The EPSON EB-982W projector and its manual use graphical symbols and labels to indicate important information for safe use. Here is what they mean:

The EPSON EB-982W supports the following functions:

The EPSON EB-982W includes several features for a quick and easy setup:

• Direct Power On: Allows the projector to turn on as soon as you plug it in.

• Auto Power On: The projector turns on when it detects an image signal from the port you specified as the Auto Power On source.

• Home screen: An easy-to-use interface to select an input source and other useful functions.

• Automatic vertical keystone correction (Auto V-Keystone): Automatically adjusts the image to be a rectangular screen.

• Horizontal keystone slider: Allows you to quickly correct horizontal distortion in the projected image.

You can place the EPSON EB-982W projector on almost any flat surface. For optimal image quality, follow these guidelines:

• Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface or install it using a compatible mount.

• Ensure there is plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation. Do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

• Position the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. If you cannot install it squarely, use the keystone correction controls.

Warning:

• Do not cover the air intake or exhaust vents, as this could cause internal temperature to rise and lead to a fire.

• Avoid installing the projector in locations with high dust, humidity, smoke, or steam, as this could cause a fire, electric shock, or deterioration of the projector’s case.

• If installing the projector in a high position, use wires to secure it and prevent it from falling.

• Do not install the projector on an unstable surface.

Follow these steps to connect your EPSON EB-982W to a computer using a VGA cable and play sound through the projector’s speakers.

1. Connect the VGA computer cable to your computer’s monitor port.

2. Connect the other end to a Computer port on the projector.

3. Tighten the screws on the VGA connector.

4. Connect a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable to your laptop’s headphone jack or your desktop’s speaker/audio-out port.

5. Connect the other end of the audio cable to the Audio port on the projector that corresponds to the Computer port you are using.

If your computer meets the system requirements, you can send video and audio to the EPSON EB-982W through a USB port using the USB Display function.

1. Connect a USB cable to your projector’s USB-B port.

2. Connect the other end to any available USB port on your computer.

3. Turn on the projector and your computer.

4. The first time you connect, you will need to install the Epson USB Display software. Follow the on-screen prompts to install it. For Windows, select Run EMP_UDSE.EXE. For Mac, select USB Display Installer from the setup folder that appears.

5. Follow any on-screen instructions. Do not disconnect the USB cable or turn off the projector until the image is displayed.

You can send both video and audio from a computer or video device to your EPSON EB-982W using a single HDMI cable.

1. Connect the HDMI cable to your computer’s or video source’s HDMI output port. Do not turn on the video source before connecting it to the projector to avoid potential damage.

2. Connect the other end to one of the projector’s HDMI ports.

If you have problems hearing audio through the HDMI connection, you can connect a separate 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable from the source’s audio out port to the projector’s corresponding audio port. You would then need to select the correct audio input in the projector’s Extended menu.

You can project images and other content from devices like a USB flash drive, digital camera, or USB hard drive without using a computer.

1. If your USB device has a power adapter, plug it into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect the USB cable or USB flash drive to the projector’s USB-A port.

3. If using a cable, connect the other end to your device.

Note:

• Use the USB cable supplied with the device.

• Do not use a USB hub or a cable longer than 3 meters.

• USB hard drives must be formatted in FAT16/32 and self-powered by their own AC supply.

To disconnect, simply turn off and unplug the device if necessary, then disconnect it from the projector.

Turning On the Projector:

1. Connect the power cord to the projector’s power inlet and plug it into an electrical outlet. The power indicator will turn blue, indicating standby mode.

2. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control. The projector beeps, the status indicator flashes blue, and it begins to warm up.

3. Once warmed up, the status indicator stops flashing and turns solid blue. Open the projector’s lens cover.

Warning: Never look into the projector lens when the lamp is on. Do not block the light from the projector, as the heat can cause objects to melt, burn, or start a fire.

Turning Off the Projector:

1. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control. A shutdown confirmation screen appears.

2. Press the power button again. The projected image disappears, the projector beeps twice, and the status indicator turns off.

3. With Epson’s Instant Off technology, there is no cool-down period required.

4. To transport or store the projector, make sure the power indicator is blue (not flashing) and the status indicator is off, then unplug the power cord and close the lens cover.

Adjusting Image Height:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. To adjust the front foot, pull up on the foot release lever and lift the front of the projector. Release the lever to lock the foot in place.

3. If the image is tilted, rotate the rear feet to adjust their height.

Adjusting Image Shape (Keystone Correction):

If the image is not a perfect rectangle, you can correct its shape.

• Auto V-Keystone: When the projector is moved or tilted, it automatically corrects vertical keystone distortion.

• Horizontal Keystone Slider: Use the slider on the projector to correct uneven horizontal rectangles.

• Keystone Buttons: Press the keystone adjustment buttons on the control panel to display the Keystone adjustment screen. Then press the buttons again to adjust the image shape.

• Quick Corner: For more precise adjustments, navigate to the Settings menu > Keystone > Quick Corner. This allows you to adjust each of the four corners of the image independently.

Resizing the Image:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the zoom ring on the projector lens to enlarge or reduce the image size.

Focusing the Image:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the focus ring on the projector lens until the image is sharp and clear.

When multiple sources are connected to your EPSON EB-982W, you can switch between them using one of the following methods:

• Press the [Source Search] button on the control panel or remote control repeatedly until you see the image from the desired source.

• Press the specific source button on the remote control (e.g., [HDMI], [Computer], [LAN], [USB]). If there is more than one port for that source, press the button again to cycle through them.

• Press the [Home] button on the control panel or remote control to display the Home Screen, then select the source you want to use from the on-screen list.

You can optimize the image for your viewing environment by changing the Color Mode on your EPSON EB-982W.

1. Turn on the projector and switch to the image source you want to use.

2. Press the [Color Mode] button on the remote control.

3. The name of the Color Mode appears on the screen. Press the button repeatedly to cycle through the available modes.

Available Color Modes:

To temporarily turn off the projected image and sound on your EPSON EB-982W, you can use the A/V Mute function. This is useful for redirecting your audience’s attention during a presentation.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to stop projection and mute any sound.

• Alternatively, you can slide the A/V Mute slide lever on the projector to cover the lens.

To turn the image and sound back on, press the [A/V Mute] button again or slide the lens cover open.

Note that any video or sound action continues to run in the background while A/V Mute is active. The projector’s power will automatically turn off after 30 minutes if A/V Mute is enabled, a feature you can disable in the ECO menu.

To send images to your EPSON EB-982W over a wired network, follow these steps:

1. Connect one end of a network cable (Category 5 or better) to your network hub, switch, or router.

2. Connect the other end of the cable to the projector’s LAN port.

3. Press the [Menu] button, select the Network menu, and press [Enter].

4. Select Network Configuration and press [Enter].

5. Navigate to the Wired LAN menu and press [Enter].

6. Assign the IP settings for your network. If your network assigns addresses automatically, set DHCP to On. If you must set addresses manually, set DHCP to Off and enter the projector’s IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway Address.

7. When you finish, select Complete and follow the on-screen instructions to save your settings.

8. Press the [LAN] button on the remote control. The wired network settings are complete when you see the correct IP address on the LAN standby screen.

The EPSON EB-982W offers several security features to deter theft and prevent unintended use.

Password Security:

You can set a password to prevent unauthorized use. The types of password protection include:

• Power On Protection: Requires a password to use the projector.

• User’s Logo Protection: Prevents changes to the custom startup screen.

• Network Protection: Prevents changes to network settings.

To set a password:

1. Hold down the [Freeze] button on the remote control for about 5 seconds to open the Password Protection menu.

2. Select Password and press [Enter].

3. Select Yes to change the password.

4. Hold down the [Num] button and use the numeric buttons to set a four-digit password. Enter it again to confirm.

5. Once the password is set, you can enable the desired protection types (e.g., Power On Protection) by setting them to On.

Button Lock (Control Panel Lock):

This feature blocks operation from the projector’s control panel.

1. Press the [Menu] button and go to the Settings menu.

2. Select Lock Setting > Control Panel Lock.

3. Choose Full Lock (all buttons locked) or Partial Lock (all but power button locked) and select Yes.

To unlock, hold down the [Enter] button on the control panel for 7 seconds or turn the setting Off in the menu using the remote.

Security Cable:

You can physically secure the projector using the security slot with a Kensington Microsaver Security system, or use the security cable attachment point to attach a wire cable to a fixture.

Regular maintenance will keep your EPSON EB-982W projector in optimal condition. Before cleaning any part, turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

Cleaning the Lens:

• Gently wipe the lens with lens-cleaning paper to remove dust or smudges.

• For stubborn smudges, moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with lens cleaner and gently wipe the lens. Do not spray liquid directly on the lens.

Cleaning the Projector Case:

• Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust and dirt.

• For stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth moistened with water and mild soap.

Air Filter and Vent Maintenance:

Clean the air filter when you see a message about high internal temperature, or every 6,000-10,000 hours depending on your model. Clean more often in dusty environments.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug it.

2. Use a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush to gently remove dust from the air filter cover and vents.

3. You can open the air filter cover and remove the filter to clean both sides. Do not rinse the filter with water.

4. If the filter is damaged or dust is difficult to remove, it must be replaced.

Replace the air filter on your EPSON EB-982W if a message tells you to, or if the filter is torn or damaged.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Open the air filter cover.

3. Pull the air filter out of the projector.

4. Place the new air filter into the projector as shown in the manual and push gently until it clicks into place.

5. Close the air filter cover.

Replace the lamp when the projected image gets darker, a lamp replacement message is displayed, or the lamp indicator is flashing orange.

Replacing the Lamp:

1. Turn off the projector, unplug the power cord, and allow the lamp to cool for at least one hour.

2. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the lamp cover.

3. Slide the lamp cover out and lift it off.

4. Loosen the screws securing the lamp to the projector (the screws will not come all the way out).

5. Grip the raised section of the lamp and carefully remove it.

6. Gently insert the new lamp, making sure it is facing the right way.

7. Push the lamp in firmly and tighten the screws to secure it.

8. Replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw.

Resetting the Lamp Timer:

After replacing the lamp, you must reset the lamp timer.

1. Turn on the projector.

2. Press the [Menu] button, select the Reset menu, and press [Enter].

3. Select Reset Lamp Hours and press [Enter].

4. A confirmation prompt will appear. Select Yes and press [Enter].

5. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit the menus.

If no image appears when using your EPSON EB-982W, try the following solutions:

• Make sure the lens cover is fully open.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to see if the image was temporarily turned off.

• Ensure all necessary cables are securely connected and that both the projector and the video source are powered on.

• Press the projector’s power button to wake it from standby or sleep mode.

• Press the [Source Search] button and wait a few seconds for an image to appear.

• If projecting from a laptop, ensure it is set to display on an external monitor.

• Adjust the Brightness setting in the projector’s Image menu.

• Select High or Medium as the Power Consumption setting in the ECO menu.

For a Fuzzy or Blurry Image:

• Adjust the image focus using the focus ring.

• Position the projector closer to the screen.

• Reduce the keystone adjustment angle if it is distorting the image.

• Clean the projector lens.

• Adjust the Sharpness setting in the Image menu.

For Incorrect Brightness or Colors:

• Press the [Color Mode] button on the remote control to try different color modes.

• Adjust settings like Brightness, Contrast, and Color Saturation in the Image menu.

• Check the video source’s settings.

• Make sure all cables are securely connected.

• If using ECO for Power Consumption, try selecting High or Medium.

If there is no sound or the volume is too low or high, try these solutions:

• Adjust the projector’s volume settings using the remote or control panel.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to ensure audio was not temporarily muted.

• Check that the volume on your computer or video source is turned up and the audio output is set correctly.

• Verify the audio cable connections between the projector and your video source.

• If you do not hear sound from an HDMI source, set the connected device to PCM output.

• Check the Mic Input Level setting in the Settings menu; if it’s too high, sound from other devices may be too low.

• Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the projector and a working electrical outlet.

• If using the remote, check the batteries. Also, ensure the Remote Receiver setting is enabled in the Settings menu.

• The projector’s buttons may be locked. Unlock them in the Control Panel Lock setting or use the remote control.

• If the lamp turns off, it may have entered sleep mode due to inactivity. Press a button to wake it. You can disable Sleep Mode in the ECO menu.

• Check the indicator lights. An overheating issue (Temp indicator lit) or a lamp problem (Lamp indicator flashing) will cause the projector to turn off.
