Connect the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset and a booted computer using the micro-USB cable supplied.

While the headset and the computer are connected, charging starts automatically. The red indicator lights up. Charging is completed in about 4 hours and the indicator goes off automatically.

Note:

Use the supplied micro-USB cable. You may not be able to charge the unit with other cables.

The SONY MDR-XB950BT headset can be turned on and used while it is connected to a computer with the micro-USB cable. However, the battery is not charged in this state. If the battery is empty, you can use the headset as a wired headset by connecting the supplied headphone cable.

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology enabling short-range wireless communication between various devices, such as mobile phones and IC tags. Thanks to the NFC function, data communication – for example, BLUETOOTH pairing – can be achieved easily by simply touching NFC-compatible devices together (i.e., at the N-Mark symbol or location designated on each device).

NFC-enabled smartphones with Android 2.3.3 or later installed (excluding Android 3.x) are compatible for a one-touch NFC connection with the SONY MDR-XB950BT.

By touching the SONY MDR-XB950BT with a smartphone, the unit is turned on automatically and then proceeds to pairing and BLUETOOTH connection.

1. Set the NFC function of the smartphone to on. For details, refer to the operating instructions of the smartphone. If your smartphone OS is Android 2.3.3 or later, and less than Android 4.1, you may need to download the app “NFC Easy Connect”.

2. Keep the smartphone screen unlocked.

3. Touch the smartphone on the N-Mark part of the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset. Keep touching the headset with the smartphone until the smartphone reacts.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing and connection.

When the SONY MDR-XB950BT is connected with the smartphone, the blue indicator starts to flash slowly.

To disconnect, touch the smartphone on the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset again. Both the smartphone and headset will disconnect.

1. When the SONY MDR-XB950BT is connected with a smartphone, touch the headset with another smartphone to disconnect the first one.

2. Then, touch the second smartphone again to connect to the headset.

1. Place the BLUETOOTH device within 1 meter of the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset.

2. Enter pairing mode on the headset. With the headset turned off, press and hold the POWER button for about 7 seconds. After the indicator flashes blue, release the button. The indicator flashes red and blue alternately. The headset enters pairing mode.

3. Perform the pairing procedure on the BLUETOOTH device to detect the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset.

4. Select “MDR-XB950BT” shown on the display of the BLUETOOTH device.

5. If a passkey is required on the display of the BLUETOOTH device, input “0000.”

6. Make the BLUETOOTH connection from the BLUETOOTH device.

1. Turn on the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset. Press and hold the POWER button for about 2 seconds. Make sure that the blue indicator flashes after you release the button.

2. Make the BLUETOOTH connection from the BLUETOOTH device. The headset is automatically connected to the last connected device.

1. Put on the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset.

2. Make the BLUETOOTH connection with the device.

3. Operate the BLUETOOTH device to start playback.

You can control playback using the switch on the SONY MDR-XB950BT:

Play/Pause: Press the center of the switch once.

Next track: Push the switch to the + side.

Previous track: Push the switch to the – side.

Fast-forward: Push the switch to the + side and hold.

Fast-reverse: Push the switch to the – side and hold.

Volume up: Push and hold the switch towards +.

Volume down: Push and hold the switch towards -.

The supported BLUETOOTH profiles for the SONY MDR-XB950BT are A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, HSP.

Available functions may vary depending on the BLUETOOTH device. When you operate the switch, refer to the operating instructions of your BLUETOOTH device as well.

The volume of the headset cannot be adjusted when the connected BLUETOOTH device does not support AVRCP.

Depending on the specifications of the BLUETOOTH device, double-pressing the button may have different functions.

When you push and hold the switch toward + or -, the volume changes continuously. When the volume reaches the desired level, release the switch.

To make an outgoing call, operate your mobile phone to make a call. When you make a call, the ring tone is heard through the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset.

To receive an incoming call, press the button on the headset when you hear a ring tone.

To terminate a call, press the button on the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset again.

Note: Your mobile phone must support profile HFP or HSP. Some devices may not connect automatically with the unit. If this is the case, operate the device to connect. If music is playing when a call comes in, playback pauses and a ring tone is heard from the unit. Music playback resumes after the call ends.

The Electro Bass Booster function enhances the low frequency of the music. To use it, press the BASS BOOST button on the SONY MDR-XB950BT headset. The red indicator next to the button will light up when the function is on. Press the button again to turn the function off.
