For optimal performance and image quality from your EPSON EB-W49, follow these placement guidelines:

• Surface: Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface. If mounting, use a compatible ceiling mount.

• Ventilation: Leave plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation. Do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

• Alignment: Place the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. This minimizes the need for keystone correction, which can slightly reduce image quality.

• Environment: Avoid locations with high levels of dust, humidity, smoke, or steam. Do not install it on an unstable surface or in a location where it could be subject to corrosive gases.

You can set up or install your EPSON EB-W49 projector in four ways. You must select the corresponding Projection option in the Extended menu for the image to be oriented correctly.

• Front/Rear: This is for placing the projector on a table or stand.

– Front: Projector is in front of the screen.

– Rear: Projector is behind a translucent screen.

• Front Ceiling/Rear Ceiling: This is for mounting the projector upside down from the ceiling.

– Front Ceiling: Projector is mounted in front of the screen.

– Rear Ceiling: Projector is mounted behind a translucent screen.

To connect a computer to your EPSON EB-W49 for video and audio using a VGA cable, follow these steps:

1. Connect one end of a VGA computer cable to your computer’s monitor port.

2. Connect the other end of the VGA cable to a Computer port (Computer1 or Computer2) on the projector.

3. Tighten the screws on the VGA connector to secure it.

4. For audio, connect a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable from your computer’s headphone or audio-out port to the corresponding Audio port (Audio 1 or Audio 2) on the projector.

You can send video and audio from your computer to the EPSON EB-W49 using a single USB cable (this feature is called USB Display). Note that you may need to install software the first time you connect.

1. Connect a USB cable to the projector’s USB-B port.

2. Connect the other end of the cable to any available USB port on your computer.

3. Turn on the projector and your computer.

4. The first time you connect, you will be prompted to install the Epson USB Display software:

• Windows: Select “Run EMP_UDSE.EXE” in the dialog box that appears.

• Mac: The Epson USB Display setup folder will appear. Select “USB Display Installer” and follow the on-screen instructions.

5. Follow any on-screen instructions. Do not disconnect the cable until the projector displays an image from your computer.

To connect a device with an HDMI port (like a computer, Blu-ray player, or streaming device) to your EPSON EB-W49, follow these steps:

1. Connect one end of an HDMI cable to your computer’s or video source’s HDMI output port.

2. Connect the other end of the cable to one of the projector’s HDMI ports (HDMI1 or HDMI2).

The HDMI connection carries both video and digital audio signals. If you have problems with audio, you may need to connect a separate 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable and select the correct audio input port in the projector’s Extended menu.

You can project images and other content directly from a USB device (like a flash drive, digital camera, or USB hard drive) without a computer using the PC Free feature of your EPSON EB-W49.

Device Requirements:

• USB devices must be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant.

• Devices should be formatted in FAT16/32.

• It is recommended to use self-powered hard drives (with their own AC power supplies).

Connection Steps:

1. If your USB device has a power adapter, plug it into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect the USB device or its cable to the projector’s USB-A port.

3. Press the [USB] button on the remote to begin your PC Free presentation.

To Disconnect:

1. Turn off and unplug the USB device, if necessary.

2. Disconnect the USB device from the projector.

You can enhance the audio of your presentation by connecting external devices to your EPSON EB-W49.

Connecting External Speakers:

1. Make sure your computer or video source is connected to the projector with both audio and video cables.

2. Use a stereo mini-jack cable (or an adapter if needed) to connect your self-powered speakers.

3. Connect one end of the cable to your speakers.

4. Connect the stereo mini-jack end of the cable to the projector’s Audio Out port.

Connecting a Microphone:

The EPSON EB-W49 does not have a dedicated microphone port.

The remote control for the EPSON EB-W49 uses two AA batteries. Follow these steps to install or replace them:

1. Press the tab on the battery cover and slide it off.

2. Remove the old batteries, if necessary. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

3. Insert the two new AA batteries, making sure the + and – ends match the polarity marks inside the battery holder.

4. Replace the battery cover and press it down until it clicks into place.

Turning On the Projector:

1. Connect the power cord to the projector’s power inlet and plug it into an electrical outlet. The power indicator will turn blue (standby mode).

2. Open the projector’s lens cover by sliding the A/V Mute slide lever.

3. Press the power button on the control panel or the remote control. The projector will beep, and the status indicator will flash blue as it warms up. When it stops flashing and remains solid blue, the projector is ready.

4. Turn on your connected computer or video source.

Turning Off the Projector:

1. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control.

2. A shutdown confirmation screen will appear. Press the power button again to confirm. (To cancel, press any other button).

3. The projected image will disappear, the projector will beep twice, and the status indicator will turn off. Thanks to Instant Off technology, there is no cool-down period required.

4. To transport the projector, make sure the power indicator is solid blue and the status indicator is off, then unplug the power cord.

5. Close the projector’s lens cover.

You may need to flip the image depending on how your EPSON EB-W49 is installed. You can do this using the remote control or the projector’s menu.

Using the Remote Control (for top-to-bottom flip):

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Hold down the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control for about 5 seconds. The image will briefly disappear and then reappear flipped top-to-bottom.

3. To change it back, repeat the process.

Using the Menus (for all modes):

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the [Menu] button.

3. Select the Extended menu and press [Enter].

4. Select Projection and press [Enter].

5. Select the desired projection mode and press [Enter]:

• Front: For table projection in front of the screen.

• Front/Ceiling: For ceiling mounting in front of the screen (flips image vertically).

• Rear: For table projection behind a translucent screen (flips image horizontally).

• Rear/Ceiling: For ceiling mounting behind a translucent screen (flips image vertically and horizontally).

6. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit.

If the projected image from your EPSON EB-W49 is unevenly rectangular (a trapezoid shape), you can use several methods to correct it. Note that after correction, the image may be slightly smaller.

Auto V-Keystone:

When the projector is moved or tilted up or down, the Auto V-Keystone feature automatically corrects any vertical keystone distortion. This is active by default when the Projection setting is set to Front.

Horizontal Keystone Slider:

Use the physical slider on top of the projector to correct for horizontal distortion when the projector is placed off to the side of the screen.

Keystone Buttons:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press one of the keystone adjustment buttons on the control panel to display the Keystone adjustment screen.

3. Press the keystone buttons to adjust the image shape as needed.

Quick Corner:

For more precise adjustments, you can adjust each of the four corners of the image individually.

1. Press the [Menu] button.

2. Select the Settings menu and press [Enter].

3. Select Keystone and press [Enter].

4. Select Quick Corner and press [Enter].

5. Use the arrow buttons to select the corner of the image you want to adjust, then press [Enter].

6. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the shape of that corner.

7. Repeat for other corners as needed. Press [Esc] when finished.

You can adjust the size and sharpness of the projected image on your EPSON EB-W49 using the rings on the lens.

Resizing the Image:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the zoom ring to enlarge or reduce the image size.

Focusing the Image:

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the focus ring until the image is sharp and clear.

To change the aspect ratio (the width-to-height ratio) of the displayed image on your EPSON EB-W49, follow these steps:

1. Turn on the projector and switch to the image source you want to use.

2. Press the [Aspect] button on the remote control.

3. The shape and size of the image will change, and the name of the new aspect ratio will appear on the screen.

4. To cycle through all the available aspect ratios for your input signal, press the [Aspect] button repeatedly.

You can optimize the image for your viewing environment by changing the Color Mode on your EPSON EB-W49.

Changing the Color Mode:

1. Turn on the projector and switch to the image source you want to use.

2. Press the [Color Mode] button on the remote control.

3. The name of the Color Mode appears briefly on the screen and the image appearance changes.

4. Press the [Color Mode] button repeatedly to cycle through the available modes for your input signal.

Available Color Modes:

The EPSON EB-W49 projector does not support the split-screen feature to project two images simultaneously. This feature is available on other models in the series, but not the EB-W49.

You can use the A/V Mute feature to temporarily stop the projection and mute the sound, for example, to redirect your audience’s attention. Any video or sound source will continue to run in the background.

• Using the remote control: Press the [A/V Mute] button to stop projection. Press it again to resume.

• Using the projector: Slide the A/V Mute slide lever on the projector to close the lens cover. Slide it back to open the cover and resume projection.

Note: The projector’s power will automatically turn off after 30 minutes if A/V Mute is enabled. You can disable this timer in the ECO menu settings.

You can temporarily stop the action in a video or presentation and keep the current image on the screen using the Freeze function.

1. During your presentation, press the [Freeze] button on the remote control to stop the video action and hold the current image.

2. To restart the video action, press the [Freeze] button again.

The EPSON EB-W49 offers several security features to deter theft and prevent unintended use:

• Password Security: Prevents unauthorized use of the projector and changes to settings like the user logo and network configuration. Types of password protection include:

– Power On Protection: Requires a password to use the projector.

– User’s Logo Protection: Prevents changes to the custom startup screen.

– Network Protection: Prevents changes to network settings.

• Button Lock Security: Blocks operation of the buttons on the projector’s control panel. You can choose a Full Lock (all buttons locked) or a Partial Lock (all buttons locked except the power button).

• Security Cabling: The projector includes a security slot for use with a Kensington Microsaver Security system and a security cable attachment point for a wire lock to physically secure the projector.

Regular cleaning of the air filter is important to prevent your EPSON EB-W49 from overheating. Clean the filter when a message appears or if you notice it is dusty.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Gently remove dust from the air filter and vents using a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush (like a paintbrush). You can remove the air filter from its slot to clean both sides. Do not rinse the filter with water or use any detergent.

3. If dust is difficult to remove or if the filter is damaged, it should be replaced.

You should replace the air filter on your EPSON EB-W49 if it is torn, damaged, or if you still see a cleaning message after cleaning it.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Open the air filter cover.

3. Pull the old air filter out of the projector.

4. Place the new air filter (model ELPAF54) into the projector as shown in the manual and push it gently until it clicks into place.

5. Close the air filter cover.

You should replace the lamp (model ELPLP97) as soon as possible when the projected image gets darker, or when you see a lamp replacement message on screen.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Allow the lamp to cool down for at least one hour to avoid injury.

3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the lamp cover.

4. Slide the lamp cover out and lift it off.

5. Loosen the two screws securing the lamp to the projector. These screws will not come all the way out.

6. Grip the raised section of the old lamp and carefully pull it straight out.

7. Gently insert the new lamp into the projector. If it doesn’t fit easily, make sure it is facing the right way. Do not touch the glass on the lamp assembly.

8. Push the lamp in firmly and tighten the two screws to secure it.

9. Replace the lamp cover and tighten its screw to secure it.

10. After replacing the lamp, you must reset the lamp timer.

After replacing the lamp on your EPSON EB-W49, you must reset the lamp usage timer to clear the replacement message and ensure accurate lamp usage monitoring. Only perform this reset after installing a new lamp.

1. Turn on the projector.

2. Press the [Menu] button.

3. Select the Reset menu and press [Enter].

4. Select Reset Lamp Hours and press [Enter].

5. A confirmation prompt will appear. Select Yes and press [Enter].

6. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit the menus.

The indicators on the EPSON EB-W49 provide information about its status and potential problems. Refer to the table below for solutions:

If no image appears from your EPSON EB-W49, try the following solutions:

• Make sure the lens cover is fully open.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to ensure the image was not temporarily turned off.

• Check that all necessary cables are securely connected to both the projector and the video source.

• Ensure the projector and the connected video source are powered on.

• Press the projector’s power button to wake it from standby or sleep mode.

• Press the [Source Search] button on the control panel or remote control to detect the input signal.

• If using a laptop, you may need to press a function key combination (e.g., Fn + F-key) to enable the external video port.

• Adjust the Brightness setting in the projector’s Image menu.

• Select High or Medium as the Power Consumption setting in the ECO menu.

If the projected image is out of focus, try these solutions:

• Adjust the image focus by rotating the focus ring on the projector lens.

• Make sure the projector is positioned at the correct distance from the screen for the desired image size.

• Reposition the projector to minimize the keystone adjustment angle, as a wide angle can affect focus uniformity.

• Clean the projector lens using lens-cleaning paper and, if necessary, a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with lens cleaner.

• To avoid condensation on the lens, let the projector warm up to room temperature before use if it has been moved from a cold environment.

If you are not getting sound from the projector, try these solutions:

• Adjust the projector’s volume using the volume buttons on the control panel or remote control.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote to ensure audio was not temporarily muted.

• Check the volume settings on your computer or video source to make sure it is not muted or set too low.

• Ensure that the audio cable is securely connected between your source and the correct audio input port on the projector.

• If you have connected external speakers to the Audio Out port, the projector’s internal speaker is disabled. Disconnect the external speakers to use the internal one.

• If using an HDMI source, ensure your connected device is set to output audio via PCM (Pulse Code Modulation).
