Electrostatic charge from the human body can disturb the function of electrical components in the gearbox and selector mechanism. Before beginning work on electrical components, touch an earthed object, such as a water pipe or lifting platform. Do not touch connectors or open electronic components directly.

To drain the torque converter, you need the oil extraction unit V.A.G 1358 A and the oil extraction probe V.A.G 1358 A/1. Extract the ATF from the torque converter using these tools.

Carefully push the torque converter hub via the oil seal to the first stop. Turn the torque converter towards the gearbox using light pressure until the notch in the hub engages in the follower of the pump gear and the torque converter can be felt to slip in place. It is properly inserted when it can easily be turned by hand and is seated equally deep in the gearbox around the entire circumference.

To remove the selector lever cable, release the cable from the gearbox first, then remove it from the cable support bracket. Do not use pliers to avoid breaking the securing tabs on the cable support bracket, and do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Use the setting gauge T10173. Move the selector lever to position N. Ensure the selector lever cable is disconnected, the selector shaft is in the N position, the securing bolts for the F125 switch are loosened, and the selector shaft lever is removed. Place the setting gauge on the selector shaft and turn the multifunction switch until the gauge engages in the lug on the switch connector. Secure the gauge to the selector shaft with a bolt, tighten the switch bolts to 6 Nm, and then remove the setting gauge.

The initial filling capacity is approximately 7.0 liters. The ATF is filled for life and no change is required.

Remove the cable from the gearbox and place the free end so it does not bump against anything. Loosen the bolt on the cable, remove it from the cable support bracket, and move the selector lever repeatedly from P to S and back to P. The lever must move easily. Reinstall the cable and adjust it.

Always renew O-rings, seals, and gaskets. Before installing a radial oil seal, coat the sealing lips and the area between them with sealing grease G 052 128. Ensure the open side of the oil seal faces the oil. Dispose of drained oil according to regulations.

Ensure the gearbox is not in emergency running mode, the vehicle is level, and the selector lever is in P. Connect the diagnostic tester and use it to monitor the ATF temperature. Start the engine, raise the vehicle, and place a drip tray under the gearbox. When the ATF temperature is between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius, remove the inspection plug. If ATF drips out, the level is correct. If not, top up the ATF.

Remove the noise insulation below the engine. Place a drip tray under the gearbox. Unscrew and remove the ATF inspection plug. Remove the overflow pipe and allow the remaining ATF to drain. Loosen the oil pan bolts diagonally and remove the oil pan with the gasket.

Clean the two magnets in the oil pan recesses and ensure they make full contact with the pan. Check that the seal is undamaged and all eight spacer sleeves are present. Fit the oil pan with the seal, ensuring proper gasket seating. Tighten the pan bolts diagonally in several stages to the specified torque. Reinstall the overflow pipe and the inspection plug with a new seal.

After removing the oil pan, unscrew the ATF strainer bolts and pull the strainer off the valve body.

Remove the noise insulation and the drive shaft (left side requires removal). Carefully drill a 2 to 4 mm hole into the outer sheet metal ring of the oil seal. Use the puller T10055 and adapter T10055/2 to pull out the seal. Ensure no metal chips enter the gearbox. Apply ATF to the new seal and drive it in straight with the appropriate thrust piece until it stops. Reinstall the drive shaft and check the ATF level.
