To identify your left and right PHONAK VIRTO M30-312 hearing aids, look for a red or blue marking. The color mark is located on the battery door, on the shell (text printed in red or blue), or the shell itself is colored red or blue.

Blue marking: indicates the left hearing aid.

Red marking: indicates the right hearing aid.

The Phonak Virto M-312 model includes the following parts:

The battery door on your PHONAK VIRTO M30-312 also functions as the on/off switch.

To turn ON: Close the battery door completely. When you switch on the hearing aid, you may hear a start-up melody.

To turn OFF: Open the battery door.

Follow these steps to change the battery:

Step 1. Remove the sticker from the new battery and wait two minutes.

Step 2. Open the battery door on your hearing aid.

Step 3. Place the new battery in the battery door with the “+” symbol facing upwards.

If it is difficult to close the battery door, check that the battery is inserted correctly with the “+” symbol facing up. If it is not inserted correctly, the hearing aid will not work and the door can be damaged.

When the battery is low, you will hear two beeps. You will have approximately 30 minutes to change the battery, although this can vary depending on your hearing aid settings and the battery itself. It is recommended to always have a new battery on hand.

Your PHONAK VIRTO M30-312 requires zinc-air batteries. You can identify the correct battery size (312 or 10) by checking the marking on the inner side of the battery door or by referring to the table below.

Take your hearing aid up to your ear and place the ear canal part into your ear canal.

Hold the removal handle and carefully pull the hearing aid up and out of the ear.

Step 1. Put your thumb behind your lobe and gently press your ear upward to push the hearing aid out of the canal. To help it along, make chewing movements with your jaw.

Step 2. Grasp the protruding hearing aid and remove it.

For models with this option, the push button can have various functions or may not be active. This depends on the programming of the hearing aid, which is indicated in your individual “Hearing aid instructions”.

For the Virto M-312 model, if your hearing aid is paired with a Bluetooth enabled phone, the push button can be used for calls:

• A short press will accept an incoming call.

• A long press will reject an incoming call.

For models with this option, you can adjust the volume as follows:

• To increase the volume, turn the volume control forwards (towards your nose).

• To decrease the volume, turn the volume control backwards (towards the back of your head).

The volume control can be disabled by your hearing care professional.

You only need to perform the pairing procedure once with each Bluetooth device. After the initial pairing, your hearing aids will connect automatically. This can take up to 2 minutes.

Step 1. On your device (e.g., a phone), ensure that Bluetooth is enabled and search for Bluetooth enabled devices in the connectivity settings menu.

Step 2. Switch on both hearing aids. You now have 3 minutes to pair them with your device.

Step 3. Select the hearing aid in the list of Bluetooth enabled devices. This will pair both hearing aids simultaneously. A beep confirms successful pairing.

After your hearing aids have been paired to your device, they will automatically connect again when switched on. The connection will be maintained as long as the device remains ON and within range.

Your hearing aids can be paired to up to two devices, but can be connected to only one device at a time.

When your Phonak Virto M-312 hearing aids are paired and connected to your phone, you can make calls. Simply enter the phone number on your phone and press the dial button. You will hear the ring tone through your hearing aids. Your hearing aids pick up your voice through their own microphones, and you will hear the caller’s voice directly in your hearing aids.

When receiving a call, a calling notification will be heard in the hearing aids. The call can be accepted by a short press (less than 2 seconds) on the push button on the hearing aid, or directly on your phone.

A call can be ended by a long press (more than 2 seconds) on the push button on the hearing aid, or directly on your phone.

An incoming call can be rejected by a long press (more than 2 seconds) on the push button on the hearing aid, or directly on your phone.

Entering flight mode will disable the Bluetooth connectivity functions but will not disable normal hearing aid functionality. Your hearing aids operate between 2.4 GHz-2.48 GHz frequency range. When flying, some operators require all devices to be switched into flight mode.

To enter flight mode in each hearing aid:

Step 1. Open the battery door.

Step 2. Hold down the push button on the hearing aid for 7 seconds while closing the battery door.

In flight mode, your hearing aid cannot connect directly to your phone.

To enable the wireless function and exit flight mode in each hearing aid:

Step 1. Open the battery door.

Step 2. Close the battery door again.

Diligent and routine care contributes to outstanding performance and a long service life.

General Information: Before using hair spray or applying cosmetics, you should remove your hearing aid from your ear, because these products may damage it.

Daily Care: Daily cleaning and the use of a drying system is highly recommended. Never use household cleaning products (washing powder, soap, etc.) to clean your hearing aids. If your hearing aid is performing weakly or fails to operate, clean or replace the wax guard system. If it still fails to operate after cleaning and inserting a new battery, contact your hearing care professional.

Please be aware of the following hazard warnings:

• The intended use of hearing aids is to amplify and transmit sound to the ears and hereby compensate for impaired hearing. They must only be used by the intended person and should not be used by any other person as they could damage hearing.

• Changes or modifications to the hearing aid that were not explicitly approved are not permitted. Such changes may damage your ear or the hearing aid.

• Do not use the hearing aids in explosive areas (mines or industrial areas with danger of explosions, oxygen-rich environments or areas where flammable anesthetics are handled).

• Hearing aid batteries are toxic if swallowed. Keep out of the reach of children, individuals with cognitive impairment, and pets. If batteries are swallowed, consult your physician immediately.

• If you feel pain in or behind your ear, if it is inflamed or if skin irritation and accelerated accumulations of earwax occur, please check with your hearing care professional or physician.

• This hearing aid is not for children below 36 months. The hearing aid is a small device and contains small parts. Do not leave children and individuals with cognitive impairment unsupervised with this hearing aid. If swallowed, consult a physician or hospital immediately.

• Avoid strong physical impacts to the ear when wearing in-the-ear hearing aids. A strong physical impact (e.g. during sports) may cause the in-the-ear shell to break, which may lead to perforation of the ear canal or ear drum.

• After mechanical stress or shock to the hearing aid, please ensure that the hearing aid shell is intact before placing it in the ear.

Please follow these safety guidelines:

• Never immerse your hearing aid in water. Protect it from excessive moisture. Always remove your hearing aid before showering, bathing, or swimming.

• Protect your hearing aid from heat (never leave near a window or in the car). Never use a microwave or other heating devices to dry your hearing aid.

• When not in use, leave the battery door open so that any moisture can evaporate. Store the hearing aid in a safe, dry and clean place.

• Do not drop your hearing aid. Dropping it onto a hard surface can cause damage.

• Always use new batteries. If a battery is leaking, replace it immediately to avoid skin irritation.

• The batteries used should not exceed 1.5 Volts. Do not use silver-zinc or Li-ion rechargeable batteries as they may cause severe damage.

• Remove the battery if you are not using your hearing aid for a long period of time.

• Remove your hearing aids before undergoing medical or dental examinations with X-ray, CT scans, MRI/NMRI scans, as these may adversely affect the correct functioning of your hearing aids.

• Do not use your hearing aid in areas where electronic equipment is prohibited.
