The electrical supply must provide a minimum of 110 to 120 volts. With the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E operating, line voltage must not drop below 108 volts. Operating with low line voltage may damage electrical components and cause the motor to stall.

The inlet water supply requirements are as follows:

1. Minimum pressure of 20 PSI (1.4 bar).

2. Water flow must be at least 125% of the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E rated flow.

3. Use a good grade of garden hose with a minimum I.D. of 5/8 inch (16 mm) and no longer than 50 feet (15.24 m).

4. The water must be cold to avoid damage to the pump.

The GFCI must be tested before each use of the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E. Follow these steps:

1. Plug the GFCI into a grounded receptacle. Connect the high pressure outlet hose and turn on the water supply.

2. Press and release the RESET button to verify power to the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E.

3. Press the TEST button. The red indicator bar on the reset button should appear, and power to the unit should be interrupted.

4. Press and release the RESET button again. Power should be restored to the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E.

The spray nozzle on the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E can be adjusted in the following ways:

Pressure Adjustments: Pull the nozzle cover toward the gun handle for high pressure spray. Push the nozzle cover away from the gun handle for detergent spray.

Pattern Adjustment: Turn the nozzle fully clockwise for a 0 degree pinpoint pattern. Turn the nozzle cover fully counterclockwise for a 60 degree fan type pattern. You can achieve an infinite adjustment by turning the nozzle for any pattern between 0 and 60 degrees.

Follow these steps to clean with detergents:

1. Mix the detergent according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

2. Ensure the water supply is adequate and fully turned on.

3. Slide the detergent hose onto the barbed detergent valve on the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E.

4. Insert the threaded end of the detergent strainer into the detergent hose.

5. Insert the detergent hose into the solution, ensuring it is clear and fully submerged.

6. Slide the nozzle collar forward into the low pressure position; the detergent system only works in this position.

7. Start the unit and squeeze the gun trigger.

8. Apply detergent to the lowest surface first, moving up with long, overlapping strokes.

9. Slide the nozzle collar to the rear to return to high pressure mode and rinse from the top down.

10. Siphon a gallon of clear water through the system after each use to prevent damage and contamination.

If you experience low nozzle pressure, check the following:

1. Ensure the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E is properly primed.

2. Verify the inlet water supply meets the required specifications.

3. Check if the water inlet screen is partially plugged and clean it if necessary.

4. Check for and remove any kinks in the water inlet hose.

5. Ensure the nozzle is not set for low pressure (slide the wand collar rearward).

6. Replace the nozzle if it is worn.

Check the oil in the pump periodically. With the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E on a level surface, the oil should fill the oil level sight glass; top it off if necessary using HY-GARD or SAE30W non-detergent oil. Change the pump break-in oil after the first 25 hours of operation and at 250-hour intervals thereafter.

To protect the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E from freezing temperatures, it must be filled with antifreeze to prevent the pump manifold and unloader valve from cracking due to water expansion. Use the following procedure:

1. Install a short 2 to 4 foot garden hose on the water inlet.

2. Raise the open end of the hose and insert a funnel.

3. Fill the hose with a 50-50 mix of antifreeze.

4. Start the JOHN DEERE HR-1400E, depress the spray gun trigger, and let it run for 15 seconds while adding antifreeze.

5. Release the trigger for 15 seconds to pull antifreeze into the unloader valve.

6. Repeat the cycle of 15 seconds trigger on, 15 seconds trigger off.

Note: Use of smaller cords will cause electric motor stalling or circuit breaker stoppage.
