The communication systems are self-diagnosing. To perform fault finding, use the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051B in “Guided fault finding” mode.

The integrated CD drive in the Lowentry radio can play the following formats: Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3.

The following formats cannot be played: CD with a diameter of 8 cm and Mixed CD (CD with data and audio files).

Step 1. Remove the CD from the radio.

Step 2. Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

Step 3. Remove the upper cover together with the air vents out of the dash panel until the underneath bolts of the centre console cover can be reached.

Step 4. Remove the bolts for the centre console cover.

Step 5. Carefully lever out the cover of the centre console using the removal wedge 3409.

Step 6. Remove the bolts (1.5 Nm) on the radio.

Step 7. Pull the radio out of the installation shaft until you can gain access to the connectors on the back.

Step 8. Press together the connector locking mechanism, then swing the locking bar up to disconnect the connector.

Step 9. Release the connector on the aerial connection and disconnect it.

Step 1. Obtain the radio code.

Step 2. Switch on the radio. It will automatically display “SAFE” and then “1000”.

Step 3. Enter the radio code using station buttons 1 to 4. Use station button 1 to enter the first digit, station 2 for the second digit, etc.

Step 4. Press and hold the function button with an arrow until the electronic anti-theft coding system is activated. A brief signal sound indicates this.

If the code is entered correctly, the radio frequency appears in the display.

If an incorrect code is entered, it can be immediately corrected with a further attempt. If an incorrect code is entered twice, the radio will be blocked for one hour. During the locking period, the radio must remain switched on and the ignition key must remain in the ignition lock. You may repeat the process after one hour. Only two attempts are allowed, after which the radio will be blocked for one hour.

To activate: With the radio connected to voltage, press and hold the specified keys (indicated in the radio manual) simultaneously for at least 5 seconds until “CDC transport protection device activated” appears in the display.

To deactivate: Connect and install the radio. Press and hold the specified keys simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. When the display shows “CDC transport protection device activated”, press the “Deactivate” button.

The USB memory medium power consumption must not exceed 2.5 W (500 mA/5 V). Additionally, never insert metal objects into the USB connection retainer as this can cause short circuits. Hard drives and USB hubs cannot be used.

Step 1. Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers, and remove the ignition key.

Step 2. Open the hinged centre armrest completely.

Step 3. Take the CD out of the CD changer.

Step 4. Place radio release tools VAS 3316 into the provided slots on the left and front side of the CD changer until they audibly engage.

Step 5. Use the tools to pull out the CD changer.

Step 6. Release the connector and pull it off.

Step 7. Press the locking clip while pulling the radio release tools out.

Step 1. Grip the iPod holder and pull it out in the direction of the arrow.

Step 2. Disconnect the connector underneath the iPod holder.

Only the following music files can be played:

mp3 (MPEG1 Layer 3 of 32 to 320 kbps)

wma (from 8 to 192 kbps)

wav (16 kHz sampling frequency with 16 bit encoding, stereo)

ogg vorbis (up to q10, 48 kHz, stereo)

DMR music formats are not supported.

Use the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051B and select “Guided fault finding”. Then, navigate through the menu as follows: Body, Electrical system, 01 – On board diagnosis-capable systems, Multimedia control unit, Multimedia control unit functions, and finally, Left and right audio channel final control diagnosis.

Step 1. Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

Step 2. Remove the front door trim.

Step 3. Release the locking mechanism on the connector and disconnect it.

Step 4. Drill out the rivets using a suitable drill bit and remove the loudspeaker.

Note: Ensure all swarf is removed from the door to prevent corrosion damage. Rectify any damage to paintwork caused by drilling.

Step 1. Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.

Step 2. Remove the strip roof leading edge and both trims on the C-pillar.

Step 3. Lower the rear section of the moulded headliner.

Step 4. Remove the foamed pad.

Step 5. Remove connectors and lie the aerial wiring to the side.

Step 6. Remove the nut (7 Nm) and take the satellite tuner aerial out upwards.

Step 1. Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

Step 2. Remove the front interior light.

Step 3. Unclip and disconnect the connector.

Step 4. The microphone is locked with three locking lugs. Operate the three locking lugs and take the telephone microphone out.

Step 1. Remove the driver airbag unit.

Step 2. Pull off the connector.

Step 3. Remove the bolt (2 Nm).

Step 4. Remove the button set.

The sender is delivered with adhesive film.

Step 1. Clean the adhesive film area on the roof.

Step 2. Connect the connector to the magnetic field sender.

Step 3. Remove the adhesive film from the sender.

Step 4. Align the sender with the edge of the roof end strip and the marking.

Step 5. Press the sender firmly onto the adhesive film.

Step 6. Recalibrate the compass system.
