The fresh air blower is accessible from the footwell on the front passenger side.

Step 1. Remove the heater unit baffle plate.

Step 2. Pull the connector off the fresh air blower.

Step 3. Remove the bolt for the fresh air blower (1 Nm).

Step 4. Release the catch, turn the fresh air blower in the direction of the arrow, and remove it.

Step 1. Remove the footwell cover on the front passenger side.

Step 2. Remove the baffle plate from the heater unit.

Step 3. Release the cover in the direction of the arrow.

Step 4. Remove the dust and pollen filter from the heater unit by pulling it downwards.

Step 1. For vehicles equipped with Climatronic, the photosensor must be removed first.

Step 2. Remove the bolt.

Step 3. Remove the cover (only for models with Climatronic).

Step 4. Remove the securing bolts.

Step 5. Remove the compartment from the dash panel.

Step 6. Remove the centre vent upwards in the direction of the arrow.

Step 7. Disconnect the connectors on the centre vents.

Removal of vents on both sides is identical, but one is a mirror image of the other. To avoid damage to the dash panel, use a pad when levering out components.

Step 1. Using an appropriate tool, lever out the vent.

Step 2. Disconnect the connector on the vent.

Step 1. Run the fresh air blower at the highest speed.

Step 2. In the defrost position, air should flow out of the defroster vent and no air should flow out of the footwell vent. If this happens, the flexible shaft is correctly installed.

Step 3. If it is not correct, remove the flexible shaft from the adapter. Position the controls for heated and fresh air on the adapter and turn the rotary knob for air distribution 1/2 turn (180 degrees). Then reconnect the flexible shaft and repeat the check.

The following test conditions must be met:

Intake temperature must be less than 19 degrees C.

Coolant temperature must be less than 80 degrees C.

Passenger compartment temperature should be about 20 degrees C.

Battery voltage must be greater than 11 V.

Alternator load must not be greater than 50 percent (terminal DF).

Engine speed must be greater than 450 rpm.

Turn the rotary knob for interior temperature to the end position for maximum temperature.

Step 1. Remove the bulkhead in the plenum chamber.

Step 2. Place a drip tray beneath the engine.

Step 3. Clamp off the coolant hoses with hose clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses to the heat exchanger.

Step 4. Push a piece of hose onto the upper union of the heat exchanger and hold a container under the lower connection.

Step 5. Using a compressed air pistol, carefully blow coolant out of the heat exchanger into the container.

Step 6. Undo the bolt from the union flange between the heat exchanger unions.

Step 7. Remove the driver side footwell trim.

Step 8. Remove the left footwell vent.

Step 9. Remove the bolts and remove the heat exchanger cladding.

Step 10. Open the hose clips and pull the coolant pipes out of the heat exchanger.

Step 11. Take the heat exchanger out of the heater unit.

The oil, which is located in the sump of the air conditioner compressor before the air conditioner system is switched on for the first time, distributes itself through the refrigerant circuit as follows:

Air conditioner compressor: approx. 50%

Condenser: approx. 10%

Suction hose: approx. 10%

Evaporator: approx. 20%

Receiver: approx. 10%
