Electrostatic charge on the human body can disturb the function of electrical components. Before beginning work on electrical components, touch an earthed object, such as a water pipe or lifting platform. Do not touch connectors or open electronic components directly.

With the gearbox removed, the torque converter must be secured against falling out.

Always renew self-locking bolts and nuts. Torque settings are specified for unoiled bolts and nuts. Threads of bolts secured with locking fluid must be cleaned with a wire brush, and then the bolts should be inserted with locking fluid AMV 185 100 A1.

Carefully push the torque converter hub via the oil seal to the first stop. Turn the torque converter towards the gearbox using light pressure until the notch in the hub engages in the follower of the pump gear and the torque converter can be felt to slip into place. The torque converter is properly inserted when it can easily be turned by hand and is seated equally deep in the gearbox around the entire circumference.

Start with the engine off. The ATF temperature should not be more than approximately 30 °C at the start of the test. Ensure the vehicle is standing level and the selector lever is in P. Use the tester to select the function to check the ATF level. Start the engine, raise the vehicle, and place a drip tray under the gearbox. When an ATF temperature between 35 °C and 45 °C is displayed, remove the inspection plug for the ATF level from the oil pan. If ATF drips out, the level is correct. If no ATF drips out, top up the ATF.

With the engine off, remove the inspection plug for the ATF level from the oil pan. Remove the overflow pipe through the inspection hole and allow the ATF to drain. Reinstall the overflow pipe and the plug hand-tight. Add 3 litres of ATF through the filler pipe. Start the engine and shift through all selector lever positions with the vehicle stationary, leaving the lever in each position for about 10 seconds. Finally, check the ATF level and top up as necessary.

Move the selector lever to position N and switch off the ignition. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the gearbox by releasing the cable from the cable support bracket. Lever the cable off the lever using an open jaw spanner. Pull the connector off the multifunction switch F125. Unscrew the nut, remove the spring ring and lever from the selector shaft. Carefully bend back the hooks of the lock washer using a screwdriver, unscrew the nut, remove the bolts, and pull the multifunction switch off the selector shaft.

The initial filling capacity is approximately 7.0 litres. For maintenance, it is filled for life and requires no change.

Remove the noise insulation below the engine. Place a drip tray underneath. Unscrew and remove the ATF inspection plug, remove the overflow pipe, and allow the remaining ATF to drain. Loosen the oil pan bolts diagonally and remove the oil pan together with the gasket.

Remove the oil pan and the ATF strainer. Before disconnecting, draw a sketch of all senders and solenoid valves with their respective connectors for identification. Use a small screwdriver to carefully pry out the securing bolts of the connectors on the solenoid valves and pull off the connectors. Carefully pull off connectors for the hydraulic pressure senders if present. Unscrew the bracket bolts, remove the bolt for the oil temperature sender, and carefully pull the sender out of the valve body. Remove the selector lever from the selector shaft. Loosen the marked securing bolts for the valve body diagonally and carefully remove the valve body.
