Please adhere to the following safety guidelines when using your KOGAN KAESCOFFGRA coffee machine:

• Read all instructions and retain the user guide for future use.

• Ensure the electrical outlet voltage corresponds to the rated voltage marked on the rating plate.

• This appliance has a grounded plug. Ensure the electrical outlet in your house is earthed. Consult a certified electrician if you have questions about grounding.

• Do not immerse the power cord or plug in water or other liquids.

• Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.

• Unplug the appliance before cleaning and when not in use. Always turn the switch off first and hold the plug; never pull the cord.

• If the cord or plug is damaged, cease use immediately.

• Do not operate the appliance if it malfunctions, is dropped, or damaged.

• Do not use any attachments not included with the appliance, as this may result in fire, electric shock, or injury.

• Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface. Do not hang the power cord over the edge of a table or counter.

• Ensure the power cord does not touch hot surfaces.

• Do not place the appliance on or near open flames or other heat sources.

• Use the appliance only for its intended purpose.

• Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used near children.

• Do not operate the appliance without water.

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities unless supervised.

• Supervise children to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

• The appliance is intended for household and similar environments. Do not use it outdoors.

Warning: Pressure

• Do not remove the water tank or portafilter while the appliance is operating. Steam and hot water can cause burns.

• Ensure the appliance is in standby mode when removing the water tank or portafilter.

• To add water, turn the appliance off by pressing the power button. The four indicators will turn off.

• When extracting coffee, ensure the portafilter is in the specified position to prevent it from loosening under pressure.

High Temperature

• Do not touch or place hands or other body parts in the portafilter or near the steam tube during operation to avoid burns.

• Only move the steam tube by touching the silicone sleeve.

• Use caution with the steam tube, as the steam can reach very high temperatures.

• Do not touch hot surfaces like the steam tube and steel mesh. Always use handles or knobs.

• Do not remove the filter while the appliance is brewing or making steam.

• Allow the appliance to cool down completely before attaching components or cleaning.

1. Ensure all components are included and not damaged.

2. Fill the water tank with clean water, not exceeding the ‘MAX’ mark.

3. Insert a single or double-cup filter into the portafilter. Align the portafilter (without coffee) and rotate it anti-clockwise to lock it in place.

4. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet and press the power button. The machine will preheat and then enter standby mode.

5. Align the steam tube towards the drip tray. Turn the knob to the ‘Hot water’ or ‘Steam’ indicator to flush water or steam through.

6. Press the ‘Single’ or ‘Double’ button to clean the pipes. Hot water will come out of the portafilter. Use the drip tray or a cup to collect the water.

7. When the water stops flowing, dispose of the water from the drip tray or cup.

8. Thoroughly clean all detachable parts of the coffee machine with warm water.

• The coffee should be freshly ground and deep roasted. French or espresso roasted coffee is recommended.

• It is not recommended to use pre-ground coffee. Freshly ground coffee beans maintain their aroma and create higher quality coffee.

• Pre-ground coffee will only keep for 7 to 8 days unless stored in a sealed container in a cool place. Do not store coffee in the refrigerator or freezer.

1. Insert the cutter head into the coffee machine and tighten it clockwise.

2. Place the hopper on top of the cutter head.

3. Align the hopper with the grooves in the coffee machine. Press the hopper down and rotate it clockwise to install it.

• Adjust the grinding degree on the hopper according to the type and quality of your coffee beans. There are markings on the hopper to indicate the size, from Coarse (30) to Fine (0).

• For freshly roasted coffee beans (up to 1 month), set the grinder between 5 and 10.

• Ground coffee should look like salt.

• If the grounds are too fine, coffee may flow intermittently.

• If the grounds are too coarse, water will flow through too quickly, affecting aroma and taste.

• To achieve your preferred grind size, ensure the setting on the hopper is aligned with the correct marking.

• Do not overfill the hopper to prevent beans from getting wet.

Preheat Mode:

• Press the power button to turn the machine on and enter preheat mode.

• The power indicator will flash slowly as the machine preheats.

Standby Mode:

• After preheating, the machine enters standby mode.

• The power, grind, single cup, double cup, and hot water indicators will illuminate solidly. The machine is ready to use.

Sleep Mode:

• The machine automatically enters sleep mode after 20 minutes without user input.

• Press the power button again to activate the machine, which will start preheating.

1. Ensure the hopper is installed correctly. The grind indicator will be solid when ready. If it’s flashing, the hopper is not installed correctly.

2. Add coffee beans to the hopper. Do not overfill.

3. Place the portafilter with a single or double cup filter into the portafilter bracket.

4. Press the ‘Grind’ button once for a single cup and twice for a double cup. Grinding stops automatically (9 seconds for single, 13 seconds for double).

5. Remove the portafilter and gently tap it on a benchtop to distribute the grounds evenly.

6. Use the tamper to apply a force of approximately 12.5kg to tamp the coffee.

7. Align the portafilter to the coffee outlet and turn it anti-clockwise to lock it.

8. Place a coffee cup on the cup holder.

9. Press the ‘Single’ or ‘Double’ button to brew. The machine dispenses about 30ml for a single and 60ml for a double cup, then stops and enters standby mode.

Notes:

• If the grinding function cannot be used, the grind indicator will flash white and beep three times.

• If the grinder works continuously for 3 minutes, it will stop. Wait 6 minutes before pressing the ‘Grind’ button again.

• It is recommended to preheat the machine before extracting coffee.

• If using pre-ground coffee, use 13g for a single cup and 18g for a double cup.

1. Place a cup under the steam tube.

2. Turn the knob to ‘Hot water’. The hot water indicator will flash, and hot water will flow from the steam nozzle.

3. Turn the knob back to the centre to stop the flow. The hot water indicator will turn solid, and the machine will enter standby mode.

Notes:

• The maximum output of hot water is ≥170ml.

• Use a container large enough to collect all the water.

• Always supervise the machine when hot water is running.

• Always turn the knob back to the centre after use. If not, steam and hot water indicators will flash rapidly, an alarm will sound, and coffee cannot be brewed.

• If the power, grind, single cup and double cup indicators flash rapidly, the water level is low. Refill the water tank.

1. Fill the milk pitcher with 100ml of milk for a cappuccino or 150ml for a latte. Place the pitcher under the steam tube.

2. Turn the knob to ‘Steam’. The steam indicator will illuminate while preheating. When ready, the indicator will flash, and steam will be released.

3. Tilt the pitcher and position the steam tube so the end is 1cm under the surface of the milk.

4. When the milk has foamed to your liking, turn the knob back to the centre.

Notes:

• The steam will be hot. Handle the steam tube with care.

• For best results, let the steam run for 3-5 seconds before frothing. Turn the knob to the centre, extend the steam tube into the milk, then turn the knob back to ‘Steam’.

• The maximum milk-frothing time is 5 minutes. If the knob is not returned to the centre after 5 minutes, the steam indicator will flash, and the machine will stop operating.

Adjust Grind Time:

1. Ensure the hopper is installed and filled with beans.

2. To adjust the single cup grind amount, press and hold the ‘Grind’ button until the indicator flashes and the grinder starts.

3. Release the ‘Grind’ button when the desired amount is reached. A buzzer will sound, and the machine will save the new time. The grind time can be set between 4-18 seconds.

Adjust Coffee Amount:

1. Ensure there is enough water in the tank.

2. Press and hold the ‘Single’ or ‘Double’ button until the indicator stays solid and coffee starts dispensing.

3. Release the button when the desired amount is dispensed. A buzzer will sound for 1 second, and the machine will save the new amount. The maximum is 125ml for a single cup and 250ml for a double cup.

Adjust Standby Time:

1. Press and hold the ‘Grind’ and ‘Single’ buttons at the same time. The power indicator will flash, and the indicator for the last used standby time will be solid (Grind: 10 mins, Single: 20 mins, Double: 29 mins).

2. Press one of the following buttons to set the new time: ‘Grind’ for 10 minutes, ‘Single’ for 20 minutes, or ‘Double’ for 29 minutes.

3. Press the ‘Power’ button to save the new setting. A buzzer will sound, and the machine will return to standby mode.

Restore Factory Coffee Amount (Single Cup):

1. Press and hold the power button and the ‘Single’ button. The single cup indicator will flash twice, and other indicators will turn off.

2. A buzzer will sound for approximately 1 second when restored, and the machine will enter standby mode.

Restore Factory Coffee Amount (Double Cup):

1. Press and hold the power button and the ‘Double’ button. The double cup indicator will flash twice, and other indicators will turn off.

2. A buzzer will sound for approximately 1 second when restored, and the machine will enter standby mode.

Restore All Factory Settings (including grinding time):

• Press and hold the ‘Power’ button and ‘Grind’ button at the same time.

• All indicators will flash twice, and the buzzer will sound when factory settings are restored.

General Cleaning:

• Unplug the coffee machine and allow it to cool down before cleaning.

• After each use, clean all detachable parts, like the portafilter, with water and detergent if necessary.

• Ensure all parts are rinsed with clean water and dried thoroughly before use.

• Clean the external surface with a moisture-proof sponge.

• Do not use alcohol or detergent to clean the coffee machine.

• Do not immerse the coffee machine in water. The water tank is not dishwasher safe.

Cleaning the Grinder:

Clean the coffee-dispensing channel and grinding wheel at least every two weeks, or when you notice a reduction in dispensed coffee, very fine grinding, or coffee spilling from the portafilter.

1. Rotate the hopper anti-clockwise to remove it.

2. Turn the grinding wheel anti-clockwise to remove it. Use the provided cleaning brush to clean the wheel and remove residual grounds. Do not rinse the grinding wheel with water.

3. Use the cleaning brush to clean the grinding chamber and coffee-dispensing channel.

4. Do not install the grinding wheel yet. Re-install the empty hopper, press the ‘Grind’ button, and run the grinder to clear out powder residue.

5. If powder remains, repeat steps 3 and 4.

6. Remove the hopper and install the grinding wheel.

Note: Ensure there are no coffee beans in the hopper when cleaning the grinder.

It is recommended to descale the machine every 4-6 months. The single cup, double cup, steam, and hot water indicators will flash when the machine needs descaling.

Before Descaling:

• Ensure there is at least 1L of water in the water tank.

• Empty and re-install the drip tray.

• Turn on the machine and place it in standby mode.

• Place the double cup filter into the portafilter and lock it into the coffee outlet.

Descaling Solution: Use one of the following:

• Coffee machine descaling tablets (dissolved in water).

• Half a cup of liquid descaler mixed with 1L of warm water.

• 1.5 spoonsful of white vinegar mixed with 1L of warm water.

Descaling Process:

1. Preparation: Add the chosen solution to the water tank and insert it. Place a 1L container under the coffee outlet and another 1L container under the steam tube.

2. Start Program: In standby mode, press and hold the ‘Grind’, ‘Single’, and ‘Double’ buttons for 5 seconds. The power indicator will flash, hot water and steam indicators will be solid, and cup indicators will turn off.

3. Turn the knob to ‘Steam’. The steam indicator will flash, and the pump will dispense hot water from the coffee outlet and steam tube.

4. When dispensing stops, the power indicator flashes slowly, and the steam and hot water indicators flash rapidly.

5. Turn the knob back to the centre. The steam and hot water indicators will illuminate solidly.

6. Clean Up: Allow up to 5 minutes to clean the water tank, refill it with fresh water, and empty the containers.

7. Finish Program: Turn the knob to ‘Hot water’. The hot water indicator will flash, and the pump will dispense fresh water to rinse the system.

8. When dispensing stops, the power and hot water indicators will flash, while the power and grind indicators will be solid. The cup indicators will be off.

9. Turn the knob back to the centre. The descaling program will end, and the machine will return to standby mode.

Water Shortage Reminder:

• When the water tank is low, the power, grind, single cup, and double cup indicators will flash, and the buzzer will sound 5 times.

• This reminder also occurs if the coffee grounds are too fine and the machine cannot brew.

• If there is no operation for one minute after the reminder, the machine enters standby mode.

Descaling Reminder:

• The single cup, double cup, steam, and hot water indicators will flash when the machine needs descaling.

The toolbox is located in the lower-left corner of the coffee machine, accessible by removing the drip tray. It stores the cleaning tools and filters.

• Cleaning Pins: The machine has two pins. The thicker pin is for cleaning the steam tube, and the thinner one is for cleaning the filters.

• Cleaning Brush: The main brush is for cleaning the grinding system, including the grinding chamber and coffee-dispensing channel. The other end of the brush can be used to remove the filter from the portafilter.

After grinding the coffee into the portafilter, tamp the coffee grounds downwards. When the correct amount of coffee grounds is in the portafilter and properly tamped, the edge of the tamper will align with the edge of the portafilter.

This is likely due to no power. Ensure the power plug is properly connected to the electrical outlet and that the power button has been pressed.

The grind indicator flashes when the hopper is not installed correctly. Please ensure the hopper is properly installed.

This can happen if the water tank or drip tray is not installed correctly, or if the drip tray is full. Install the water tank and drip tray correctly and ensure the drip tray is empty.

This sound is normal and is produced by the operation of the pressure control valve releasing pressure.

This can be caused by an excessive amount of coffee grounds in the portafilter, or the coffee grounds being too fine. The amount of ground coffee should not exceed the standard. Adjust the grind time and coffee amount. The ground coffee should not be tamped repeatedly with excessive force.

This could be due to several reasons:

• The coffee beans are damp, or the coffee grounds are too coarse. Use fresh coffee beans and grounds with a moderate grind size.

• The coffee machine is not preheated. Always preheat the coffee machine before brewing.

The steam nozzle is likely blocked. The coffee machine may need to be descaled. Use the cleaning pin to clean the steam nozzle.

After steaming, the pressure and temperature inside the machine are high. The machine needs to release this pressure and cool down. The water-pumping operation you observe is for cooling the heating element. It takes 20-30 seconds for this process. After the machine has cooled down, it will operate normally.

This indicates that the machine requires descaling. Please follow the instructions in the ‘Descaling’ section to descale the machine.
