• DO NOT touch the metal portion of the lid, hot surfaces, or accessories during or immediately after cooking. Use the side handles for carrying or moving.

• DO NOT use this appliance for deep frying or pressure frying with oil.

• DO NOT move the appliance while it is in use and use extreme caution when disposing of hot grease.

• DO NOT allow children or persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities to operate this appliance. Close supervision is necessary when used near them.

This appliance cooks under pressure. Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in injury or damage.

• DO make sure the appliance is properly closed before operating.

• DO check that the steam release valve is installed.

• DO use the pressure cooking lid when pressure cooking.

• DO turn the appliance off if steam escapes from the steam release valve and/or float valve in a steady stream for longer than 3 minutes. If steam escapes from the sides of the lid, turn the appliance off. Once steam stops, carefully ensure the sealing ring is properly installed.

• DO check the steam release valve, steam release pipe, anti-block shield, and float valve for clogging before use.

• DO NOT remove the pressure cooking lid with unprotected hands.

• DO NOT attempt to force the lid off the cooker base.

• DO NOT move the appliance when it is under pressure.

• DO NOT cover or obstruct the steam release valve and/or float valve.

• DO NOT attempt to open the appliance until it has depressurized and all internal pressure has been released.

Overfilling may cause a risk of clogging the steam release pipe and developing excess pressure.

• DO NOT fill the inner cooking pot over the line labeled ‘PC MAX – 2/3’.

• DO NOT fill the inner cooking pot over the line labeled ‘– 1/2’ when cooking foods that expand, such as rice, dried beans, or dried vegetables.

• DO be aware that certain foods, such as applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal, split peas, noodles, macaroni, rhubarb, or spaghetti can foam, froth, and clog the pressure release device. DO NOT fill the cooking pot higher than the “1/2” line when cooking these foods.

• DO NOT place oversized foods into the inner cooking pot.

• DO check that the sealing ring is properly installed.

Accessories:

• DO use only accessories or attachments authorized by Instant Brands.

• DO use only an authorized stainless-steel Instant Pot inner cooking pot.

• DO only replace the sealing ring with an authorized Instant Pot sealing ring.

• DO NOT use the included accessories in a microwave, toaster oven, convection oven, conventional oven, or on a ceramic cooktop, electric coil, gas range, or outdoor grill.

Care and Storage:

• DO let the appliance cool to room temperature before cleaning or storage.

• DO NOT store any materials, other than the multicooker inner cooking pot, in the cooker base when not in use.

• DO NOT place any combustible materials in the cooker base, such as paper, cardboard, plastic, Styrofoam, or wood.

A short power-supply cord is used to reduce risks. Spilled food can cause serious burns. Keep the appliance and cord away from children.

• DO NOT let the power cord touch hot surfaces or open flame.

• DO NOT use with power converters, adapters, timer switches, or separate remote-control systems.

• This appliance has a 3-prong grounding plug. ONLY plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.

The control panel consists of a display and several buttons and indicators:

1. Smart Program Settings: Buttons for cooking presets (Sauté, Slow Cook, etc.).

2. Time: Shows cooking time, Delay Start time, or Keep Warm time.

3. Delay Start Indicator: Shows when Delay Start is active.

4. Pressure Indicator: When lit, shows the pressure level selected (Low/High).

5. Temperature Indicator: When lit, shows the temperature selected.

6. Progress Bar: Shows cooking progress (Preheating, Cooking, Keep Warm).

7. Message Display: Shows cooking instructions and status.

8. Cooking Programs: The active program will be lit.

9. Delay Start: Button to delay the start of cooking. The light shows when it’s ON.

10. Keep Warm: Button to turn automatic warming on/off. The light shows when it’s ON.

11. Cancel: Button to stop a cooking program.

12. Start: Button to begin a cooking program.

13. Steam Icon: When lit, indicates there is pressure in the multi-cooker.

Turn sound on:

When in Ready mode, press and hold Delay Start and Keep Warm for 5 seconds. The message display shows Sound On.

Turn sound off:

When in Ready mode, press and hold Delay Start and Keep Warm for 5 seconds. The message display shows Sound Off.

Note: Audible safety alerts (beeps) cannot be turned off.

Set to Fahrenheit:

When in Ready mode (and the scale is set to Celsius), press and hold the Control Dial for 5 seconds. The message display shows Temp Unit F.

Set to Celsius:

When in Ready mode (and the scale is set to Fahrenheit), press and hold the Control Dial for 5 seconds. The message display shows Temp Unit C.

You can set a Delay Start timer for a minimum of 10 minutes or a maximum of 24 hours.

1. Select a Smart Program and adjust the settings as you want, then press Delay Start.

2. When the minutes field flashes, turn the Control Dial to set the minutes (in 10-minute increments) and press the Start to select.

3. Delay Start begins automatically and the timer counts down.

4. When Delay Start ends, the Smart Program begins.

You can set a general-purpose timer for a minimum of 1 minute or a maximum of 60 minutes.

1. When the unit is on and the message display shows Ready, press Delay Start.

2. When the minutes field flashes, turn the Control Dial to set the minutes (in 1-minute increments).

3. Press Start to begin the timer.

You can reset individual programs or all program settings to their factory defaults.

Reset individual programs:

With the cooker in Ready mode, press and hold one program button for over 3 seconds. The message display shows Ready. The program’s pressure level, cooking time, and temperature are restored to the factory default setting.

Reset all program settings:

With the cooker in Ready mode, press and hold Cancel for over 3 seconds. The message display shows Ready. The unit’s settings are restored to the factory default.

Clean before use:

1. Wash the inner cooking pot with hot water and soap. Rinse and use a soft cloth to dry the outside. You can also wash the inner cooking pot in the dishwasher.

2. Wipe the heating element inside the cooker base with a soft cloth to ensure there are no stray packaging particles.

Setting up the condensation collector:

The condensation collector should be installed before cooking and emptied after each use.

1. To remove, pull the condensation collector away from the cooker base; do not pull down.

2. To install, align the grooves on the condensation collector with the tabs on the back of the cooker base and slide it into place.

The sealing ring must be installed before use and cleaned after each use. It is recommended to use separate rings for sweet and savory dishes.

Install the Sealing Ring:

1. Place the sealing ring over the sealing ring rack on the underside of the lid and press it into place. Press down firmly to ensure there is no puckering.

2. The sealing ring should be snug and should not fall out when the lid is turned over.

Remove the Sealing Ring:

1. Grip the edge of the sealing ring and pull it out from behind the sealing ring rack.

2. Inspect the rack to ensure it is secure and centered. If the rack is deformed, do not try to repair it.

Note: Sealing rings stretch over time. Replace the sealing ring every 12 to 18 months, or sooner if you notice stretching, deformation, or damage.

The anti-block shield prevents food particles from clogging the steam release pipe. It must be installed before use and cleaned frequently.

Remove the Anti-Block Shield:

• Grip the lid and use your thumbs to press firmly against the side of the anti-block shield (pressing towards the side of the lid and up) until it pops off the prongs underneath.

Install the Anti-Block Shield:

• Place the anti-block shield over the prongs and press down until it snaps into position. Do not operate the pressure cooker without it installed.

A test run helps you familiarize yourself with the unit before cooking a meal.

1. Plug in your Rio Plus to turn it on.

2. Add 3 cups of water to the inner cooking pot.

3. Place the inner cooking pot into the cooker base.

4. Place the lid on top of the cooker base and lock the lid.

5. Press Pressure Cook on the Control Panel.

6. Press the Control Dial, then turn the Control Dial to set the cooking time to 5 minutes.

7. Press Keep Warm to turn off the Keep Warm setting.

8. Press Start to begin. The message display shows Preheating.

9. When cooking is done, the display shows DO NOT OPEN LID.

10. Release steam by moving the steam release switch to the Vent position. When steam is completely released, the message display shows OK to Open Lid and End alternatively.

11. Unlock and open the lid.

12. Discard any remaining water, and then wash and dry the inner cooking pot.

How to close and lock the lid:

1. Place the lid on the cooker base. Turn the lid counter-clockwise until the arrow on the lid lines up with the unlock symbol on the cooker base.

2. Turn the lid clockwise until the arrow on the lid lines up with the lock symbol on the cooker base.

If the lid is not closed and locked when you start a cooking program, the display will show “Turn to Lock Lid” and will not start pressurizing.

How to unlock and open the lid:

Once steam is completely released, you must unlock the lid before opening.

1. Turn the lid counter-clockwise until the arrow on the lid lines up with the unlock symbol on the cooker base.

2. Carefully lift the lid up and off the cooker base.

There are two methods to release steam: Natural Release and Quick Release.

Natural steam release:

1. After cooking, leave the steam release switch in the Seal position until all pressure is released naturally.

2. When pressure is released, the steam icon on the display disappears and the message display shows OK to Open Lid. You can then remove the lid.

Quick steam release:

This method is for foods that tend to overcook, like vegetables and seafood.

1. After cooking, set the steam release switch to the Vent position and wait for all pressure to release.

2. When pressure is released, the steam icon on the display will disappear and the message display shows OK to Open Lid. You can then remove the lid.

Follow these steps to use the Pressure Cook function:

Prep:

1. Add ingredients to the inner cooking pot and place it into the cooker base.

2. Place the lid on top and lock it.

Set Program:

3. Press Pressure Cook on the Control Panel.

4. Turn the Control Dial to highlight the desired Smart Program (e.g., Chicken, Beef), then press the Control Dial to select it.

5. The default cooking time flashes. To accept it, press the Control Dial. To change it, turn the dial and then press to select.

6. The default pressure level flashes. To accept it, press the Control Dial. To change it, turn the dial (High/Low) and then press to select.

7. To use Delay Start, press Delay Start and turn the Control Dial to set the delay time.

8. The Keep Warm setting is ON by default. Press Keep Warm to turn it off.

9. Press Start. The display shows Preheating as the unit builds pressure.

Cook:

1. When pressure is reached, the display shows Do Not Open Lid, and the cooking time starts counting down.

2. When the timer reaches 00:00, cooking stops. If Keep Warm is ON, the timer will start counting up.

3. Release steam using the Natural or Quick release method.

The available Pressure Cook Smart Programs are:

Pressure cooking requires a minimum amount of water-based liquid (such as broth, stock, soup, or juice) to create steam. For the 7.5 Quarts / 7.1 Litres model, the minimum liquid is:

• 2 cups (16 oz / 500 mL)

*Unless otherwise specified in a recipe. If using canned, condensed, or cream-based soup, add water as directed above.

The Slow Cook program does not use pressure. Follow these steps:

1. Add ingredients to the inner pot and place it in the cooker base.

2. Place and lock the lid.

3. Press Slow Cook.

4. Turn the Control Dial to highlight the desired Smart Program, then press the dial to select.

5. The cooking time will flash. Press the dial to accept, or turn the dial to change the time and press to select.

6. The cooking temperature will flash. Press the dial to accept, or turn the dial to change the temperature and press to select.

7. If desired, press Delay Start and set the delay time.

8. Keep Warm is on by default. Press Keep Warm to turn it off.

9. Press Start. The cooking time will begin counting down.

The available Slow Cook Smart Programs are:

The Rice program uses pressurized steam. Follow these steps:

1. Add ingredients to the inner pot and place it in the cooker base.

2. Place and lock the lid.

3. Press Rice on the Control Panel.

4. Turn the Control Dial to highlight the Smart Program you want to use, then press the dial to select it.

5. The default cooking time flashes. Press the dial to select it, or turn the dial to change it and then press to select.

6. The default pressure level flashes. Press the dial to select it, or turn the dial to change it and then press to select.

7. If desired, press Delay Start and set the time.

8. Keep Warm is ON by default. Press Keep Warm to turn it off.

9. Press Start. The display shows Preheating.

10. When pressure is ready, cooking starts. When the time reaches 00:00, cooking stops.

11. Release steam as needed for your recipe.

The available Rice Smart Programs are:

Use Sauté in place of a frying pan or saucepan. Do not close the lid.

Preheat:

1. Place the empty inner cooking pot into the cooker base.

2. Press Saute. The Custom Smart Program flashes.

3. The cooking time flashes. Press the Control Dial to select it, or turn the dial to change it and press to select.

4. The cooking temperature flashes. Press the Control Dial to select it, or turn the dial to change it and press to select.

5. Press Start. The progress bar shows Preheating.

Cook:

1. When the message display shows Hot, add your ingredients.

2. The cooking time starts counting down. When it reaches 00:00, cooking stops.

The available Sauté Smart Programs are:

The yogurt-making process has two main steps: Pasteurizing and Fermenting.

Pasteurizing Milk:

1. Add milk to the inner cooking pot and place it into the cooker base.

2. Place and lock the lid.

3. Press Yogurt.

4. Press Start. The display shows Step 1. Pasteurize and the unit starts heating.

5. When pasteurization is done, the unit starts cooling down. The display shows Cooling Down. Open the lid to cool down faster.

Adding Culture/Starter:

1. When the correct temperature is reached, the display shows Add Yogurt Starter. Add your starter and close the lid. You have 30 minutes to do this before the program stops.

Ferment:

1. The default fermenting time is displayed. To change it, press time and turn the Control Dial, then press the Dial again to select.

2. Press Start. The display shows Step 2. Ferment.

3. When fermentation completes, the unit beeps and the display shows End.

4. Allow yogurt to cool, then place in the fridge for 12-24 hours to develop flavors.

Yogurt Program Settings:

Milk Volume for 7.5 Quarts / 7.1 Liters Model:

Sous Vide cooks food in a sealed bag in a temperature-controlled water bath. You should use the pressure cooking lid for this program. You will need tongs and food-safe, airtight pouches or a vacuum sealer system.

Prep:

1. Season your ingredients and seal them tightly in a cooking bag or pouch.

Preheat:

1. Fill the cooking pot with water to the – 1/2 line.

2. Place the pot into the cooker base and lock the lid.

3. Press Sous Vide.

4. Turn the Control Dial to highlight the desired Smart Program, then press the dial to select.

5. Set the cooking time and temperature using the Control Dial.

6. Press Start. The display shows Preheating.

Cook:

1. When the display shows Hot, unlock and open the lid.

2. Add the sealed cooking bag to the water, then reclose and lock the lid.

3. The cooking time starts counting down. When it reaches 00:00, cooking stops.

Remove Food:

When cooking completes, the display shows End. Open the lid and use tongs to carefully remove the cooking pouch.

The available Sous Vide Smart Programs are:

Clean your Rio Plus after each use. Always unplug the unit and let all parts cool to room temperature before cleaning. Ensure all surfaces are dry before use or storing.

*Some discoloration may occur after machine washing, but this will not affect the cooker’s safety or performance.

Difficulty closing lid:

• Cause: Sealing ring not properly installed.
• Solution: Reposition sealing ring, ensure it is snug behind the sealing ring rack.

• Cause: Contents in cooker are still hot.
• Solution: Set Steam Release switch to Vent, then lower lid onto cooker base.

Difficulty opening lid:

• Cause: Pressure inside the cooker.
• Solution: Release pressure according to recipe; only open lid after float valve has dropped down.

• Cause: Cooling of inner pot may create suction, causing inner pot to adhere to the lid.
• Solution: To release the vacuum, set Steam Release to Vent.

• Cause: No sealing ring in lid.
• Solution: Install sealing ring.

• Cause: Sealing ring damaged or not properly installed.
• Solution: Replace sealing ring.

• Cause: Food debris attached to sealing ring.
• Solution: Remove sealing ring and clean thoroughly.

• Cause: Lid not closed properly.
• Solution: Open, then close lid.

• Cause: Sealing ring rack is warped or off-center.
• Solution: Remove sealing ring from lid, check sealing ring rack for bends or warps. Contact Consumer Care.

• Cause: Inner cooking pot rim may be misshapen.
• Solution: Check for deformation and contact Consumer Care.

Problem: Minor steam leaking/hissing from steam release vent during cooking cycle.
• Cause: Cooker is regulating excess pressure.
• Solution: This is normal; no action required.

Problem: Steam gushes from steam release vent when switch is in Seal position.
• Cause: Not enough liquid in the inner pot.
• Solution: Add thin, water-based liquid to the inner pot. For an 8 Quart model: 2 cups (16 oz / 500 mL).

• Cause: Pressure sensor control failure or internal steam release valve not seated properly.
• Solution: Contact Consumer Care for sensor failure. Check Steam Release switch to ensure it’s set to Seal for valve issue.

Problem: Display remains blank after connecting the power cord.
• Cause: Bad power connection or no power.
• Solution: Inspect power cord for damage. If damaged, contact Consumer Care. Check outlet to ensure it is powered.

• Cause: Cooker’s electrical fuse has blown.
• Solution: Contact Consumer Care.

Problem: Occasional clicking or light cracking sound.
• Cause: The sound of power switching and expanding pressure board when changing temperatures.
• Solution: This is normal; no action needed.

• Cause: Bottom of the inner pot is wet.
• Solution: Wipe exterior surfaces of inner pot. Ensure heating element is dry before inserting inner pot into cooker base.

If the control panel displays an error code, there is an issue with the cooker. Here are the codes and solutions:

• Code: C1, C2, C6, C6H, C6L
• Cause: Faulty sensor.
• Solution: Contact Consumer Care.

• Code: C5
• Cause: Temperature is too high because inner pot is not placed in the cooker base.
• Solution: Press Cancel and wait for heating element to cool; ensure there are no foreign objects in cooker base; insert or reposition inner pot and re-enter commands.

• Code: C5
• Cause: Temperature is too high because there is no water in inner pot.
• Solution: Check for scorching on bottom of inner pot. Add thin, water-based liquid to the inner pot according to its size: 8 Quart: 2 cups (16 oz / 500 mL).

• Code: C7 or NoPr
• Cause: Heat element has failed.
• Solution: Contact Consumer Care.

• Code: C7 or NoPr
• Cause: Not enough liquid.
• Solution: Add thin, water-based liquid to the inner pot according to its size: 8 Quart: 2 cups (16 oz / 500 mL).

• Code: C7 or NoPr
• Cause: Quick release button is in the Vent position.
• Solution: Check Steam Release switch to ensure it’s set to Seal.

• Code: Lid
• Cause: Lid is not in the correct position for the selected program.
• Solution: Open and close the lid. Do not use a lid when using Sauté.

• Code: Food burn
• Cause: High temperature detected at bottom of inner pot; cooker automatically reduces temperature to avoid overheating.
• Solution: Starch deposits at the bottom of the inner pot may have blocked heat dissipation. Turn the cooker off, release pressure, and inspect the bottom of the inner pot.

• Code: PrSE
• Cause: Pressure has accumulated during a non-pressure cooking program.
• Solution: Set Steam Release switch to Vent.
