The MEIJI TECHNO 5530D microscope stand and accessories are packed in separate styrofoam containers. Follow these steps for unpacking and initial assembly:

Unpacking:

1. Remove the microscope stand from its container and place it on a solid bench.

2. Check the contents against the packing list before discarding any boxes or packing materials.

Initial Assembly Steps:

1. Install Bulb: Mount the bulb in the bulbholder by pushing and twisting 1/4 turn clockwise.

2. Mount Transmitted Illuminator: Insert the illuminator into the mounting ring at the rear of the base with the screw and filter holders uppermost. Clamp it in place with the clamp screw.

3. Mount Oblique Illuminator: Insert a bulb. Remove the Clamp Ring from the microscope body by turning it counterclockwise. Place the Ring arm of the Oblique illuminator over the fine focusing knob and clamp it in place using the clamp ring. Plug in the illuminator. The oblique illuminator can be mounted on either side.

4. Mount Vertical Illuminator: Insert a bulb. Remove the dust cap from the top of the microscope body and loosen the knurled Lock ring. Plug in and insert the vertical illuminator into the microscope body, and clamp it with the knurled Lock ring.

5. Mount Main Tube: Screw the Main tube into the microscope body.

6. Insert Eyepiece: Insert the Eyepiece into the Main tube. Adjust the direction of the reticle so the dotted crosslines are horizontal and vertical, then lock it with the Lock ring. Focus the reticle sharply by turning the upper part of the eyepiece.

7. Mount Objectives: Mount the objective(s) on the objective nosepiece. On models with a revolving nosepiece, mount the objectives starting with the lowest magnification and increasing magnification as the nosepiece is turned counterclockwise.

8. Prepare Stage: Remove the metal transit rods by loosening the clamp screws. Be careful as the stage is spring-loaded. Place the Stage glass in the recess of the stage. Mount the Stage clips by inserting their pins into the holes on the rotatable stage.

9. Install Micrometer Head: Install the Digital micrometer head by inserting its stem into the mounting bracket and clamping it in place. Do not over-tighten the clamp screw.

Caution: Before plugging the mains cord into an outlet, ensure that the voltage selector on the rear of the microscope stand is set to your supply voltage.

The light controls for the MEIJI TECHNO 5530D are located on the front panel of the base. The functions are as follows:

1. Power switch: Main power ON/OFF.

2. Switch for Oblique illuminator, left: Activates the left oblique illuminator.

3. Switch for Vertical illuminator: Activates the vertical illuminator.

4. Intensity control for oblique illuminator: Adjusts the brightness of the oblique illuminators.

5. Intensity control for Vertical/Transmitted illuminator: Adjusts the brightness of the vertical or transmitted illuminators.

6. Switch for Oblique illuminator, right: Activates the right oblique illuminator.

7. Switch for Transmitted illuminator: Activates the transmitted illuminator.

All switches are 3-step, with a neutral point in the middle position. It is suggested to control light intensity within 8V. Centering adjustment of the lamp filament can be done with the two centering screws on the illuminator.

Different bulbs are used for different illuminators on the MEIJI TECHNO 5530D:

MA357: 8V, 12W frosted bulb is used for the Transmitted illuminator.

MA358: 8V, 12W clear bulb is used for the Vertical and Oblique illuminators.

Select the illumination method on your MEIJI TECHNO 5530D based on the specimen:

Vertical Illuminator: For observing a specimen with high reflectivity. Set the illuminator by turning the beam-splitter knob to align the ‘Ph’ mark with the white dot on the body.

Transmitted Illuminator: Use this to examine a specimen of low light reflection, to measure inclined surfaces, to measure the diameter or pitch of holes and rod diameters, or when observing transparent specimens.

To focus the MEIJI TECHNO 5530D on a specimen, follow these steps:

a. Place a specimen on the stage under the stage clips. If the stage clips are not required, remove them by pulling them upward.

b. Focus the objective on the specimen by rotating the large coarse focusing knob until the image of the specimen is bright and clear. Then, turn the Locking-lever to lock the microscope body.

c. Bring the specimen into sharper focus by using the fine adjustment knob.

Note: The working distance for the 10X objective is 6.6mm.

To perform X and Y axis measurements with your MEIJI TECHNO 5530D, follow this procedure:

a. Rotate the stage so that the movement of the specimen coincides with the horizontal line of the eyepiece reticle.

b. Using the micrometer head, move the stage to bring the starting point of the measurement under the center of the crossline reticule. Read the graduation on the Micrometer.

c. Move the stage to bring the end point of the measurement under the center of the crossline reticule. Read the graduation again.

The difference between the readings in steps b and c is the dimension of the object being measured.

d. For operation of the Digital micrometer head, please refer to the manual supplied with that specific instruction.

The Digital indicator is used for measuring height and depth on the MEIJI TECHNO 5530D. Follow these steps:

a. Attach the extension rod to the Stem of the digital indicator before inserting it into the microscope.

b. Insert the Digital indicator into the gauge tube on the top of the microscope body and clamp it with the knurled lock ring.

c. Focus the objective sharply on the highest point of the specimen to be measured and follow the instruction manual of the Digital indicator for measurement of height.

To connect a TV camera to your MEIJI TECHNO 5530D, you must use the MA580 TV Camera Adapter. If vertical illumination is required, the MA581 vertical illuminator adapter must also be used.

Setup with MA580 TV Camera Adapter:

a. Remove the Vertical illuminator and insert the MA580 TV Camera Adapter in its place.

b. Remove the C-mount from the top of the MA580 Adapter and thread it into the CK3800 TV Camera.

Setup with Vertical Illumination (using MA581 adapter):

c-1. Remove the objective and thread the reflector unit of the MA581 into the nosepiece.

c-2. Adjust the direction of the reflector unit to the correct position by loosening the four set screws.

c-3. Attach the illuminator housing to the reflector unit with the filter holders facing upward, and tighten the screws.

d. To direct all light to the TV camera, turn the beam-splitter knob so that the ‘Op’ mark coincides with the white dot on the microscope body.

To produce a crossline on the TV screen, the MA151/30 1X Crossline Mount is used. Follow these steps:

a. Remove the upper half of the MA580 TV Camera Adapter and mount the MA151/30 Crossline mount in its place.

b. If the crossline is not horizontal on the TV screen, it can be adjusted by rotating the tube of the MA151/30 mount.

To set up for large format photography with the PMX100 camera, follow this procedure:

a. Remove the Vertical illuminator from the top of the microscope body.

b. Mount the MA582 Camera Adapter on the microscope body by inserting it in place of the vertical illuminator.

c. Mount the Camera on the MA582 Camera adapter and tighten the Clamp screw.

For detailed camera operation, refer to the Instruction Manual for the PMX100 Large Format Photomicrographic Camera.

The EX-1 Exposure meter is available to use with the PMX100 camera. To operate it:

a. Connect the EX-1 Exposure meter to the PMX100 by inserting the light sensor of the EX-1 into the opening of the PMX100. Turn the switch of the EX-1 on.

b. Set the film speed number.

c. Read the speed on the Display of the EX-1, set the camera shutter at the same speed, and release the cable release to complete the exposure.

For photomicrography with a 35mm SLR Camera body, the MA150/60 Camera attachment, a Photo eyepiece, and a T2 Adapter are required. Follow these steps:

a. Insert a photo eyepiece, either MA512 2.5x or MA508 5x, into the MA582 Camera Adapter.

b. Mount the MA150/60 Camera attachment on the MA582 Camera adapter and tighten the clamp screw.

c. Mount the T2 adapter that matches your 35mm SLR Camera body on the MA150/60 attachment and attach the 35mm SLR Camera body to it.

d. Focus the objective on the specimen by looking through the Finder eyepiece of the MA150/60 Attachment.

Proper care will ensure the longevity of your MEIJI TECHNO 5530D:

Always cover the instrument with the provided plastic dust cover when the microscope is not in use.

Keep the eyepiece in the microscope body at all times to prevent dust from falling on the internal optics.

Store the microscope in a safe, clean, and dry place when not in use for an extended period of time.

Follow these guidelines for cleaning your MEIJI TECHNO 5530D:

Lenses: Clean exposed lens surfaces carefully with a pressurized air source, a soft brush, or a clean soft cloth. Too much finger pressure may damage lens coatings. To remove oil, fingerprints, and grease smudges, moisten the cleaning cloth with a very small amount of alcohol.

Body/Surfaces: Painted or plastic surfaces should be cleaned only with a cloth moistened with water and a small amount of detergent.

Important: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE INTERNAL OPTICS OR MECHANISMS. If the microscope does not seem to be functioning properly or you have questions about its operation, call your supplier (or an authorized repair service) for advice.

To change the operating voltage on the MT5500 series, including the MEIJI TECHNO 5530D, follow these steps:

1. Unscrew the fuse holder and remove the fuse.

2. Remove the larger diameter ring labeled “voltage selector” by pulling it away from the microscope. You will see contact pins and voltage markings (e.g., 110V, 120V, 220V, 240V).

3. The ring has a notch cut out for voltage selection. Reinsert the ring so the notch aligns with your desired voltage, making it visible.

4. Install a power cord with the correct pin pattern for your region.
