The engine number, including code letters and serial number, is located at the joint between the engine and the gearbox. Additionally, there is a sticker on the toothed belt guard that contains the engine code and serial number.

For engine codes BLS and BXJ, the oil capacity with oil filter change is 4.3 liters and 3.8 liters without oil filter change.

Check the oil dipstick. If the oil level is in the area of the min. mark, top up with a maximum of 0.5 liters of engine oil. If the oil level is in the middle range, it can be topped up with engine oil. If the oil level is in the area of the max. mark, do not add engine oil.

The fuel and fuel lines can become very hot, presenting a risk of scalding. The fuel system is also under pressure. Before opening the system, place cloths around the connections and then carefully loosen the connection to release the pressure. Always wear eye and hand protection when working on the fuel system.

Thoroughly clean all unions and adjacent areas before disconnecting. Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover them, using only lint-free cloths. Carefully cover opened components or seal them if repairs cannot be carried out immediately. Only install clean components and do not remove replacement parts from their packaging until immediately before installation. Avoid using compressed air when the system is open, and do not move the vehicle unless absolutely necessary. Ensure that no diesel fuel comes into contact with coolant hoses; if it does, clean the hoses immediately and renew them if damaged.

Open the cap on the coolant expansion tank. If a drain plug is fitted, open it to drain the coolant from the radiator. If no drain plug is fitted, pull off the lower coolant hose retaining clip and remove the coolant hose from the quick-release connection of the radiator. To drain coolant from the engine, also remove the coolant hose from the engine oil cooler.

Close the coolant drain plug and connect all coolant hoses. Fill the coolant circuit using a cooling system charge unit. The mixture ratio for frost protection to -25°C is 40% anti-freeze and 60% water. For frost protection to -35°C, the ratio is 50% anti-freeze and 50% water.

With the engine at operating temperature, open the cap on the coolant expansion tank with caution as hot steam may escape. Attach the cooling system tester with the appropriate adapter to the expansion tank. Use the hand pump to create a pressure of about 1.0 bar. If the pressure drops, identify and rectify the leak.

Attach the cooling system tester with the appropriate adapter to the cap. Use the hand pump to create a pressure of maximum 1.6 bar. The pressure relief valve must not open. If it does, renew the sealing cap. Increase the pressure to over 1.6 bar; the valve must then open. If it does not, renew the sealing cap.

Clamp off the supply and return lines at the engine oil cooler using hose clips. Remove the coolant hoses from the engine oil cooler. Secure a sealing cap to the rear connection of the engine oil cooler and a sealing plug to the breather connection of the expansion tank. Secure a coolant hose to the oil cooler and expansion tank, then fill the expansion tank to the Max marking. Attach the cooling system tester to the expansion tank and create a pressure of about 1.6 bar. A pressure drop within 10 minutes is not permitted; if pressure drops, renew the engine oil cooler.

Remove the oil pressure switch and screw the oil pressure tester into the oil filter bracket. Connect the brown wire of the tester to earth and the voltage tester to battery positive and the oil pressure switch. Start the engine and increase the speed. At 0.55 to 0.85 bar, the LED must light up; otherwise, renew the oil pressure switch. Increase the speed further; at 2000 rpm and an oil temperature of 80°C, the oil pressure should be at least 2.0 bar.
