What are the important safety instructions for the COUNTYLINE CLPT36?

Read the manual carefully. Failure to follow these instructions could cause serious bodily injury and/or property damage.

Consult an installer or licensed plumber for the correct relief valve. Install the system according to local codes.

Always test water from the well for purity before using. Check the local health department for the testing procedure.

Before installing or servicing the tank, BE SURE the pump electric power source is disconnected. Release all water pressure before working on the tank or system. Release air pressure before removing the cover flange.

Install a relief valve in the pump supply line to the tank, as close to the tank as possible.

BE SURE the pump electrical circuit is properly grounded.

Remove bleeder orifices, air volume controls, or other air charging devices in the existing system.

DO NOT USE the tank as a surge suppressor.

What is the risk of explosion associated with the COUNTYLINE CLPT36?

To prevent possible serious or fatal injury and/or damage to equipment, the system pressure must be less than 100 pounds per square inch (PSI) (689kPa) under any circumstances. Failure to follow this instruction can result in the tank blowing up. If the system discharge pressure can exceed 100 PSI (689kPa), install a relief valve capable of passing the full pump volume at 100 PSI (689kPa).

What are the risks if my COUNTYLINE CLPT36 freezes?

Do not allow the pump, tank, or piping system to freeze. Freezing can severely damage equipment and may lead to a tank explosion and serious injury. Allowing the tank to freeze voids the tank warranty.

How do I set the pre-charge pressure for my COUNTYLINE CLPT36?

The COUNTYLINE CLPT36 is pre-charged at the factory to 40 PSI. When installing, you must set the tank pressure according to your pressure switch setting. To do this, bleed air from or add air to the tank through the valve on top of the tank.

Always set or check the tank pre-charge with NO WATER in the tank or water pressure in the system. If you have already pumped water, turn the pump off and open a faucet until there is no more water pressure. Set the pre-charge in the tank according to the chart below, then close the faucet and turn the pump back on.

Replace and tighten the air valve cap after the pressure is adjusted correctly. Failure to replace the air cap may allow loss of air pressure and lead to tank waterlogging and bladder failure.

When Pressure Switch Setting Is: Reduce Tank Precharge (PSI) To:
20-40 PSI (138-276 kPa) 18 (124 kPa)
30-50 PSI (207-345 kPa) 28 (193 kPa)
40-60 PSI (276-414 kPa) 38 (262 kPa)

The first number on the pressure switch is the pump ‘ON’ setting; the second number is the pump ‘OFF’ setting.

How does the operating cycle of the COUNTYLINE CLPT36 work?

1. When the tank is nearly empty, air expands, filling the area above the bladder.

2. As water enters the tank, the air is compressed above the bladder as it fills with water.

3. The pump-up cycle is completed when the air is compressed to the OFF setting of the pressure switch.

4. When water is drawn from the tank, the compressed air in the tank forces water out of the bladder.

5. Once the bladder is empty, a new cycle is ready to begin.

How do I install the COUNTYLINE CLPT36 pressure tank?

1. Connect the discharge pipe from the pump to a tee.

2. Connect one side of the tee to the tank flange and the other side of the tee to service. Use plastic or steel pipe as required.

3. To prevent leaks, use PTFE pipe thread sealant tape on the male threads of all threaded connections to the tank.

4. To ensure pipe joints are not cross-threaded and all threads are clean, make connections by hand (without sealer) first. When threads are clean, remove the pipe, add PTFE tape, and remake the connection. Tighten by hand first, then finish with a pipe wrench.

5. When installing an elbow or nipple in the plastic tank flange, tighten it hand tight plus 1-1/2 turns with a pipe wrench. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!

What should I do if I am replacing a standard tank with a pre-charged COUNTYLINE CLPT36?

When replacing a standard tank in a water system with a pre-charged tank like the COUNTYLINE CLPT36, no bleeder orifices or Air Volume Control (AVC) are required. When sizing a pre-charged tank to replace a standard tank, the tanks should have equivalent drawdowns. Most standard tanks have separate inlet and outlet ports. Pre-charge tanks have one port serving both functions. When replacing a standard tank with a pre-charge tank, run a pipe from the pump into a tee. The second leg of the tee goes to the tank elbow, and the third leg goes to the existing service line.

What should I do with bleeder orifices when installing a COUNTYLINE CLPT36 with a submersible pump?

For submersible pump installations, there may be bleeder orifices in the vertical discharge pipe. They must be removed and the tees plugged when a pre-charged tank is installed in the system. To do this, raise the pump and discharge piping enough to bring the bleeder orifices clear of the well. Remove the bleeder orifices from the tees and replace them with plugs. Bleeder orifices may be any of several sizes, so have a supply of 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ plugs available. Replace the pump and reconnect the discharge pipe.

How do I adjust the tank pre-charge on my COUNTYLINE CLPT36 after installation?

In areas where the temperature is high for long periods, the tank pre-charge pressure may increase, which can reduce tank drawdown. If this occurs, adjust the pre-charge pressure according to your pressure switch setting.

Flush all air out of the piping system and the water reservoir portion of the pre-charged tank. To adjust the tank pre-charge:

1. Open the faucets furthest from the tank and run the pump.

2. Run the pump until sputtering stops and a steady stream of water flows.

3. Open and close faucets repeatedly until all air has been removed.

4. If the stream does not become steady, air may be leaking into the system; check for leaks in the piping on the suction side of the pump.

How do I check the air charge on my COUNTYLINE CLPT36?

To prevent waterlogging, you should check the tank air charge annually. If drawdown decreases significantly, check as follows:

1. To check the air charge in the tank, shut off electric power to the pump, open a faucet near the tank, and drain it completely.

2. At the air valve, check the tank air pressure with a tire gauge. The pressure should be 2 PSI below the pump’s ‘ON’ setting (e.g., 28 PSI for a 30-50 switch). If needed, adjust the tank pressure up or down.

3. Use soap or liquid detergent to check for air leaks around the air valve. Continuous bubbling indicates a leak. If necessary, release the air pressure and install a new core in the air valve (the same type used for automobile tubeless tires).

How do I test for a bladder leak in my COUNTYLINE CLPT36?

1. Disconnect power to the pump.

2. Drain water from the tank bladder by opening the faucet closest to the tank.

3. Remove the valve cap and release all pressure by depressing the valve core. When air stops coming from the valve, remove the valve core to release any remaining pressure.

4. Disconnect the piping from the elbow on the tank cover flange.

5. Carefully turn the tank upside down or lay it on its side. Be cautious as retained water can cause a sudden weight shift.

6. If the bladder leaks, water will run out of the air valve. If so, the bladder needs to be replaced.

7. If replacing the bladder, ensure air and water pressures are relieved before removing the cover flange. When reassembling the cover flange, do not tighten nuts or mounting studs more than 65 in-lbs.
