What should I do in an emergency?

Immediately remove plug from the mains or switch off the mains fuse.

What is the appliance exclusively intended for?

The appliance is intended for:

Preparing coffee and hot water.

What are the installation requirements?

Use the appliance only after it has been installed.

The appliance must be installed and connected up to the electricity supply according to the separate installation instructions. The necessary work should be carried out by a qualified fitter/electrician.

Read the section «Using for the first time» before using the appliance for the first time.


What are the requirements for the mains connection?

The appliance must be connected to a suitable mains socket.

Mains voltage must correspond to the specifications on the identification plate on the appliance.

Recommendation: connect the appliance via a residual current device (RCD).


What are the main dangers associated with using the appliance?

The appliance must not be used by children or persons not instructed in its use.

The appliance is dangerous to children. Keep children away. Switch off when unattended.

Keep packaging material out of the reach of children.

Do not point the steam-/hot water nozzle at yourself or others (danger of scalding).

Do not insert any objects into the openings (Danger! High voltage!).

If accessible, do not touch the plug with wet hands or pull it out by the cable.

Caution: you may scald yourself if you come into contact with hot water, steam or the nozzle.

Do not remove the drip tray during preparation, otherwise you may scald yourself with hot drinks.


What should I do if the appliance seems defective or is damaged?

Do not use the appliance if it is faulty or faults are suspected, e.g. if dropped.

Any repairs should only be carried out by Customer Services or authorised and qualified persons.

Do not use the appliance if the mains cable is defective. Have the mains cable replaced only by Customer Services (Danger! High voltage!).

Switch off the appliance before opening the service door. Danger of scalding!


How should I clean or descale the appliance safely?

If possible, disconnect the plug from the mains and allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning.

Do not spray the appliance down with water.

Do not dry any part of the appliance in the oven or microwave.


What should I do before prolonged periods of non-use?

Empty the water tank and coffee bean hopper.

Empty and clean the drip tray and dregdrawer.

Switch off the appliance.


What type of spare parts should be used?

In the interests of safety, use only original spares and accessories.

What should be used in case of fire?

In the event of fire, use only carbon dioxide (CO2) to extinguish flames.

How do I determine and set the water hardness?

To test for water hardness: hold the provided test strip under water for one second. Take a reading after one minute.

Compare the reading to the table below:

How do I fill the water tank for the first time?

1. Open the operating panel by pressing on the strip handle.

2. Remove the water tank.

3. Optional: Insert a water filter (e.g., «Aqua Prima») according to its package instructions. The appliance can be used without a filter, but requires more frequent descaling. Using a filter improves coffee quality and reduces strain on appliance parts. If using a filter, program it in User Settings/Programming.

4. Fill the tank with fresh water (max. 1.7 l).

5. Insert the water tank back into the appliance.


How do I fill the coffee bean hopper?

1. Open the operating panel.

2. Remove the coffee bean hopper.

3. Fill with coffee beans (max. 300 g).

4. Insert the coffee bean hopper back into the appliance.


How do I switch on the appliance for the first time?

1. Switch on the appliance at the main switch (located behind the operating panel).

2. Close the operating panel. «Ventilate» appears in the plain text display.

How do I ventilate the system?

1. Place a tall vessel under the nozzle.

2. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key and draw hot water until a steady jet of water is produced.

3. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key again to interrupt the flow. «Select product» and «Ready for use» appear in the plain text display.


How do I access and navigate User Settings/Programming?

The flashing symbol in the plain text display denotes the selected user setting.

1. Press ‘P’ (Start).

2. Use the arrow keys (▼▲) to select the Function, then press ‘ok’ (Confirm).

3. Use the arrow keys (▼▲ or < >) to select the desired Setting, then press ‘ok’ (Confirm). Use ‘esc’ to Cancel.


How do I set the Standby (Energy saving) mode?

Navigate to ‘Standby’ / ‘Energy saving’ in the settings menu. This mode switches the appliance over to energy-saving mode. You can also set a ‘Timer’ for when the appliance automatically goes into standby (can be preset up to 3 hours).

How do I set the Rinsing function?

Navigate to ‘Rinsing’ in the settings menu. Select ‘On’ or ‘Off’. When ‘On’, the circuit is automatically rinsed when the appliance is switched on. Coffee is prepared using fresh water.

How do I change the display language?

Navigate to ‘Language’ in the settings menu. Select the desired language for the plain text display. Available languages are: German, French, English, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Russian and Turkish.

How do I adjust the display contrast?

Navigate to ‘Contrast’ in the settings menu. Adjust the contrast for the plain text display using the scale (10 to 100).

How do I switch the illumination on or off?

Navigate to ‘Illumination’ in the settings menu. Select ‘On’ or ‘Off’.

How do I set the water hardness level?

Navigate to ‘Water hardness’ in the settings menu. Select the hardness level (1, 2, 3, or 4) based on your water test results. This adjustment affects descaling frequency reminders.

How do I manage the water filter setting?

Navigate to ‘Water filter’ in the settings menu. Select ‘On’ only if you are inserting a water filter for the first time. Select ‘Off’ if not using a filter. Select ‘Reset’ after each filter change. Important: Reset after each change of filter!

How do I adjust the coffee temperature?

Navigate to ‘Temperature’ in the settings menu. Select the desired temperature for preparing coffee: low, medium, or high.

How do I adjust the aroma (amount of ground coffee)?

Navigate to ‘Aroma of espresso’, ‘Aroma of coffee’, or ‘Aroma of large coffee’ in the settings menu. Select Mild, Normal, or Strong for the respective coffee type.

How do I set the Prebrewing function?

Navigate to ‘Prebrewing’ in the settings menu. Select Off, On, or Long. Prebrewing moisturizes the coffee first to bring out the taste. If set to ‘Long’, the coffee is pre-brewed for 4 seconds.

How can I see the total number of coffees made?

Navigate to ‘Total coffees’ in the settings menu. The total number of coffee portions served is displayed.

How do I set the clock and automatic On/Off times?

Navigate to ‘Clock’ in the settings menu.

Automatic On/Off: Select Yes or No to activate/deactivate the automatic switch on/off times.

Clock time: Set the current clock time (XX:XX).

On/Off time: Set the desired switch on time (XX:XX) and switch off time (XX:XX).

Show clock time: Select On or Off to display the clock time.


How do I activate the Rinsing Cycle for degreasing?

Navigate to ‘Rinsing cycle’ in the settings menu. Select ‘Yes’ to start the cycle (for degreasing the brew unit) or ‘No’. See the ‘Rinsing Cycle’ section for full instructions.

How do I restore factory settings?

Navigate to ‘Factory settings’ in the settings menu. Select ‘Yes’ to restore all settings to the factory default settings, or ‘No’.

How do I exit the program mode (User Settings/Programming)?

Navigate to ‘Exit’ in the settings menu and confirm.

How do I prepare Espresso?

Warning: Hot water and steam can scald! Point nozzle at drip tray.

1. Place 1 or 2 cups under the dispensing head. Preheat cups for hotter coffee. For large cups, push the dispensing head up.

2. Optional: Adjust the AromaControl knob (+/-) to set the coffee strength (mild to strong).

3. Press the Espresso key (single cup symbol): press 1x for 1 cup, press 2x for 2 cups. The display shows “1 espresso Dispensing…”.

To adjust the amount: Place a cup under the dispenser head. Press and hold the Espresso key until the desired quantity is reached. The quantity is stored in memory for future use.

Energy Saving: If the machine is in energy saving mode, press the P key to cancel it before preparing coffee.


How do I adjust the grinder setting?

Ensure no coffee beans are in the grinder when changing the setting.

Open the service door to access the grinder setting knob (located near the brew unit).

Adjust the knob towards the smaller dots for a finer grind or towards the larger dots for a coarser grind (settings 2 to 10). Finer grinds generally produce stronger coffee.


How do I prepare Cappuccino?

Note: After starting the steam function, some condensed water will be produced first.

1. Put milk into a suitable vessel. Cold milk froths better. Fill the vessel no more than 1/3 full.

2. Select the desired amount for grinding (Aroma of espresso, coffee, or large coffee) via User Settings if needed.

3. Press the Steam key (steam symbol).

4. Caution: steam spray! Point the nozzle at the drip grill briefly to release condensed water.

5. Immerse the nozzle into the milk and rotate the vessel while frothing.

6. As soon as there is enough froth, press the Steam key again to stop the steam.

7. Remove the vessel.

8. Prepare coffee (e.g., Espresso) and pour it directly into the milk froth.

9. Clean the nozzle immediately: Caution: hot part! Danger of burning! Clean the nozzle immediately after use with a damp cloth.


How do I draw hot water?

Danger: Hot water and steam can scald! Point nozzle at drip tray.

1. Place a cup under the nozzle.

2. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key to start dispensing. The display shows “Hot water Dispensing…”.

3. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key again to stop.


How do I adjust the amount of hot water dispensed?

1. Place a cup under the nozzle.

2. Press and hold the ◊ (Hot water) key. After about 5 seconds, the second line on the display switches to programming mode (“Programm. water”).

3. Release the ◊ key when the desired amount is reached.

How do I use the steam function (for heating drinks)?

Danger: Hot water and steam can scald! Point nozzle at drip tray.

1. Place a cup/vessel under the nozzle.

2. Note: After the steam function starts, some condensed water is produced first. Point the nozzle at the drip tray briefly.

3. Press the Steam key (steam symbol) to start. The display shows “Steam Dispensing..”.

4. Immerse the nozzle in the drink and warm it by rotating the vessel.

5. Press the Steam key again to stop.


How do I adjust the steam duration?

1. Place a suitable container if needed, or point nozzle at drip tray.

2. Press and hold the Steam key. After about 5 seconds, the second line on the display switches to programming mode (“Programm. steam”).

3. Release the Steam key when the desired duration is reached.

4. Press the Steam key briefly to confirm and save the duration.


How often should I perform care and maintenance?

If required, wipe the appliance with a damp cloth. Clean the brewing group and accessories on a weekly basis under flowing water, without detergent. Never wash appliance parts in the dishwasher, and never dry them in the oven or microwave.

How do I clean the water tank and coffee bean hopper?

1. Switch off the appliance.

2. Open the operating panel and remove the water tank and coffee bean hopper.

3. Clean the water tank (including strainers) under running water.

4. Empty and clean the coffee bean hopper.

5. Reinstall the components.


How do I clean the drip tray and dregdrawer?

1. Remove the drip tray assembly (tray, grill, dregdrawer) from the front of the appliance.

2. Separate the components.

3. Empty the dregdrawer and drip tray.

4. Clean the drip tray, drip grill, and dregdrawer under running water.

5. Reassemble and insert back into the appliance.


How do I clean the dispensing head?

1. Push back the dispensing head. Push the drip guard (if present) to the AromaControl position.

2. Remove the drip tray.

3. Open the service door (the push button is behind the cover).

4. Push the top button on the dispensing head holder and pull the dispensing head forwards.

5. Clean the dispensing head under the tap without detergent.

6. Push the dispensing head back onto the holder until it rests in.

7. Close the service door and replace the drip tray.


How do I clean the nozzle?

1. Pull the lower part of the nozzle downwards to remove it.

2. Clean it under the tap without detergent.

3. Reattach the nozzle part.

Note: For cappuccino preparation, clean the nozzle immediately after use with a damp cloth due to heat.


How do I clean the brew unit?

Proceed with care when using the key.

1. Push the drip guard (if present) to the AromaControl position.

2. Remove the drip tray.

3. Open the service door (pushbutton is behind the cover).

4. Press the PUSH button on the brew unit and pull the brew unit forwards to remove it.

5. Use the provided key: insert it into the top strainer, turn anti-clockwise, and remove the top strainer.

6. Clean/dry everything (brew unit and strainer) under running water without detergent.

7. Reassemble the strainer and brew unit in reverse sequence. Do not press PUSH when reassembling.

8. Insert the brew unit back into the appliance until it clicks.

9. Close the service door and replace the drip tray.


How do I descale the appliance?

Descale whenever the plain text display shows “Decalcify” or as required. The process lasts approx. 30 minutes and should not be interrupted by switching off the appliance.

Warning: Under no circumstances use vinegar. Use commercially available descaling agents suitable for this appliance.

Preparation:

1. Remove the water filter (if installed).

2. Use descaler according to manufacturer’s instructions and fill the water tank with at least 1 litre of the solution.

3. Re-insert the water tank.

4. Place a large vessel (min. 1 litre capacity) below the nozzle.

5. Press the Descale key (:::) on the control panel.

Starting Descaling:

6. The display shows “Descaling Yes”. Press the key below “Yes” to confirm.

7. Press the P key to start the descaling process. The display shows “Machine is descaling”.

8. Rinsing occurs at 1-minute intervals until the message “Rinse machine Fill watertank” is displayed.

Rinsing:

9. Remove and rinse the water tank thoroughly.

10. Fill the water tank with fresh water.

11. Re-insert the water tank.

12. The display shows “Rinse machine Press water key”. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key. Rinsing begins.

13. Press the ◊ (Hot water) button to cancel and continue the procedure if needed.

14. The cleaning process is completed when the water tank is empty and “Rinsing finished Press water key” is displayed. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key.

Finishing Descaling:

15. Remove and rinse the water tank thoroughly again.

16. Put back the water filter (if used).

17. Fill the tank with fresh water.

18. Insert the water tank.

19. Place the large vessel under the nozzle again.

20. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key. Ventilating begins.

21. Draw hot water until a steady jet is produced.

22. Press the ◊ (Hot water) key to finish.


How do I perform the Rinsing Cycle (degreasing)?

Perform every 14 days or after 250 cups. Once started, the cycle cannot be interrupted.

Warning: Before starting, empty the drip tray and have a spare vessel handy. Large amounts of water (approx. 8.5 dl) will be produced.

Important: For optimum cleaning, use detergent tablets manufactured by Saeco. Using other products may cause damage.

1. Switch the appliance on.

2. Open the service door, remove the brew unit.

3. Add one detergent tablet to the brew unit.

4. Insert the brew unit back into place and close the service door.

5. Remove, fill, and reinsert the water tank.

6. Place a large vessel below the dispensing head.

7. Press the P key.

8. Navigate using the arrow keys (▼▲) to “Rinsing cycle”.

9. Press the key below the arrow to select “Rinsing cycle”.

10. Confirm by pressing the P key.

11. The display shows “Yes”. Select “Yes” by pressing the key below it (므).

12. Confirm by pressing the P key.

13. Approx. 8.5 dl water is pumped off in approx. 7 minutes.


Troubleshooting: Appliance does not switch on

Turn on the main switch (behind operating panel).

Check power connection.

Check fuse in house wiring system.


Troubleshooting: Coffee is not hot enough

Preheat cups with hot water.

Set brewing temperature correctly (User Settings > Temperature).


Troubleshooting: No hot water or steam produced

Switch off appliance!

Clean nozzle.


Troubleshooting: Heating up takes a long time

Descale appliance.

Troubleshooting: Brew unit cannot be removed for cleaning

Close service door.

Switch on appliance (brew unit is initialised).


Troubleshooting: Brew unit cannot be reinstalled after cleaning

Press PUSH so that the locking/unlocking lever rests in its correct position.

Troubleshooting: Coffee produced is too little, or none is produced at all

Check grinder setting and AromaControl setting.

How should the appliance be disconnected?

Disconnect the appliance from the mains. With a fixed appliance, this is to be carried out by a qualified electrician!

How can I disable the appliance for safety before disposal?

Disable the appliance to prevent accidents caused by improper use, especially through children playing.

Pull the plug out of the mains socket or have the appliance disconnected from the mains by a qualified electrician. Then cut off the mains cable.


How should the appliance be disposed of?

The old appliance should not be discarded as worthless rubbish. If disposed of correctly, the raw materials can be recovered for recycling.

The symbol on the identification plate warns that the appliance may not be disposed of in normal household waste.

The appliance must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations on waste disposal. For more information on handling, disposal and recycling, contact local authorities, local recycling facilities, or the retailer from whom you purchased the appliance.


How should packaging materials be handled?

Where can I find the serial number (FN) and identification plate?

Open the operating panel. The identification plate is situated on the right-hand side, next to the coffee bean hopper. The serial number (FN) and appliance name are on this plate, as well as on the certificate of guarantee and original sales invoice.
