• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight.

Moisture and Spills:

• To reduce the risk of fire or shock, do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, dripping, or splashing.

• Do not place objects filled with liquids, like vases, on the unit.

• If you spill liquid into the unit, switch it off at the mains immediately, unplug it, and consult your dealer.

Ventilation:

• Ensure curtains and other materials do not obstruct the ventilation vents to prevent overheating.

• Do not install in a confined space like a bookcase or cabinet. Ensure a minimum of 10cm is kept around the apparatus for ventilation.

Power and Connections:

• The mains AC/DC Adaptor is the disconnect device and must remain readily accessible.

• Always disconnect the unit from the mains supply before connecting or disconnecting other devices or moving it.

• Unplug the unit during a lightning storm.

• Ensure the unit is not resting on the mains cable, as this could create a safety hazard.

General Use:

• The unit may become warm during prolonged use; this is normal.

The BUSH CARNABY CD977D employs an optical laser beam system in the CD mechanism with built-in safeguards. It is a CLASS-1 LASER PRODUCT. Do not attempt to disassemble it; refer to qualified service personnel. Exposure to the invisible laser light beam may be harmful to the human eye. Use of controls, adjustments, or procedures other than those specified in the manual may result in hazardous laser light beam exposure. The warning label states: “INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION WHEN OPEN AND INTERLOCK FAILED OR DEFEATED. AVOID DIRECT EXPOSURE TO LASER BEAM.”

To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove screws. The unit contains no user-serviceable parts. Please leave all maintenance work to qualified personnel.

• Ensure the unit is unplugged from the mains socket before cleaning.

• Do not use any type of abrasive pad or abrasive cleaning solutions as these may damage the unit’s surface.

• Do not use liquids to clean the unit.

• Keep new and used batteries away from children.

• If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children.

• If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.

• CAUTION: There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

• WARNING: To avoid issues, do not replace a battery with an incorrect type, dispose of a battery into fire or a hot oven, or mechanically crush or cut a battery. Do not leave a battery in an extremely high-temperature surrounding environment or subject it to extremely low air pressure.

1. Plug the power cable into the DC IN PORT (TYPE USB-C) socket on the back of the boombox.

2. Plug the mains power plug into a mains power wall socket and switch it on.

3. Fully extend the telescopic radio aerial on the back of the Boombox to receive the best possible radio reception and sound quality. Adjust as needed.

Before inserting batteries, ensure the Boombox is switched off (slide the On/Off switch to ‘Off’) and unplugged from the mains power supply.

1. Underneath the Boombox, press in the two battery compartment tabs and pull up to remove the cover.

2. Insert 4 x 1.5V C-size (also known as LR-14 and UM-2) batteries (not included), making sure to match the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ markings inside the compartment.

3. Replace the battery compartment cover, making sure it ‘clicks’ home.

Note: When battery power is low, the audio quality may become distorted and the volume quieter. Please switch off the Boombox and replace the batteries.

Turning On:

1. Slide the On/Off switch at the back of the Boombox to ‘On’. ‘Welcome to Digital Radio’ will be displayed, and then the Boombox will go into Standby mode.

2. Press and release the STANDBY/MODE button. The first time you switch on, or if the station list is empty, the Boombox will automatically scan for DAB radio stations.

Selecting Modes:

Press and release the STANDBY/MODE button to change between DAB radio, FM radio, and CD modes. The display will confirm the current mode.

Adjusting Volume:

Press VOL+ to increase the volume and VOL- to decrease the volume.

To access the main menu, press and hold the INFO/MENU button. Then press the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to navigate through the menu options. To select an option, press the OK/SCAN/PAUSE button.

1. In the System Settings menu, press the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS button until `` is displayed. Press OK/SCAN/PAUSE.

2. `` will be displayed. Press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to enter the Time/Date setting.

3. Set Time: Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to select the hour/min/date/month/year, and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE after each selection to confirm.

4. Update: Press BACKWARDS or FORWARDS to select an auto-update source: ‘ANY’, ‘DAB’, ‘FM’, or ‘NO UPDATE’, then press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm.

5. Set Date Format: Press BACKWARDS or FORWARDS to select ‘DD-MM-YYYY’ or ‘MM-DD-YYYY’, then press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm.

6. Set 12/24 hours: Press BACKWARDS or FORWARDS to select ’12’ or ’24’, then press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm.

Ensure the radio has the correct time and date before setting an alarm.

1. In the System Settings menu, select Alarm 1 Setup or Alarm 2 Setup and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm.

2. Alarm Time: The hour/minute digits will flash. Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to choose the hour and minute, pressing OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm each.

3. Duration: Choose from 15, 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes using the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE.

4. Source: Choose Buzzer, DAB, or FM and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE. If you select DAB or FM, the radio will play the last station listened to in that mode.

5. Frequency: Choose Daily, Weekdays, Weekends, or Once and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE.

6. Alarm On/Off: Select ‘On’ to activate the alarm and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE. “Alarm Saved” will be displayed.

7. Volume: Select a volume level from 4-16 and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE. “Alarm Saved” will be displayed again.

To snooze a sounding alarm for 5 minutes, press OK/SCAN/PAUSE. To cancel a sounding alarm or an alarm in snooze, press the STANDBY/MODE button.

In the System Settings menu, navigate to the Backlight settings.

1. Timeout: Select this to determine how long before the display dims. Choose from Off, 10, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, or 180 seconds and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm.

2. On level: Select the display brightness during operation. Choose from “High”, “Medium”, or “Low” and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE.

3. Dim level: Select the display brightness after the timeout period. Choose from “High”, “Medium”, “Low”, or “Off” and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE.

A factory reset will delete all tuned DAB stations, all preset memory stations in FM and DAB modes, all alarm times, and other personalised settings.

1. In the System Settings menu, select “Factory Reset” and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm.

2. The display will show “Factory Reset.? No or Yes.” Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to select ‘Yes’ and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to reset the radio.

Press the STANDBY/MODE button to switch to DAB mode.

• Full Scan: A full scan for available DAB stations happens automatically the first time you switch the unit on. To start a scan manually, go to the menu and select “Full scan”.

• Manual Tune: This menu option allows you to select a particular channel and display its signal strength.

• Pruning Stations: If you have stored stations that you can no longer receive, you can use the ‘Prune’ option in the menu to remove them.

• Dynamic Range Compression (DRC): To change the DRC setting, select High, Low, or Off from the menu. This only has an effect if DRC data is included in the broadcast.

In DAB mode, press the INFO/MENU button repeatedly to cycle through the following program information:

• Time and Date: Displays the time and date provided by the broadcaster.

• Dynamic Label Segment (DLS): Displays scrolling text information from the broadcaster.

• PTY (Program Type): Shows the type and description of the program.

• Channel and Frequency: Displays the station’s transmission channel number and frequency.

• Signal Strength: Shows a signal bar indicating the strength of the current station.

• Bit Error Rate (BER): Provides details of the signal error rate.

• Bit Rate: The data rate at which the signal is being transmitted.

You can store up to 30 DAB+ and 30 FM presets.

Storing a Preset:

1. Tune to the station you wish to save.

2. Press and hold the PRESET/STOP button. The display will show “Preset Store < #:(Empty) >”.

3. Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to select a preset number (01-30).

4. Press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to confirm. The display will show “Preset # stored”.

To overwrite a preset, follow the same steps and select an already used preset number.

Recalling a Preset:

1. Press the PRESET/STOP button. “Preset Recall” will be displayed.

2. Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to move to your desired preset station’s number.

3. Press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to select and tune to that station.

Press the STANDBY/MODE button to switch to FM mode.

• Auto Scan: Press the OK/SCAN/PAUSE button to start scanning up the frequency band. The first station found will play, and found stations will be stored in the Preset list.

• Manual Scan: Briefly press the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to fine-tune the frequency in 0.05MHz steps. Press and hold the buttons to scan up or down the frequency band.

• Scan and Audio Settings: Press and hold INFO/MENU to enter the menu. You can then choose ‘Scan Setting’ (select DX for distant or LOCAL for nearby stations) and ‘Audio Setting’ (select Stereo allowed or Forced Mono).

In FM mode, press the INFO/MENU button repeatedly to scroll through the following information (if broadcasted):

• RDS (scrolling text): The broadcaster may include a scrolling text message about the current program.

• Program type: Describes the type of program being broadcast.

• Audio mode: The display will show if the station is being received in stereo or mono.

• Time/Date: The time and date will be automatically updated by the radio time signal if available.

First, ensure the Boombox is in CD mode by pressing the STANDBY/MODE button until the display confirms it.

1. Lift the lid of the CD player using the scooped recess on the front edge.

2. Place an audio CD (not a DVD or computer CD), label side up, into the compartment. Line up the hole in the centre of the CD with the central spindle and press down gently into place.

3. Close the lid of the CD player. After a short delay, the first track will begin to play automatically.

CD Controls:

• Play/Pause: Press the OK/SCAN/PAUSE button to play or pause the current track.

• Next/Previous Track: Press the FORWARDS or BACKWARDS buttons to skip tracks.

• Stop: Press the PRESET/STOP button to stop playback.

You can program a play order of up to 20 tracks from a CD. The CD must be stopped (not playing or paused) to set up the program.

1. In CD mode with a CD loaded and stopped, press the PRESET/STOP button to enter programmed play mode. ‘MEM P01 T—001’ will be displayed.

2. Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to go to the track number you want to play first. Press PRESET/STOP to confirm.

3. ‘P02 T-00X’ will now be displayed. Repeat Step 2 to select the second track, and continue for all the tracks you wish to program (up to 20).

4. After programming the last track, press PRESET/STOP again to confirm the list. If you have programmed 20 tracks, ‘MEM FULL’ will be displayed.

5. Press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to play the programmed tracks in order.

6. To exit programmed play mode, press the PRESET/STOP button twice, then press OK/SCAN/PAUSE.

1. Press and hold INFO/MENU to access the menu.

2. Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to select ‘System’ and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE.

3. Use the BACKWARDS or FORWARDS buttons to select ‘Software version’ and press OK/SCAN/PAUSE to view the system software version.
