To ensure proper operation of your HP LASERJET MANAGED MFP E42540, please adhere to the following environmental conditions:

Temperature: 10°C to 32.5°C (50°F to 91°F)

Humidity: 10% to 80%

Ensure the printer is placed in a well-ventilated area.

Follow these steps to load paper into the paper tray:

Step 1. Pull the paper tray completely out of the printer.

Step 2. Adjust the paper guides by squeezing the adjustment latches and sliding the guides to the correct size for the paper you are using.

Step 3. Load the stack of paper into the tray.

Step 4. Slide the paper tray back into the printer.

If you are connecting your HP LASERJET MANAGED MFP E42540 to a network, connect the network cable now.

CAUTION: Do not connect the USB cable at this time.

NOTE: The necessary cables are not included with the printer.

Step 1. Connect the power cable between the printer and a grounded AC outlet.

Step 2. Turn on the printer by pressing the power button.

Step 3. On the Initial Setup screen that appears on the printer’s control panel, set the language, the location, the date/time format, and other features as prompted.

CAUTION: Make sure your power source is adequate for the printer voltage rating. The specific voltage rating is on the printer label. The printer uses either 100-127 Vac or 220-240 Vac and 50/60 Hz. To prevent damage to the HP LASERJET MANAGED MFP E42540, use only the power cable that is provided with the printer.

For advanced setup for your network-connected HP LASERJET MANAGED MFP E42540, enter the printer IP address in the address bar of a web browser after the printer is in a ready state. To find the IP address, select the Information button (i) on the control panel, and then select the Ethernet icon.

The HP LASERJET MANAGED MFP E42540 uses an analog fax device. For best results, HP recommends using the printer on a dedicated analog telephone line.

NOTE: The product may or may not have a fax cord enclosed.

The USB port on the HP LASERJET MANAGED MFP E42540 is disabled by default and must be enabled from the printer control panel.

Step 1. Open the Settings menu on the control panel.

Step 2. Select General, then Enable Device USB, and finally select Enabled.

For Windows users: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted to do so during the software installation in the next step. If you connected a network cable in a previous step, proceed to the next step without connecting the USB cable.

For Mac users: Connect the USB cable now.

NOTE: The necessary cables are not included with the printer.

Step 1. Locate and download the HP Easy Start software.

Step 2. Follow the onscreen instructions to download and launch HP Easy Start, and then follow the onscreen instructions to install the software.

Method 2: IT managed setup (for Windows clients and servers only)

Locate, download and install the HP Universal Print Driver.
