It is critical to follow all safety instructions to prevent serious injury, death, or property damage. These instructions do not cover all possible situations, and it is important to use common sense, caution, and care.

General Warnings:

• FAILURE TO INSTALL, MAINTAIN, AND/OR OPERATE THIS MACHINE ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER’S INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN CONDITIONS WHICH CAN PRODUCE SERIOUS INJURY, DEATH AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

• To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, serious injury or death, do not operate the tumbler if it does not perform correctly. Immediately disconnect electrical service, shut off the gas supply, and contact an authorized service representative. All service and repairs must be performed by authorized personnel only.

• To avoid creating flammable vapors which may explode or cause damage, DO NOT dry articles that have been in contact with gasoline, dry cleaning solvents, or other flammable/explosive substances. This also includes plastics, foam rubber, articles with traces of cooking oil, flammable chemicals, wax, or fiberglass curtains (unless labeled otherwise).

• To reduce the risk of serious injury, install lockable doors to prevent public access to the rear of the tumblers.

Basic Precautions for Use:

• Read all instructions before using the tumbler.

• DO NOT tamper with controls or bypass any safety devices.

• Always follow the fabric care instructions provided by the garment manufacturer.

• Remove laundry immediately after the tumbler stops.

• DO NOT reach into the tumbler if the cylinder is revolving.

• Do not allow children to play on or in the tumbler. Close supervision is necessary when the tumbler is used near children.

• Before the tumbler is removed from service or discarded, remove the door to the drying compartment.

• Do not install or store the tumbler where it will be exposed to water or weather.

• Always disconnect the electrical power to the tumbler before servicing.

• Solvent gases and vapors from dry cleaning machines create corrosive acids when drawn through the heater. Ensure make-up air is free of these vapors. If dry cleaning machines are in the same area, the tumbler’s make-up air must come from a source free of solvent gases and vapors.

• To reduce the risk of fire and accumulation of combustible gases, DO NOT exhaust tumbler air into a window well, gas vent, chimney, or an enclosed, unventilated area like an attic, wall, ceiling, or crawl space.

The following warning labels can be found on the drying tumbler:

• A clothes dryer produces combustible lint. TUMBLER MUST BE EXHAUSTED OUTDOORS.

• Do not touch rotating parts.

• Do not touch surfaces until they have cooled.

• Do not operate without guards in place.

• Disconnect electrical power before servicing.

• To reduce the risk of accumulating unsafe concentrations of combustion gases, the tumbler MUST BE EXHAUSTED OUTDOORS.

• A general warning label provides the following precautions:

– DO NOT put articles soiled with flammable liquids or cleaning solvents in the dryer.

– DO NOT store or use flammable liquids near this appliance.

– DO NOT spray or store aerosols in the vicinity of this appliance.

– Various chemicals used in laundries contain chlorine. When decomposed in a flame, these materials may rapidly corrode and destroy the appliance.

– The dryer must be exhausted outdoors, and the area around it must be free of lint.

– DO NOT dry articles containing foam rubber, plastic, or similar materials.

– Use for drying water-washed fabrics only.

– DO NOT put articles soiled with vegetable or cooking oil in the dryer, as these oils may not be removed during washing and could cause the fabric to catch fire by itself.

– DO NOT reach into the dryer until all moving parts have stopped.

– DO NOT let children play in the dryer.

Upon delivery, visually inspect the crate, carton, and parts for any visible shipping damage. If there are signs of possible damage, have the carrier note the condition on the shipping papers before signing the receipt, or advise the carrier as soon as it is discovered. A written claim should be filed with the carrier immediately if articles are damaged or missing.

Remove the crate and protective cover and check the items listed on the packing list.

IMPORTANT: Remove the shipping tape from the two back draft dampers located in the exhaust thimble.

The following materials must be obtained locally:

For All Tumblers (Gas, Electric, Steam):

• One circuit breaker.

For Gas Drying Tumblers Only:

• One gas shut-off valve for the gas service line to each tumbler.

For Steam Drying Tumblers Only:

• One steam shut-off gate valve for the steam service line (connected upstream of the solenoid steam valve).

• Two steam shut-off gate valves for each condensate return line.

• Flexible steam hoses with a 125 psig (8.79 kg/sq. cm) working pressure.

• Two steam traps for the steam coil outlet to the condensate return line.

• One steam pressure relief valve rated at 125 psig (8.79 kg/cm²).

Floor: The drying tumbler may be installed on any level floor capable of supporting 100 pounds per square foot (488 kg/m²). Floor covering materials such as carpeting or tile should be removed.

Layout: Whenever possible, the tumbler should be installed along an outside wall where duct length can be kept to a minimum, and make-up air can be easily accessed. Construction must not block airflow at the top rear of the tumbler, as this would prevent an adequate air supply to the combustion chamber.

Venting: For maximum efficiency and minimum lint accumulation, tumbler air must be exhausted to the outdoors by the shortest possible route.

Make-Up Air: A tumbler is a forced-air exhaust appliance and requires provisions for make-up air to replace the exhausted air. The recommended make-up air opening for a 50-pound tumbler is 144 square inches (928 sq. cm). At a minimum, tumblers must have at least 1 sq. inch (2.54 cm²) of opening for every 1000 BTU/hr of input rating. Protective louvers can reduce air movement by approximately 40%, so the opening must compensate for the area taken up by louvers.

Properly sized exhaust ducts are essential for proper operation. All elbows should be sweep-type. Exhaust ducts must be assembled so interior surfaces are smooth to reduce lint accumulation. Do not use sheet metal screws to join vent sections.

• Material: Exhaust ducts shall be constructed of sheet metal or other noncombustible material, equivalent in strength and corrosion resistance to galvanized sheet steel not less than 0.0195 inches (0.495 mm) thick.

• Clearance: Where an exhaust duct pierces a combustible wall or ceiling, an opening with a diameter 4 inches (10.2 cm) larger than the duct diameter shall be provided, with the duct centered. The space around the duct must be sealed with non-combustible material.

• Individual Venting: It is preferred to exhaust tumblers individually. At no point may the cross area of the installed venting be less than the cross area of the tumbler’s exhaust thimble. The maximum allowable length of venting is 14 feet (4.3 m) plus two 90° elbows or equivalent.

• Collector Venting: If a main collector duct is used, it must be sized properly. Individual tumbler ducts must enter the collector duct at a 45° angle in the direction of air flow. Never connect a tumbler duct at a 90° angle. The collector duct must be tapered. The system must be designed so that static back pressure measured 12 inches from the exhaust thimble does not exceed the maximum allowable pressure specified on the installation sticker.

• Airflow Speed: With the tumbler in operation, airflow at any point in the duct must be at least 1200 feet (366 m) per minute to ensure lint remains airborne.

The electrical requirements depend on the specific model configuration. For gas models, consult the tables below. Always use copper wire; DO NOT use aluminum wire.

Non-Reversing Gas & Steam Models (230/50/1):

• Wires Required: L1, L2, Ground to PE Busbar

Reversing Gas & Steam Models:

• 230/50/1: L1, L2, Ground to PE Busbar

• 380-415/50/3: L1, L2, L3, Ground to PE Busbar

Gas and High Pressure Steam Drying Tumblers Wiring and Breaker Sizes:

The drying tumbler must be grounded. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for the electric current. The tumbler must be connected to a grounded metal, permanent wiring system, or an equipment grounding conductor must be run with the circuit conductors and connected to the PE Busbar.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock, check with a qualified serviceman for proper grounding procedures. Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock, if the electrical supply is coming from a three-phase service, DO NOT connect a “Stinger Leg” to a single-phase machine.

WARNING: All electrical connections should be made by a qualified electrician. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, de-energize the electrical circuit before making any connections. Never attempt to connect a live circuit.

Follow these steps to connect electrical service:

1. Install a circuit breaker as close to the tumbler as possible. If installing multiple tumblers, provide a separate circuit breaker for each one.

2. Connect the electrical service:

a. Connect conduit-encased leads to the circuit breaker.

b. Turn “off” the disconnect switch on the tumbler and open the junction box.

c. Insert the conduit-encased leads through a knockout hole in the junction box.

d. Connect the wire leads to the disconnect switch:

• 1 Phase Units: Connect one lead to the top left connection point and the other lead to the top right connection point.

• 3 Phase Units: Connect one lead to each connection point.

e. Connect a ground wire to the PE Busbar in the junction box.

3. For three-phase units only, check the phase sequence:

a. Energize the electrical service and momentarily start the tumbler. Check the direction of cylinder rotation (viewed from the front). If it rotates clockwise, the sequence is correct.

b. If the cylinder rotates counterclockwise, disconnect power and reverse any two leads at the connections.

4. Close the junction box cover and turn “on” the disconnect switch.

Positioning:

The tumbler can be removed from its shipping skid before or after moving to the installation location. To remove from the skid, unscrew the four shipping capscrews (one at each corner). The lint panel door will need to be removed to access the two front capscrews.

NOTE: Do not throw these four capscrews away – they are the leveling legs.

Screw the four leveling legs back into the level adjusting fittings from the top. Slide the tumbler to its permanent location. Keep the tumbler as close to the floor as possible. All four legs must rest firmly on the floor so the weight is evenly distributed and the tumbler does not rock.

Leveling:

Each tumbler should be leveled within 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from front to rear, and 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) from side to side.

• To check the front-to-rear level, rotate the clothes cylinder until one rib is at the bottom, then place a level on that bottom rib.

• To check the side-to-side level, place a level on the front and rear of the top panel.

Gas Requirements:

The size of the gas service pipe depends on many variables (length, tees, etc.). Specific pipe size information should be obtained from your gas supplier. It is important that equal gas pressure is maintained at all tumbler gas connections, which can be achieved by installing a one-inch pipe gas loop.

• Natural Gas: Must be supplied at 6-1/2″ ± 1-1/2″ water column pressure (1.62 ± .37 kPa).

• L.P. Gas: Must be supplied at 11″ ± .3″ water column pressure (2.74 ± .07 kPa). If connected to L.P. gas, a vent to the outdoors must be provided in the room.

Gas Connections:

Before connecting, verify the gas service is the same as specified on the tumbler’s nameplate. If not, do not connect; the gas burner orifice and gas valve must first be converted by authorized personnel.

1. Purge air and sediment from the gas service line before connecting it loosely to the tumbler.

2. Purge the remaining air until the odor of gas is detected, then tighten the connection. Use pipe compound resistant to L.P. gas on all pipe threads.

WARNING: Check all pipe connections, internal and external, for gas leaks using a soapy solution. To reduce the risk of explosion or fire, DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAME TO CHECK FOR GAS LEAKS! Gas connections should be checked annually for leakage.

Pressure Testing:

• The tumbler and its individual shut-off valve must be disconnected from the gas supply piping system during any pressure testing of that system at test pressures in excess of 1/2 psig (3.45 kPa).

• The tumbler must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shut-off valve during any pressure testing at a pressure equal to or less than 1/2 psig (3.45 kPa).

It is important not to block airflow at the top rear of the tumbler, as this provides adequate air supply to the heat chamber. Install tumblers with sufficient clearance for servicing and operating.

• Top Clearance: Clearance of the tumbler cabinet from combustible construction must be a MINIMUM of 12 inches (30.5 cm) at the top.

• Front Clearance: 0″ clearance is permitted for the first 4 inches (10.16 cm) of the cabinet from the front.

• Side Clearance: 0″ clearance is permitted.

• Rear Service Clearance: A minimum of 24 inches (61 cm) is required, with 36 inches (91.4 cm) recommended for maintenance purposes.

To Light the System:

1. Turn the machine disconnect switch, located on the rear of the tumbler, to the “on” position.

2. Turn the gas shut-off valve, also on the rear, to the “on” position (the handle should be parallel with the gas line).

3. Start the tumbler following its operating instructions.

NOTE: The ignition control circuitry will first verify the airflow switch is open. Once the cylinder motor starts, the airflow switch will close. The tumbler will purge air for 18 seconds. Ignition will then start with a three-second release of gas and sparking of the ignitor. If ignition does not occur, the ignition control will “lockout,” closing the gas valve and illuminating a red button on the control.

To Reset After Lockout: Open the access door and press the red button on the ignition control. Close and lock the access door, verify the gas shut-off valve is “on,” and return to step 3.

To Shut Down the System:

If the tumbler will not start, remove it from service by turning the machine disconnect switch to the “off” position and turning the gas shut-off valve to the “off” position (the handle should be at a right angle to the gas line).

1. Remove or open all panels and inspect accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for security.

2. Check belt tension and adjust if necessary (refer to the Adjustment Section).

3. Energize the electrical circuit at the tumbler circuit breaker and turn on the tumbler disconnect switch.

4. Turn on the gas supply at the manual gas shut-off valve in the gas supply line (for gas models only). The handle should be parallel with the gas line in the “ON” position.

5. Press and hold the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. Release the button and open the cylinder door. The cylinder should stop rotating within seven (7) seconds after the door is opened 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm). If it doesn’t stop, adjust the cylinder door interlock.

6. Load the tumbler with clothes or clean rags.

7. Start the tumbler and check the burner flame. Adjust the gas inlet shutter if necessary.

8. Check air flow switch operation by opening the lint panel. The heating system should shut off when the lint panel is opened approximately 1-1/2″ (3.81 cm). Adjust if necessary.

9. Turn off the tumbler.

10. Check air flow switch operation again by opening the lint panel with a full load. The heating systems should shut off when the lint panel is opened approximately 6″ (15.24 cm).

1. Set the temperature selector to HIGH.

2. Insert the required amount of coins.

3. Press and hold the Push-to-Start Button for approximately three (3) seconds. The motor will start and the heat system will turn on.

4. Near the end of the cycle, a preset 2 1/2 minute cool-down cycle will start.

5. When the metered time expires, the motor will stop, indicating the drying cycle is finished.

NOTICE: Both air inlet shutters on the burner must be adjusted for proper combustion. Before adjusting, ensure all lint is removed from the lint compartment and screen. Adjustments vary based on location, vent system, and gas pressure.

1. Unlock and open the access door.

2. Start the tumbler and check the flame pattern. A correct flame is primarily blue with small yellow tips and bends to the right of the heater section. A yellow, lazy, and smoky flame indicates too little air.

3. To adjust, loosen the air inlet shutter adjusting screw.

4. Open or close the air shutter as necessary to obtain the proper flame intensity.

5. After adjusting, tighten the air shutter adjusting screw securely.

6. If the shutter is correctly adjusted but the flame pattern is straight up, it indicates insufficient primary air flowing through the tumbler and an improperly set airflow switch. A flame that flares to the right and left indicates no air is flowing through the tumbler.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, air flow switch operation may be affected by a clogged lint screen, lack of make-up air, or obstructions in the ductwork. These conditions must be checked and corrected before adjusting the switch. Always adjust air flow at installation.

NOTICE: The control panel must be in place and the access door closed before attempting to adjust the air flow switch. The air flow switch disc must remain closed during operation.

The counterweight should be adjusted so that air flow will force the disc away from the cabinet when the lint panel is opened 6 inches (15.24 cm) with a full load.

1. Load the tumbler.

2. Start the tumbler. Open the lint panel 6 inches (15.24 cm). The airflow disc should move away from the cabinet, opening the switch contacts and shutting off the heat system. This indicates proper adjustment.

3. If the switch is not opening as described, it needs to be MORE sensitive. Depress the spring clip and move the counterweight toward the disc. Retest and continue moving the counterweight toward the disc until it operates correctly.

4. If the switch opens BEFORE the lint panel is opened 6 inches, it needs to be LESS sensitive. Depress the spring clip and move the counterweight away from the disc. Retest and continue moving the counterweight away from the disc until it operates correctly.

Loading Door Switch Adjustment:

The loading door switch turns off the tumbler when the door is opened.

1. Start the tumbler following operating instructions.

2. Slowly open the loading door. The cylinder and heating system should stop when the door is open 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm).

3. Slowly close the loading door. The switch should close with an audible “click” when the door is closed 3″ (7.5 cm) plus or minus 1/4″ (0.635 cm).

4. If the switch does not close at the correct point:

a. Close the loading door completely.

b. Loosen the lower screw on the switch coupler and rotate the coupler COUNTERCLOCKWISE until it stops.

c. Tighten the lower screw on the switch coupler.

d. Return to step 1 to verify the adjustment.

Cylinder Door Strike Adjustment:

The door strike must have sufficient tension to hold the door closed against the force of the tumbling load. Proper adjustment is when 8 to 15 pounds (35.6 N – 66.7 N) of pull is required to open the door.

To adjust, open the door, loosen the jamnut, and turn the door strike screw in or out as required. Retighten the jamnut.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, disconnect power to the tumbler before performing this operation.

Proper tension is when the belt can be depressed approximately 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) with light thumb pressure at a point midway between the sheave and motor pulley. The upper poly V-belt is self-adjusting and requires no adjustment.

1. Remove the guard from the rear of the tumbler.

2. To adjust belt tension, loosen the adjusting bolt that holds the idler housing assembly to the housing support.

3. To tighten V-belt:

a. Loosen the lower nut on the adjusting bolt.

b. Turn the bolt up until the belt has proper tension.

c. Tighten the upper and lower nut or adjusting bolt.

4. To loosen V-belt:

a. Loosen the top nut on the adjusting bolt.

b. Turn the bolt down until the belt has proper tension.

c. Tighten the upper and lower nut or adjusting bolt.

5. Replace the guard on the rear of the tumbler.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious injury or death, the guard MUST be installed on the rear of the tumbler after the belt adjustment is made.

1. Make certain the drying cycle has ended.

2. Open the loading door.

3. Unlock and remove the lint panel.

4. Remove accumulated lint in the lint compartment. Lint left in the compartment will be drawn back onto the lint screen and restrict air circulation.

5. Clean lint from the lint screen. If the lint screen is torn, replace it immediately.

6. Ensure the lint screen covers the entire opening in the lint screen hood. Gaps will allow lint to flow into the ductwork.

7. Wipe any accumulated lint off the thermostat sensing probe. Lint buildup on the probe will cause overheating.

8. Replace and securely lock the lint panel.

1. Perform daily cleaning of accumulated lint.

2. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the electrical disconnect switch on the rear of the tumbler.

3. Remove the exhaust duct from the rear of the tumbler and clean out all accumulated lint.

4. Reinstall the exhaust duct.

5. Remove the bottom cover from the vertical exhaust duct and clean out all accumulated lint.

6. Reinstall the vertical exhaust duct cover.

7. Inspect the entire duct work assembly and clean out all accumulated lint.

8. Energize the electrical circuit to the tumbler by turning on the electrical disconnect switch.

Quarterly Maintenance:

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the disconnect switch.

2. Perform daily and monthly cleaning of accumulated lint.

3. Clean accumulated lint and other debris from the front and back motor air vents.

4. Shut off the gas supply at the manual gas shut-off valve (handle should be at a 90° angle to the gas line in the “OFF” position).

5. Remove the screws holding the rear drive guard to the back of the tumbler.

6. Inspect belts for wear and proper tension (refer to the Adjustments section).

7. Reinstall the rear drive guard.

8. Energize the electrical circuit by turning on the disconnect switch.

9. Turn on the gas supply (handle should be parallel with the gas line in the “ON” position).

Biannual Maintenance:

1. Deactivate the electrical circuit by turning off the disconnect switch.

2. Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly lint cleaning.

3. Remove or open all panels and check accessible bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for tightness.

4. Shut off the gas supply (“OFF” position).

5. Unlock and open the service panel and inspect gas connections for evidence of leakage or loose connections. NOTE: Spraying a mild solution of soap and water on joints will cause bubbles to appear on any leaking connections.

6. Close and securely lock the service panel.

7. Open the electrical junction box cover and inspect all electrical and grounding connections for security. Tighten any loose connections.

8. Close the electrical junction box cover and energize the electrical circuit.

9. Turn on the gas supply (“ON” position).

Quarterly Maintenance

Biannual Maintenance

1. Turn off the electrical supply external to the machine.

2. Turn off the electrical disconnect on the machine.

3. Turn off the gas supply external to the machine.

4. Turn off the manual gas shut-off valve on the machine.

5. Turn off the steam supply external to the machine (if applicable).

6. Remove all electric, gas, and steam connections.
