What is the intended use of the BOUDECH FY-220S chain saw sharpener?

The BOUDECH FY-220S has been designed exclusively for hobbyists and is not recommended for professional use. The tool is optimized for sharpening chains for hobby use, such as 6.35 mm (1/4″), 9.52 mm (3/8″), and 8.255 mm (0.325″).

It is not recommended to use the tool to sharpen objects other than chains. Only use grinding wheels suitable for this tool.

During use, the chain must be carefully guided by the operator.

What are the potential hazards when using the BOUDECH FY-220S?

Even when used correctly, the BOUDECH FY-220S can expose the operator to certain risks, such as:

• Damage to fingers and/or hands if touching the grinding wheel while in operation.

• Damage caused by sparks.

• Damage caused by inhalation of dust.

• Damage caused by electric current when using unsafe cables and/or sockets.

• Damage caused by electrical components during maintenance.

• Hearing damage caused by using the tool for excessively long periods of time.

What are the key safety instructions for using the BOUDECH FY-220S?

It is extremely important to follow all safety instructions when using the BOUDECH FY-220S:

• Use the tool only for the purpose prescribed in the manual, i.e., for hobby purposes.

• Assemble the tool on a flat surface and avoid using it in uncomfortable positions.

• Always use the implement with extreme care and never in conditions of drowsiness or psychophysical alteration.

• Always wear protective gloves, dust masks, and hearing protection. Avoid wearing loose clothing and jewelry that could get caught in the tool. Tie back long hair.

• Keep the work area tidy. Untidiness may cause accidents.

• Do not use the tool in wet areas or in the rain. Ensure the work area is well lit.

• Never leave the implement in operation if you intend to move away from the work area.

• If the work area is accessible by other people, ensure that there is a safe distance.

• Do not allow minors or persons who are not sufficiently qualified to use the implement.

• Do not modify the mechanics and performance of the implement.

• Do not use grinding wheels that are not suitable for the use for which this implement is designed.

• Replace worn or damaged grinding wheels immediately.

• Make sure before each use that the grinding wheel is installed correctly.

• Switch off the tool and remove the plug before servicing, cleaning, or simply storing the tool.

• It is strictly forbidden to lock the grinding wheel with your hands or with a pressure object. To stop the grinding wheel, switch off the tool.

• Always keep the tool clean, especially from oil and grease, as they may cause sparks and fire.

• Before each use, ensure the tool is not damaged, paying particular attention to the wires, protective sections, and electrical parts.

How do I assemble the BOUDECH FY-220S?

To assemble your BOUDECH FY-220S, follow these steps:

Assembling the rotary table:

1. Place the rotary table on the corresponding support on the tool (Figure A).

2. Secure the screw and nut of the same (Figure B).

Assemble the grinding wheel:

1. Remove the protective shield (Figure J).

2. Remove the grinding wheel top cover (Figure K and L).

3. Unscrew the fixing bolt of the grinding wheel (Figure M).

4. Install the grinding wheel (Figure N).

5. Reassemble all previous parts.

How should I attach the BOUDECH FY-220S sharpener to a work table?

To work in optimal safety situations, you must attach the BOUDECH FY-220S to a work table. Use the 3 fixing points and take special care to leave the fixing pin (Figure B, Part 7) of the rotary cylinder accessible (Figure C).

It is recommended to place a rubber mat (not supplied in the package) under the tool to further reduce noise and vibration. The tool should be attached to non-slippery, well-lit, uneven, and clean surfaces.

The following fixing parts (not included in the package) must be procured:

Position Description
1 Hexagonal screw M8
2 Washer Ø8
3 Self-locking M8 nut

How do I start the BOUDECH FY-220S?

To start the BOUDECH FY-220S:

1. Connect the tool to the power outlet.

2. Press the ‘I’ (ON) button to start the implement.

3. Press ‘O’ (OFF) to turn it off.

Do not use the implement if the start switch seems to be faulty.

How do I use the BOUDECH FY-220S to sharpen chain teeth?

To file the chain teeth with the BOUDECH FY-220S, perform the following operations:

1. Set the protective shield (Figure D, Part 20) using the corresponding knobs (Part 14) and adjusting according to the conditions of use.

2. Set the rotary cylinder at an angle between 30° and 35° (Figure E, Part 7).

3. Release the side fastening pin (Figure F, Part 3b).

4. Position the chain in the guide rails between the 2 plates (Figure G) by pulling the front knob (Part 3a) and set the chain stop (Part 4). Then pull the chain forward until the tooth of the link you want to sharpen remains in front of the chain stop, pointing towards the grinding wheel.

5. Finally, set the sharpening depth using the dedicated knob (Figure G, Part 8).

6. Reset the side retaining pin (Figure H, Part 3b).

7. Proceed to sharpen the cutting tooth link by link.

Note: To prevent the chain from being damaged, sharpen the teeth quickly without dwelling with the grinding wheel on each tooth for extended intervals of time.

If necessary, repeat all the above steps by turning the cylinder 30/35° in the other direction so that the previously inaccessible links can be reached and sharpened.

How do I adjust the distance between the depth gauge and the cutting edge on my chainsaw after sharpening?

Once all the teeth of the chain links are sharpened, the distance between the depth gauge and the cutting edge must be adjusted so that it works properly. On average, this distance should be adjusted to between 0.5 and 0.8mm, but this may vary depending on the chain. Note that if the distance is too high compared to the standard chain, you will encounter the so-called kickback phenomenon. To do this, use a manual file to adjust the kickback distance.

How do I perform maintenance on the BOUDECH FY-220S?

Replacing the grinding wheel:

It is highly inadvisable to work with worn or damaged grinding wheels. Be sure to replace the grinding wheel with one of the same specifications.

1. Loosen the screws on the protective screen and remove it (Figure J, Parts 14 and 20).

2. Remove both nuts from the grinding wheel cover and proceed to remove it (Figure K, Part 21 and Figure L). If necessary, use a screwdriver or chuck.

3. Remove the grinding wheel retaining nut and then the grinding wheel itself (Figure M and N).

4. Replace the grinding wheel and reassemble in the same sequence but in the opposite direction.

General Maintenance:

• It is recommended to clean and lubricate all rotating components regularly.

• Remove dust generated after each use.

• Do not use water or solvents to clean the tool.

• Store the implement in a non-wet place if you plan not to use it for a long time.
