To set up the ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-US loudspeaker:

Step 1. Connect the AC power cord from a grounded receptacle to the MAINS IN to ensure the battery has sufficient charge. Note: It is recommended to leave the loudspeaker plugged in and charging for 24 hours the first time it is used.

Step 2. Switch power to ON.

Step 3. Adjust the volume (VOL) to 0 dB using the MASTER VOL knob.

Step 4. Push the input selection soft key for INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 if using an XLR or 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) cable, or push the input selection soft key for INPUT 3/4 if using Bluetooth or 3.5 mm mini jack. Use the MASTER VOL knob to adjust INPUT LEVEL to MUTE.

Step 5. Connect an audio source using an XLR, TRS, or TS cable to INPUT 1, INPUT 2, or a 3.5 mm mini jack to INPUT 3/4. Ensure the audio source is MUTE or at a low level before making the connection. After the connection is made, increase the source’s output to a reasonable level.

Step 6. Adjust the INPUT LEVEL until the signal peaks are just below maximum level or the required output is achieved. If PK (PEAK) is indicated, turn the level down until the PK indication disappears. Press the input selection soft key again to exit the channel menu.

Step 7. Using the MASTER VOL knob, adjust the volume (VOL) until you get the required output from the loudspeaker.

Prior to pairing, ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone or tablet and that location services are allowed for Android devices.

Step 1. To place the loudspeaker in pairing mode for both control and streaming, press and hold the INPUT 3/4 button until “Pairing Mode On” and the 4-digit ID are shown on the LCD.

Step 2. Navigate to your mobile device’s Bluetooth settings menu, find the EVERSE loudspeaker with the matching 4-digit ID, and ensure you are paired to it for audio streaming.

Step 3. Open the EV QuickSmart Mobile app. “Select your Speakers” will be displayed on the screen as the app searches for available loudspeakers.

Step 4. Tap the loudspeaker you want to pair with the app. The selected loudspeaker will have a line under it. Repeat this for all required loudspeakers.

Step 5. Tap the CONNECT button.

Step 6. You will get a message from your device’s operating system about pairing for each device which has to be accepted. Tap PAIR on the device to accept pairing to the loudspeakers. The app can connect to up to six loudspeakers.

The ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-US comes with a pre-installed Li-Ion battery pack. Charge the battery for 24 hours before the first use to ensure maximum battery run time and life expectancy.

To charge the battery, plug the MAINS IN while the battery is installed in the loudspeaker. After the first full charge, the expected battery charge times are:

• 4 hours or less with no signal and the power switched off.

• 6 hours or less with the power switched on and audio playing at high output levels.

The LCD will display “CHARGING” while the battery is charging with the power switched off. The LCD will display “FULL” when the battery has reached full charge.

To remove the battery pack for inspection or replacement:

Step 1. Place the loudspeaker grille side down with the battery door facing you on a flat non-scratching surface.

Step 2. Fully loosen the two finger tab screws by turning them counter-clockwise.

Step 3. Gently but firmly pull on the battery pack by the finger pull located on the back of the battery door.

To reinstall the battery pack, follow the previous steps in reverse. Ensure that the battery door is fully seated before tightening the finger tab screws. Finger tighten only until snug. Do not over tighten or use excessive torque as this may cause damage.

When the weatherized input cover is installed, the ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-US is designed to be weather resistant to IP43 standards, but it is not waterproof. To use the loudspeaker safely in wet and damp environments:

• Use the weatherized input cover when on battery power and when using Bluetooth streaming and control.

• Use the Electro-Voice approved accessory rain resistant cover when on mains power, or when any of the I/O connectors are needed.

• Place the loudspeaker on an elevated, level, stable surface, or on a tripod. DO NOT place the loudspeaker in a puddle or standing water.

• Always orient the loudspeaker upright, in the KICKBACK mode, or in the MONITOR mode. DO NOT place or transport the loudspeaker upside down or on the amp panel side to prevent water ingress.

• Always use the supplied weatherized input cover or the approved accessory rain resistant cover. DO NOT use the loudspeaker in damp or wet environments without them.

• Dry the product and the weatherized input cover after use, prior to removing the cover. DO NOT remove the weatherized input cover while it is wet.

• Always ensure the battery is properly installed when operating in a wet or damp environment. DO NOT use in wet or damp environments when the battery is not installed.

The weatherized input cover must be installed when the ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-US is intended to be used in wet or damp conditions for battery-powered operation with Bluetooth streaming. To install the cover:

Step 1. Ensure that the weatherized input cover is fully intact, dry, clean, and the gasket is in good condition.

Step 2. Ensure that the input panel on the loudspeaker is dry, clean, and the mating channel around the input connectors is free of any dust or debris.

Step 3. Power on the loudspeaker.

Step 4. Install the weatherized input cover by pressing it firmly in order to fully seat the gasket in the mating channel on the amplifier input panel. The cover will be flush with the adjacent panels of the loudspeaker.

To remove the cover, pull it carefully and evenly using the finger pull-tabs.

To mount the ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-US on a tripod stand:

Step 1. Place the tripod stand on a level and stable surface and fully extend its legs.

• Do not compromise the tripod stand’s structural integrity by trying to make it taller.

• Do not attempt to mount more than one loudspeaker on a stand designed for a single loudspeaker.

Step 2. Lift the loudspeaker using two hands.

Step 3. Set the pole cup located on the bottom of the loudspeaker onto the pole.

Step 4. Select LOCATION TRIPOD in the menu or app for the best sound.

To mount the loudspeaker on a pole above a subwoofer:

Step 1. Place the subwoofer on a level and stable surface.

Step 2. Insert the M20 threaded pole into the combo pole cup on the top of the subwoofer.

Step 3. Turn the M20 threaded pole clockwise to secure it to the subwoofer.

Step 4. Lift the loudspeaker using two hands.

Step 5. Set the loudspeaker location to TRIPOD in the DSP control menu.

Step 6. Select the corresponding LOW PASS setting for your subwoofer.

The ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-US may be used as a floor monitor by placing it on one of the two integrated monitor angles.

Step 1. Place the loudspeaker on a level and stable surface.

Step 2. Safely route cables to prevent injury to performers, production crew, and audience members.

Step 3. Set the loudspeaker location to MONITOR in the DSP control menu.

To set up the loudspeaker in the kickback position:

Step 1. Place the loudspeaker on a level and stable surface.

Step 2. Tilt the loudspeaker rearward to rest securely in the kickback position.

Step 3. Safely route cables to prevent injury to performers, production crew, and audience members.

Step 4. Set the loudspeaker location to KICKBACK in the DSP control menu.

The amplifier panel includes the following controls and connectors:

1. LCD: DSP control and monitoring interface.

2. MASTER VOL: Adjusts the sound level and navigates the DSP control menu. Push the knob to enter the DSP control menu.

3. Input selection soft keys: Press to select an input (INPUT 1, 2, or 3/4) and access its DSP control menu. Press again to deselect and return to the main DSP.

4. INPUT 1: Balanced input for signal sources like mixing consoles, instruments, or microphones via 1/4-inch TRS or XLR. The XLR connector is selectable for 48V phantom power.

5. INPUT 2: Balanced input for sources like mixing consoles or microphones via XLR, or Hi-Z instrument connection via TRS.

6. INPUT 3/4: Bluetooth stereo input for audio streaming or analog stereo input via 3.5 mm mini-jack.

7. MIX OUT: XLR output that sends either the mix of all input signals or the stereo L/R signal to another loudspeaker or subwoofer.

8. FOOTSWITCH: 1/4-inch TRS connector for connecting a footswitch to toggle FX on/off.

9. Mobile device charging port: 5 V 1.5 A charging for mobile devices.

10. MAINS IN: AC connection via an IEC-connector.

11. POWER: Switch for power ON or OFF.

12. DC POWER OUT: DC power output jack (12V DC, 500mA or less) for powering a wireless microphone receiver, such as the Electro-Voice RE3 or R300.

The main LCD screen shows the following status information:

• VOL: Indicates the master gain of the system in dB, from -80 dB to +10 dB.

• INPUT 1 VU meter: Displays the signal level of INPUT 1. A “P” indicates 48V phantom power is on.

• INPUT 2 VU meter: Displays the signal level of INPUT 2. An “H” indicates a Hi-Z instrument is connected.

• INPUT 3/4 VU meter: Displays the signal level from Bluetooth or the 3.5 mm jack.

• MAIN VU meter: Displays the signal level of the MAIN output.

• DUCK: Indicates that ducking is activated on INPUT 1 and/or INPUT 2.

• AFS: Indicates that automatic feedback suppression is enabled.

• BATTERY status: Shows the battery level and indicates if it is charging.

• FUNCTION indicator: Shows if the system is in MIXER or BASIC mode.

• Status display: Alternately shows the selected preset number (1-5), “E” if the preset is edited but not saved, and a lock symbol if controls are locked.

• S – Audio streaming: OFF (disabled), FLASHING (pairing mode), SOLID (connected).

• C – Control app: OFF (disabled), FLASHING (pairing mode), SOLID (connected).

• CLIP: Indicates the input signal is too high.

• LIMIT: Indicates the output limiter is active to protect the loudspeaker.

To access and navigate the DSP control menu:

Step 1. Push the MASTER VOL knob. The DSP control menu will appear.

Step 2. Turn the MASTER VOL knob to scroll through the menu items.

Step 3. Push the MASTER VOL knob to select the menu item you want to modify. The focus moves to the parameters on the right side of the menu.

Step 4. Turn the MASTER VOL knob to scroll through the parameters.

Step 5. Push the MASTER VOL knob to confirm the selected parameter. The setting is saved, and the focus returns to the menu items on the left.

Step 6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 to modify additional settings.

Step 7. Select EXIT to return to the home screen. The display also returns to the home screen after 30 seconds of inactivity.

To reduce feedback:

1. Follow appropriate microphone placement and use practices:

• Do not place the microphone directly in front of the loudspeaker.

• Avoid placing large flat objects like music stands near the microphone that can cause reflections.

• Use proper microphone technique, such as holding it close to your mouth, to avoid using excessive input gain.

• Do not cup the microphone element with your hands while speaking or singing.

2. Engage an appropriate input channel PRESET for your application, such as LOW CUT 80 Hz, VOCAL MIC, etc.

3. Enable automatic feedback suppression (AFS) in the DSP control menu or the FX section of the QuickSmart Mobile app. This will enable AFS on INPUT 1 and INPUT 2.

4. After enabling AFS, slowly turn up the output of the loudspeaker and begin your sound check. As you hear feedback, allow a few seconds for the AFS to detect and reduce it. Continue the sound check until no additional feedback tones are generated.

To link two ELECTRO-VOICE EVERSE8-US loudspeakers for TWS over Bluetooth:

Step 1. Pair one of the loudspeakers via Bluetooth to your mobile device for audio streaming.

Step 2. On both loudspeakers, navigate to the BLUETOOTH menu in the Main DSP menu.

Step 3. On both loudspeakers, select LINK SPEAKERS. The LCD display will show “LINKING SPEAKERS…” while establishing a connection. When the connection is established, the menu will display “UNLINK SPEAKERS”.

Step 4. Below the LINKING SPEAKERS option in the BLUETOOTH menu, a stereo channel selection will appear. Select the appropriate channel for each loudspeaker: L+R (mono), L (left), or R (right). This stereo image is from the audience’s perspective.

Storing customized user settings:

You can create and store up to five customized user settings.

Step 1. From the DSP control menu, scroll to STORE.

Step 2. Push the MASTER VOL knob to select STORE. The STORE screen appears.

Step 3. Push the MASTER VOL knob to select a memory slot (1-5).

Step 4. Use the MASTER VOL knob to scroll through characters (A-Z, 0-9) to name your setting (up to 12 characters). Push the knob to select a character.

Step 5. Turn the MASTER VOL knob to move to the next character entry. Continue until the name is entered.

Step 6. Use the MASTER VOL knob to scroll to SAVE.

Step 7. Push the MASTER VOL knob to select SAVE.

Recalling customized user settings:

Step 1. From the DSP control menu, scroll to RECALL.

Step 2. Push the MASTER VOL knob to select RECALL. The RECALL screen appears.

Step 3. Push the MASTER VOL knob to select one of your saved settings (1-5) or the default setting (6).

Step 4. The selected item is loaded, and the menu will return to the home screen.

The DUCKER reduces the signal level on other inputs whenever a signal is detected at the selected MIC/LINE input (INPUT 1 or INPUT 2). This is useful for speaking over background music.

To engage the ducker:

Step 1. Select INPUT 1 and/or INPUT 2 by pressing its soft key.

Step 2. Access the channel’s DSP menu and adjust the DUCKER level to set the detection threshold (Typical values are -10 to -20 dB). When a signal on the selected input exceeds this threshold, the signal on the other inputs will be reduced by 12 dB.

The DUCKER operation logic is as follows:

If there is no sound, check the following:

• Improper gain: Verify all sources are on. If using a condenser microphone, ensure it is plugged into INPUT 1 via XLR and phantom power is enabled. Inspect the VU meters on the LCD or in the app. If there is a signal, increase the input and gain controls. If there is no signal, check the wiring.

• Sources not connected: Check all cables between the source and the loudspeaker with a multimeter or cable tester. Replace any suspect cables.

If you are experiencing poor low-frequency response, check these settings:

• SUB menu activated: If no subwoofers are used with the system, go to the DSP control menu and select the OFF position for the SUB menu cross-over frequency.

• SPEECH mode is active: In the DSP control menu, change the MODE to MUSIC, LIVE, or CLUB.

• Input PRESET is not set to FLAT: In the INPUT DSP control menu, change PRESET to FLAT.

• EQ is active: In the INPUT and DSP control menus, reset all EQs in the low frequencies.

Constant noise can be caused by several issues:

• Defective source or device: If noise is present but no program material is playing, evaluate each component in the signal chain to isolate the problem.

• Poor grounding or ground loop: Check and correct the system grounding as required.

• Low input gain: If using a microphone, slowly increase the INPUT LEVEL to engage the microphone pre-amp.

• Ground loop from mobile device: Some devices (laptops, phones) may introduce ground loops if they are charging via the speaker’s USB port while also connected via the 3.5 mm audio input jack. Connect the audio via Bluetooth or disconnect from the USB jack.

This indicates that the input level is too high or the gain structure is incorrect. Take the following steps:

• Reduce the INPUT LEVEL or loudspeaker level knobs to prevent the limiter from activating.

• Verify the level controls of your source are properly structured by using the VU meter on the LCD screen. If the VU meter bar is solid or the system indicates LIMIT, the input or source level is too high.

If the app does not detect the loudspeaker:

• Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on the loudspeaker.

• For Android devices, ensure location services are activated.

• Remove the loudspeaker from your phone/tablet’s device settings (sometimes called “FORGET”).

• Restart the pairing process.

• Ensure your phone/tablet has the required OS version and latest updates installed.

• Ensure the latest QuickSmart Mobile App is installed.

• Ensure no other phone/tablet is connected to the same loudspeaker.

If the loudspeaker is unresponsive to user interaction or power cycles due to an unforeseen internal operation failure, try one of the following actions:

• Remove the mains power and the battery, then put the battery back into the loudspeaker.

OR

• Press and hold the soft keys for INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 for at least 10 seconds.
