Connect the SONY MDR-1ABT unit and a booted computer using the supplied micro-USB cable. The indicator (red) will light up. Charging is complete in approximately 4 hours, at which point the indicator will automatically turn off.

Please note the following:

• The unit cannot be used while it is charging.

• If charging begins while the unit is powered on, it will automatically turn off.

• If the unit has not been used for a long time, the battery may deplete quickly. However, after a few recharges, the battery life will improve.

• If you plan to store the unit for an extended period, charge the battery once every six months to prevent over-discharge.

• If the usage time of the unit becomes extremely short, the rechargeable battery should be replaced.

• System requirements for battery charge using USB: A personal computer with a USB port and one of the following operating systems: Windows or Mac OS. Not all computers are guaranteed to work for this operation, and it is not supported on custom-built or home-built computers.

• Use only the supplied micro-USB cable for charging.

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology that enables short-range wireless communication between devices. To connect your SONY MDR-1ABT using NFC, follow these steps:

1. Unlock the screen of your smartphone and ensure the NFC function is enabled.

2. Install and start the “NFC Easy Connect” app on your smartphone.

3. The SONY MDR-1ABT unit will turn on automatically. Confirm that the blue indicator is flashing.

4. Touch the smartphone to the N-Mark on the SONY MDR-1ABT. Keep them in contact until the smartphone reacts. Follow the on-screen instructions on your smartphone to complete the pairing and connection.

If the connection fails:

• With the “NFC Easy Connect” app open, move your smartphone slowly over the N-Mark on the unit.

• If your smartphone is in a case, remove it before attempting to connect.

To disconnect, simply touch the smartphone to the unit again. To reconnect with a previously paired smartphone, unlock its screen, enable NFC, and touch it to the unit.

1. Place your BLUETOOTH device within 1 meter of the SONY MDR-1ABT unit.

2. Press and hold the POWER button on the unit for about 7 seconds. After you release the button, check that the indicator flashes blue and red alternately. This indicates it is in pairing mode.

3. On your BLUETOOTH device, perform the pairing procedure to detect the headphones. When the list of detected devices appears on your device’s screen, select “MDR-1ABT”.

4. If a passkey or password is required, enter “0000”.

5. Make the BLUETOOTH connection from your BLUETOOTH device.

The left housing of the SONY MDR-1ABT has a tactile dot for identification. When putting on the headphones, be careful not to come in contact with the touch sensor located on the right housing.

1. Put on the headset.

2. Start playback on your connected BLUETOOTH device. The supported profiles are A2DP and AVRCP.

3. You can operate the headset by touching the touch sensor on the right housing.

Note: The sound quality is set to “Priority on sound quality” mode by default. If the connection is unstable and produces intermittent sound, you can select the “Priority on stable connection” mode.

You can control music and volume using the touch sensor on the right housing of the SONY MDR-1ABT:

Tip: If you hold your finger on the touch sensor after swiping up or down, the volume will continue to change.

To make a call, operate your mobile phone as you normally would. The supported profiles are HSP and HFP.

To receive an incoming call, double-tap the touch sensor lightly (with about a 0.4-second interval).

To end a call, double-tap the touch sensor again.

If you receive a call while listening to music, the music playback will pause and then resume automatically after the call ends. However, with some BLUETOOTH devices, music playback may not resume automatically.

The microphone is omni-directional, so you do not need to worry about its position when you speak.

The volume for a phone call and for listening to music can be adjusted independently.

1. Terminate the BLUETOOTH connection. You can do this by touching the smartphone (if connected via NFC) or by operating the BLUETOOTH device to disconnect.

2. Press and hold the POWER button on the headphones for about 2 seconds. The blue indicator will go off, and the unit will turn off.

Yes, you can use the SONY MDR-1ABT as ordinary wired headphones by connecting the supplied headphone cable.

When using the cable:

• You cannot use the touch sensor. All playback operations (volume, play, pause, etc.) must be performed on the connected playback device.

• Ensure you insert the plug firmly.

• Make sure to connect the L-shaped plug to the playback device.

• You cannot turn the unit on while the cable is connected. The touch sensor and BLUETOOTH functions will be disabled.

• If you connect the headphone cable while the unit is on, it will turn off automatically.

The SONY MDR-1ABT supports BLUETOOTH transfer with four codecs: LDAC, aptX, AAC, and SBC. The unit automatically selects the appropriate codec that is being transmitted from the connected device.

LDAC is an audio coding technology from Sony that allows the transmission of High-Resolution (Hi-Res) Audio content, even over a BLUETOOTH connection.
