How do I adjust the length of my TCHIBO 664 981 walking poles?

1. Detach the plastic holders from the poles. Keep them for when you need to transport the poles later.

How do I select and use the appropriate tip for my TCHIBO 664 981 walking poles?

You can select between three different types of pole tip profile for your TCHIBO 664 981 walking poles:

Steel tip

The steel tip provides grip, e.g. on rocky terrain.

Rubber buffers

If you are walking on tarmac or a similarly hard surface, we recommend that you put on the rubber buffers. Then simply remove the rubber buffers once the ground becomes softer.

Discs

The discs provided prevent the poles from sinking into very soft ground. Screw the discs onto the plastic element above the tip from underneath. You can always leave the discs on the poles.

Always carry the rubber buffers with you so that you can change them quickly if necessary.

How do I properly wear the hand strap on the TCHIBO 664 981 walking poles?

The hand straps on your TCHIBO 664 981 serve to attach the poles to your hands. The ergonomically formed handles ensure you have a firm hold and that your wrists are in a comfortable position. The hand straps are marked R for right and L for left.

1. Open the hook-and-loop fastener on the strap.

2. Put your hand through the strap so that the R or L mark points upwards and your thumb goes through the thumb hole.

3. Pass the strap once around your wrist and pull it tight. It should provide a good amount of support but not constrict your wrists.

What is the proper technique for walking with the TCHIBO 664 981 walking poles?

• Nordic walking is similar to normal walking, except the movement involves a little more momentum and bigger strides. You should consciously move your arms in the opposite direction to your legs – i.e. the right leg and the left arm go forward, while the left leg and the right arm are stretched backwards. The poles support this movement sequence and provide momentum when you are moving your leg from the back to the front.

• Your upper body should be slightly bent forward, your gaze straight ahead.

• During the movement you should also actively twist your pelvic girdle and shoulder girdle against each other. At the same time, the shoulders remain relaxed. Pull them backwards/downwards during the movement. Don’t tense up! Pull your chest forward/upwards as you do this.

• Never fully extend the front leg; the knee should always remain slightly bent.

• Set down the heel first and then roll your foot forward until you can push off again from the ball of the foot and the toes. To do this, place the parallel pole (left leg = left pole) on the floor under the body’s centre of gravity and push yourself forward.

• The arms are brought forward and back from the shoulder. The swing in the arms automatically transfers to the swing of the steps. In the front position the arm remains bent, stretching backwards: do not fully extend it. Bring your arms close to your body.

• The hands close around the handle when swinging the pole forward and release it when bringing the pole back.

How should I care for and store my TCHIBO 664 981 walking poles?

• If necessary, wipe the poles clean with a damp cloth without using any cleaning agent.

• To avoid rust stains developing, dry wet poles thoroughly before collapsing them.

• Do not store the poles in a location that is exposed to direct sunlight, but rather in a dry indoor room at ambient temperature.

• You can wash the hand straps by hand with a mild detergent as needed.

How do I remove and attach the hand straps on the TCHIBO 664 981 walking poles?

• To release the hand strap, press the button at the top and pull the plastic clip out of the handle.

• To reattach the hand strap, insert the plastic clip back into the handle until you hear and feel it click into place. Make sure that it is the correct way round.
