To ensure safe operation of your CHIQ CBM281NSS, please follow these instructions:

1. Read and keep these instructions.

4. Do not use your refrigerator near water.

5. Clean only with a damp cloth.

6. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

7. Do not install near any heat sources, such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

8. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.

9. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and where it exits from the refrigerator.

10. Do not attempt to modify or extend the power cord.

11. Unplug your refrigerator during lightning storms or when it will not be used for long periods of time.

12. Make sure that the available AC power matches the voltage requirements of your refrigerator.

13. Do not handle the plug with wet hands to avoid electric shock.

14. Unplug the power cord by holding the plug, never by pulling the cord.

15. Turn off your refrigerator before unplugging it.

16. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required if the refrigerator has been damaged in any way.

17. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose your refrigerator to rain, moisture, dripping, or splashing, and no objects filled with liquids should be placed on top of it.

18. Do not use extension cords or ungrounded (two prong) adapters.

19. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.

20. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the refrigerator.

21. If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid a hazard.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in electric shock, fire, or death.

1. WARNING-Keep ventilation openings, in both your refrigerator and the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.

2. WARNING-Do not touch the interior of your refrigerator with wet hands. This could result in frostbite.

3. WARNING-Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process, other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

4. WARNING-Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.

5. WARNING-Do not damage the refrigerant tubing when handling, moving, or using your refrigerator.

6. WARNING-DANGER-Never allow children to play with, operate, or crawl inside your refrigerator. Before you throw away your old refrigerator, take off the door and leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside.

7. WARNING-Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartments of the appliance unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.

8. Unplug your refrigerator before carrying out user maintenance on it.

9. If a component part is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similar qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

10. Follow local regulations regarding disposal of your refrigerator due to flammable refrigerant and gas.

11. Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this appliance.

The CHIQ CBM281NSS includes the following features:

1. Ventilation Condition:

The position you select for the refrigerator installation should be well-ventilated and have less hot air. Do not locate the refrigerator near a heat source such as a cooker or boiler, and avoid direct sunlight. Do not locate the refrigerator in a damp place, to prevent rusting and leaking electricity. The result of the total space of the room in which the refrigerator is installed being divided by the refrigerant charge amount of the refrigerator shall not be less than 8 g/M³.

2. Heat Dissipation Space:

When working, the refrigerator gives off heat to its surroundings. Therefore, at least 30mm of free space should be spared at the top side, more than 50mm on both sides, and above 50mm at the back side of the refrigerator.

3. Level Ground:

Place the refrigerator on a solid and flat floor to keep it stable, or else it will give rise to vibration and noise. If the refrigerator is placed on flooring materials like carpet, straw mat, or polyvinyl chloride, apply solid backing plates underneath to prevent color change due to heat dissipation.

Important: Unobstructed ventilation shall be maintained around the appliance or in an embedded structure.

1. Standing time: After the refrigerator is properly installed and well cleaned, do not switch it on immediately. Make sure to energize the refrigerator after more than 1 hour of standing to ensure its normal operation.

2. Cleaning: Confirm the accessory parts inside the refrigerator and wipe the inside with a soft cloth.

3. Power-on: Insert the plug into a solid socket to start the compressor. After 1 hour, open the freezer door. If the temperature inside the freezer compartment drops obviously, it indicates the refrigeration system is working normally.

4. Storage of food: After the refrigerator runs for a period of time, the internal temperature will be automatically controlled according to your temperature setting. After the refrigerator is fully cooled, put in foods, which usually need 2-3 hours to be fully cooled. In summer, when the temperature is high, it takes more than 4 hours for foods to be fully cooled. Try to open the refrigerator door as little as possible before the internal temperature cools down.

Temperature can be adjusted by pressing the ‘SET’ key. Every time the “SET” key is pressed, the current mode indicator light turns off while the next mode indicator lights up. The setting is validated if no key is operated within 5 seconds.

The temperature modes cycle as following: “3 > 2 > 1 > Fast Cool > 5 > 4 > 3”.

The settings are represented on the control panel from 1 (COLD) to 5 (COLDEST), with 3 being the recommended setting.

The freezer temperature is adjusted using the air regulating rod (slider) located inside the refrigerator.

• When the temperature mode is unchanged, adjusting the air regulating rod from left (Coldest) to right (Cold) will decrease the fridge temperature and increase the freezer temperature.

• When the temperature mode is unchanged, adjusting the air regulating rod from right (Cold) to left (Coldest) will increase the fridge temperature and decrease the freezer temperature.

• It is recommended to keep the air regulating rod in the middle position (Recommended). When a lower freezer temperature is needed, adjust the rod to the left. This will decrease the freezer temperature and increase the fridge temperature.

The fridge thermostat and the air regulating rod should be used in combination for optimal performance. Follow these recommendations based on the ambient temperature:

• When the refrigerator is used under ambient temperature higher than 35°C, do not set it at Mode 5 on the temperature control panel, and adjust the air regulating rod to the right side of the middle position. This will ensure the normal operation of the fridge compartment.

• When the refrigerator is used under ambient temperature lower than 35°C, do not adjust the air regulating rod to the right side when the temperature mode is set at Mode 5, to avoid the fridge temperature being undercooled.

• If the fridge temperature is not cool or is undercooled, set the thermostat at the middle mode and adjust the air regulating rod to the middle position.

1.2 Fast Cool: Cooling down the temperature in a rapid manner is beneficial to the prevention of food nutrition loss and the preservation of freshness. After a cumulative running period of 30 hours, the fast cooling function will exit automatically, with the temperature mode restored to the setting before the function was enabled.

1.3 Door open alarm: If the fridge door is open for more than 3 minutes, buzzer alarms will be continuously issued. This can be stopped by pressing any key but will be restored after 3 minutes if the door remains open. The alarms will stop when the door is closed.

1.4 Power cut memory: In case of a power outage, the refrigerator will maintain the running state that was set before the power failure once power is restored.

1.5 Power-on delay: To protect the compressor from damage in case of a short-time power failure (less than 5 minutes), the compressor will not start immediately after it is powered on.

1.6 Fault alarm: If the indicator light of Mode 1, Mode 3, or Mode 5 keeps flashing, it indicates a refrigerator fault. Please contact after-sales personnel for service.

Precautions for use:

• The appliance might not operate consistently if sited for an extended period below the cold limit of its designated temperature range.

• The internal temperature can be affected by the location of the appliance, ambient temperature, and frequency of door opening.

• Effervescent drinks should not be stored in the freezer compartment. Some products like water ices should not be consumed too cold.

Food storage location:

• Fresh food compartment: Suitable for foods that do not need to be frozen, cooked food, beer, eggs, some condiments, milk, fruit juice, etc.

• Crisper box: Suitable for the preservation of vegetables, fruits, etc.

• Freezer compartment: Suitable for the storage of ice cream, frozen food, and foods to be preserved for a long time.

Cautions for food storage:

• Clean foods and wipe them dry before storing.

• It is advisable to seal foods to prevent water evaporation and odor taint.

• Do not put too many or too heavy foods inside. Keep enough space between foods for cold air flow.

• Do not store excessive or overweight foods to avoid crushing the shelf.

• When storing foods, keep a distance from the inner wall. Do not place water-rich foods too close to the fridge rear wall, lest they get frozen on the inner wall.

• Store foods by category to shorten door open duration and prevent spoilage.

Energy-saving tips:

• Allow hot food to cool down to room temperature before putting it in the refrigerator.

• Put frozen food in the fresh food compartment to thaw, using the low temperature of the frozen food to cool the fresh food, thus saving energy.

The freezer temperature is controlled below -18 °C. It is advisable to store food for long-term preservation in the freezer compartment, but the storage duration indicated on the food packaging should be adhered to.

• The freezer drawers are used to store food that needs to be frozen. Fish and meat of large block size should be cut into small pieces and packed into fresh-keeping bags before they are evenly distributed inside the freezer drawers.

• Allow hot foods to cool down to room temperature before putting them in the freezer compartment.

• Do not put a glass container with liquid or canned liquid that is sealed in the freezer compartment, as it may burst due to volume expansion when the liquid freezes.

• Divide food into appropriately small portions.

• Pack food before freezing it, using dry packing bags. Foods should be packed or covered by materials that are firm, tasteless, impervious to air and water, non-toxic, and pollution-free to avoid cross-contamination and transfer of odor.

1. When you are buying frozen food, look at the Storage Guidelines on the packaging. You will be able to store each item for the period shown against the star rating.

2. Check the temperature of the frozen food cabinet in the shop where you buy the frozen foods.

3. Make sure the frozen food package is in perfect condition.

4. Always buy frozen products last on your shopping trip or visit to the supermarket.

5. Try to keep frozen food together whilst shopping and on the journey home, as this will help to keep the food cooler.

6. Don’t buy frozen food unless you can freeze it straight away. Special insulated bags can be bought from most supermarkets and hardware shops.

7. For some foods, thawing before cooking is unnecessary. Vegetables and pasta can be added directly to boiling water or steam cooked.

8. Use quality food and handle it as little as possible. When foods are frozen in small quantities, it will take less time for them to freeze up and thaw.

9. Estimate the amount of foods to be frozen up. When freezing large amounts of fresh food, adjust the temperature control knob to the low mode, with the freezer temperature lowered, so foods can be frozen up in a fast manner.

• Location: Do not place your refrigerator/freezer near a heat source, e.g., cooker, boiler or radiator. Avoid direct sunlight in out-buildings or sun lounges.

• Leveling: Make sure to level your refrigerator/freezer using the front leveling feet. If not level, the door gasket sealing performance will be affected, or it may lead to operating failure.

• Installation: After locating the refrigerator/freezer in position, wait for 4 hours before using it, so as to allow the refrigerant to settle. Do not cover or block the vents or grilles of your appliance.

• If the appliance will not be used for several months, turn it off first, and then unplug it from the wall outlet.

• Take out all foods.

• Clean and dry the interior thoroughly. To prevent odor and mold growth, leave the door ajar: block it open or have the door removed if necessary.

• Keep the cleaned appliance in a dry, ventilated place and away from the heat source, place the appliance smoothly, and do not place heavy objects on top of it.

• The unit should not be accessible to child’s play.

Warning: Before cleaning, unplug the power plug first. Do not plug in or out with a wet hand to avoid electric shock and injury. Do not spill water directly on the refrigerator. Do not stretch your hands into the bottom of the refrigerator to avoid being scratched by sharp metal corners.

Internal and external cleaning:

• Food residuals can produce bad odor, so the refrigerator must be cleaned regularly. The fresh food compartment is usually cleaned once a month.

• Remove all shelves, crisper box, bottle racks, cover board, and drawers. Clean them with a soft towel or sponge dipped in warm water or neutral detergent.

• Clear off the dust accumulated on the rear panel and side plates of the refrigerator often.

• After using detergent, rinse it with clean water, and then wipe it dry.

Caution: Do not use a bristle brush, steel wire brush, detergent, soap powder, alkaline detergent, benzene, gasoline, acid, hot water or other corrosive or soluble items to cleanse the cabinet surface, door gasket, plastic decorative parts, etc., to avoid damage.

• Carefully wipe dry the door gasket. Clean the groove using a wooden chopstick wrapped with a cotton string. After cleaning, fix the four corners of the door gasket first, and then embed it segment by segment into the door groove.

Note: If the above descriptions are inapplicable to troubleshooting, do not disassemble and repair it yourself. Contact the local store where your purchase was made for service by an authorized engineer.

1. Make sure your refrigerator is unplugged.

2. Pry the hinge cover up and off, remove the screws that secure the upper hinge to the door, then remove the hinge.

3. Remove the refrigerator compartment door from the cabinet.

4. Remove the screws that secure the center hinge.

5. Remove the refrigerator compartment door.

6. Remove the screws that secure the lower hinge to the right side of the cabinet, then remove the hinge.

7. Remove the washer and nut that secure the pin screw to the right hole on the lower hinge, then remove the pin screw and two pin shafts from the low hinge.

8. Install the pin screw into the left hole and insert the pin shafts into the adjacent holes, then secure the pin screw with the washer and nut.

9. Install the lower hinge on the left side of the cabinet and install the adjust foot on the right side of the cabinet.

10. Remove the screw that secures the door stops from the bottom right of the freezer compartment door, then remove the door stops and install them on the bottom left side.

11. Install the freezer compartment door.

12. Remove the door bushing hole cover on the top left side of the freezer door, then move the door bushing from the top right of the door to the top left of the door. Install the hole cover in the bushing hole on the top right of the door.

13. Remove the center hinge screw hole plugs on the left side of the cabinet, then install the plugs in the screw holes on the right side of the cabinet.

14. Install the center hinge to the left side with the screws you removed previously.

15. Remove the screw that secures the door stops from the bottom right of the refrigerator compartment door, then remove the door stops and install to the bottom left side.

16. Install the refrigerator compartment door.

17. Remove the door bushing hole cover on the top left side of the refrigerator compartment door, then move the door bushing from the top right of the door to the top left of the door. Install the hole cover in the bushing hole on the top right of the door.

18. Remove the hinge screw hole cover from the top left side of the cabinet, then install it on the top right side of the cabinet.

19. Secure the upper hinge to the top left side of the cabinet with the screws you removed previously. Before you tighten the upper hinge screws, make sure that the top of the door is level with the cabinet and that the rubber gasket makes a good seal.

20. Install the hinge cover over the hinge on the top left side of the cabinet.
