2. DANGER: Invisible laser radiation when open and interlock failed or defeated. Avoid direct exposure to beam.
3. CAUTION: Do not open the top cover. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Leave all servicing to qualified service personnel.
4. CAUTION: This CD player uses invisible laser radiation, however, is equipped with safety switches to prevent radiation emission when unloading CDs. It is dangerous to defeat the safety switches.

How do I reset the unit?
Press the reset button on the front panel using a ball-point pen or a similar tool. This will reset the built-in microcomputer.
NOTE: Your preset adjustments, such as preset channels or sound adjustments, will also be erased.
What are some general safety tips for operating the receiver?
For safety:
• Do not raise the volume level too much, as this will block outside sounds, making driving dangerous.
• Stop the car before performing any complicated operations.
Temperature inside the car:
If you have parked the car for a long time in hot or cold weather, wait until the temperature in the car becomes normal before operating the unit.
How do I activate or deactivate the display demonstration?
To activate:
While holding DISP, press the up arrow until “DEMO” appears on the lower part of the display. Various functions and display illumination modes will be demonstrated repeatedly. “DEMO” will flash on the display.
To deactivate:
To turn off the display demonstration, press the up arrow again for a few seconds while holding DISP.
The display demonstration will turn off automatically after 1 hour.
How do I use the number buttons for different functions?
After pressing MODE, the number buttons work as different function buttons (while “MODE” remains on the display).
To use these buttons as number buttons after pressing MODE, wait for 5 seconds without pressing any number button so that “MODE” disappears from the display.
Pressing MODE again also erases “MODE” from the display.
How do I perform basic operations like turning the unit on/off and selecting a source?
1. Turn on the power:
Press the OFF/▲ button. The display illuminates and the control panel comes out.
2. Select the source:
Press the SOURCE (ATT) button. Each time you press it, the source changes as follows: Tuner (FM or AM) → CD → CD changer → External component → (back to the beginning).
Notes:
• If a CD is not in the loading slot, you cannot select CD as the source to play.
• Without connecting the CD changer, you cannot select it as the source to play.
3. Adjust the volume:
Press the + or – buttons to adjust the volume level.
To drop the volume in a moment (Attenuate):
Press SOURCE (ATT) for more than 1 second. “ATT” starts flashing, and the volume drops. To resume the previous volume level, press the button for more than 1 second again.
To turn off the power:
Press and hold OFF/▲ until “SEE YOU” appears on the display.
How do I search for a radio station automatically?
1. Press SOURCE (ATT) to select the tuner as the source.
2. Press BAND to select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM).
3. Press the up or down arrow buttons to start searching for a station. Searching stops when a station is received. To stop searching before a station is received, press the same arrow button again.
How do I tune in only strong FM stations?
This function works only while searching FM stations.
1. Press MODE. “MODE” appears on the display.
2. Press LOCAL (number button 3) while “MODE” is still on the display. The LOCAL indicator will light up. Each time you press the button, the LOCAL indicator lights up and goes off alternately. When LOCAL is on, the unit will only tune in to stations with strong signals.
How do I search for a radio station manually?
1. Select the tuner source and desired band (FM1, FM2, FM3, or AM).
2. Press and hold the up or down arrow button until “M” (Manual) starts flashing on the display.
3. While “M” is flashing, press the up or down arrow buttons to tune into the station you want. If you release your finger from the button, the manual mode will automatically turn off after 5 seconds.
What should I do if an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive?
1. Press MODE while listening to an FM stereo broadcast (when the ST indicator is lit).
2. Press MONO (number button 2) while “MODE” is still on the display. The MO indicator will light up. The sound will become monaural, but reception will be improved. Each time you press the button, the MO indicator lights up and goes off alternately.
How do I automatically preset strong FM stations (SSM)?
You can preset 6 local FM stations in each FM band (FM1, FM2, and FM3).
1. Press SOURCE (ATT) to select the tuner, then press BAND to select the FM band number (FM1, FM2, or FM3) you want to store stations into.
2. Press and hold both MODE and SSM/DISP buttons for more than 2 seconds. “SSM” appears on the display.
Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the number buttons 1 (lowest frequency) to 6 (highest frequency). When the automatic preset is over, the station stored in number button 1 will be automatically tuned in.
How do I manually preset a radio station?
You can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3, and AM).
1. Select the desired band.
2. Tune into the station you want to store.
3. Press and hold the number button (1-6) you want to assign the station to for more than 2 seconds. The preset number and “MEMO” will appear on the display.
4. Repeat the procedure to store other stations.
Notes:
• A previously preset station is erased when a new station is stored in the same preset number.
• Preset stations are erased if the power supply to the memory circuit is interrupted.
How do I tune into a preset station?
1. Press SOURCE (ATT) to select the tuner as the source.
2. Press BAND to select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM).
3. Press the number button (1-6) for the preset station you want to listen to.
How do I play a CD?
1. Press OFF/▲ to open the loading slot. The display panel moves down.
2. Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit draws the CD in, the display panel moves up, and CD play starts automatically.
Notes:
• If a CD is already in the loading slot, selecting “CD” as the source will start playback.
• If a CD is inserted upside down, “DISC EJECT” appears, and the CD is automatically ejected.
• If you change the source, CD play stops without ejecting the disc.
How do I stop CD playback and eject the disc?
Press OFF/▲ briefly. CD play stops, the display panel moves down, and the CD is automatically ejected.
To move the display panel back up, press the up or down arrow buttons.
CAUTION: NEVER insert your finger between the display panel and the unit, as it may get caught.
Note: If an ejected disc is not removed for about 15 seconds, it will be automatically re-inserted to protect it from dust (playback will not start).
How do I view CD Text information?
While playing a CD Text, press the DISP button repeatedly. The display will cycle through the following information:
Disc Title / Performer → Track Title → Current track no. and Elapsed playing time
Notes:
• The display shows up to 12 characters at one time and scrolls if there are more.
• If you press DISP while playing a conventional CD, “NO NAME” appears for the disc/track titles.
How do I navigate tracks on a CD?
To fast-forward or reverse the track:
Press and hold the up arrow to fast-forward. Press and hold the down arrow to reverse.
To go to the next or previous tracks:
Press the up arrow briefly to go to the beginning of the next track.
Press the down arrow briefly to go back to the beginning of the current track. Press it again to go to the beginning of previous tracks.
To go to a particular track directly:
• To select a track number from 1-6: Press the corresponding number button (1-6) briefly.
• To select a track number from 7-12: Press and hold the corresponding number button (1-6) for more than 1 second (e.g., hold ‘1’ for track 7, ‘2’ for track 8, etc.).
How do I use Random Play (Shuffle) for a CD?
1. Press MODE while playing a CD.
2. Press RND (Random), which is number button 6, while “MODE” is still on the display. The RND indicator lights up, and tracks will be played back in a random order.
Press the RND button again to turn off random play.
How do I use Repeat Play for a CD?
1. Press MODE while playing a CD.
2. Press RPT (Repeat), which is number button 5, while “MODE” is still on the display. The RPT indicator lights up, and the current track will be played repeatedly.
Press the RPT button again to turn off repeat play.
How do I use Intro Scan for a CD?
This function plays the first 15 seconds of each track sequentially.
1. Press MODE while playing a CD.
2. Press INT (Intro), which is number button 4, while “MODE” is still on the display. “INTRO” appears on the display for 5 seconds, and the track number flashes.
Press the INT button again to turn off intro scan.
How can I prohibit a CD from being ejected?
To prohibit ejection:
While pressing SOURCE (ATT), press and hold OFF/▲ for more than 2 seconds. “NO EJECT” flashes on the display for about 5 seconds, and the CD is locked and cannot be ejected.
To cancel the prohibition:
While pressing SOURCE (ATT), press and hold OFF/▲ for more than 2 seconds again. “EJECT OK” flashes on the display for about 5 seconds, and the CD is unlocked.
How do I adjust the sound settings?
1. Press the SEL button repeatedly to cycle through the adjustable items: BAS (bass) → TRE (treble) → FADER → BALANCE → WOOFER → VOLUME.
2. When the desired item is displayed, press the + or – buttons to adjust its level.
The ranges for each setting are as follows:

How do I use the BBE function?
The BBE function restores brilliance and clarity to sound. Press the BBE button repeatedly to cycle through the settings:
BBE 1 → BBE 2 → BBE 3 → BBE OFF
As the number gets higher, the BBE function becomes stronger. When shipped from the factory, the setting is “BBE 2.” To cancel the function, select “BBE OFF.”
How do I use the Sound Control Memory (SCM) to store sound modes for different sources?
Once you select a sound mode, it is stored in memory and will be recalled every time you select the same source (FM1, FM2, FM3, AM, CD, external). This is called Advanced SCM. To use the same sound mode for all sources, see “To cancel Advanced SCM.”
Selecting and Storing a Sound Mode:
1. Press MODE. “MODE” appears on the display.
2. Within 5 seconds, press the SCM button (number 1) repeatedly to select a sound mode. The mode changes as follows: BEAT → SOFT → POP → OFF.
The selected sound mode is stored for the current source.

You can adjust the BEAT, SOFT, and POP modes and store your own adjustments.
REMEMBER: You must finish the following steps while “MODE” is still on the display. Otherwise, the setting will be canceled.
1. Press MODE to light “MODE” on the display.
2. Press the SCM button (number 1) to select the sound mode you want to adjust (BEAT, SOFT, or POP).
3. Adjust the bass, treble, and BBE settings to your preference:
• To adjust bass or treble: Press SEL to select “BAS” or “TRE”, then use + / – to adjust the level.
• To turn BBE on or off: Press the BBE button.
4. Press and hold the SCM button (number 1) until the sound mode you have selected flashes on the display. Your custom adjustment is now stored in memory.

Repeat the same procedure as “Storing your own sound adjustments” and reassign the preset values listed in the sound mode table (BEAT: Bass +02, Treble 00, BBE 2, etc.).

1. Press and hold SEL for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the display.
2. Set the hour: Press the up/down arrow buttons to select “CLOCK HOUR” if not shown. Then press + or – to adjust the hour.
3. Set the minute: Press the up/down arrow buttons to select “CLOCK MINUTE”. Then press + or – to adjust the minute.
4. Press SEL to finish the setting.
To check the current clock time while the unit is turned off, press + or -. The power turns on, the clock time is shown for 5 seconds, then the power turns off.
How do I use Audio Cruise to control the volume automatically?
This unit can change the volume level automatically based on the driving speed. The factory setting is “CRUISE OFF.”
• CRUISE 1: For a relatively quiet car.
• CRUISE 2: For a relatively loud car. The volume increase rate is twice that of CRUISE 1.
• CRUISE OFF: Cancels Audio Cruise.
To set the mode:
1. Press and hold SEL for more than 2 seconds.
2. Press the up/down arrow buttons to select “CRUISE MODE.”

To use one sound mode for all sources (Conventional SCM), you need to change the SCM LINK setting in the PSM menu.
• SCM LINK ON: Advanced SCM (different sound modes for different sources – factory setting).
• SCM LINK OFF: Conventional SCM (one sound mode for all sources).
How do I change the clock display setting?
In the PSM menu, you can set whether the clock is shown when the unit is turned on.
• CLK DISP ON: Clock display is turned on (factory setting).
• CLK DISP OFF: Clock display is turned off. The current sound mode setting will be shown on the upper part of the display instead.
How do I select the level meter display style?
In the PSM menu, select LEVEL METER and choose your preference. The factory setting is “NORMAL.”

• BEEP ON: Activates the key-touch tone (factory setting).

In the PSM menu, select CONTRAST. You can adjust the level from 01 (dark) to 10 (bright). The factory setting is level 05.
How do I select the text scroll mode?
For disc information longer than 12 characters, you can set how it scrolls. In the PSM menu, select SCROLL MODE.
• SCROLL ONCE: Scrolls only once (factory setting).
• SCROLL AUTO: Repeats the scroll (in 5-second intervals).
• SCROLL OFF: Cancels Auto Scroll. (Note: You can still scroll manually by pressing DISP for more than 1 second).
How do I select the subwoofer cutoff frequency?
When a subwoofer is connected, select the appropriate cutoff frequency in the PSM menu under WOOFER FREQ.
• FREQ LOW: Frequencies higher than 50 Hz are cut off.
• FREQ MID: Frequencies higher than 80 Hz are cut off (factory setting).
• FREQ HIGH: Frequencies higher than 120 Hz are cut off.
How do I change the AM/FM channel intervals for different regions?
In the PSM menu, select AREA CHANGE.
• AREA US: For use in North or South America. (10 kHz for AM and 200 kHz for FM – factory setting).
• AREA EU: For use in other areas. (9 kHz for AM and 50 kHz/100 kHz for FM).
Note: Changing this setting will erase names assigned to stations.
How do I adjust the line input level?
When an external component is connected, adjust its input level to prevent sudden volume changes when switching sources. In the PSM menu, select LINE ADJ and adjust from 00 to 05. The factory setting is 00.
How do I make the front panel look flat (hide the control panel)?
This feature is useful when operating mainly with the remote control. In the PSM menu, select FLAT PANEL.
• FLAT ON: The control panel will not come out when you turn on the unit. To use the control panel, press the down arrow. It will automatically go back in after about 10 seconds of no operation.
• FLAT OFF: The control panel operates normally (factory setting).
Note: When “FLAT ON” is selected, you can eject a CD by holding the down arrow.
How do I assign names to sources (stations, CDs, external component)?
You can assign names that will appear on the display when the source is selected. (Note: You cannot assign a name to a CD Text.)
• Station frequencies: up to 12 characters (for up to 30 stations).
• CDs: up to 32 characters (for up to 40 discs).
• External component: up to 12 characters.
Procedure:
1. Select the source you want to assign a name to.
2. Press and hold SEL for more than 2 seconds while also pressing DISP.
3. While the cursor “” is flashing, press DISP to select the character set: Capital letter (A) → Small letter (a) → Numbers and symbols (#).
4. Press + or – to select a character.
5. Press the up/down arrow buttons to move the cursor to the next or previous position.
6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 to finish inputting the name.
7. Press SEL while the last selected character is flashing to store the name in memory.
How do I install the battery in the remote controller?
When the controllable range or effectiveness of the remote decreases, replace the battery (Lithium coin battery CR2025).
1. Push out the battery holder in the direction indicated by the arrow on the back, using a ballpoint pen or similar tool.
2. Place the battery into the holder with the + side facing upwards.
3. Return the battery holder until you hear a clicking sound.
WARNING: Store batteries where children cannot reach them. Do not recharge, short, disassemble, heat, or dispose of batteries in a fire. Insulate batteries when storing or disposing of them.
How do I use the remote controller?
Aim the remote directly at the remote sensor on the main unit.
• (Power/ATT) button: Press briefly to turn on or attenuate volume. Press and hold to turn off.
• ▲ / ▼ (DISC/PRESET) buttons:
– In Tuner mode: Functions as the PRESET button to cycle through preset stations.
– In CD Changer mode: Functions as DISC + / – buttons to change discs.

Playing CDs:
Press the SOURCE (ATT) button repeatedly to select the CD changer. Playback starts from the first track of the first disc.
Navigating Discs and Tracks:
• Fast-forward/reverse track: Press and hold the up/down arrow buttons.
• Go to next/previous track: Press the up/down arrow buttons briefly.
• Go to a particular disc: Use the number buttons (1-6 for discs 1-6; press and hold 1-6 for discs 7-12).
Playback Modes:
Press MODE, then use the RPT (5) or RND (6) buttons to select playback modes.
• Random Play: RANDOM1 (all tracks of current disc), RANDOM2 (all tracks of all discs).

How do I play an external component or use a subwoofer?
Playing an External Component:
1. Connect your external component to the LINE IN plugs on the rear of the unit.
2. Press the SOURCE (ATT) button repeatedly until the external component is selected as the source.
3. Operate the external component itself to play.
Using a Subwoofer:
Connect a subwoofer to the SUBWOOFER OUT plugs on the rear. You can then adjust the subwoofer cutoff frequency and output volume in the unit’s sound settings.
How should I handle and maintain my CDs?
How to handle CDs:
• When removing a CD from its case, press down the center holder and lift the CD out by its edges. Always hold the CD by the edges and do not touch the recording surface.
• When storing, gently insert the CD around the center holder with the printed side facing up.
To keep CDs clean:
If a CD gets dirty, wipe it with a soft cloth in a straight line from the center to the edge. Do not use solvents like record cleaner, spray, thinner, or benzine.
To play new CDs:
New CDs may have rough spots on the edges. To remove them, rub the edges with a pencil or ball-point pen.
CAUTIONS:
• Do not insert 8cm (3 3/16″) CDs or CDs with unusual shapes.
• Do not expose CDs to direct sunlight, heat, or high humidity.
Can I play CD-R and CD-RW discs?
• You can play back “finalized” CD-R (Recordable) discs.
• CD-RWs (Rewritable) cannot be played back on this receiver.
• Do not use CD-Rs with stickers or labels on the surface, as they may cause malfunctions.
• Playback may fail due to disc characteristics, scratches, or dirt on the disc or the player’s lens.
Why can’t a CD be played back?

This can be caused by driving on rough roads, or the CD being scratched. Stop CD play on rough roads or change the CD.

The volume level may be set to the minimum level, or connections may be incorrect. Adjust the volume to an optimal level and check the cords and connections.
Why doesn’t the SSM (automatic preset) function work?
The radio signals are too weak. Store stations manually.
Why is there static noise while listening to the radio?
The antenna is not connected firmly. Connect the antenna firmly.
Why does “NO DISC” appear on the display?
There is no CD in the magazine of the CD changer. Insert a CD.
Why does “RESET 8” or “RESET 1-RESET 7” appear on the display?
This indicates the unit is not connected to a CD changer correctly. Connect this unit and the CD changer correctly and press the reset button of the CD changer.
Why does “EJECT ERROR” appear and the CD cannot be ejected?
The CD player may be functioning incorrectly. Press and hold the “-” of the +/- button for more than 5 seconds.
The CD cannot be ejected, but no message appears on the display. What should I do?
While holding the up arrow button, press the reset button. Release the reset button, then release the up arrow button. Be careful not to drop the CD when ejecting.
Why doesn’t the unit or the CD changer work at all?
The built-in microcomputer may be functioning incorrectly due to noise or other factors. Press the reset button on the front panel.
