To set up your ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-W loudspeaker, follow these steps:

Step 1. Connect the AC power cord from a grounded receptacle to the MAINS IN to ensure the battery has sufficient charge. It is recommended to leave the loudspeaker plugged in and charging for 24 hours the first time it is used.

Step 2. Switch power to ON.

Step 3. Adjust the volume (VOL) to 0 dB using the MASTER VOL knob.

Step 4. Push the input selection soft key for INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 if using an XLR or 1/4-inch cable, or push the input selection soft key for INPUT 3/4 if using Bluetooth or a 3.5 mm mini jack. Use the MASTER VOL knob to adjust INPUT LEVEL to MUTE.

Step 5. Connect an audio source using an XLR, TRS, or TS cable to INPUT 1, INPUT 2, or a 3.5 mm mini jack to INPUT 3/4. Ensure the audio source is muted or at a low level before making the connection. After the connection is made, increase the source’s output to a reasonable level.

Step 6. Adjust the INPUT LEVEL until the signal peaks are just below the maximum level or the required output is achieved. If PK (PEAK) is indicated, turn the level down until the PK indication disappears. Press the input selection soft key again to exit the channel menu.

Step 7. Using the MASTER VOL knob, adjust the volume (VOL) until you get the required output from the loudspeaker.

Before pairing, ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone or tablet.

To place the ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-W loudspeaker in pairing mode for both control and streaming:

1. Press and hold INPUT 3/4 until Pairing Mode On and the 4-digit ID is shown on the LCD.

2. Navigate to your mobile device’s Bluetooth settings menu, find the EVERSE loudspeaker with the matching 4-digit ID, and ensure you are paired to it for audio streaming.

3. Continue to the next step to pair for control.

For first-time pairing with the app:

1. Open the EV QuickSmart Mobile app.

2. “Select your Speakers” is displayed on the screen as the app looks for available Bluetooth enabled Electro-Voice loudspeakers.

3. Tap the loudspeaker you want to pair with the app. The selected loudspeaker will have a line under it.

4. Repeat the previous step until all required loudspeakers are selected.

5. Tap the CONNECT button.

6. You will get a message from your device’s operating system about pairing for each device, which has to be accepted.

7. Tap PAIR on the device to accept pairing. The app can connect to up to six loudspeakers.

For subsequent pairing of additional loudspeakers:

1. Tap the EV QuickSmart Mobile app icon.

2. “Select your Speakers” is displayed as the app searches for available loudspeakers.

3. Tap the loudspeaker you want to pair with the app.

4. Repeat the previous step until all required loudspeakers are selected.

5. Tap the CONNECT button. The app will connect with the required loudspeaker(s).

Your ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-W comes with a pre-installed Li-Ion battery pack. Charge the battery for 24 hours before the first use to ensure maximum battery run time and life expectancy.

To charge the battery:

Plug the MAINS IN while the battery is installed in the loudspeaker. After the first full charge, expected charge times are:

• 4 hours or less with no signal and the power switched off.

• 6 hours or less with the power switched on and audio playing at high output levels.

The LCD will display CHARGING while charging with the power off, and FULL when it has reached full charge.

To remove and reinstall the battery:

1. Place the loudspeaker grille side down on a flat, non-scratching surface with the battery door facing you.

2. Fully loosen the two finger tab screws by turning them counter-clockwise.

3. Gently but firmly pull on the battery pack by the finger pull located on the back of the battery door.

4. To reinstall the battery pack, follow the previous steps in reverse. Ensure the battery door is fully seated before tightening the finger tab screws. Finger tighten only until snug; do not over-tighten.

When the weatherized input cover is installed, the ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-W is weather resistant to IP43 standards, but not waterproof. It is intended for temporary use in wet or damp environments, not continuous exposure over long periods. Do not expose to salt water, spray, or high chlorine environments.

Follow these guidelines for safe use:

The weatherized input cover must be installed for use in wet or damp conditions. When installed, the loudspeaker is water resistant to IP43 standards and can operate on battery power with Bluetooth audio streaming and control.

To install the cover:

1. Ensure that the weatherized input cover is fully intact, dry, clean, and the gasket is in good condition.

2. Ensure that the input panel on the loudspeaker is dry, clean, and the mating channel around the input connectors is free of any dust or debris that would prevent a good seal.

3. Power on the loudspeaker.

4. Install the cover by pressing it firmly in order to fully seat the gasket in the mating channel on the amplifier input panel. The cover will be flush with the adjacent panels of the loudspeaker.

To remove the cover:

Pull the cover carefully and evenly using the finger pull-tabs.

Mounting on a Tripod Stand:

1. Place the tripod stand on a level and stable surface. Fully extend the legs on the tripod stand. Do not compromise the stand’s structural integrity by trying to make it taller.

2. Lift the loudspeaker using two hands.

3. Set the pole cup located on the bottom of the loudspeaker onto the pole. Do not attempt to mount more than one loudspeaker on a stand designed for a single loudspeaker.

Mounting on a Pole Above a Subwoofer:

1. Place the subwoofer on a level and stable surface.

2. Insert the M20 threaded pole into the combo pole cup on the top of the subwoofer.

3. Turn the M20 threaded pole clockwise to secure it to the subwoofer.

4. Lift the loudspeaker using two hands.

5. Set the loudspeaker location to TRIPOD in the DSP control menu.

6. Select the corresponding LOW PASS setting for your subwoofer.

Setting up as a Floor Monitor:

1. Place the loudspeaker on a level and stable surface.

2. Safely route cables to prevent injury.

3. Set the loudspeaker location to MONITOR in the DSP control menu.

Setting up in Kickback Position:

1. Place the loudspeaker on a level and stable surface.

2. Tilt the loudspeaker rearward to rest securely in the kickback position.

3. Safely route cables to prevent injury.

4. Set the loudspeaker location to KICKBACK in the DSP control menu.

1. LCD: DSP control and monitoring interface.

2. MASTER VOL: Adjusts the sound level and navigates the DSP control menu. Push the knob to enter the DSP control menu.

3. Input selection soft keys: Press to select an input and access its DSP control menu. Press again to deselect and return to the main DSP.

4. INPUT 1: Balanced input for sources like mixing consoles, instruments, or microphones via 1/4-inch TRS or XLR connectors. The XLR connector is selectable for 48V phantom power.

5. INPUT 2: Balanced input for mixing consoles or microphones via XLR, or Hi-Z instrument connection via TRS.

6. INPUT 3/4: Bluetooth stereo input for audio streaming or analog stereo input via 3.5 mm mini-jack.

7. MIX OUT: XLR output that sends either the mix of all input signals or the stereo L/R signal to another loudspeaker or subwoofer.

8. FOOTSWITCH: 1/4-inch TRS connector for a footswitch to toggle FX on/off.

9. Mobile device charging port: 5 V 1.5 A charging for mobile devices.

10. MAINS IN: AC connection via an IEC-connector.

11. POWER: Switch for power ON or OFF.

12. DC POWER OUT: DC power output jack (12V DC, 500mA or less, center pin positive) for powering a wireless microphone receiver, for use with the EVERSE-TRAY accessory.

The LCD screen displays the following system status information:

• VOL: Indicates the master gain of the system in dB, from -80 dB to +10 dB.

• INPUT 1 VU meter: Displays the signal level of INPUT 1. ‘P’ indicates 48V phantom power is on.

• INPUT 2 VU meter: Displays the signal level of INPUT 2. ‘H’ indicates a Hi-Z instrument is connected.

• INPUT 3/4 VU meter: Displays the signal level from either Bluetooth streaming or the 3.5 mm mini jack.

• MAIN VU meter: Displays the signal level of the MAIN output.

• DUCK: Indicates that ducking is activated on either or both INPUT 1 and INPUT 2.

• AFS: Indicates that Automatic Feedback Suppression is enabled.

• BATTERY status: Shows the battery level and indicates if it’s charging (when MAINS is connected).

• FUNCTION indicator: Shows whether the system is in MIXER or BASIC mode.

• Status display: Alternately shows the selected preset number (1-5), ‘E’ if the preset is edited but not saved, and a lock symbol if controls are locked.

• S (Audio streaming): OFF (disabled), FLASHING (pairing mode), SOLID (connected).

• C (Control app): OFF (disabled), FLASHING (pairing mode), SOLID (connected).

• System protection: CLIP indicates the input signal is too high. LIMIT indicates the output limiter is active to protect the loudspeaker.

1. Push the MASTER VOL knob to access the DSP control menu.

2. Use the MASTER VOL knob to scroll through the menu items.

3. Push the MASTER VOL knob to select the menu item you want to modify. The focus moves to the parameters on the right side.

4. Use the MASTER VOL knob to scroll through the parameters.

5. Push the MASTER VOL knob to confirm the selected parameter. The setting is saved, and the focus returns to the menu items on the left.

6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 to modify additional settings.

7. Select EXIT to return to the home screen. The display will also return to the home screen after 30 seconds of inactivity.

The ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-W features two main operating functions: MIXER and BASIC.

• BASIC: Provides input and output gain controls, 3-band EQ, and system delay for simplified setups.

• MIXER: Provides full access and control of the built-in mixer features.

Key DSP settings include:

• MODE: Configures the sound for different applications. Options are MUSIC (default), LIVE, SPEECH, and CLUB.

• LOCATION: Optimizes the loudspeaker for different placements. Options are TRIPOD (default), KICKBACK, and MONITOR.

• SUB: Selects a high-pass frequency for use with a subwoofer. Options include OFF (default), generic frequencies (100 Hz, 120 Hz, 150 Hz), and settings optimized for specific Electro-Voice subwoofers (ELX200-12SP, ELX200-18SP, EKX-15SP, EKX-18SP).

• TREBLE/MID/BASS Control: Adjusts the high, midrange, and low frequency performance of the loudspeaker.

• MAIN PEQ: A 7-band parametric equalizer to adjust the frequency response. Controls include Q (bandwidth), FREQ (center frequency), and GAIN.

• MAIN GEQ: A 7-band graphic equalizer with fixed frequency centers (63, 160, 400, 1.0K, 2.5K, 6.0K & 12K Hz).

• FX & FX ENABLE: Selects from 30 different effects (reverb, chorus, delay) and enables or disables the effect globally.

• AFS (Automatic Feedback Suppression): A 12-band automatic feedback suppressor to reduce feedback from microphones or instrument pickups.

• MIX OUT: Selects which signal is sent to the MIX OUT connector (L+R, L, or R).

• BLUETOOTH: Manages Bluetooth functionality, including control and audio pairing, and linking two speakers for True Wireless Stereo (TWS).

• STORE/RECALL: Save up to five customized user settings and recall them later.

• RESET: Resets the loudspeaker to original factory settings.

1. Press the input selection soft key (INPUT 1, INPUT 2, or INPUT 3/4) to select the input channel. The softkey will illuminate.

2. Use the MASTER VOL knob to adjust the input level.

3. Press the MASTER VOL knob to enter the selected channel’s DSP control menu for further adjustments.

4. Press the input selection soft key again to deselect the channel. The softkey will no longer be illuminated.

Key Input Channel Controls (MIXER mode):

• LEVEL: Adjusts the input gain from -80 dB to +42 dB.

• 48V (INPUT 1 only): Switches +48V DC phantom power on or off for the XLR connector.

• PRESET: Adjusts EQ and compressor settings for different input types (e.g., FLAT, VOCAL MIC, ACOUST GUITAR, LINE INPUT).

• COMP (Inputs 1 & 2): Adjusts the onboard compressor threshold and ratio (from 1:1 to 8:1) to control signal dynamics.

• TREBLE/MID/BASS: A 3-band EQ for shaping the incoming audio signal.

• FX (Inputs 1 & 2): Sets the amount of the selected effect to apply to the channel.

• PAN (Inputs 1 & 2): Adjusts the signal’s position in the stereo field (left to right) for stereo setups.

• DUCKER (Inputs 1 & 2): Reduces the level of other inputs when a signal is detected on this input. Useful for speaking over background music. Adjust the DUCKER level to set the detection threshold.

The LINK SPEAKERS function allows two EVERSE loudspeakers to be linked over Bluetooth for True Wireless Stereo.

1. Pair one of the ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-W loudspeakers via Bluetooth to your mobile device for audio streaming.

2. On both EVERSE loudspeakers, navigate to the BLUETOOTH menu in the Main DSP menu.

3. On both loudspeakers, select LINK SPEAKERS. The LCD will display “LINKING SPEAKERS…” while establishing the connection. When connected, the menu will display “UNLINK SPEAKERS”.

4. In the BLUETOOTH menu, below the LINKING SPEAKERS option, a stereo channel selection will appear. Select the appropriate channel for each loudspeaker: L (Left), R (Right), or L+R (mono). This is the stereo image from the audience’s perspective (House L & R).

If there is no sound from your loudspeaker, try the following:

• Check Gain and Connections: Verify all sources are on. If using a condenser microphone, ensure it is plugged into INPUT 1 via XLR and that phantom power is enabled. Inspect the VU meters on the LCD or in the app. If there is signal present, increase the input and master gain controls. If there is no signal, check all wiring. Check all cables between the source and the loudspeaker with a multimeter or cable tester and replace any suspect cables.

• Microphone Issues: If using a microphone that requires phantom power, ensure it is connected to INPUT 1 and phantom power is enabled. If it’s a dynamic microphone, it does not require phantom power. If the input gain is too low, slowly increase the input gain knob to engage the microphone pre-amp.

Poor low-frequency response can be caused by several DSP settings:

• SUB Menu Activated: If no subwoofers are being used, ensure the SUB menu cross-over frequency is set to the OFF position.

• SPEECH Mode Active: In the DSP control menu, change the MODE from SPEECH to MUSIC, LIVE, or CLUB.

• Input PRESET: In the INPUT DSP control menu, change the input PRESET to FLAT.

• EQ Active: In the INPUT and main DSP control menus, reset any EQs that may be cutting low frequencies.

Constant noise can be caused by the following:

• Defective Source or Device: If noise is present without any program material playing, evaluate each component in your signal chain to isolate the problem.

• Poor Grounding: Check and correct the system grounding as required to eliminate ground loop issues.

• Low Input Gain: If the input gain is set too low for a microphone, you may hear hiss. Slowly increase the INPUT LEVEL to engage the microphone pre-amp properly.

• Mobile Device Ground Loop: Some mobile devices (laptops, phones) can introduce ground loops if they are being charged by the loudspeaker’s USB port while also connected via the 3.5 mm audio jack. To resolve this, connect the audio via Bluetooth or disconnect the device from the USB charging port.

If the sound is distorted and the front LED is off while the LCD screen shows LIMIT, this indicates the input level is too high or the gain structure is incorrect.

• Reduce Input Level: Reduce the INPUT LEVEL or loudspeaker level knobs to prevent the limiter from activating.

• Check Gain Structure: Verify the level controls of your source (mixing console, instrument, etc.) are properly structured. Use the VU meter on the LCD screen. If the VU meter bar is solid or the system indicates LIMIT, the input or source level is too high.

If you experience intermittent output, cracking, or distortion, check all connections at the loudspeaker to ensure they are clean and tight. If the problem persists, check the wiring.

If your microphone produces acoustic feedback, especially when the INPUT LEVEL is amplified, follow these steps:

1. Enable Automatic Feedback Suppression (AFS): Turn on AFS in the DSP Control menu. This will help detect and reduce feedback frequencies automatically.

2. Correct Gain Structure: Reduce the microphone levels at the mixing console or input source. If the microphone is connected directly to the loudspeaker, reduce the INPUT LEVEL. Positioning the microphone closer to the sound source can increase gain-before-feedback.

3. Change MODE: If the MODE is set to MUSIC, change it to LIVE or SPEECH, as these modes are better voiced for microphone use.

4. Check Microphone Position: Whenever possible, set up the loudspeakers so the microphone is behind them. If using the loudspeaker in a monitor position, aim the loudspeaker at the back of the microphone, away from its pickup element.

If the DSP control menu is locked, a lock symbol will be displayed on the LCD screen. This means the menu LOCK function has been turned on. To unlock it, press the MASTER VOL knob or any of the input selection soft keys.

If the app does not detect the loudspeaker, check the following:

• Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on the loudspeaker.

• For Android devices, ensure location services are activated.

• Remove the loudspeaker from your phone/tablet’s device settings (this may be called “FORGET”).

• Restart the pairing process.

• Ensure your phone/tablet has the required OS version and the latest updates installed.

• Ensure the latest version of the QuickSmart Mobile App is installed.

• Ensure no other phone or tablet is already connected to the same loudspeaker.

If the loudspeaker shows no reaction to user interaction or power cycles, it may be due to an unforeseen internal operation failure. Try one of the following recovery actions:

• Remove the mains power and the battery. Then, put the battery back into the loudspeaker and try again.

OR

• Press and hold the soft keys for INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
