To assemble your DYSON DC22 vacuum cleaner, follow these steps:

1. Connect the wand to the hose until you hear a “clik”.

2. Connect the handle to the top of the wand until you hear a “clik”.

3. Attach the floor tool to the bottom of the handle until you hear a “clik”.

When using the DYSON DC22, you must follow basic safety precautions. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS VACUUM.

WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY:

1. Do not leave the vacuum when plugged in. Unplug from the outlet when emptying the clear bin, when the vacuum is not in use, and before servicing.

2. Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.

3. Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.

4. Use only as described in the Operating Manual. Use only Dyson recommended accessories and replacement parts.

5. Do not use with a damaged cord or plug. If the vacuum is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, it requires servicing.

6. Do not pull or carry by the cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the vacuum over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.

7. Do not unplug by pulling on the cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.

8. Do not handle the plug or vacuum with wet hands.

9. Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce air flow.

10. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts, such as the brush bar.

11. Turn off all controls before unplugging.

12. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.

13. Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as gasoline, or use in areas where they may be present.

14. Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.

15. Do not use without the clear bin and filters in place.

16. Hold the plug when rewinding onto the cord reel. Do not allow the plug to whip when rewinding.

This appliance is intended for household use only.

Additional Precautions:

• Do not pull on the cord.

• Do not store near heat sources.

• Do not use near an open flame.

• Do not run over the cord.

• Do not pick up water or liquids.

• Do not pick up burning objects.

• Do not use the vacuum above you when on stairs.

• Do not put hands near the brush bar when the vacuum is in use.

• Do not put your hands into the airduct leading to the pre-motor filter.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, the DYSON DC22 has a polarized plug, where one blade is wider than the other. This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

The power and suction controls are located on the vacuum handle.

• Power: Press the power button to turn the vacuum on and off.

• Suction Release / Variable Suction: Use the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons to increase or decrease the suction power as needed.

To attach a tool or accessory, push it firmly onto the end of the handle or wand until it clicks into place. To remove a tool, press the release button and pull it away.

The floor tool has a switch that adjusts the brush bar for different floor types. One setting is for carpets and rugs (brush bar down), and the other setting is for hard floors (brush bar up/retracted).

For compact storage, retract the wand fully. The floor tool can be clipped onto the main body of the vacuum. Wrap the hose around the machine as shown in the operating manual diagrams.

Always turn off the power and unplug the vacuum before emptying the clear bin.

1. Empty the bin as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX mark level.

2. To remove the clear bin from the vacuum, press the button at the rear of the cyclone carrying handle.

3. To release the dirt, hold the bin over a trash can and press the red clear bin release button.

4. To minimize dust and allergen contact, it is recommended to encase the bin tightly in a plastic bag before emptying. After emptying, remove the bin carefully from the bag, seal the bag tightly, and dispose of it as normal.

5. Do not use the vacuum without the clear bin securely in place.

Follow these instructions to clean the bin:

• Do not immerse the whole cyclone assembly in water.

• Do not use detergents, polishes, or air fresheners to clean the clear bin.

• Clean the shroud part with a cloth or dry brush to remove lint and dust.

• Do not put the clear bin in a dishwasher.

• Ensure the clear bin is completely dry before re-fitting it to the vacuum.

To retract the power cord, press the cord rewind button located on the main body of the vacuum. Hold the plug as the cord rewinds to prevent it from whipping around.

CAUTION: Switch ‘OFF’ and unplug the vacuum before removing the filters. Ensure filters are completely dry before refitting them.

The DYSON DC22 has two filters, labeled A and B. You should check your filters regularly and wash them with cold water at least every three months to maintain performance.

Removing the Filters:

• Filter A: This filter is located on the side of the main body. Twist the cover to unlock and remove it, then lift the filter out.

• Filter B: This filter is located behind a cover on the other side of the machine. Press the release catch to open the cover and access the filter.

Washing Instructions:

• Do not use detergents to clean the filters.

• Do not put the filters in a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, oven, microwave, or near an open flame.

• Rinse both filters under cold tap water. Turn the filter over and tap very firmly to remove microscopic particles. For Filter B, rinse and tap it out until the water runs clear, then tap it again to ensure all excess water is removed. This may require up to 10 rinse cycles.

Drying Instructions:

• After washing, leave both filters to dry completely for at least 24 hours before putting them back in the vacuum.

Please Note: If you vacuum fine dust, the filters may require more frequent washing.

CAUTION: Turn the power off and unplug the vacuum before checking for blockages. Beware of sharp objects when clearing them.

Your DYSON DC22 is equipped with an automatically resetting thermal cut-out. If a part of the machine becomes blocked, it may overheat and automatically shut off. If this occurs, unplug the vacuum and allow it to cool down before checking for blockages.

To check for blockages:

1. Unplug the vacuum.

2. Disconnect the floor tool, wand, and hose and inspect each part for obstructions.

3. Check the wand inlet for any large items that may be stuck.

4. Check the airway on the main body of the machine where the hose connects.

5. Remove any debris you find.

6. Refit all parts of the vacuum securely before using it again.

• Do not allow the vacuum to be used by anyone who may not be able to operate it safely.

• Take extra care when vacuuming on stairs; always work with the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs. Keep the vacuum on the floor. Do not put it on chairs, tables, etc.

• Switch off and unplug the vacuum before changing accessories or performing maintenance.

• The use of an extension cord is not recommended.

• Do not lubricate any parts or carry out any maintenance or repair work other than that shown in the operating manual.

• Do not press the cyclone release button while carrying the vacuum, as it could fall and cause injury.

• Consult your flooring manufacturer’s recommended instructions before vacuuming. Some carpets may fuzz if a rotating brush bar is used. If this happens, it is recommended to vacuum in bare floors mode.

• This vacuum is designed for household indoor and car use only.

• Fine dust, such as plaster dust or flour, should only be vacuumed in very small amounts.

• Do not use the vacuum to pick up sharp hard objects, small toys, pins, paper clips, etc., as they may cause damage.

• When vacuuming, some carpets may generate small static charges in the clear bin or wand. These are harmless. To minimize this, do not put your hand or any object into the clear bin unless you have first emptied it and rinsed it with cold water.
