Electrical energy can perform many useful functions. This unit has been engineered and manufactured to assure your personal safety. But IMPROPER USE CAN RESULT IN POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL SHOCK OR FIRE HAZARD. In order not to defeat the safeguards incorporated into this product, observe the following basic rules for its installation, use and service. Please read these “Important Safeguards” carefully before use.

• All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated.

• Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

• Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer as they may be hazardous.

• Do not use this product near water. Do not use immediately after moving from a low temperature to high temperature, as this causes condensation, which may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards.

• Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the product. The product should be mounted according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a mount recommended by the manufacturer.

• When the product is used on a cart, care should be taken to avoid quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces which may cause the product and cart to overturn, damaging equipment or causing possible injury to the operator.

• Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation. These ensure reliable operation of the product and protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered.

• For proper ventilation, separate the product from other equipment, which may prevent ventilation and keep distance more than 10 cm (3 15/16 inches).

• This product should be operated only with the type of power source indicated on the label.

• This product is equipped with a three-wire plug. This plug will fit only into a grounded power outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounded plug.

• Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them.

• For added protection, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the cable system during a lightning storm or when it is left unattended for long periods.

• Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or convenience receptacles on other equipment.

• Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings and never spill liquid of any kind on the product.

• Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer all service to qualified service personnel.

• Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer service to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:

a) When the power supply cord or plug is damaged.

b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen on the product.

c) If the product has been exposed to rain or water.

d) If the product operated normally by following the operating instructions.

e) If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.

f) When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.

• When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used parts specified by the manufacturer.

• Upon completion of any service or repairs, ask the service technician to perform safety checks.

• The product should be placed more than 30 cm (11 15/16 inches) away from heat sources.

• When connecting other products such as VCR’s and personal computers, you should turn off the power of this product.

• Do not place combustibles behind the cooling fan.

• Use only the accessory cord designed for this product to prevent shock.

1. Remote signal transmission window: Transmits the signal to the monitor.

2. DISPLAY button: Displays the input terminal, color system, scan system, and horizontal/vertical frequency. Pressing again makes the display disappear.

3. VIDEO A, VIDEO B, COMPO. and RGB buttons: Use these buttons to switch between inputs. Note: For GD-V4200PCE and GD-V4200PCE-G, only RGB input is available by default. Other inputs require the optional video interface kit.

4. MUTING button: Turns off the volume immediately. Pressing again resumes the previous volume level.

5. MULTIPLE MONITOR ADJUSTMENT buttons: Use these buttons to set IDs, etc. when a serial connection is made.

6. MENU/EXIT button: Displays or erases menus. When a sub-menu is displayed, it moves back to the preceding menu.

7. Remote control cable jack: Connect the remote control cable for wired remote control operation.

8. ASPECT button: Switches between aspect ratios (REGULAR -> FULL -> ZOOM -> PANORAMIC).

9. POWER button: Turns the monitor on or off.

10. VOLUME + / – buttons: Adjust the volume level. Note: Sound is not reproduced on GD-V4200PCE and GD-V4200PCE-G models without the optional video interface kit.

11. Arrow buttons (up/down/left/right): Use these buttons to select menu items or make adjustments.

Front View:

1. Remote sensor/power lamp: Receives signals from the remote control. The lamp is green when the monitor is on and red in standby mode.

2. Self-diagnostic lamps: These lamps light/flash if an abnormality occurs.

3. Up/Down Arrow buttons: Select menu items and make adjustments. When no menu is displayed, they adjust the volume level.

4. MENU button: Displays or erases menus. Moves back one screen when a sub-menu is displayed.

5. INPUT button: Switches between inputs. Note: On some models, an optional interface kit is required to use VIDEO A, VIDEO B, and COMPONENT inputs.

6. POWER button: Turns the monitor on and off.

Rear View:

1. RS-232C CONTROL Input terminal (D-sub, 9-pin): Connects to a personal computer for control.

2. AC INPUT terminal: Connects the supplied power cord.

3. MAIN POWER switch: Setting this switch to ON puts the monitor into standby mode.

4. REMOTE CONTROL terminals (mini jack): IN jack for connecting a wired remote or for serial connection from another monitor. OUT jack for connecting to the next monitor in a serial connection.

5. SPEAKER OUT terminals: Connects to external speakers.

6. INTERNAL/EXTERNAL speaker selecting switch: Selects between built-in and external speakers.

7. VIDEO A terminals: Includes Y/C (S-video) input, Video input (BNC), Video output (BNC), and Audio input (pin jack).

8. VIDEO B terminals: Includes Y/C (S-video) input, Video input (BNC), Video output (pin jack), and Audio input (pin jack).

9. COMPONENT input terminals: Includes Y, PB/B-Y, PR/R-Y input terminals (BNC) and Audio input terminals (pin jack).

10. RGB input terminals: Includes PC input (D-sub, 15-pin) and Audio input terminals (pin jack).

The following accessories are included with the Monitor. If any item is missing, please contact the dealer where you purchased the Monitor.

• Power cord (approx. 2.5 m) x 3 (Use the one matching the wall outlet.)

• Batteries (AA/R6P) x 2

If the remote control has become erratic in operation, change the batteries.

1. Remove the back cover. While pushing the release lever on the cover, remove the cover in the direction of the arrow.

2. Place the batteries. Put the two supplied batteries (AA/R6P), noting the (+) and (-) markings, as shown.

3. Replace the back cover as illustrated. Make sure the release lever on the cover is locked in place correctly.

Precautions for using batteries:

• Do not mix old and new batteries.

• Do not mix different types of battery.

• Place the batteries according to the polarity markings.

• When installing, insert the (-) end first to avoid a short circuit.

• Use only the specified batteries.

• Remove the batteries if the remote will not be used for a long time.

• Replace dead batteries immediately to prevent liquid leakage.

• Do not throw batteries into fire or try recharging them.

• When mounting the Monitor vertically, adjust the cooling fan speed to provide better heat dissipation (see page 23).

• Be sure to use a dedicated Stand Unit, Wall Mounting Unit, or Monitor Hanger Unit. Ask your dealer for installation.

• Refer to the user manual for each mounting option. Do not tilt the Monitor rightward, leftward, or backward.

• Route power and connection cables along walls or floors to avoid being walked on.

• For good heat dissipation, leave the recommended minimum space around the Monitor (e.g., 200 mm on sides for stand, 100 mm on sides for wall mount).

• The ambient temperature of the installation place should be between 0°C to 40°C.

• If installing near a ceiling, the remote control may not work correctly. If this happens, use the wired remote control or move the monitor.

• To prevent overturning, take appropriate measures, especially in case of events like earthquakes.

• Do not display the same image continuously for a long time to avoid screen afterimage. Use the White Back function to reduce this effect.

• The Monitor is manufactured with high-precision technology allowing over 99.99% active pixels; however, a slight number of pixels may be deficient or lit at all times.

• Do not install the Monitor where it and other AV equipment affect each other adversely (e.g., disturbed image, noise, remote control malfunctions).

Video Signals:

• VIDEO A and VIDEO B terminals: Accept PAL, NTSC, and SECAM signals.

• COMPONENT terminals: Accept 480i, 576i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i signals.

(Note: For some models, an optional video interface kit is required for these inputs).

1. Turn on the main power. Set the MAIN POWER switch on the back of the monitor to ON. The power lamp on the front will glow red.

2. Turn on the power. Press the POWER button on the remote control or the monitor. The power lamp will turn green.

3. Select an input. Press the corresponding input button (VIDEO A, VIDEO B, COMPO., or RGB) on the remote or the INPUT button on the monitor to cycle through inputs.

4. Adjust the volume. Use the VOLUME +/- buttons on the remote control or the up/down arrow buttons on the monitor (when no menu is displayed).

To turn off the volume immediately (Mute):

Press the MUTING button. “MUTING ON” is displayed. Pressing it again restores the volume.

To make the screen indication appear:

Press the DISPLAY button. The input and signal type will be shown. Press it again to make it disappear.

You can select from three types of wide screens (FULL, ZOOM, and PANORAMIC) in addition to the conventional 4:3 REGULAR screen.

Using the Remote Control Button:

Press the ASPECT button on the remote control to cycle through the screen sizes: REGULAR -> FULL -> ZOOM -> PANORAMIC.

• REGULAR: Displays at a conventional 4:3 aspect ratio.

• FULL: The 4:3 display is enlarged horizontally.

• ZOOM: The 4:3 display is enlarged vertically and horizontally at the same ratio.

• PANORAMIC: The 4:3 display is enlarged horizontally to the extent that the picture does not look abnormal.

Using the Menu:

1. Press MENU/EXIT to display the Main Menu.

2. Use the arrow buttons to move the cursor to “FUNCTION SELECT” and press the right arrow.

3. Move the cursor to “ASPECT.”

4. Press the up/down arrow buttons to select the aspect ratio you want.

5. Press MENU/EXIT three times to exit.

Note: The aspect ratio may be fixed for certain input signals (e.g., fixed to FULL for 1080i or 720p signals).

Adjusted settings are stored for each signal type. This adjustment is for RGB input only.

1. Press MENU/EXIT to display the Main Menu.

2. Move the cursor to “SIZE/POSITION ADJ.” and press the right arrow.

3. The Size/Position Adjustment Menu will appear. Use the up/down arrow buttons to move the cursor to the item you want to adjust.

4. Use the left/right arrow buttons to make the adjustment.

5. To reset adjustments, move the cursor to “reset” and press the right arrow, then confirm.

6. Press MENU/EXIT twice to exit.

Picture quality can be set for each input mode.

1. Press MENU/EXIT to display the Main Menu.

2. Move the cursor to “PICTURE ADJ.” and press the right arrow.

3. The Picture Adjustment Menu will appear. Use the up/down arrow buttons to move the cursor to the item you want to adjust.

4. Use the left/right arrow buttons to make the adjustment.

5. To reset adjustments, move the cursor to “reset” and press the right arrow, then confirm.

6. Press MENU/EXIT twice to exit.

Adjusting Color Temperature:

1. Press MENU/EXIT to display the Main Menu.

2. Move the cursor to “FUNCTION SELECT” and press the right arrow.

3. Move the cursor to “COLOR TEMP.”

4. Press the left/right arrow buttons to alternate between “HIGH” (bluish) and “LOW” (reddish).

5. Press MENU/EXIT twice to exit.

Adjusting White Balance (Fine Adjustment):

This allows for fine adjustment of G GAIN, B GAIN, and R GAIN for both HIGH and LOW color temperature settings.

1. Access the Setup Menu:

• On the remote: Press MENU/EXIT while holding VOLUME –.

• On the monitor: Press MENU while holding the down arrow button.

2. Move the cursor to “WHITE BALANCE” and press the right arrow.

3. The White Balance Adjustment Menu appears. Select G GAIN, B GAIN, or R GAIN.

4. Use the left/right arrow buttons to adjust the selected item.

5. Repeat for other items if needed.

6. Press MENU/EXIT multiple times to exit the menus.

Normally, select “AUTO.” A common setting will apply to VIDEO A and B, and a different setting to COMPONENT.

1. Press MENU/EXIT to display the Main Menu.

2. Move the cursor to “FUNCTION SELECT” and press the right arrow.

3. Move the cursor to “SIGNAL MODE.”

4. Press the left/right arrow buttons to select the signal type.

• When VIDEO A or VIDEO B input is selected: AUTO <-> NTSC <-> PAL <-> SECAM

• When COMPONENT input is selected: AUTO <-> 480i <-> 576i <-> 1080i <-> 720p <-> 480p

5. Press MENU/EXIT twice to exit.

To access the Setup Menu, press MENU/EXIT while holding VOLUME – on the remote, or press MENU while holding the down arrow button on the monitor.

• Confirming the Use Time (HOUR METER): Navigate to “HOUR METER” in the Setup Menu to see the hours of use (value displayed x 100).

• Setting the Power Saving Function (POWER SAVE): Navigate to “POWER SAVE” and select the number of minutes (1 to 5, or OFF) before the monitor enters standby mode if no signal is received.

• Prohibiting the Monitor’s Button Operations (CONTROL LOCK): Navigate to “CONTROL LOCK” and set it to “ON” to disable the buttons on the monitor. Remote control operations are still possible.

• Reducing the Afterimage Effect (WHITE BACK): Navigate to “WHITE BACK” and set it to “ON”. The monitor will display a white screen, which can help reduce afterimages. Set to “OFF” to cancel.

• Showing the On-screen Display When Changing Input Mode (STATUS DISPLAY): Navigate to “STATUS DISPLAY” and set to “ON” to automatically show the input and signal type when the input is changed.

• Using the Screen Saver Function (SCREEN SAVER): Navigate to “SCREEN SAVER” and set to “ON” to help prevent screen burn-in.

• Mounting the Monitor Vertically (VENTILATION MODE): If the monitor is mounted vertically, navigate to “VENTILATION MODE” and select “V” to adjust the fan speed for better heat dissipation. “H” is for horizontal mounting.

• Resetting All the Setup Menu Settings (all reset): Navigate to “all reset,” press the right arrow, and confirm to reset all Setup Menu settings to their defaults.

Connecting the Remote Control Cables:

Connect the monitors in a chain. Connect the REMOTE CONTROL OUT terminal of the first monitor (Master) to the REMOTE CONTROL IN terminal of the second monitor (Slave). Continue this for all monitors. Connect the wired remote control to the REMOTE CONTROL IN terminal of the Master Monitor.

Assigning ID Numbers (for individual operation):

1. Turn on all connected monitors.

2. Press the MODE button on the remote. “MASTER” will appear on the first monitor, and “[00]” will appear on all Slave monitors.

3. Press the ID SET button. The Slave monitors will be assigned sequential ID numbers: [01], [02], [03], etc.

Operating Monitors Simultaneously:

1. Make sure no ID numbers are shown on the screens. If they are, press MODE to erase them.

2. Use the remote control to perform operations (e.g., open the menu, adjust settings). The commands will apply to all connected monitors simultaneously.

Operating Monitors Individually:

1. Press MODE to display the ID numbers on all monitors.

2. Press the ID +/- buttons to select the monitor you want to operate. The ID number of the selected monitor will be highlighted.

3. Perform any desired operations. The commands will apply only to the selected monitor.

When something abnormal occurs with the monitor, the screen may turn off and the self-diagnostic lamps next to the power lamp may light or flash in red. If this happens, follow this procedure:

1. Check which lamps are lighting or flashing. Note whether the Upper, Middle, or Lower lamp is steady on (“Lights”) or flashing (“Flashes”).

2. Turn off the MAIN POWER switch on the back of the Monitor.

3. Unplug the power cord.

4. Call your dealer and tell them which lamps are lighting or flashing. You can use the following table to report the condition.
