The fresh air blower is accessible from the footwell on the front passenger side. First, remove the heater unit baffle plate. Pull the connector off the fresh air blower. Remove the bolt for the fresh air blower (1 Nm). Release the catch, turn the fresh air blower in the direction of the arrow, and remove it.

To remove the filter, remove the footwell cover on the front passenger side. Remove the baffle plate from the heater unit. Release the cover in the direction of the arrow. Remove the dust and pollen filter from the heater unit downwards. To install, perform these steps in reverse order, ensuring the correct installation position of the filter.

If the vehicle is equipped with Climatronic, the photosensor must be removed first. Remove the bolt and remove the cover (models with Climatronic only). Remove the securing bolts, remove the compartment from the dash panel, pull the centre vent upwards in the direction of the arrow, and disconnect the connectors on the centre vents. Installation is performed in reverse order.

Using an appropriate tool, lever out the vent and disconnect the connector on the vent. Installation is performed in reverse order. Note that when levering out components, a pad should be used to avoid damage to the dash panel.

Remove the glove compartment, then remove the securing bolt and remove the right footwell vent. Installation is performed in reverse order. If the vehicle has glove compartment cooling, ensure that the cooling hose is properly seated.

Remove the compartment on the driver side, remove the securing bolt, and remove the left footwell vent. Installation is performed in reverse order.

Before removing the controls, set the rotary knobs to the following positions: set the heater control to cold, the blower to 0, and the vent direction to footwell.

Run the fresh air blower at the highest speed. If air flows out of the defroster vent in the defrost position, and no air flows out of the footwell vent, then the flexible shaft is correctly installed. Otherwise, remove the flexible shaft from the adapter, position the controls for heated and fresh air on the adapter, and turn the rotary knob for air distribution 1/2 turn (180 degrees), then reconnect the flexible shaft and repeat the check.

First, remove the controls for fresh and heated air. Reach into the centre console, release the locking lug of the Bowden cable sleeve, and take the Bowden cable sleeve out of the mounting. Release the ball of the Bowden cable from the operating lever. Remove the driver side footwell trim, then unclip the Bowden cable from the control unit for the temperature flap and the heater unit. To install, perform these steps in reverse order, ensuring the Bowden cable lies under the hook and checking that the temperature knob turns easily from cold to warm.

Remove the glove compartment, then remove the cover. Disconnect the connector from the fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor and remove it from the mounting. The position of the air recirculation flap must not be changed.

Danger of scalding injuries exists when the engine is warm because the coolant temperature may be above 100 degrees Celsius and the system is pressurized. If necessary, release pressure and reduce the temperature before carrying out repairs.

Remove the driver side footwell trim and the left footwell vent. If the temperature flap lever prevents access to the upper bolt, change the flap position at the controls. Disconnect the battery to avoid a short circuit. Remove the bolts from the cover, remove the securing nut for the voltage supply and earth connection, disconnect the connector, and pull the element out of the heater unit. Installation is the reverse of this procedure.

The conditions are: intake temperature less than 19 degrees Celsius, coolant temperature less than 80 degrees Celsius, passenger compartment temperature about 20 degrees Celsius, battery voltage greater than 11 volts, alternator load not greater than 50 percent (terminal DF), engine speed greater than 450 rpm, and the rotary knob for interior temperature turned to the end position for maximum temperature.

The oil, located in the sump of the air conditioner compressor before the system is switched on for the first time, distributes itself through the refrigerant circuit as follows:

Air conditioner compressor: approx. 50%

Condenser: approx. 10%

Suction hose: approx. 10%

Evaporator: approx. 20%

Receiver: approx. 10%

Start the engine with the air conditioner compressor switched off (operating mode Econ) and wait until the idling speed is stable. Open the dash panel vents. Set the temperature to Lo on the Climatronic operating and display unit. Switch the air conditioner on (operating mode Auto) and let the air conditioner run for at least 5 minutes with the engine at idling speed.
