CAUTION: The JBL STAGE 2 280F floorstanding loudspeakers have a high center of gravity and may become unstable and tip over during earthquakes or if they are rocked, tipped, or improperly positioned. Consider anchoring these speakers to the wall behind them using procedures and hardware customary for bookcases and wall units. You are responsible for proper selection and installation of hardware. When installing screws, do not over-tighten.

When wall-mounting, avoid in-wall electrical lines and seek professional guidance if you are unclear on how to proceed safely.

Ensure that all electrical components are turned OFF and unplugged from electrical outlets before connecting other components.

The JBL STAGE 2 280F loudspeaker comes with four feet that need to be attached to the base of the speaker cabinet. Align the feet with the pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the speaker and secure them with the provided screws.

To set up a Dolby ATMOS® enabled speaker (such as the JBL Stage 240H) with your JBL STAGE 2 280F, place the ATMOS speaker securely on top of the main tower speaker. The ATMOS speaker is designed to fit on top, firing sound upwards to reflect off the ceiling.

For a standard 2.0 stereo setup, place the Left (L) and Right (R) JBL STAGE 2 280F speakers so they form an angle of 40° to 60° with the primary listening position. For a 2.1 setup, add a subwoofer (Sub) to the system. The subwoofer’s position can vary, but it is often placed along the same wall as the front speakers.

For a 5.1 surround sound system, position your speakers as follows relative to the main listening position:

Front Left (L) and Right (R): Place your JBL STAGE 2 280F speakers at a 20° to 30° angle on either side of your display.

Center (C): Place the center channel speaker directly above or below your display, centered between the L and R speakers.

Left Surround (LS) and Right Surround (RS): Place these speakers to the sides of the listening position at a 110° to 120° angle. They should be positioned 5 to 6 feet (1.5 m – 1.8 m) high.

Subwoofer (Sub): Place the subwoofer in a suitable location, often along the front wall.

For a 7.1 surround sound system, expand on the 5.1 setup with the following positions relative to the main listening position:

Front Left (L) and Right (R): Place your JBL STAGE 2 280F speakers at a 20° to 30° angle on either side of your display.

Center (C): Place the center channel speaker directly above or below your display.

Side Surround Left (LSS) and Side Surround Right (RSS): Place these speakers to the sides of the listening position at a 90° to 110° angle. Position them 5 to 6 feet (1.5 m – 1.8 m) high.

Rear Surround Left (LSR) and Rear Surround Right (RSR): Place these speakers behind the listening position at a 135° to 150° angle.

Subwoofer (Sub): Place the subwoofer in a suitable location in the room.

The JBL STAGE 2 280F speaker terminals accept three common types of connections:

A. Bare Wire:

1. Unscrew the terminal cap.

2. Insert the bare end of the speaker wire through the hole in the binding post.

3. Tighten the terminal cap to secure the wire.

B. Spade Connectors:

1. Unscrew the terminal cap.

2. Place the spade connector around the binding post.

3. Tighten the terminal cap to secure the connector.

C. Banana Plugs:

1. Ensure the terminal cap is fully tightened.

2. Insert the banana plug directly into the hole at the end of the terminal cap.

To connect your JBL STAGE 2 280F for standard use, run speaker wire from the corresponding positive (+) and negative (-) speaker outputs on your amplifier or receiver to the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals labeled “FRONT” on the back of the speaker. Ensure the metal jumpers are in place connecting the FRONT and HEIGHT terminals.

When using an attached Dolby Atmos speaker module, you will need two sets of speaker wires per speaker.

1. First, remove the metal jumpers that connect the FRONT and HEIGHT terminals on the back of the speaker.

2. Connect one set of speaker wires from the front channel outputs of your receiver to the terminals labeled “FRONT” on the speaker.

3. Connect a second set of speaker wires from the height or Dolby Atmos channel outputs of your receiver to the terminals labeled “HEIGHT” or “ATMOS” on the speaker.
