Before using your DYSON V9 vacuum for the first time, you should fully charge the machine. To assemble, connect the wand to the main body until it clicks. Then, connect your chosen cleaner head to the other end of the wand until it clicks.

Your DYSON V9 has three power modes for different tasks. You can change power modes quickly by using the single selection button on the filter end of the machine.

Eco mode: Provides maximum run time for longer cleaning sessions all around your home.

Med mode: Offers the optimum balance of power and run time.

Boost mode: Designed for intensive spot cleaning of ground-in dirt.

It is important to fully charge your new DYSON V9 before its first use and after every clean to help the battery and monitoring system’s algorithm ‘learn’ over time. This helps it more accurately calculate and display the remaining run time.

Connect the charger either directly to the front of the battery or via the wall dock. The blue LEDs on either side of the battery will flash during charging. When the battery is fully charged, both LEDs will light for five seconds, and the display will show 100%.

Note that the machine will not operate or charge if the ambient temperature is below 5°C (41°F). To help prolong battery life, allow your machine to cool down before recharging.

Before vacuuming, check that the underside of the cleaner head or tool is clean and free from any objects that may cause damage. Always check the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning instructions for your flooring, rugs, and carpets.

Be aware that the brush bar on your DYSON V9 can damage certain carpet types and floors. Some carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used. If this happens, it is recommended to vacuum without the motorized floor tool and consult with your flooring manufacturer.

To enter the settings menu on your DYSON V9, press and hold the selection button until the menu screen appears. Tap the button to scroll through the available options.

To exit the settings menu, tap to scroll through the selection menu and select ‘Exit menu’.

To change the language on your DYSON V9’s screen, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold the button until the language list appears. Release the button.

2. Tap the button to scroll through the language list to your preferred language.

3. Press and hold the button until the countdown ends. A green tick will appear on the screen to confirm your selection is complete.

To cancel your selection, release the button during the countdown.

You can turn the alert motor pulse off on your DYSON V9. The motor will no longer pulse, but run time alert information will continue to be displayed on the LCD screen when your machine needs attention. Turning off alerts will not turn off the blockage alert pulsing.

1. Tap to scroll through the settings menu. Select the ‘Alerts’ option.

2. Scroll to select on or off. Hold the button until the countdown ends and a tick appears on the screen.

To cancel your selection, release the button during the countdown.

The LCD screen on your DYSON V9 will show you various alerts:

Run time countdown: When the battery needs charging, the machine will pulse three times and a low run time icon will appear. When the battery is empty, a red warning icon will appear.

Battery health: To get the best performance and life from your battery, use Eco or Med mode.

Filter alerts: An alert will show if the filter isn’t fitted correctly or needs cleaning.

Blockage alerts: An alert will indicate that your machine has a blockage that needs removing.

Empty the bin as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX level to avoid affecting performance. Do not overfill.

1. Remove the wand: Press the red wand release button on the top of the wand and pull it away from the bin.

2. Release the dirt: Hold the machine over a bin, pointing downwards. Firmly push the red bin release button. The bin will slide down, cleaning the shroud as it goes, and the bin base will open. The bin base will not open if the red bin release button isn’t pushed down all the way.

3. Minimize dust contact: For hygiene, cover the bin tightly in a dust-proof bag while you empty. Remove the bin carefully, seal the bag tightly, and dispose.

4. Close the bin: Push the bin base upwards until the bin and bin base click back into place.

If it is necessary to clean the bin on your DYSON V9, follow these steps:

1. Empty the bin as described in the “Emptying your bin” section.

2. Press the red button located on the bin runner to release the bin and slide it off the runner.

3. Only clean the bin with a damp cloth. The bin is not dishwasher safe, and the use of detergents, polishes, or air fresheners is not recommended as it may cause damage.

4. Ensure the bin and seals are completely dry before replacing.

5. To refit, insert the spine onto the bin runner and close the bin by pushing the bin base upwards until it clicks into place.

If your DYSON V9 detects a blockage, the motor will pulse six times, and you won’t be able to use it until the blockage is cleared. If you try to use it while pulsing, it will automatically cut out.

Before looking for blockages, disconnect the machine from the charger, be careful not to touch the trigger, and be aware of sharp objects. Allow the machine to cool down before proceeding.

1. Remove the wand and check for blockages at both ends.

2. Turn the cleaner head over to check for and remove obstructions from the brush bar and air inlet.

3. Remove the bin and check for blockages in the main body, paying attention to the air inlet.

4. Check for blockages in the filter end and bin ends of the machine.

The Motorbar™ cleaner head does not have a washable brush bar. To maintain performance, check and clear it regularly. Ensure the machine is disconnected from the charger and be careful not to touch the trigger.

Remove the brush bar:

1. Press the cleaner head release button on the end of the wand and place the cleaner head upside down.

2. Use a coin to unlock the end cap by turning it.

3. Twist and remove the end cap from the brush bar. Do not wash the end cap.

4. Slide the brush bar out of the cleaner head.

Look for obstructions:

1. Clear any debris from your brush bar.

2. Check inside the cleaner head and remove any debris or blockages.

3. The cleaner head and brush bar are not washable. Wipe them over with a damp lint-free cloth.

Replace the brush bar:

1. Push the end cap back onto your brush bar and slide it back into the cleaner head.

2. Turn the end cap clockwise into the locked position.

The Hair screw tool does not have a washable brush bar. Check it regularly for obstructions. Make sure your DYSON V9 is disconnected from the charger and be careful not to touch the trigger.

Remove the cover and brush bar:

1. Remove the Hair screw tool from the wand or machine.

2. Push the base plate open. Press the red lever down to release the cleaner head cover.

3. Pull the cleaner head cover off the main body of the tool.

Look for obstructions:

1. Pull the brush bar firmly to remove it from the main body.

2. Check and remove any obstructions from all three parts of the Hair screw tool. The tool is not washable; wipe it over with a damp lint-free cloth.

Reassemble the Hair screw tool:

1. Put your brush bar back into position and press firmly until it clicks.

2. Ensure the red locking lever is in the unlocked position. Align the cleaner head cover with the guide on the main body and push it down until it clicks into position.

3. Push the red locking lever up until it clicks into position and push the base plate back into place.

Wash the filter on your DYSON V9 at least once a month to maintain optimum suction power.

1. Twist off your filter: Twist the filter counter-clockwise and pull it away from your machine.

2. Tap your filter: Before washing, tap the filter gently over a bin to remove any loose dust and debris.

3. Wash your filter: Wash with warm, running tap water, gently rubbing the filter with your fingers to remove the dirt.

4. Fill and shake: Place your hand over one end of the filter and fill it with warm tap water. Place your hand over the open end and shake firmly to remove trapped dirt and debris. Repeat these steps until the water runs clear.

5. Dry your filter: Leave your filter to dry for at least 24 hours in a well-ventilated, warm place. Do not dry it in a tumble dryer, microwave, or near a naked flame. The filter must be completely dry before you put it back into the machine to avoid damage.

To clean the tools for your DYSON V9, wipe them with a damp, lint-free cloth, without touching the connector end. Do not put any part of your machine or tools in a dishwasher or use detergents, polishes, or air fresheners. Make sure your tools are completely dry before using them again.

To always get the best performance from your DYSON V9, it’s important to clean it regularly and check for blockages.

Look after your machine:

If your machine is dusty, wipe it with a damp lint-free cloth.

Check for blockages in the cleaner head, tools, and main body of your machine.

Wash your filter regularly and leave it to dry completely.

Don’t use detergents or polishes to clean your machine.

Look after your battery:

To get the best performance and life from your battery, use Eco or Med mode.

Your machine won’t operate or charge if the ambient temperature is below 5°C (41°F). This is designed to protect both the motor and battery.

The serial number for your DYSON V9 can be found in two places. One is printed on the back of the battery pack at the base of the handle. You can also remove the battery to reveal the serial number inside the machine’s handle. Another serial number can be found on the bottom of your machine.
