Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

The LIMIT indicator lights when the amplifier enters clipping and the internal limiter is activated. Short-term indication is permissible. However, a continuously lit LED signals that you should reduce the overall volume to avoid damaging the connected loudspeaker systems from overload conditions.

This indicator lights up when an output signal is present. If there is short-circuited speaker cabling or one of the amplifier’s protection functions is engaged, the indicator will be off, showing that there is no signal being outputted.

The POWER ON LED lights when the appliance’s power switch has been engaged. If the indicator does not light after engaging the power switch, it means either the amplifier is not connected to the mains power, or the internal mains fuse has been blown and needs to be replaced by qualified service personnel.

If the PROTECT indicator lights during operation, it means one of the amplifier’s internal protection functions against thermal overload, short-circuit, or the occurrence of HF at the output has been engaged. The cause that put the amplifier into protection mode, such as a short-circuited speaker cable, must be eliminated. In the case of thermal overload, you must wait until the power amplifier cools down and returns to normal operation mode.

The POWER switch turns the amplifier’s power on. To eliminate unwanted noise in the connected speaker systems, the loudspeaker output switching is delayed via relays. An initial current inrush limiter also prevents the mains fuse from being blown during power-on.

The ELECTRO-VOICE CPS 1 provides electronically balanced inputs via both XLR-type and “PHOENIX”-type connectors. These are wired in parallel, allowing you to feed additional power amplifiers with identical signals. The pin assignment is according to the IEC 268 standard.

XLR-type input connectors pin-assignment:

The input sensitivity is factory set to 1Vrms.

The rear panel features dB-scaled potentiometers for adjusting the power amplifier’s overall amplification. These controls should typically be set between 0 dB and -6 dB, depending on the output of the connected signal source device (e.g., a mixing console). The printed scale indicates the actual amount of damping in the amplification.

PARALLEL MONAURAL: Setting the selector switch to the PARALLEL/MONO position puts the channel A and channel B inputs in an electrically direct parallel configuration. This leaves you with the opportunity to individually control the channels’ level settings using the output controls A and B.

DUAL STEREO: When the selector switch is set to its DUAL/STEREO position, both channels are amplified separately.

The power amplifier’s channel A (left) and channel B (right) outputs are carried out on 4-POLE-BARRIER-STRIP connectors. Please mind the correct polarity when connecting loudspeaker systems, according to the diagram for DUAL OUTPUT. Dangerously high voltages may be present at the binding posts. After establishing loudspeaker cable connections, it is absolutely mandatory to close the terminal strip’s cover lid.

To use Bridged Mode:

1. Engage the bridged mode switch on the rear panel.

2. You must use the channel A input. The channel B input will be out of function.

In this mode, the signal is internally inverted and fed to the channel B power amp. The two amplifiers (A+B) are used in a push-pull operation, providing double the output voltage at the BRIDGED-OUT connector. The minimal load for bridged mode is 4 ohms. Bridged mode operation with loads of 2 ohms is not admissible.

The ground-lift switch is designed to help avoid ground noise loops.

GROUNDED position: This is the recommended setting when the power amplifier is installed in a 19″ rack system and operated with other equipment.

UNGROUNDED position: This setting is recommended if the power amplifier is used with appliances that are connected to different ground potentials.

The ELECTRO-VOICE CPS 1 provides on-board protection against thermal and capacitive overload, short-circuit, and the occurrence of HF or DC at the output. Special circuitry also prevents the output-stage transistors from being damaged by Back-EMF. During soft start, delayed switching of the power outputs is accomplished via relays, and a limiter controls the initial current inrush. It also features audio limiters, high temperature protection, peak current limiters, and a turn-on delay.
