How should I install the driver’s floor mat?

To ensure driving safety, observe the following before starting the vehicle. Use only floor mats designed specifically for your vehicle’s model and year. Fix them securely to the carpet.

1. Insert the retaining hooks (clips) into the floor mat eyelets.

2. Turn the upper knob of each retaining hook (clip) to secure the floor mats in place. Always align the triangle marks.

WARNINGS:

● Failure to properly install the floor mat may cause it to slip and interfere with the pedals while driving. This could lead to an unexpectedly high speed or make it difficult to stop the vehicle, potentially resulting in an accident, death, or serious injury.

● Do not use floor mats designed for other models or different model year vehicles, even if they are Toyota Genuine floor mats.

● Only use floor mats designed for the driver’s seat.

● Always install the floor mat securely using the provided retaining hooks (clips).

● Do not use two or more floor mats on top of each other.

● Do not place the floor mat bottom-side up or upside-down.

● Before driving, check that the floor mat is securely fixed in the correct place with all retaining hooks. Be especially careful after cleaning the floor.

● With the engine stopped and the shift lever in P, fully depress each pedal to the floor to ensure it does not interfere with the floor mat.

How do I achieve the correct driving posture?

For safe driving, adjust the seat and mirror to an appropriate position before driving.

A. Adjust the angle of the seatback so that you are sitting straight up and do not have to lean forward to steer.

B. Adjust the seat so that you can depress the pedals fully and your arms bend slightly at the elbow when gripping the steering wheel.

C. Lock the head restraint in place with the center of the head restraint closest to the top of your ears.

D. Wear the seat belt correctly.

What are the general precautions for safe driving?

● Do not adjust the position of the driver’s seat while driving, as it could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

● Do not place a cushion between the driver or passenger and the seatback, as it may prevent correct posture and reduce the effectiveness of the seat belt and head restraint.

● Do not place anything under the front seats. Objects may become jammed in the seat tracks and stop the seat from locking, which could lead to an accident.

● Always observe the legal speed limit when driving on public roads.

● When driving long distances, take regular breaks before feeling tired. If you feel tired or sleepy, do not force yourself to continue driving and take a break immediately.

How do I correctly use the seat belts?

Ensure all occupants are wearing their seat belts before driving.

1. Extend the shoulder belt so that it comes fully over the shoulder, but does not contact the neck or slide off the shoulder.

2. Position the lap belt as low as possible over the hips.

3. Adjust the position of the seatback. Sit up straight and well back in the seat.

4. Do not twist the seat belt.

Important Precautions:

● Each seat belt should be used by one person only.

● Toyota recommends that children be seated in the rear seat and always use a seat belt and/or an appropriate child restraint system.

● To achieve a proper seating position, do not recline the seat more than necessary.

● Do not wear the shoulder belt under your arm.

● Pregnant women should obtain medical advice and wear the seat belt properly, with the lap belt as low as possible over the hips and the shoulder belt completely over the shoulder, avoiding contact with the abdominal area.

● Inspect the seat belt system periodically for cuts, fraying, and loose parts. Replace if damaged.

● Replace the seat assembly, including belts, if the vehicle has been in a serious accident.

How do I fasten and release the seat belt?

What should I know about the SRS airbags?

The SRS airbags inflate when the vehicle is subjected to certain types of severe impacts to help reduce the risk of death or serious injury. They work together with the seat belts.

Airbag Locations:

● SRS driver airbag/front passenger airbag: Helps protect the head and chest.

● SRS knee airbags: Helps provide driver and front passenger protection.

● SRS front side airbags: Helps protect the torso of front seat occupants.

● SRS curtain shield airbags: Helps protect the head of occupants in the outer seats and can help prevent occupants from being thrown from the vehicle in a rollover.

Deployment Conditions:

● The SRS front airbags will deploy in a severe frontal impact that exceeds a set threshold level.

● The SRS side and curtain shield airbags will deploy in a severe side impact that exceeds a set threshold level. Curtain shield airbags also deploy in a vehicle rollover or severe frontal collision.

● Airbags may also deploy if a serious impact occurs to the underside of the vehicle (e.g., hitting a curb, falling into a deep hole).

When to Contact Your Dealer:

● If any of the SRS airbags have inflated.

● If the front of the vehicle is damaged or deformed from an accident that was not severe enough to cause the front airbags to inflate.

● If a portion of a door or its surrounding area is damaged or deformed from an accident that was not severe enough to cause the side and curtain shield airbags to inflate.

● If the pad section of the steering wheel, dashboard, or other airbag storage areas are scratched, cracked, or otherwise damaged.

What is the front passenger occupant classification system and how does it work?

This system detects the conditions of the front passenger seat and activates or deactivates the front passenger airbag and front passenger knee airbag.
