A/V Mute timer or Lens Cover timer may be enabled, turning the projector off after 30 minutes of inactivity. You can disable these in the ECO menu.

• Check the power cord to ensure it is securely connected.

If your EPSON EB-X51 does not respond to remote control commands, try the following solutions:

• Check that the batteries are installed correctly and have power. Replace them if necessary.

• Make sure you are operating the remote control within its reception angle and range.

• Ensure the projector is not warming up or shutting down.

• Check if a button on the remote is stuck down, which can put it in sleep mode. Release the button.

• Strong fluorescent lighting, direct sunlight, or signals from other infrared devices can interfere with the remote receivers. Dim the lights or move the projector away from the source of interference.

• Make sure at least one of the remote receivers is enabled in the Remote Receiver setting in the projector’s Settings menu.
