Most communication systems in the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005 are equipped with self-diagnosis. To find faults, use the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- or the vehicle diagnostic and service information system -VAS 5052- in the Guided fault finding mode.

Before beginning dismantling work on your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005, follow these steps:

1. Remove any CDs which may be in the unit.

2. Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers.

3. Remove the ignition key.

To remove the radio unit from your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005, follow these procedures:

1. Remove the trim from the centre of the dash panel.

2. Remove the bolts in the radio unit.

3. Pull the radio unit out of the slot far enough to reach the connector on the back.

4. Press together the connector locking mechanism and pull the connector off.

5. Release the connectors from the aerial connections and disconnect them.

When fitting the radio unit into your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005, never press against the display or operating buttons, as this may damage the radio unit. Always push the radio unit straight into the dash panel.

To deactivate the anti-theft lock after power has been reconnected to your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005:

1. Switch the radio unit on. The unit will display SAFE and then 1000.

2. Use the four multifunction buttons to enter the correct code number from your radio card. Press the relevant button as many times as necessary until the correct digit appears in the centre of the display.

3. Press the multifunction button next to the word ENTER. The radio will be ready for use.

If you enter an incorrect code, SAFE will flash in the display followed by 1000 again, and you can try again. If you enter an incorrect code twice, the unit will be blocked for approximately one hour. Keep the ignition and the unit switched on during this hour. The attempt counter will extinguish after one hour, and you can then repeat the entry process.

To activate the transport protection device, press and hold the keys identified with arrows simultaneously for at least 5 seconds while the unit is connected to the power supply. The display will show TRANSPRT when the player has moved into the transport position. To deactivate it, connect and install the unit, then press the CANCEL key.

In vehicles produced after September 2005, the RCD 500 in the VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005 is optionally available in a version that can play CDs containing MP3 format files in addition to normal audio CDs.

To activate the transport lock on your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005 RCD 510, ensure the unit is connected to the power supply and press and hold the keys identified with arrows simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. The display will show CDC transport protection activated.

To deactivate the transport lock, press and hold the keys identified with arrows simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. The display will show CDC transport protection activated, and a Deactivate button will appear below it. Press this button to deactivate the protection.

To change the remote control batteries for the multimedia system in your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005:

1. Open the cover on the remote control in the direction of the arrow.

2. Remove the batteries and renew them with two new batteries of type AA.

3. Ensure correct polarity as indicated in the battery compartment.

4. Close the cover on the remote control and check it for proper functioning.

To remove the DVD player from your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005:

1. Open the hinged centre armrest, actuate the button, and unfold the control panel on the DVD player.

2. Remove the operating unit from the DVD player.

3. Unclip the frame using a suitable screwdriver.

4. Insert release tool T10315 into the DVD player, ensuring the thickened section on the tool faces the DVD player housing so that the locking springs are operated correctly.

5. Move the release tool sideways to engage behind the tab on the player, then pull the DVD player out of the installation frame.

6. Disconnect the connectors from the back of the player.

To remove the multimedia operating unit from your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005:

1. Ensure the ignition is off and the key is removed.

2. Slide radio release tools T10057 into the slots on the operating unit until they engage.

3. Pull the operating unit out by grasping the upper edge of the frame and folding it out.

4. Press the locking mechanism on the connector and disconnect it, then pull out the release tools.

If the memory medium is not detected by the interface within 15 seconds, remove the memory medium and reinsert it into the USB connection.

To remove the storage compartment from your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005:

1. Switch off the ignition and remove the key. Open the centre armrest completely.

2. Insert radio release tool 3316 into the slots and push them apart to release the locking mechanism.

3. Pull the complete insert out of the centre armrest while the tools are still pressed, then disconnect the connector.

4. Press the spring on the insert to remove the release tool.

To remove the telephone bracket from your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005:

1. Remove the mobile telephone from the bracket.

2. Actuate the button on the bracket and push the bracket out downwards.

3. Unclip the cover in the direction of A and pull it off the bracket in the direction of B.

4. Pull the wiring harness out slightly and unscrew both bolts to remove the bracket from the dash panel.

To remove the microphone from your VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2005:

1. Remove the console in the moulded headliner.

2. Push the connector off the bracket in the interior light, release the connector, and disconnect it.

3. Actuate the three locking lugs and remove the microphone.
