What are the important safety warnings for my HAIER BD-60G chest freezer?
Please observe the following important safety warnings when using your HAIER BD-60G:
• This appliance is designed for domestic use only. If used for professional or commercial purposes, the relevant trade standards must be followed.
• If you are replacing an old appliance, ensure you destroy any existing latch or bolt locks before disposal to prevent children from locking themselves in.
• The old appliance should be disposed of ecologically by a specialized company, as it may contain harmful components in the coolant.
• After installation, the power plug must be easily accessible.
• If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced with an approved cable provided by a manufacturer or service agent.
• WARNING: Keep ventilation openings, both in the appliance enclosure and in any built-in structure, clear of obstruction.
• WARNING: Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process other than those recommended by the manufacturer.
• WARNING: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.
• WARNING: Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartment unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.
• The refrigerant is easily inflammable. The circuit is hermetically sealed. Any improper intervention can cause a fire hazard. Avoid any mechanical influence on the cooling system, especially the compressor, condenser, capillary tube, and drying filter.
Where should I install my HAIER BD-60G chest freezer?
For proper installation of your HAIER BD-60G, follow these guidelines:
• Place the appliance in a cool, well-aired, dry room. Strictly avoid high ambient temperatures and direct sunlight.
• Avoid installing it near a heat source like a heater or oven. If this is unavoidable, a suitable insulation plate must be fitted between the appliance and the heat source, and the following minimum distances must be observed:
– From a gas or electric cooker: 3 cm
– From a radiator or oven: 5 cm
– From a wall, piece of furniture, or another appliance: 2 cm
• Never obstruct the ventilation grille if your model has one. These models can be placed directly against a wall, but not with the ventilated side blocked.

• The appliance must be placed horizontally on a level base to ensure proper function.
What must I do before switching on my new HAIER BD-60G for the first time?
Before you switch on your new HAIER BD-60G, it is important to follow these steps:
1. After placing the freezer in its final position, you must let it stand for at least 2 hours before switching it on. This allows the refrigerant circuit to stabilize and prevents operating problems.
2. Thoroughly clean the interior compartment with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar to remove the typical new appliance odor.
3. Do not use washing liquids, sharp or granular cleaning implements, or any cleaning products containing soda.
4. Before connecting the appliance to the power supply, make sure the entire inner area, especially the corners, is absolutely dry.
How do I connect my HAIER BD-60G to the power supply?
Your HAIER BD-60G must be connected to a power socket with a grounded connection, conforming to respective standards and installed by an authorized specialist. Before plugging in the appliance, make sure that the voltage (V) on the appliance’s rating plate corresponds with your mains voltage. If the voltage differs, do not connect the appliance.
How do I set the temperature on my HAIER BD-60G?
The temperature control (thermostat) on your HAIER BD-60G switches the appliance on and off and sets the cooling temperature. The control is intentionally resistant to turning to prevent accidental changes; use a coin or screwdriver to adjust the setting.
• The compressor stops when the control panel marking is on “0” or “OFF” (not all models have this function).
• The temperature can be adjusted between:
– Min / minimum number (slight cooling)
– Max / maximum number (lowest temperature)
Temperature settings should be based on the ambient temperature, the quantity of food stored, and the frequency of opening. A medium setting is recommended to start.
What do the indicator lights on my HAIER BD-60G mean?
If your HAIER BD-60G is equipped with indicator lights, they signify the following:
• Green Light (CONTROL): The appliance is connected to power and is operating. The green light must always be on when the freezer is plugged in and switched on. This is important because it is the only light that functions during a power failure.
• Red Light (ALARM): The interior temperature is too high. It is normal for this light to come on during the first start-up, after defrosting, or when filling the freezer with fresh food. It will automatically turn off when the interior temperature reaches approximately -15°C. If the red light stays on for more than 12 to 24 hours, there may be a serious problem.
• Yellow Light (SUPER FREEZE): The SUPER FREEZE switch is on, and the thermostat function is disabled. The compressor will cool continuously until the SUPER FREEZE switch is turned off.
If your appliance is equipped with a warning buzzer, it will sound when the red light is on. The buzzer is automatically silenced when you turn on the SUPER FREEZE switch.
What is the correct start-up procedure for my HAIER BD-60G?
Follow these steps for the initial start-up of your HAIER BD-60G:
1. Fully unpack the appliance.
2. Remove any polystyrene parts from the compressor chamber (if supplied).
3. Remove all documents and accessories from inside the appliance.
4. Clean the interior with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar, and dry it thoroughly with a cloth.
5. Close the appliance lid.
6. Insert the plug into the socket.
7. Switch on the appliance by turning the temperature control to the right, to the “Max” position for now. The green and red lights will turn on.
8. If equipped with a SUPER FREEZE switch, turn it on. The yellow light will also turn on.
9. Do not open the appliance for about 4 hours, or as long as the red light is on, to allow the interior temperature to drop to the necessary level.
10. You can now fill the appliance with ready-frozen food.
11. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE switch after 24 hours at the latest.
12. If you wish to freeze fresh, unfrozen food, proceed according to the instructions for “Freezing/storage of fresh food”.
What are the rules for storing food in the HAIER BD-60G chest freezer?
For safe and effective food storage in your HAIER BD-60G, please adhere to these rules:
• Do not store any bottles containing liquids. Liquid expands when frozen and can cause the bottle to explode.
• Never store containers with explosive substances (like gas lighters, petrol, ether) in the freezer.
• When storing ready-frozen food, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the packaging.
• Deep-frozen ice cream and ice lollies should be eaten only a few minutes after removal from the freezer to avoid injury to lips and tongue (danger of skin detachment).
• For the same reason, avoid touching the frozen inner walls of the freezer with wet hands.
• Defrosted or slightly frozen products should be used within a short time. As a rule, such products are not suitable for re-freezing.
• To ensure correct storage, never fill the storage shelf up to the edge. Always leave space between the lid and the frozen food.
How do I freeze fresh food in my HAIER BD-60G?
To freeze fresh food in your HAIER BD-60G, follow this procedure:
1. Pack fresh products in portions suitable for your household. Label the portions clearly with the product name, weight, quantity, freezing date, and use-by date.
2. Place the fresh food in the pre-freezing compartment (if available) or on the bottom of the freezer, which is the coldest part. Avoid direct contact with already frozen food to prevent it from defrosting.
3. Only add an amount of fresh food that corresponds to the freezing capacity of your appliance (found on the rating plate, e.g., XX kg/24h) within a 24-hour period.
4. If available, switch on the SUPER FREEZE switch.
5. After 24 hours, move the newly frozen goods from the bottom or pre-freeze shelf to a hanging basket to make space for more fresh food.
6. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE switch (the yellow light will go off).
7. Set the temperature control according to the freezer’s filling capacity.
8. Ensure the storage temperature is always at least -18°C. You can check this with a thermometer.
When refilling with more fresh food, wait at least 24 hours after the previous filling.
What are the recommended temperature settings for my HAIER BD-60G to save energy?
To save energy when operating your HAIER BD-60G in a normal ambient temperature of +18°C to +22°C, the following temperature control settings are recommended based on the filling capacity:
| Capacity / pos. | Stacking mark | Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Full | upper | 12,00 h |
| Half full | medium | 10.00 h |
| 1/4 or less | lower | 08.00 h |
How do I defrost my HAIER BD-60G chest freezer?
Defrost your HAIER BD-60G once or twice a year, or when a thick layer of ice has formed. Layers of ice and frost act as insulation and prevent cold from being released effectively.
Danger Warnings: Never use electrical appliances like hair dryers or fan heaters, or devices with a naked flame like candles, to defrost the freezer. The plastic interior can melt, and escaping gas can be ignited.
Follow these steps to defrost:
1. Prepare a suitable non-metallic container (e.g., a plastic container or wash-basket).
2. Make absolutely sure you remove the plug from the power socket.
3. Dry your hands thoroughly to prevent skin damage from contact with ice (use gloves if possible).
4. Remove all frozen food, roll it firmly in newspaper, place it in the container, and move the container to a cool, dry room.
5. Cover the container all around with a thick blanket.
6. If your model has a divider (H), lift it out of its guide rail.
7. Use the divider as a defrosting dish, placing it under the defrosting water drain plug on the side of the freezer.
8. Pull the drain plug (if provided) out of the freezer bottom.
9. Carefully scrape the thickest ice from the inside walls with a plastic or wood scraper and place it in a kitchen sink to melt.
10. To speed up defrosting, you can place a large pot of warm (not too hot) water on the freezer bottom.
11. For freezers without a drain plug, continuously wipe up the water with a sponge.
12. Thoroughly clean the interior. Rinse it with a mixture of warm water and vinegar, then rinse with clear water.
13. Wipe the freezer completely dry with an absorbent cloth and allow it to air for 3 to 4 minutes.
14. Replace the drain plug (if provided).
15. Empty the defrosting water dish and slide it back into place as a divider.
16. Close the chest lid and plug it back into the socket.
17. Set the temperature control to the maximum setting (green and red lamps should go on). If available, switch on the SUPER FREEZE switch (yellow lamp will light up).
18. Now refill the frozen food, placing the oldest items at the top. This entire process (steps 1-17) should be completed within a maximum of two hours to prevent food from defrosting.
19. When the red lamp goes off, reset the temperature control to a setting suitable for the filling capacity.
20. Switch off the SUPER FREEZE switch (if provided) after about 8 to 12 hours, or latest after 24 hours.
What should I do if my HAIER BD-60G is not running?
If your HAIER BD-60G has no function (is not running), first check for a power failure. The insulation of the appliance walls provides 10 to 12 hours of storage time for frozen food after the beginning of a power failure. If it will take longer to resolve the problem, you should take prompt action and, if necessary, move the frozen food to another appliance.
Why is my HAIER BD-60G not cooling enough, taking too long to freeze, or running too often?
If your HAIER BD-60G is not cooling sufficiently, the freezing process is too long, or the compressor is operating too often, check the following possible causes and remedies:
• Initial Stand Time: Did the appliance stand for at least 2 hours before being switched on? If not, this can disrupt the refrigerant flow. Unplug it, let it stand, and follow the restart procedure.
• Power Connection: Is the plug in good condition and properly plugged into the socket? Is the socket receiving power? (Test the socket with a small appliance like a hand-mixer).
• Lid Seal: Does the lid close properly and does the seal press firmly? To test this, place a piece of paper between the seal and the edge of the chest and close the lid. It should be difficult to pull the paper out from any side. If it pulls out easily, the seal may be faulty.
• Ice Formation: Is there heavy ice formation on the inner walls? If so, the freezer needs to be defrosted.
• Location: Is the appliance exposed to direct sunlight or installed near a heat source like an oven or radiator?
• Food Filling: Have you filled the freezer with more food than its rated freezing capacity (see rating plate: XXkg/24h), or have you added too much warm food?
• Compressor Operation: It is normal for the compressor (motor) not to operate continuously. It is controlled by the thermostat and cycles on and off to maintain the set temperature. Noises from the compressor and from refrigerant flowing in the cooling circuit are also normal.
